Bio

Hi! I'm Raven Bradley, a returning adult student pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Digital Arts at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. After taking a different path through life, I'm excited to finally pursue the creative career I've always wanted. I enjoy graphic design, photography, branding, marketing, advertising, and finding creative ways to help businesses and nonprofits tell their stories. Outside of school, I own a face painting business, volunteer in my community and church, and enjoy using creativity to bring joy to families and support meaningful causes. My long-term goal is to combine design, marketing, and entrepreneurship to build businesses that make a positive impact while helping others succeed. I believe it's never too late to chase a dream. Every challenge I've faced has strengthened my determination to learn, grow, and give back to my community. I'm excited to see where this new chapter leads.

Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
When I decided to return to college at thirty-seven years old, I realized success wouldn't begin on my first day of class. It would begin months before I ever walked onto campus. Joe Gilroy's motto, "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan," reminds me that meaningful goals require preparation, discipline, and consistent action. My first goal was to prepare my home. For years, my house had become overwhelmed with clutter, unfinished projects, and distractions. I knew that if my home stayed that way, my focus would constantly be divided between schoolwork and unfinished responsibilities. While studying the word purge, I found Noah Webster's 1828 definition: "To cleanse or purify by separating and carrying off whatever is impure...or superfluous." That changed my perspective. Purging wasn't simply cleaning—it was intentionally removing anything that no longer served my future. I brought in two large garbage cans. One was labeled Purge, and the other Keep—Find a Home. Every morning I put on my shoes and worked a little farther. Some items were easy to part with. Others held memories I realized I no longer wanted to carry into the next chapter of my life. It took almost a year, but today my home is organized, peaceful, and ready to support both my family and my education. My second goal is earning my Associate of Applied Science in Digital Arts at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. My objective isn't simply to earn a diploma. I want to master Adobe Creative Cloud, learn from experienced professors, build a professional portfolio, and apply those skills to help businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations communicate their stories through design. My third goal is graduating without student loan debt. Years ago I accumulated educational debt because I didn't fully understand loans. It took years of sacrifice to repay every dollar, and that experience changed how I approach education. Today my estimated educational expenses total approximately $14,200. My plan is straightforward: continue operating my businesses while attending school, apply for scholarships consistently, use available financial aid, and save approximately $20 every day. Saving that amount over two years would cover nearly all of my educational costs, even without scholarship assistance. Writing this plan has reminded me that goals are not accomplished through motivation alone. They require preparation, budgeting, sacrifice, and persistence. Every scholarship application I complete, every dollar I save, and every hour I dedicate to learning moves me one step closer to the future I envision. One of my own personal mottos is, "You never know what's just around the corner." It reminds me not to quit, because the opportunity that changes your life may be one more step away. I believe that mindset, combined with careful planning and consistent work, will carry me through college and into a career where I can support my family while using creativity to serve others.
