    Jim Coots Scholarship
The quote “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” resonates deeply with me as I strive to make a meaningful impact in the field of holistic health. Education is not just a tool for personal growth but a catalyst for social change, enabling individuals to transform lives, especially when it comes to promoting natural healing practices. This is why I am so passionate about pursuing studies in holistic health and natural healing. By gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to support individuals in their journey to better health, I aim to honor the legacy of people like Jim Coots, who dedicated his life to serving others through care, compassion, and wellness. Holistic health takes a comprehensive approach to healing, recognizing that well-being is a balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Unlike traditional medicine, which often focuses on treating physical symptoms, holistic health addresses the root causes of illness and promotes healing through natural methods. This field is of particular interest to me because it allows for a more personalized and empathetic approach to healthcare. It encourages individuals to view their health holistically, recognizing the interconnectedness of mental, emotional, and physical wellness. My passion for holistic health stems from a desire to empower others, particularly those who have limited access to traditional healthcare or prefer natural alternatives. I believe that education in this area will enable me to provide practical solutions that help people take control of their health and well-being. The funding from this scholarship will allow me to expand my knowledge and gain hands-on experience in holistic practices, such as nutrition, mindfulness, and alternative therapies. These tools will not only benefit me but will also enable me to support others in their healing journeys. In the future, I aspire to create educational programs that teach individuals how to incorporate holistic health practices into their daily lives. I believe that by educating people about the power of natural healing, I can help shift the focus of healthcare from simply treating illness to nurturing wellness. My goal is to make holistic health accessible to all, particularly in underserved communities, where the need for alternative healing options is often greatest. This scholarship will be instrumental in helping me achieve these goals. It will provide the resources I need to deepen my understanding of holistic health and empower me to make a meaningful difference in the world. Through education and action, I hope to contribute to a future where natural healing practices are embraced and integrated into mainstream healthcare, creating a healthier, more compassionate world for all.
    Annie Pringle Memorial Scholarship
Breast health education is deeply meaningful to me because of my sister's journey, a story of resilience and transformation that has left a lasting impact on my life and my goals. At just 24 years old, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in Cameroon, facing not only the physical and emotional burden of the illness but also the pain of a failed marriage. Despite these challenges, she showed immense courage and determination, leaving Cameroon to pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer. Her journey took her to Ukraine, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in law, and then to France, where she continued her studies and, in 2011, became a mother of two beautiful children. Throughout this journey, she dealt with the harsh realities of cancer, from surgeries to treatments, and even faced the loss of mobility in one of her arms. Despite this, she not only completed her doctoral degree in 2018, but also educated herself extensively on breast cancer to find ways to heal and live fully. By documenting her experiences and learning about breast health, she transformed a life-altering illness into a source of knowledge and empowerment, setting an inspiring example for me and countless others. Today, although she has a paralyzed arm, she has learned to work skillfully and effectively, reminding us all that limitations can be redefined with the right mindset. Her story has fueled my commitment to making a difference through my own studies. I am pursuing an Associate's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Social Work, driven by a desire to support others who face challenges like my sister’s. Social work emphasizes both physical and mental health support, and I believe that breast health education is critical not only for early detection but also for supporting people in their journey toward healing and resilience. My goal is to educate others on the importance of breast health and advocate for resources and support networks, especially in underserved communities where this knowledge could save lives. As this essay prompt wisely suggests, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” My sister’s self-education empowered her to overcome her battles, and I aspire to carry forward that legacy of knowledge and resilience. By spreading awareness and promoting breast health education, I hope to contribute to a future where no one faces the fear and isolation that can accompany a diagnosis like hers. In pursuing social work, I am committed to creating more accessible resources and support for individuals facing serious health challenges. I am determined to help build a community of understanding, resilience, and empowerment—so that others, like my sister, can not only survive but thrive. Her journey has shown me the profound impact that knowledge, support, and resilience can have on someone's life. I want to ensure that those affected by breast cancer, and other chronic illnesses, know they are not alone and have access to resources that make their path to healing less isolating. By championing breast health education and providing compassionate care through social work, I am committed to transforming the lives of those who face health obstacles. Inspired by my sister's courage, I am dedicated to making a meaningful difference, one person at a time.
    Diabetes Impact Scholarship
Living with a chronic condition like diabetes requires relentless resilience. As an individual living with this condition, I am familiar with the everyday demands of monitoring blood sugars, attending doctor’s appointments, and managing the constant cycle of highs and lows. These experiences have not only shaped my personal journey but have also inspired my career goals. Currently pursuing an Associate's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Social Work, I am passionate about using my education to advocate for and support individuals facing chronic autoimmune conditions, particularly those with diabetes. One of the most meaningful ways I contribute to this cause is through my involvement with the Red Cross, where I actively work on community projects that address health disparities and support those with chronic illnesses. My experience with this organization has strengthened my desire to make a lasting impact, as I see firsthand the crucial role community support plays in the lives of those managing long-term health conditions. By providing essential resources, organizing support networks, and fostering an inclusive environment, the Red Cross helps people feel understood and empowered, and it is this same empathy I wish to bring into my professional career. My degree in Social Work will enable me to bridge gaps in healthcare for underserved populations, especially those managing chronic conditions. Through counseling, advocacy, and community engagement, I hope to offer tailored support that makes it easier for individuals with diabetes to access the resources and empathy they deserve. Social work equips me with a broad understanding of public health challenges, social equity, and the intricacies of mental health—all of which are essential for addressing the physical and emotional burdens associated with chronic illness. In the future, I aim to create programs that integrate medical and social support, providing people with diabetes access not only to affordable healthcare but also to ongoing counseling, educational resources, and community support. By pursuing a career that combines social work with health advocacy, I will work to improve care systems and advocate for policies that reduce insulin costs and increase accessibility. This scholarship will support me in turning these goals into reality, allowing me to develop skills that I can use to uplift and empower those facing similar challenges, just as the Red Cross has done for so many. This scholarship will support me in turning these goals into reality, allowing me to develop skills that I can use to uplift and empower those facing similar challenges, just as the Red Cross has done for so many. I am committed to advocating for those with chronic conditions and making a genuine difference in their lives, ensuring they receive the respect, empathy, and resources they deserve.
    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I'm a fan of Sabrina Carpenter because of the genuine artistry she brings to the music and entertainment industry. From her early days as an actress to her evolution into a talented singer-songwriter, she has demonstrated an impressive ability to convey raw emotions and personal stories that resonate deeply with her audience. Her career has impacted me by providing a soundtrack to my own life experiences and serving as a reminder of the power of authenticity and self-expression. One of the things that initially drew me to Sabrina Carpenter was her role in Girl Meets World, where she portrayed the character Maya Hart. Maya’s fearless and rebellious nature made her an inspiring figure for many young viewers, including myself, teaching the value of self-confidence and the importance of standing up for oneself. Even though her acting career was my first introduction to her, it was Sabrina’s music that left a lasting impression. As she transitioned into the music scene, her songs brought a new level of vulnerability and depth, showing us a side of her that felt relatable and real. Sabrina's music often explores themes of heartbreak, self-discovery, and personal growth. Her album Singular: Act I was a pivotal moment in her career, where she embraced a more mature and bold sound. Tracks like “Almost Love” and “Sue Me” conveyed empowerment and confidence, inspiring listeners to feel fearless and unapologetic about who they are. I remember listening to these songs during times when I needed an extra boost of self-assurance, and they never failed to make me feel more courageous. The way Sabrina fearlessly reinvented herself in this album showed me that growth and change are integral parts of life, and it's okay to step into a new version of oneself. Her more recent work, such as emails I can’t send, delves even deeper into her personal life, addressing themes of heartbreak and self-reflection. This album in particular has had a significant impact on me because of how honest and open she is about her struggles. Songs like “because I liked a boy” confront the harsh realities of public scrutiny and the emotional toll it takes, highlighting Sabrina’s strength in facing criticism while staying true to herself. Her willingness to be vulnerable and share her side of the story has inspired me to embrace my own emotions and understand that it’s okay to be honest about what I’m going through. Beyond her music and acting, Sabrina Carpenter's journey as a public figure has shown me the importance of perseverance and resilience. She has faced challenges, from navigating the transition from child star to adult artist to dealing with public controversies, but she has always emerged stronger and more self-assured. Watching her handle adversity with grace and a focus on her artistry has motivated me to keep pushing forward, even when the road gets tough. It’s a reminder that staying true to one’s passion and purpose can make all the difference. Additionally, Sabrina’s kindness and connection with her fans are evident in the way she engages with her audience. Whether through heartfelt messages on social media or in live performances, she makes it clear that she genuinely cares about the people who support her. This sense of community she has built has made being a fan feel like being part of something special, where shared love for her music brings people together. In essence, Sabrina Carpenter's career has impacted me by teaching valuable lessons about self-expression, resilience, and embracing personal growth. Her music serves as a comforting presence during challenging times and a celebration of the highs in life.

