Bio

Hello, my name is Rasheed Olawale Adetokunbo Omidiji. I am 16 years old, and I was born in the scorching heat of Las Vegas, Nevada, but raised in the Dutch province of Overijssel (Deventer). Growing up, I enjoyed learning the Dutch language, which inspired me to learn Spanish as well. I enjoy a wide range of hobbies, but most are outdoors. I actually moved back to the United States just as the Covid-19 Pandemic hit us all, which kind of nullified the nostalgic return we'd hoped for. In any instance, we made it out (barely) sane and learned tens of thousands of ways to entertain ourselves (ironically, we forgot most of them). Despite being only 16 years old, I am graduating valedictorian two years in advance as a sophomore at my high school. I currently have a weighted GPA of 4.95 as well as an unweighted GPA of 4.0. I will be attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas come the Fall of 2024 and I am truly excited to embark on the latest chapter in my life. I have always enjoyed helping others since my earliest walking days. This is why I dream of attending medical school to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, a profession in which Blacks make up less than 2%. I want to do that which I love and serve as an inspiration to future generations to make ripples in the pond that is the world. Thank you!

I still remember a project I did in Kindergarten. We drew ourselves thirty years from that day. I immediately began drawing my stethoscope and face mask, even detailing my name on my scrubs with my then-terrible handwriting. Ever since I was a child, I knew that I would become a doctor to help others. In my dreams, I see myself as a cardiothoracic surgeon, a profession in which less than 2% of practitioners are Black. I wish to break down barriers and inspire the next generation to pursue a career in the medical field despite its lack of racial diversity. It is my strongest belief that I am the person I am today due to the influence of those who surround me. Every day, my parents inspire me to establish myself in this world and make a difference in our ever-changing world. This is why I aspire to attend Medical School to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. To make a difference, I wish to help others in the ways so many have helped me to become who I am today. I have my parents to thank for helping me to realize what it is I want out of life and the true value of hard, dedicated, honest, work. I cannot ever hope to equate a sum equal in value to the lessons they have taught me, but I can ensure that their struggles have not been in vain. I will remain focused on my studies and continue to work hard to get to where I want to be and make a name for myself in the medical field. Although competitive, I am certain no one will outwork me. I am currently a Sophomore at Sierra Vista High School, but I am graduating two years in advance; the first of such an occurrence in my high school’s 23 years of History in addition to doing so as an African student. I currently have a weighted GPA of 4.7 and an unweighted GPA of 4.0. My ACT ranked in the 92nd percentile nationally. This unprecedented accomplishment is the result of my father’s influence. I could not bear studying from 3:00 pm after school to 4:00 am the following day, only to wake up for school an hour later, had it not been for my father. He motivates and inspires me to outwork everyone and overcome any challenges that life throws at me. With certainty, I can assert that I could not have possibly grown to become the person I am today without my father. This is why I will go to medical school and I will defy the odds. I will become a cardiothoracic surgeon and I will inspire future generations. I will

With certainty, I can assert that I could not have possibly grown to become the person I am today without my father. One challenge that has always faced me is attaining balance; I have always had to balance my responsibilities. As a student-athlete, I have had to learn how to make difficult sacrifices and balance the concentration of my focus toward designated areas. As a student, I have had to learn how to effectively plan methods of approaching specific situations and executing them with great accuracy within a short timeframe. I have learned the value of time management, teamwork, and focus. As an athlete, I have learned mental and physical endurance, which has helped me to be able to study long and hard without pause. Sports have also taught me the value of teamwork, although cliche, teamwork has allowed me to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles in life. In finding a balance between school and sport, I was also able to find a unique way of thinking, my way of thinking. It is my strongest belief that I am the person I am today due to the influence of those who surround me. Each and every day, my parents inspire me to establish myself in this world and make a difference in our ever changing world. This is why I plan to attend Medical School to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. In order to make a difference, I wish to help others the ways so many have helped me to become who I am today. Although competitive, I am certain there is no one who will outwork me. With confidence, I can assert that without these experiences and challenges, without the love, support, and inspiration of my parents, I would not have become the person I am today.

Although competitive, I am certain there is no one who will outwork me. With confidence, I can assert that without these experiences and challenges, without the love, support, and inspiration of my parents, I would not have become the person I am today.
