My name is Ramiro, and I recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical-Community Psychology and a minor in Criminology, Law, and Society. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have been consistently passionate about contributing to research and community-based projects. While at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I was on the Dean's List for three consecutive years and was inducted into the Senior 100 Honorary, a prestigious recognition for 100 graduating seniors recognized for their campus involvement and community service. In addition, I received the nomination for the Lincoln Academy Student Laureate, an honor bestowed upon individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and service to humanity. I have also received the Prospective Ph.D. and RA Event in Psychology (PPREP) award and the Diversifying Psychology Weekend award, given to top applicants interested in seeking graduate education in Psychology. I have had the privilege of working with several research labs throughout my undergraduate studies, including the Interpersonal Violence Research Laboratory (IVRL), Community-Academic Partnerships to Accelerate Community Implementation of Treatments for Youth (CAPACITY), Body Image and Eating Behaviors Laboratory (BIEB), and Psicologos Latinos Avanzando Nuestros Servicios (PLANS). These research experiences allowed me to work closely with faculty and graduate students and provided invaluable research skills, such as coding and analyzing data and conducting structured interviews. As a Research Project Coordinator for the Sexual Assault Among Sexual Minority Men project at IVRL, I coordinate all aspects of a five-year research project funded by the National Institue of Health (NIH) to understand sexual assault experiences among sexual minority men in the U.S. I am responsible for recruiting participants from a diverse sample of young adult sexual minority men, conducting surveys to gather data, and developing and implementing the research plan. I also manage the project's data and prepare reports and presentations to communicate the project's findings to stakeholders. My career aspiration is to become a Clinical Psychologist and work with underprivileged and marginalized populations, such as individuals affected by trauma, the incarcerated population, and those struggling with substance abuse. I aspire to contribute to scientific research, inform clinical practice, and positively impact communities by providing adequate and accessible mental health services. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have been involved in community-based projects. As a recipient of the College Values Award at McHenry County College, I have demonstrated my commitment to community-focused values. I volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), advocating for children's expressed interest by presenting written objective court reports while maintaining frequent communication with social workers, guardian ad litem (GAL), lawyers, and judges. I also served as a Summer Program Resident Assistant and developed positive and supportive relationships with underrepresented high school students providing academic assistance and mentorship to help them achieve their academic goals. Paying down my student loans would allow me to continue to pursue my career aspirations by providing me with financial stability and independence. I would use the money saved to invest in my graduate education, such as attending conferences and seminars, purchasing relevant textbooks and resources, and contributing to research projects. Being debt-free would allow me to focus on my long-term goals and contribute to the community without financial stress. In summary, my passion for research, commitment to community involvement, and dedication to academic excellence has driven me to pursue a career in Clinical Psychology. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. Paying down my student loans would provide me with the financial stability necessary to achieve my goals and positively impact the world.