Readers have resonated with the raw and realistic portrayal of the protagonist’s struggles, which has led to heartfelt exchanges about personal experiences and the importance of compassion. The novel’s impact lies in its ability to open up difficult yet necessary conversations, cementing its place on my shelf. Another standout is "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This novel is a mesmerizing exploration of fame, love, and identity, told through the lens of an iconic Hollywood star. #BookTok has embraced Evelyn Hugo’s story, with readers fascinated by the book’s glamorous yet tragic narrative. This series’ widespread appeal and ability to bring the fantasy community together make it indispensable for my shelf. Lastly, I’d include "Circe" by Madeline Miller, which complements "The Song of Achilles" with another mythological masterpiece. Circe’s journey from outcast to empowered goddess has inspired readers, especially women, to find strength in their own voices.
Hector L. Minott Sr. Future Doctor Scholarship
If I could give advice to my younger self about navigating the obstacles on the pathway to medical school, I’d emphasize the importance of resilience, faith, and self-belief, sharing lessons that continue to guide me. Alongside my own journey, my work with Filles du Success has given me the chance to mentor young girls facing various struggles, teaching them about the power of prayer and perseverance. These experiences have shaped my view on overcoming challenges and have taught me that success is as much about inner strength as it is about hard work and knowledge. One of the first lessons I would tell my younger self is to expect and embrace challenges rather than fear them. Medical school is a rigorous journey, requiring intense preparation, dedication, and sometimes sacrifice. I would reassure myself that it’s normal to face doubts and setbacks, and that every obstacle is a stepping stone to greater strength and understanding. When I work with the young women in Filles du Success, many of them are dealing with difficult circumstances – from family struggles to self-doubt. I remind them, as I’d remind myself, that challenges are temporary, but growth is lasting. Hardships often build character, teaching resilience that will be valuable in medical school and beyond. I’d also tell my younger self to rely on a strong support system. In the journey to medical school, there will be moments when support from family, mentors, and friends can make all the difference. In Filles du Success, I’ve seen how the girls thrive when they have a positive community that lifts them up. We encourage one another through shared struggles and successes, providing a safe space to express fears and aspirations. I’ve learned that having people who genuinely care about your goals and wellbeing can be a source of strength when things seem overwhelming. Likewise, finding mentors who can guide you through the complexities of medical school applications, studying, and life management is invaluable. Additionally, I would tell myself to cultivate a strong spiritual foundation. Working with Filles du Success, I’ve seen how important prayer and faith are to overcoming adversity. I often advise the girls to stay prayerful, reminding them that faith provides comfort and clarity during hard times. For me, my faith has been a steadying force, helping me to stay grounded and hopeful even when things were uncertain or stressful. Medical school will require mental, emotional, and even spiritual strength. Maintaining faith can keep us centered, reminding us of our purpose and the deeper reasons we’re on this path, especially when times are tough. Another key lesson is to maintain balance and prioritize self-care. In the pursuit of success, it’s easy to become overly focused on academics, sacrificing health and happiness in the process. I’d tell my younger self that success is not about burning out but about learning to manage time, taking breaks, and nourishing the mind and body. This balance is something I strive to instill in the young girls I mentor. We talk about setting healthy routines, respecting our limits, and understanding that rest is as essential as work. Lastly, I would remind myself that setbacks don’t define one’s worth or potential. Working with Filles de Success, I’ve witnessed girls who feel defeated by their circumstances, only to discover incredible strength within themselves when they begin to believe in their potential. I’d tell my younger self that failure or delay doesn’t determine the outcome of the journey; rather, it’s one’s persistence and ability to get back up that truly matter.
    Chappell Roan Superfan Scholarship
Chappell Roan’s music has impacted me in a way that few artists have managed to do. Her powerful, unapologetic voice combined with honest and relatable lyrics has left a lasting impression on me, and one song that stands out is “Casual.” This track, with its emotionally raw exploration of love, longing, and vulnerability, has resonated deeply with my own experiences of navigating relationships. The first time I heard “Casual,” I was struck by the way Chappell captured the conflict of wanting to seem indifferent while craving something more meaningful. Her lyrics, full of yearning and self-awareness, made me feel seen. The song opens up a conversation about the complex dynamics of modern love, where people are often afraid to admit their feelings or risk rejection. Listening to it felt like she had written a page from my own diary, and that kind of relatability is a rare and precious gift in music. One of the reasons I support Chappell Roan’s career is because of her bravery in being authentic and vulnerable. She doesn’t shy away from discussing themes like heartbreak, desire, and self-discovery, and she approaches each subject with a sense of honesty and inclusivity. Her music serves as a reminder that being open about our emotions isn’t a weakness but a strength, and it has encouraged me to be more honest in my own life. The way she celebrates both vulnerability and empowerment inspires me, reminding me that it’s okay to be both soft and strong. Chappell’s journey as an independent artist is another reason I believe in and support her. She has worked tirelessly to carve out her place in the music industry, showing resilience and passion. Watching her grow from a small-town singer into an artist with a dedicated following has been motivating. It’s refreshing to see someone stay true to their vision and connect with fans in such an authentic way. Supporting Chappell Roan is about more than just enjoying her music; it’s about championing an artist who is unafraid to embrace her uniqueness and uplift others through her journey. Her art continues to touch lives, including mine, reminding me to embrace vulnerability and celebrate my authentic self, and I am excited to see how her career will continue to evolve.
    Love Island Fan Scholarship
Love Island has always thrived on a combination of romance, drama, and humor, and the newest challenge, “Secrets or Splash,” aims to deliver all three in spades. This exciting game is designed to test contestants’ honesty and their willingness to share hidden truths with their fellow Islanders or take a daring leap into an ice-cold splash pool. “Secrets or Splash” provides an excellent opportunity to stir emotions and reveal secrets, all while entertaining viewers with unexpected twists and laugh-out-loud moments. Setting and Atmosphere: The challenge takes place in a specially designed section of the Love Island villa, decorated with a tropical island theme. At the center of the setup is the “Splash Pool,” a shallow but wide pool filled with cold water, floating inflatables, and playful bubble machines. A stage sits adjacent to the pool, with a comfortable “hot seat” where contestants take turns being the center of attention. The whole area is lit with colorful LED lights and surrounded by cheering fellow Islanders, creating an atmosphere full of anticipation and excitement. Challenge Rules: The rules of “Secrets or Splash” are simple but effective at creating tension. Each Islander is called up to sit in the hot seat, where they are asked a series of probing, sometimes uncomfortable questions about their time in the villa, their feelings for other contestants, or their past relationships. These questions are selected carefully to create potential drama and intrigue, and they range from mild to extremely spicy, depending on how much drama the producers want to elicit. When a contestant is asked a question, they have two choices: Tell the Truth: The contestant must give a completely honest and detailed answer. If the answer is deemed vague or untruthful by the fellow Islanders or the host (who could be the charismatic Iain Stirling), they have to face a penalty. Take the Splash: If the contestant chooses not to answer a question or tries to dodge the truth, they must stand up and take a leap into the Splash Pool. However, to make the dive more entertaining, they may be given humorous instructions, such as performing a belly flop or jumping in backward. Types of Questions: The questions are specifically crafted to bring out secrets or stir existing tensions. For instance, romantic questions might include, “Who do you really think is the least compatible couple in the villa?” or “Have you ever pretended to like someone in the villa more than you actually do?” There are also more playful but still revealing queries, like, “What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you on a date?” or “Which Islander do you find secretly annoying?” The Role of Spectators: Fellow Islanders play an active role in the challenge. They get to cheer, tease, or pressure the contestant in the hot seat to spill the beans or take the plunge. This interactive element creates alliances and divides, as friends might defend each other while others push for confessions. The game is not just about the individual but also about testing bonds between couples and friends in the villa.
    NYT Connections Fan Scholarship
Flute Violin Trumpet Cello Carrot Broccoli Apple Spinach Circle Triangle Square Hexagon Thriller Romance Fantasy Mystery Categories Musical Instruments: Flute, Violin, Trumpet, Cello Vegetables and Fruits: Carrot, Broccoli, Apple, Spinach Geometric Shapes: Circle, Triangle, Square, Hexagon Book Genres: Thriller, Romance, Fantasy, Mystery Essay: Crafting the Perfect Connections Puzzle Creating a Connections puzzle, similar to the ones featured in The New York Times, requires a blend of creativity, thematic thinking, and an appreciation for nuance in language and categories. The puzzle I’ve designed aims to challenge players to recognize connections among diverse subjects, ranging from musical instruments to book genres. Let’s delve into the reasoning behind the categories and how they intertwine to form a cohesive puzzle. The first category, Musical Instruments, brings together “Flute,” “Violin,” “Trumpet,” and “Cello.” This grouping taps into the realm of classical and orchestral music, where each instrument plays a unique role. The flute and trumpet are wind instruments, while the violin and cello belong to the string family. Despite these differences, the common thread lies in their use within symphonies and orchestral performances. This category tests a player’s familiarity with music and instrument classifications. Next, we have Vegetables and Fruits: “Carrot,” “Broccoli,” “Apple,” and “Spinach.” This category challenges the player’s knowledge of nutrition and culinary ingredients. While the words may seem disjointed at first, they come together under the umbrella of produce. “Carrot” and “Broccoli” are clearly vegetables, while “Apple” is a fruit. “Spinach” rounds out the category as a leafy green vegetable. The trick lies in identifying that “Apple,” while different in classification from the others, still fits within the larger group of edible, natural foods. This selection encourages a holistic view of nutrition and the ways these foods contribute to a healthy diet. The third grouping, Geometric Shapes, includes “Circle,” “Triangle,” “Square,” and “Hexagon.” These terms represent fundamental shapes studied in geometry, each with distinct properties. A circle is defined by its curved, continuous line, while triangles, squares, and hexagons have varying numbers of straight sides and angles. Recognizing this group requires a player to think spatially and recall basic geometric principles. The category also hints at the visual nature of puzzles and how our brains categorize shapes based on their visual characteristics. The final category, Book Genres, encompasses “Thriller,” “Romance,” “Fantasy,” and “Mystery.” This grouping plays on literary themes and the emotions they evoke in readers. Each genre represents a unique storytelling style: thrillers bring suspense and excitement, romances focus on love and relationships, fantasies transport readers to magical worlds, and mysteries keep them guessing with intricate plots. Understanding this category requires not only a love of reading but also an awareness of the distinct conventions and audience expectations associated with each genre. In crafting this puzzle, my goal was to create an engaging yet challenging experience. The key to success in a Connections puzzle lies in finding the delicate balance between obvious and subtle links. Players must navigate through red herrings and deceptive similarities, like mistaking “Apple” as part of a technology-related category or confusing “Circle” with other unrelated items. The puzzle invites critical thinking and pattern recognition, rewarding players who can see both the big picture and the finer details. Ultimately, this Connections puzzle serves as a microcosm of how we organize and categorize the world around us. By grouping musical instruments, produce, geometric shapes, and literary genres, we explore different facets of human knowledge and creativity. It’s a testament to the complexity of language and the joy of discovering unexpected connections, much like solving a multifaceted puzzle in life.
    Mohamed Magdi Taha Memorial Scholarship
Standing up for what is right and using my voice to advocate for meaningful change has been a guiding principle throughout my life. Inspired by the values embodied by Mohamed Magdi Taha, I strive to be an "up-stander" in my community, both locally and globally. From 2014 to 2017 in Cameroon, I dedicated myself to World Changers, where we initiated programs addressing poverty and empowering marginalized groups. It was my first real exposure to the transformative power of collective action and community-building. One of the most impactful organizations I’ve worked with is the Local Youth Corner, a highly respected initiative in Cameroon. Here, I focused on leadership training and mentorship for young people, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement and community service. These experiences laid the foundation for my passion for youth empowerment, a theme that has persisted throughout my service journey. Upon moving to the United States, I became an active member of the Food Bank of North Carolina. Working with this organization has allowed me to combat food insecurity directly, packaging and distributing meals to families in need. The Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce further provided me with opportunities to engage in community economic initiatives, amplifying local voices and advocating for small businesses. I’ve also worked with the Optimism Club, an organization that spreads positivity and fosters resilience among youth through mentorship and educational programs. One of my most cherished experiences has been with Filles de Succès, a movement I’ve been part of since 2018. Through this organization, I’ve contributed to uplifting over 400 girls by providing educational resources, mentorship, and skills training. We focus on empowering young women to dream big and take actionable steps toward achieving their goals. The impact we’ve made is tangible, as many girls have gone on to pursue higher education and become leaders in their communities. From 2022 to 2023, I extended my reach internationally by partnering with Keto, a Muslim charity organization that provides critical support to children facing dire medical and life circumstances. Through our collective efforts, I helped fundraise and deliver aid to 15 to 40 children, ensuring they had access to lifesaving resources and care. This experience deepened my understanding of the importance of global solidarity and compassion. My involvement with the World Wild Organization has further fueled my passion for environmental advocacy, driving initiatives to promote sustainability and protect endangered ecosystems. These efforts, along with the sense of shared purpose I’ve found within these groups, have solidified my belief in the power of community action. What makes me stand out is not only my passion but my commitment to continuous learning and growth. I believe that being an "up-stander" means embracing humility, listening to diverse perspectives, and remaining adaptable to change. With my voice, I plan to continue advocating for the rights of the underrepresented and to invest in youth programs that foster leadership and resilience. Whether through public speaking, writing, or one-on-one mentorship, I aim to inspire others to stand up for justice and build inclusive communities. The journey has just begun, and I am committed to amplifying the voices of those unheard, leveraging every opportunity to create lasting impact. Just as Mohamed Magdi Taha recognized the importance of small and large acts alike, I hope to continue honoring that legacy by building a more compassionate and equitable world for all.
    Charli XCX brat Fan Scholarship
One of my favorite songs on Brat is "Unstoppable" by Sia. This song resonates deeply with me, capturing the essence of resilience and determination—qualities that have been pivotal in my life journey. The powerful lyrics and Sia’s soulful voice create an empowering anthem that encourages listeners to overcome challenges and embrace their inner strength. The lyrics of "Unstoppable" speak to the core of what it means to face adversity head-on. The opening lines set the tone for a narrative of self-empowerment: Sia sings about being invincible, ready to take on whatever life throws her way. This message is particularly meaningful to me, as I have faced my own share of struggles and obstacles. Growing up, I often felt overwhelmed by expectations—whether in academics, family, or personal relationships. There were moments when self-doubt crept in, leading me to question my abilities and potential. During tough times, this song became a source of motivation for me. The chorus, with its upbeat tempo and affirming lyrics, became a mantra that I repeated to myself. “I’m unstoppable, I’m a Porsche with no brakes,” Sia declares, embodying a spirit of unwavering determination. This line, in particular, inspires me to embrace my ambitions without hesitation. It reminds me that I possess the strength to navigate through challenges, whether they come from external circumstances or my inner fears. The empowering nature of "Unstoppable" encourages me to adopt a growth mindset. Whenever I face setbacks, I think back to the song and its message. It pushes me to view failures not as dead ends but as opportunities for growth and learning. This perspective has been invaluable as I pursue my academic and career aspirations. For instance, when I struggled with a difficult course in college, instead of giving up, I drew strength from the song. I sought help, studied harder, and ultimately succeeded. Each achievement reinforces the idea that I am, indeed, unstoppable. Moreover, the song emphasizes self-acceptance and confidence. It reminds me that it’s okay to embrace my uniqueness and imperfections. The lyrics convey a sense of authenticity, urging listeners to be true to themselves. This resonates deeply with my personal journey of self-discovery. I’ve learned to embrace my identity, recognizing that my experiences—both the triumphs and the challenges—contribute to who I am. Sia’s message encourages me to own my story, no matter how messy it may be. In addition to its personal significance, "Unstoppable" fosters a sense of community. Whenever I listen to it, I feel connected to others who share similar struggles and aspirations. The song’s universal message of perseverance transcends individual experiences, creating a bond among listeners. It serves as a reminder that we are not alone in our battles and that we can uplift each other through music and shared experiences. Ultimately, "Unstoppable" has become more than just a favorite song; it has transformed into a powerful anthem for my life. Bear Fan Scholarship
As a devoted fan of "The Bear," I envision a conclusion that not only ties up loose ends but also leaves viewers with a sense of hope and fulfillment. The perfect ending for the series would see each character finding their unique path while staying true to the heart of the show—the importance of family, friendship, and pursuing one's passion. In my ideal finale, we start with Carmy finally achieving his dream of transforming the family restaurant into a successful establishment. After navigating the complexities of running a business, he merges the classic elements of his family’s recipes with innovative culinary techniques, attracting both loyal customers and new food enthusiasts. The restaurant becomes a hub for the community, embodying the spirit of togetherness that the show so beautifully portrays. This success symbolizes Carmy's growth, as he learns to balance ambition with personal connections, bringing the team closer than ever. Sydney, having gained confidence and expertise, takes on the role of head chef, leading her team with creativity and compassion. Her journey culminates in her opening a pop-up restaurant that showcases underrepresented cuisines, encouraging others to explore diverse culinary traditions. This not only highlights her individual growth but also reflects the show's theme of embracing change and diversity in the culinary world. Sydney's success serves as an inspiration for aspiring chefs, showcasing the importance of perseverance and the power of community in the kitchen. Richie’s character arc concludes with him realizing his potential beyond the kitchen. After confronting his past and taking steps to mend his relationships, he decides to pursue a career in restaurant management. He enrolls in a management course, motivated to create an inclusive work environment that fosters growth for everyone, especially those who have struggled like he did. Richie's transformation highlights the importance of personal accountability and the ability to change one's narrative. As for Marcus, I see him embarking on a journey across different cities to gain culinary experience and inspiration. His travels allow him to learn from various chefs and cultures, ultimately returning home with a wealth of knowledge. He partners with Carmy to create a seasonal menu that celebrates local ingredients and diverse culinary traditions, showcasing how far he has come as a chef. This journey reflects the importance of seeking knowledge and the impact of mentorship in personal and professional development. The series would culminate with a family gathering at the restaurant, where laughter fills the air, and the characters share stories of their journeys. This scene captures the essence of the show: the importance of community and the bonds that tie us together. As the camera pans out, the restaurant lights glow warmly against the night sky, symbolizing hope and the promise of new beginnings. This ending resonates with me because it encapsulates the growth and evolution of each character while maintaining the show's core message. "The Bear" has always been about overcoming challenges, and this conclusion offers a satisfying sense of closure, reminding us that while life is filled with obstacles, the love and support of family and friends can help us navigate through them. Ultimately, it leaves the audience inspired to chase their own dreams, no matter how daunting they may seem. This hopeful resolution aligns perfectly with the series’ spirit, creating a lasting impact that lingers long after the credits roll.
Jessica's Journey Brain Tumor Survivor Scholarship
The impact of a brain tumor on one’s life is profound, transforming daily experiences, dreams, and perspectives on life itself. My sister’s friend, a brilliant Ph.D. student in pre-law with aspirations to become a tax prosecutor, faced this harsh reality when he was diagnosed with brain cancer during his doctoral studies in France. His diagnosis was devastating, and the prognosis was even grimmer—the doctor informed him that he had just 90 days left to live. This news turned his world upside down, presenting a challenge unlike any he had ever encountered. From that moment, he found himself balancing a new, grueling journey between survival and the pursuit of his academic dreams. Determined to fight for his life and continue his studies, he sought second and even third opinions, traveling to various doctors in hopes of finding options to extend his life. Each visit held a glimmer of hope, but the cancer remained a constant and ominous presence. Throughout this, he was prescribed a complex regimen of medication, including specialized drugs commonly used in treating brain cancer. These treatments took a physical toll, often leaving him exhausted and in pain. Yet, against all odds, he continued his work with fierce dedication, pushing forward in his Ph.D. program and continuing to gain practical experience in pre-law and tax prosecution. His career aspirations became even more significant to him, serving as both a goal and a lifeline—a purpose to hold onto. Despite the unimaginable obstacles, his love for his field became a source of motivation and strength. He had always aspired to make a difference in the legal world, particularly in tax law, where he hoped to stand up for justice and ensure fairness. This commitment to his purpose propelled him through even the darkest days of his treatment. Knowing that his work could potentially impact the lives of others gave him the strength to push through pain and uncertainty. This experience has shaped his long-term aspirations, evolving his perspective on both life and career. While he once focused solely on academic excellence and a career in law, his journey has taught him the importance of resilience, the value of time, and the need to balance ambition with self-care. He now aims to use his story and experiences to advocate for those facing life-altering health challenges, particularly within the workplace. His hope is to inspire others to pursue their dreams despite hardship and to remind those who might take their health for granted that life, in all its brevity, is worth fighting for. As he continues his path, he is determined to complete his Ph.D. and advance in his career, not just for himself but for others battling similar struggles. His academic and career goals have become interwoven with a mission of resilience and advocacy. His story stands as a testament to the human spirit’s strength and serves as a powerful reminder that, even in the face of the darkest moments, there is a light to hold onto. In conclusion, my sister’s friend’s battle with brain cancer has profoundly impacted not only his life but also the lives of those around him. His journey exemplifies the strength of the human spirit and the power of perseverance in the face of adversity. The challenges he has faced have reshaped his aspirations, transforming them into a mission fueled by a desire to advocate for others who find themselves in difficult circumstances.
Make Your "Truth" Your Own Scholarship
Leaving a close-knit religious community like the Jehovah’s Witnesses is a complex journey marked by difficult decisions, profound realizations, and an emotional path toward personal growth. As I reflect on this decision, three central elements capture my journey: the specific factors that led me to leave, the personal evolution I’ve undergone, and the support systems that have guided and uplifted me throughout this transition. 1. Reasons for Leaving My decision to leave the Jehovah’s Witnesses wasn’t sparked by a single event; rather, it was the result of years of silent questions and conflicting emotions. Growing up in the faith, I was taught that Jehovah’s Witnesses held the ultimate truth, that our lives revolved around strict adherence to specific teachings, and that any divergence was dangerous. However, as I matured, I began to notice elements within the community and doctrine that didn’t fully resonate with my personal values and understanding of the world. One significant factor was the strict limitations on associating with those outside the faith, even family members. I found this especially painful as it led to strained relationships with friends and extended family members. Over time, I felt an increasing isolation from those who were important to me and who provided perspectives outside the beliefs I’d grown up with. This separation didn’t just make me feel alone; it stifled my curiosity, my interest in diverse ideas, and my personal growth. Another factor was the rigid stance on personal choices, particularly in areas like education, career paths, and personal expression. Growing up, I’d always had an intellectual curiosity and wanted to pursue higher education, something discouraged within the community. Any pursuits outside of the strict framework of faith were considered distractions. I felt confined, as if parts of my personality and dreams were being sacrificed. Lastly, I started to grapple with the theological teachings themselves. Questions about the interpretation of the Bible, the organization’s authority, and certain doctrines became more frequent as I continued to read and explore my spirituality. In particular, the belief in shunning ex-members weighed heavily on my heart, as it felt contrary to the love and compassion I believed should be central to any faith. All of these factors gradually built up, causing a quiet but profound shift in my perspective. 2. Personal Growth Leaving, or even contemplating leaving, the Jehovah’s Witnesses has been both liberating and challenging. I began to understand the power of my own intuition and thoughts, realizing that I didn’t need an organization to define my worth or my beliefs. This journey has been one of personal empowerment, where I’ve embraced my own ability to choose and live according to values that truly resonate with me. One of the first things I began to embrace after making my decision was the idea of openness—openness to other perspectives, ideas, and cultures. I allowed myself to connect with people from various backgrounds, each with their own unique experiences and wisdom to share. This openness has reshaped my worldview, replacing the fear of the unknown with curiosity and compassion. I’ve come to value diversity in beliefs, recognizing that each person’s spiritual journey is unique. I have also developed a strong belief in compassion and empathy as cornerstones of a meaningful life. In the past, my understanding of compassion was limited by specific rules and guidelines, whereas now I see it as a universal value that transcends religious boundaries. I strive to extend kindness without conditions, not because of a religious mandate, but because it aligns with who I am becoming as a person. Furthermore, I’ve come to value self-acceptance. Stepping away from a community that provided a ready-made identity forced me to confront and define who I truly am. In doing so, I’ve come to accept my flaws and strengths alike, and I feel a newfound sense of peace in embracing my authentic self. This journey has also sparked a thirst for knowledge and personal growth that has led me to explore subjects I was once discouraged from pursuing, including psychology, history, and philosophy. This pursuit of knowledge feels like reclaiming a piece of myself that had been hidden. 3. Support Systems The decision to leave wasn’t easy, and navigating this path has required a support system that understands the unique challenges of leaving a high-control religious community. My closest allies in this journey have been my family members who also decided to step away, as well as friends who may not fully understand my background but have offered unconditional support. Their understanding, patience, and willingness to listen have given me the courage to explore my new identity without fear of judgment. An unexpected but invaluable source of support has come from online communities of former Jehovah’s Witnesses. In these groups, I’ve found people who share my experiences, challenges, and triumphs. These individuals understand the difficult emotions that come with leaving, from guilt and fear to relief and freedom. They have shown me that I am not alone, and that many others have successfully rebuilt their lives after leaving. Their stories, encouragement, and solidarity have been a reminder that healing is possible and that the journey is worth it. I have also sought professional counseling to help me process the emotions tied to this experience. Therapy has given me tools to understand the psychological impact of leaving and has helped me establish a healthy sense of identity outside of the religious structure I grew up in. Through therapy, I’ve learned to embrace my decision and process my feelings of loss and confusion. This guidance has been essential to rebuilding my self-confidence and finding peace. Finally, reconnecting with family members and friends who were previously distant has been healing. I’m grateful that I can now foster relationships without restrictions, reaching out to extended family who had been kept at arm’s length. These renewed connections have reminded me of the love and support that had always been available, waiting for me to embrace it.

    Alexander Hipple Recovery Scholarship
Navigating a loved one’s substance abuse, the painful cycles of addiction, and the slow steps toward recovery has profoundly reshaped my perspective on family, resilience, and career. Growing up, I was not only aware of the ways addiction can transform a person but also acutely aware of how it can fracture and mold relationships. These experiences ultimately guided me toward a career in social work, where I hope to support others who, like my family, have faced the far-reaching impact of substance abuse. It began with someone close to me—let’s call him “J.” He was someone I deeply admired and trusted, but as I grew older, I began noticing shifts. I remember finding bottles hidden around the house and experiencing the mood swings that came with his drinking. The person who once told me stories and taught me life’s little lessons was becoming increasingly distant, and I couldn’t understand why. There was one night I’ll never forget: I heard yelling, doors slamming, and then a long silence. When I walked into the living room, J sat there, staring into space, as if he’d lost all hope. It was then I fully realized the weight of his struggle. My family tried to confront the problem head-on, but it only pushed him further into secrecy. It hurt seeing someone I loved spiral, especially when they didn’t seem to want or accept help. But one of the hardest lessons I learned was that no matter how much you love someone, you can’t force them to change. Addiction wasn’t something J could just “stop” because he wanted to. It was a disease, a battle that required strength he didn’t always have. And the more I saw his struggle, the more I wanted to be someone who could help—not just him, but anyone trapped in that painful cycle. One moment that shifted everything for me happened when J finally entered recovery. I remember sitting with him during one of his counseling sessions, holding his hand as he described the things he was ashamed of, things he wished he could take back. It was heartbreaking but healing at the same time. Watching him open up, I could see the weight lifting, slowly but surely. It was then that I realized my purpose: I wanted to help guide others through that same journey toward recovery, to offer them support without judgment, to give them the tools to fight through each day with a bit more hope. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to social work. The journey hasn’t been easy, and there are still days when we struggle, when old memories resurface, but there’s also a resilience that wasn’t there before. Our family has learned the power of forgiveness, patience, and perseverance. I’ve learned that each step, no matter how small, matters in the journey to recovery. I’m driven to use these lessons and experiences in my career, where I hope to make a difference in the lives of families and individuals dealing with similar challenges. This journey with J and my family has given me a sense of purpose: to help others find their strength, to reassure them that they are more than their struggles, and to show them that recovery, however long and winding, is within reach.

    Ella's Gift
In 2023, I faced one of the most challenging periods of my life when I was diagnosed with first-degree mental health issues and subsequently admitted to Cape Fear Hospital for two weeks. This diagnosis marked the beginning of a transformative journey, one that was spurred by profound trauma, particularly the devastating loss of my father. As I grappled with my emotions, I found myself mentally drained, paranoid, and struggling to cope with the grief that enveloped me. To understand my current mental health struggles, it is essential to acknowledge the complexities of my family history. My mother endured a tumultuous marriage to an abusive man before she met my father. Her previous husband was physically abusive, often bringing women home to torment her. My grandmother, who played a crucial role in my mother's life, tirelessly fought to help her escape this toxic environment. She made multiple complaints to social activism groups in Cameroon, advocating for my mother’s safety and well-being. Despite these efforts, it took years for my mother to muster the strength to leave. Eventually, my mother fled with her five children, seeking refuge at her parents’ house. From there, she relocated to Douala, where she pursued her certification as a teacher while simultaneously taking a nurse aid course. Her resilience during this time was awe-inspiring. To heal from her traumatic experiences, she sought help from coaches and counselors who helped her create a healing plan, though the path to recovery was far from easy. Financially, she struggled, as her abusive husband did not provide any support, forcing her to rely solely on her job. Years later, my mother met my father. In sharing her past, she found an understanding partner who was willing to help her navigate the emotional scars left by her previous marriage. They worked together for two years, building a relationship founded on trust and respect, which culminated in marriage. With my father’s unwavering support, my mother began to heal, eventually welcoming three children into their family. This nurturing environment was vital in shaping my own upbringing. As for my mother's ex-husband, he faced his own struggles after their separation. He remarried, but his new wife confronted him about his past behavior. Through counseling and guidance from village elders, he gradually changed his ways. His transformation was a testament to the possibility of redemption and growth, which further inspired my mother and me to believe in the power of healing. The loss of my father in 2023 became a pivotal moment in my life, reigniting feelings of grief and trauma. While his passing deeply affected me, it also served as a catalyst for introspection and a reevaluation of my mental health. I realized that the patterns of abuse and neglect that affected my family were not just historical events; they resonated within me, influencing my perceptions and responses to life's challenges. My time in Cape Fear Hospital was a crucial period of reflection. The staff provided me with tools to manage my mental health, and I learned the importance of open communication, self-compassion, and seeking help when needed. I recognized that recovery is a continuous journey and that I must actively participate in my healing process. Through therapy and support from friends and family, I have developed coping strategies that have transformed my outlook on life. I practice mindfulness and engage in creative outlets like writing and art to express my emotions. I also prioritize self-care routines, understanding that mental health is as vital as physical health. Additionally, I have become an advocate for mental health awareness, determined to share my story and encourage others to seek help without shame. Looking ahead, my educational goals are intertwined with my personal experiences. I aspire to pursue a degree in social work, focusing on mental health support for individuals from marginalized backgrounds. My experiences with trauma have instilled in me a profound desire to create a safe space for those struggling with their mental health. I believe that everyone deserves the chance to heal and grow, regardless of their past. As I continue on my journey of recovery, I remain committed to managing my mental health through therapy, support groups, and self-care practices. I know that setbacks may occur, but I am equipped with the tools and knowledge to navigate these challenges. My goal is to not only heal myself but also to empower others to confront their struggles, break the cycle of abuse, and pursue a brighter future. In summary, my experiences with mental health and substance abuse have shaped me in ways I never anticipated. They have illuminated the importance of resilience, understanding, and support. I am determined to turn my pain into purpose, striving to make a positive impact on the lives of others who share similar struggles.

    Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship
Growing up as the child of a military family, I have always been acutely aware of the sacrifices and challenges that come with such a lifestyle. My grandfather served in the Cameroon Army, and his experiences deeply impacted our family dynamic. Even though I was young when he passed away, I have vivid memories of his time in the military, particularly the stories he shared about his travels and the difficulties he faced while serving. One of the most striking aspects of my grandfather’s military career was the frequent relocations that came with his service. He would often be deployed to various cities across the country, leaving behind his family for extended periods. I remember the mixed emotions that accompanied his departures. On one hand, there was a sense of pride knowing that he was serving his country, but on the other hand, there was an undeniable sadness that permeated our household during his absences. Months would go by without seeing him, and each return was a bittersweet reunion marked by the changes that had occurred in our lives while he was away. During his time away, my grandmother took on the dual role of both mother and father. She worked tirelessly to ensure that the household ran smoothly and that my siblings and I felt loved and supported. I learned from her strength and resilience that family is the bedrock of support, especially during challenging times. The challenges my grandfather faced in the military were not limited to his physical absences; they also extended to emotional struggles. He often spoke about the mental toll of being away from home and the weight of responsibility that came with serving in the army. He had witnessed the hardships of war and conflict, and I could sense the burden of those experiences in his demeanor. His stories about the difficulties he encountered while deployed painted a vivid picture of life in the military. He would recount the intense training sessions, the camaraderie with fellow soldiers, and the unpredictability of military operations. The way he spoke about his service inspired a deep respect for those who dedicate their lives to protecting their country. However, it also revealed the emotional complexities that military families navigate, including anxiety over a loved one's safety and the challenges of maintaining connections despite physical distance. Another significant aspect of my grandfather's military life was the pride he took in his service. He often emphasized the importance of discipline, commitment, and sacrifice, values that I carry with me to this day. His legacy has instilled in me a profound appreciation for service members and their families, as I understand the unique challenges they face. His experiences have also shaped my aspirations, encouraging me to contribute positively to my community and support those who serve in various capacities. In conclusion, being the child of a military family, particularly through the lens of my grandfather's experiences, has profoundly shaped my understanding of resilience, sacrifice, and the importance of family. While his military service often led to challenges and emotional struggles, it also created a strong foundation of values that guide me today. I have learned that while distance can be difficult, the bonds of love and support can withstand even the most challenging circumstances. My grandfather's legacy continues to inspire me, reminding me of the strength that comes from service and the importance of cherishing the moments we have with our loved ones.
    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
One lyric from Olivia Rodrigo’s album GUTS that resonates deeply with my teenage experience is: “I wish I could go back to the start.” This line encapsulates the essence of adolescence and the myriad challenges that come with growing up. It speaks to the universal longing for simplicity and the desire to avoid the mistakes and heartbreaks that often accompany this tumultuous phase of life. As a teenager, I have faced various challenges that have made me yearn for the innocence of childhood. The transition from childhood to adolescence is often marked by a whirlwind of emotions and experiences, and I found myself navigating through feelings of confusion, insecurity, and the pressure to fit in. There were times when I felt overwhelmed by expectations—whether from my peers, my family, or myself. The lyric reflects this sentiment perfectly; it captures that desire to turn back time and approach life with the naivety and carefree spirit of youth. In high school, I encountered situations that tested my emotional resilience. From dealing with academic pressures to grappling with the complexities of friendships, each experience felt like a rollercoaster ride. There were moments of joy and triumph, but also instances of disappointment and heartache. I vividly remember the time I faced rejection from a group of friends I desperately wanted to be accepted by. The feeling of being left out was painful, and it made me question my worth. In those moments, I often found myself wishing I could rewind to a time when friendships felt uncomplicated and everyone simply played together. Additionally, the lyric speaks to the challenges of self-discovery during adolescence. This is a time when we try to figure out who we are, often stumbling along the way. I have gone through phases where I felt lost and uncertain about my identity. Whether it was experimenting with different styles, interests, or even beliefs, I often found myself grappling with the pressure to conform to societal expectations. The longing to go back to the start reflects the desire to escape the anxiety of finding my place in the world—a journey that is both enlightening and daunting. Moreover, Rodrigo’s lyric resonates with the reality of growing pains and the often harsh lessons learned during adolescence. With every mistake, I have gained valuable insights that have shaped my character. For instance, learning to stand up for myself and set boundaries has been a significant part of my journey. However, it hasn't always been easy. The challenges I faced taught me resilience, but they also came with regrets and a longing for the simplicity of my earlier years. Ultimately, Olivia Rodrigo’s lyric serves as a reminder that the struggles of adolescence are not isolated experiences but shared by many. The desire to go back to the start is a sentiment that reflects the complexity of growing up—where innocence collides with reality, and self-discovery is intertwined with the ache of growing pains. While I cannot go back, I have come to realize that each experience, whether joyful or painful, is an integral part of my journey. Embracing these moments has allowed me to grow stronger and more resilient as I navigate the challenges of adolescence, and it is this growth that will guide me as I move forward into adulthood.

Growing up in a single-parent household shaped my identity and provided me with a unique perspective on resilience, hard work, and the importance of community. My mother was a single mother, and her dedication to our family has profoundly influenced my upbringing. She worked tirelessly to provide for us, balancing multiple jobs while ensuring that I received a good education. Her strength and determination inspired me to pursue my own goals and strive for success, even in the face of challenges. As a child, I witnessed firsthand the sacrifices my mother made for our family. Despite the hardships we faced, she always emphasized the value of education and encouraged me to work hard in school. I took her words to heart, understanding that education was my pathway to a better future. Her unwavering belief in my potential motivated me to excel academically. I focused on my studies, and I was proud to achieve my high school diploma, which represented not just my hard work but also my mother’s sacrifices. In addition to my diploma, I pursued a Personal Care Aide (PCA) certification, which I obtained in 2024. This accomplishment not only reflects my commitment to education but also my desire to make a difference in the lives of others. The PCA certification allowed me to gain practical skills in healthcare, equipping me to support individuals who need assistance with daily activities. This experience deepened my understanding of compassion and empathy, as I interacted with people from diverse backgrounds and learned about their unique challenges. A pivotal moment in my journey occurred when I participated in a community service project aimed at supporting low-income families in my area. I volunteered at a local shelter, where I helped organize food drives and provided assistance to families facing difficult circumstances. This experience was eye-opening; it made me realize that many people struggle with challenges similar to those my family faced. I saw mothers like mine, working hard to provide for their children while facing their own obstacles. This realization sparked a deep sense of empathy within me and reinforced my desire to help others in similar situations. Through my upbringing and experiences, I have developed a profound appreciation for the strength of single parents and the resilience of those facing adversity. I have learned that every individual has a story and that understanding these stories can foster compassion and connection. This understanding has shaped my aspirations to work in the healthcare field, where I can contribute positively to the lives of others. Ultimately, my upbringing in a single-parent household has equipped me with the tools I need to pursue my goals while helping others along the way. I have learned the importance of perseverance, empathy, and community support. As I continue on my journey, I am committed to using my education and experiences to advocate for those in need and make a meaningful impact in my community. I hope to inspire others who may face similar challenges, showing them that with hard work and determination, they can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams

Here's a revised version of the essay that incorporates your experiences playing basketball and football in secondary school in Cameroon: My athletic journey has been a transformative experience, shaping not only my physical abilities but also my character and values. Engaging in sports, particularly basketball and football during my secondary school years in Cameroon, has taught me resilience, teamwork, discipline, and leadership—qualities that I carry with me in every aspect of my life. These experiences have instilled a strong belief in the power of sports to positively impact individuals and communities, and I am committed to using my journey to inspire and uplift others. From a young age, I was drawn to athletics, especially basketball and football. Participating in these sports challenged my limits and pushed me to grow both physically and mentally. Each game taught me valuable lessons about hard work and perseverance. In a world filled with endless possibilities, few experiences are as enriching as those that involve collaboration and creativity. One of my favorite aspects of a popular sandbox game is the opportunity it provides to connect and play with people from all around the globe. This element of the experience not only allows for a shared adventure but also fosters learning and personal growth. The ability to collaborate with others to achieve common goals resonates deeply with me and has had a lasting impact on my life. Playing with friends and family, particularly my cousin, enhances the enjoyment of the experience. We often gather to tackle challenges together, sharing laughter and celebrating our successes. This bonding time is more than just fun; it teaches us the importance of teamwork and communication. Each session becomes a lesson in collaboration, as we must strategize, negotiate, and sometimes even compromise to succeed. The interactions we have while working together create lasting memories and strengthen our relationships, making every moment spent in this immersive environment truly special. Beyond just entertainment, this shared experience also serves as a practical learning opportunity. The activities often require us to engage with real-world problem-solving scenarios. For instance, we frequently encounter obstacles that necessitate quick thinking and adaptability. This constant engagement with practical challenges helps develop critical thinking skills. We learn to analyze situations, weigh our options, and make decisions that can significantly affect our outcomes. Such experiences are invaluable, as they mirror the complexities of real life and prepare us to tackle similar challenges outside the virtual realm. Additionally, my cousins, who are younger, benefit from this environment as well. Playing together encourages them to articulate their thoughts and feelings, allowing them to practice pronunciation and vocabulary. This exposure to language in a relaxed, enjoyable setting fosters a sense of confidence in their communication abilities. As they engage with various scenarios and navigate challenges, they develop their language skills and learn to think logically in complex situations. This opportunity to grow both socially and academically is something I cherish, as it helps shape their development in a supportive and enjoyable manner. The global aspect of this shared experience is equally compelling. Meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures enriches our understanding of the world. Through these interactions, we gain insights into various perspectives and lifestyles, broadening our horizons. This exposure fosters empathy and appreciation for diversity, qualities that are essential in today’s interconnected society. We often share stories, traditions, and even challenges, creating a sense of community that transcends geographical barriers. This global connection reminds us that we are all part of a larger tapestry, each contributing our unique threads. Moreover, the game serves as a platform for creativity. Players are encouraged to express themselves and explore their imaginations. This freedom to create and innovate resonates with me deeply, as it allows for personal expression and experimentation. Whether it’s designing intricate structures, exploring vast landscapes, or simply experimenting with different strategies, the possibilities are limitless. This creative outlet has taught me the value of thinking outside the box and embracing my unique ideas. In conclusion, the opportunity to connect and collaborate with others from around the world is what I love most about this immersive experience. It goes beyond mere entertainment, offering valuable lessons in teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and creativity. I am currently pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Social Work. My long-term goal is to become a well-known social worker dedicated to uplifting communities, particularly those that are underserved. Social work is not merely a profession to me; it is a calling. Growing up, I witnessed the challenges many families face—economic instability, lack of mental health resources, and limited educational opportunities. This path resonates deeply with me, as I aspire to be part of the solution, providing support, resources, and hope to individuals who may feel unseen or unsupported. This scholarship would make an invaluable difference, allowing me to focus fully on my studies and gain practical experience necessary for impactful work in social services. Financially, it would ease the burdens that often come with balancing work and school, giving me more freedom to engage in volunteer opportunities and internships that prepare me for a future in social work. I am deeply committed to making a positive impact, and this support would allow me to build the skills, knowledge, and connections essential for effective service in the field. In terms of career aspirations, I envision working with organizations dedicated to tackling issues like poverty, mental health, and community development. My goal is not only to provide immediate relief but also to create sustainable change by addressing the systemic causes of these social challenges. I hope to be recognized for my dedication, empathy, and effectiveness in supporting individuals and families, helping them to build resilience and achieve self-sufficiency. By advocating for those who may not have a voice, I aim to bridge gaps and create pathways to a better quality of life for others. A significant challenge I’ve faced is the emotional toll of rejection in my recent job search. This period has been difficult, as I’ve submitted countless applications only to be met with silence or rejection. As someone who values connection and community, these rejections have felt isolating and disheartening, sometimes causing me to question my path. However, I’ve used this time to grow in resilience and determination, reminding myself that these setbacks are part of the journey. Another challenge has been navigating social dynamics that often feel isolating. Adjusting to new environments has left me feeling disconnected, especially as I work to build in-person friendships. My strongest relationships often remain virtual, with online friends providing much-needed support and companionship. While I am grateful for these friendships, it has been challenging not to have a strong in-person support network. These experiences have taught me the importance of seeking connection in any way possible. To overcome these hurdles, I have leaned on my virtual friendships for encouragement and understanding, reminding myself that I am not alone, even in periods of physical isolation. Additionally, I’ve focused on self-care practices, such as journaling and setting small, achievable goals, which help me maintain motivation and positivity. This period has reinforced the values of patience and perseverance, helping me to see rejection as part of the growth process. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to social work. The empathy I’ve gained from navigating rejection and isolation has given me valuable insight into the struggles that others face. This deeper understanding will be invaluable in my career, as I work to provide mental and emotional support to those in need. These challenges have not only reinforced my determination to help others but also made me more empathetic and understanding—qualities that I believe are essential in social work.

Witnessing economic hardship in my community and my family’s resilience has given me a deep sense of empathy and motivation to support others in overcoming barriers. This personal connection drives me to empower others facing similar challenges, especially in underserved communities where resources are limited and systemic inequalities are prevalent. Through my coursework in social work, I’ve developed an understanding of the factors that contribute to social disparities, and this has reinforced my desire to be part of the solution. In the long term, my goal is to work with organizations that focus on poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, and mental health advocacy. I want to bring awareness to these issues, particularly by addressing the root causes of poverty and creating programs that foster self-sufficiency and personal growth. My interdisciplinary studies provide the flexibility to learn about various fields, including psychology, sociology, and public health, which are essential for understanding and addressing the diverse needs of individuals and communities. This broad approach equips me with a toolkit to develop comprehensive interventions that are mindful of the complexities in people’s lives. Additionally, my personal experiences with family members who have faced health challenges have deepened my understanding of the emotional and psychological support needed in times of crisis. I’ve learned that social work extends beyond providing resources—it’s about advocating for individuals who may not have the voice or means to stand up for themselves. I am particularly motivated to advocate for mental health support, as I’ve seen firsthand the difference that emotional and mental support can make in someone’s life. By pursuing an interdisciplinary approach, I aim to combine my knowledge of social work with insights from psychology and health sciences to offer a more complete, person-centered approach to helping those in need. In pursuing Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Social Work, I am driven by a desire to create meaningful change in people’s lives. In 2004, I lost my grandmother, Mama Gualeoup, when I was just three years old. She was not only the matriarch of our family but also a princess in the chiefdom of Bangou and Bangate in Cameroon, a woman deeply admired in our community. Although I was young, her legacy has left a lasting imprint on my life. As a farmer and a tailor, she balanced tradition and hard work, serving as an example of resilience and humility. Stories of her kindness, strength, and dedication were often shared in our family, and her passing became a reminder of how much one person’s impact can shape generations. In March 2023, I faced another loss that deeply affected me: my father’s passing. We had a close relationship, and he was a constant source of support, strength, and guidance in my life. He passed away due to a heart attack and stroke, which struck suddenly, leaving our family in shock. The path leading to his passing was a difficult one. Diagnosed in 2022 with Type 2 diabetes, my father tackled his health challenges head-on. After several months of treatment and lifestyle adjustments, his diabetes was under control, and we were optimistic about his recovery. Despite receiving the best care, however, he began experiencing strange symptoms: high fevers, dizziness, and a loss of appetite, all of which worsened despite our efforts to find answers. My father was a judge in Cameroon, and his dedication to his work was extraordinary. Even when he felt unwell, he continued to fulfill his duties, embodying the values of commitment and responsibility. His work taught me the importance of standing up for what is right and facing challenges with courage. Watching him struggle while trying to find answers to his condition was incredibly painful, especially as someone I admired for his strength and resilience. His sudden passing was devastating, made even more so because we had been hopeful about his recovery after overcoming diabetes. These two losses—my grandmother and my father—have shaped who I am today, imparting valuable lessons that guide me in every aspect of life. My grandmother taught me the value of humility and service, showing that one can be powerful yet selfless, embodying a sense of community. Through her example as a farmer and tailor, I learned that hard work and dedication to others can leave an enduring impact. She was a strong, humble leader in her community, and her memory reminds me to stay connected to my roots and carry forward her spirit of resilience. My father’s influence was profound in a different way. His work as a judge instilled in me a deep respect for justice, responsibility, and the importance of family. He always encouraged me to pursue knowledge and stand up for what I believe in. Even in the face of his health struggles, he demonstrated an unyielding commitment to his values and family. The suddenness of his passing reminded me of the fragility of life, and it has driven me to live with intention and purpose. His memory pushes me to be a person of integrity, someone who is committed to personal and family values even when life is difficult. The losses of both my grandmother and father have shown me that life is unpredictable, but it is our response to challenges that defines who we are. From my grandmother, I learned the importance of resilience, tradition, and service. From my father, I inherited the courage to face adversity with strength and the dedication to stand by one’s values.

Growing up in a middle-income family in Cameroon, I witnessed firsthand the power of resilience and unity as we faced one of our greatest challenges: the journey to the United States. Our dream to move to America came with numerous financial, emotional, and logistical obstacles that tested our patience and perseverance. The determination of my mother, a dedicated kindergarten teacher with limited income, was the driving force that kept us going. Despite her modest earnings and the many obstacles in her way, her relentless pursuit of our dream to build a life in America instilled values of sacrifice, teamwork, and courage that have shaped who I am today. My mother’s job as a French kindergarten teacher provided a small income, but it was insufficient to cover the extensive fees required for an international move. As a foreigner, she earned even less than her colleagues, which made saving for such a costly transition an uphill battle. Yet, despite these limitations, she never lost sight of her goal. She took on additional work whenever possible, often late at night or on weekends, offering tutoring sessions and taking up small projects to supplement her income. This financial struggle was long and exhausting, stretching over several years, as every dollar saved went toward the next step in the application process. Watching her work tirelessly taught me the value of persistence and the strength it takes to make significant sacrifices for a better future. In addition to financial hurdles, we faced the arduous task of assembling the necessary paperwork to apply for immigration. Each document required not only fees but official translations and verification, which were hard to come by and required frequent trips to government offices. Our family spent months collecting birth certificates, academic records, and medical documents, all while navigating bureaucratic procedures that were slow and often disheartening. Every delay seemed like an additional obstacle to our dream, but my mother never let it dampen her resolve. My siblings and I helped as much as we could, organizing papers, running errands, and supporting her through this challenging process. This experience taught us all the importance of teamwork and patience, as each family member played a role in moving us forward. Our journey to America required us to dig deep and push through immense challenges, and this experience has profoundly shaped who I am today. Watching my mother sacrifice for our future instilled in me a sense of responsibility and gratitude. I learned that success often comes not from talent or luck alone but from the willingness to work hard and face adversity head-on. Through this process, I gained an appreciation for resilience, having seen it in action as my family overcame the odds together. This spirit of perseverance and unity is something I carry with me in every aspect of my life, reminding me to keep going even when the path seems difficult. Living in Fayetteville, North Carolina, today, I see each opportunity as a continuation of my family’s journey. I understand that our success in overcoming these challenges was not simply about reaching America, but about transforming ourselves through the process. The struggles we faced united us and gave me the drive to pursue my dreams with the same passion and resilience my mother showed. Her strength taught me that no challenge is insurmountable if approached with determination, and that family support can carry us through the most difficult times.

Music has always been a powerful form of expression for me, weaving through various genres and cultures, creating a bridge between art and the soul. My experience with music has been diverse, from playing handbells in ensembles to appreciating the vibrant beats of African and African American composers. The art of handbell ringing holds a special place in my heart, and I aspire to contribute to advancing this art form by drawing inspiration from the rich heritage of African rhythms and African American gospel traditions. Handbells and the Art of Performance Handbells are unique instruments that require precision and teamwork. My journey began with learning pieces like “Fantasy on Kingsfold” arranged by Cathy Moklebust, where the interplay of melodies and harmonies creates a mesmerizing effect. Among the handbell pieces I've performed, one of my favorites is "Ode to Joy," originally composed by Beethoven and arranged for handbells by Douglas E. Wagner. The challenge and beauty of performing this piece lie in its precise timing and fluid transitions between ringers. As I continue to grow in my skills, my aspiration is to incorporate more complex arrangements that resonate with the dynamic energy found in African beats. African Music: The Power of Rhythm African music is known for its powerful beats, intricate rhythms, and its ability to connect communities. Composers like Fela Kuti, a Nigerian pioneer of Afrobeat, create music that transcends borders with its high-energy beat and deep cultural roots. The high-beat tempo in African music is not just about rhythm, but about storytelling—each drum beat and each note holds a narrative. One composer whose work stands out is Youssou N'Dour from Senegal, whose fusion of traditional African music with modern elements continues to inspire. His song "Set" blends traditional rhythms with pop elements, making it resonate globally. African American music, especially gospel, shares this rhythmic richness, albeit with a focus on spiritual expression. Listening to gospel songs by artists like Tasha Cobbs Leonard, I find the beats uplifting, filled with soul and passion. Her song "Break Every Chain" is one that particularly moves me, blending contemporary gospel with rich vocal harmonies and instrumental energy. The blend of praise and rhythm in gospel music brings people together in shared faith and joy, similar to how African beats unite communities. African and African American Music: A Shared Legacy African and African American music share a common thread in their emphasis on rhythm and collective experience. Both genres are rooted in communal traditions where music is a celebration of life and an expression of identity. The key difference lies in the lyrical content and the instrumental focus—African music often uses traditional instruments like the kora or djembe, while African American music has evolved with instruments like the organ, drums, and piano in gospel. One similarity that stands out is the call-and-response pattern in both genres, a technique that fosters interaction between performers and listeners. In African traditional music, this interaction often occurs between drums or voices, while in gospel, it's between the lead singer and the congregation. This call-and-response dynamic can also be incorporated into handbell performances, where ringers respond to each other through sound, creating a dialogue that resonates with audiences Conclusion Music and art are intertwined in their ability to inspire and bring people together. Through my experience with handbells and my love for African and African American music, I see an exciting opportunity to blend these worlds and create something new. By advancing the art of handbell ringing with African rhythms and gospel spirit, I hope to contribute to the vibrant future of music that honors tradition while embracing innovation.

Awareness is the first step in finding a solution.” This quote resonates deeply with my personal experience in my neighborhood, where I witnessed the struggle of a dear neighbor, Mr. James, who battled cancer. His story emphasizes the critical importance of awareness, early detection, and timely treatment in managing health conditions that can otherwise be life-threatening. Mr. James, a vibrant member of our community, was diagnosed with cancer last year. Initially, he exhibited symptoms that many of us dismissed as minor ailments—fatigue, slight weight loss, and occasional pain. It wasn't until he sought medical attention that he received the alarming diagnosis. Fortunately, Mr. James’s case is a powerful testament to the impact of early detection. He was lucky enough to catch his illness in the early stages, which allowed him to receive treatment promptly and effectively. According to the American Cancer Society, early detection significantly increases survival rates. For example, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is 99% when detected early but drops to 27% when diagnosed at a later stage (American Cancer Society, 2023). This stark difference underscores the critical need for awareness in our communities. Health education plays a vital role in encouraging individuals to seek medical advice and to be proactive about their health. Mr. James’s journey to recovery was not easy; it was marked by physical and emotional challenges. However, he became an advocate for health awareness in our neighborhood, sharing his experiences and encouraging others to prioritize their health. He organized community meetings, bringing in healthcare professionals to discuss symptoms, risk factors, and the importance of regular check-ups. This initiative not only educated many in our community but also fostered a sense of solidarity among neighbors, as we all recognized the importance of supporting one another in times of crisis. Research indicates that community engagement is crucial in promoting health awareness. A study by the World Health Organization (WHO) highlights that community-based interventions can significantly improve health outcomes by increasing knowledge and encouraging preventive behaviors (WHO, 2022). By utilizing local resources and involving residents in health discussions, communities can empower individuals to take charge of their health, ultimately leading to better outcomes. As someone who has been directly influenced by Mr. James’s advocacy, I believe that creating awareness is an ongoing journey. In addition to the community meetings, I have also taken steps to further educate myself about various health issues, including attending workshops on cancer prevention and treatment options. By staying informed, I can contribute more effectively to discussions around health awareness and support others in navigating their health journeys. To address this issue, I propose a twofold solution: First, we need to enhance health education programs in our communities. Schools, local health departments, and community organizations should collaborate to create informative sessions that teach individuals about the signs and symptoms of common diseases. Second, we must encourage regular health screenings, making them accessible to all. Partnering with local healthcare providers to offer free or low-cost screenings can help reduce barriers to early detection. In conclusion, the journey of my neighbor, Mr. James, has profoundly impacted my perspective on health awareness. His story exemplifies how crucial early detection and timely treatment are in overcoming serious health challenges. By raising awareness in our communities and advocating for proactive health measures, we can save lives and foster a healthier future for everyone. As we navigate this journey together, let us remember that awareness is not just a first step; it is the foundation upon which we can build a healthier society.

My journey began when I was faced with the heartbreaking reality of losing my father to a heart attack. This loss has not only impacted me deeply but has also become a defining moment in my life, influencing my perspective and my aspirations. From an early age, I was aware of my father’s struggles with cardiovascular disease. He faced numerous challenges, including being diagnosed with coronary heart disease and enduring multiple strokes. Watching him navigate these health issues was painful, as I often wished I could take away his suffering. Despite his illness, my father demonstrated incredible strength and determination, which served as an inspiration to me. He fought hard and managed to be present for significant moments in my life, from my high school graduation to my college send-off. However, the most devastating moment came two weeks before my first day of graduate school. The day my father passed away is etched in my memory, marked by a profound sense of loss and confusion. The emotional storm that engulfed me was overwhelming; I experienced a whirlwind of feelings—anger, despair, and hopelessness. The void his absence left seemed insurmountable, and I found myself sinking into a deep depression. For weeks, I isolated myself, retreating to my room and struggling to find the motivation to continue my studies. During this dark period, I knew I had to confront my grief. I started visiting my father's grave, where I found solace in speaking to him. I shared my feelings, my fears, and my longing for his presence. One day, as I sat there pouring my heart out, a deer appeared before me, standing still and watching me closely. In that moment, I felt a sense of peace and comfort wash over me, as if my father was reassuring me that he was still with me in spirit. This encounter marked a turning point in my healing process. With the support of my family and friends, I began to emerge from the depths of my depression. I realized that my father’s lessons about resilience and determination were not just words but guiding principles that could help me navigate through this pain. I found renewed strength in the memories of my father, who always believed in the power of perseverance. Slowly, I began to reengage with the activities I once loved, such as reading and writing. I also returned to my studies, driven by the desire to honor my father's memory and make a difference in the world. My experiences have led me to pursue a degree in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in social work, where I aspire to help others who are navigating their own struggles, particularly those dealing with loss. In conclusion, my experience as a survivor of loss has shaped my identity and my aspirations. While the pain of losing my father remains a part of me, I choose to honor his memory by living a life filled with compassion, determination, and a commitment to helping others. My journey has taught me that even in the darkest times, we can find light, resilience, and the strength to move forward.

As a survivor of suicide loss, I’ve navigated some of the darkest moments in my life, filled with confusion, pain, and moments of hopelessness. It’s a journey that reshaped my understanding of life and the struggles many of us face silently. I grew up in a family of African descent, where financial stability was often shaky. Things weren’t always easy, and we learned early on that survival meant sacrifice. My mother worked tirelessly, often spending long hours away, just so her children could have food on the table and the opportunity to go to school. Though her determination was unwavering, the absence of her presence left a void, and I struggled to reconcile my emotions during these formative years. When the weight of life’s challenges caught up to me after the loss, I was hit hard. The feelings of hopelessness became more intense, and I struggled to find purpose in anything. Not only was I grieving, but I was also facing personal challenges—feeling inadequate because I couldn’t secure a job or concentrate on my studies. The financial strain in my family had become overwhelming, and it felt as though there was no way out. The loss I endured brought me to a point where I felt like giving up, but one critical realization helped me begin my healing process: I didn’t have to navigate this alone. I sought counseling, and my therapist became a lifeline. With someone regularly checking in on me and guiding me through the darkest moments, I began to feel the support that had been missing in my journey. My counselor was patient, and understanding, and, most importantly, provided me with a space to voice my thoughts without judgment. This experience made me realize the value of mental health care and the importance of reaching out when you feel overwhelmed by negative thoughts. Seeking professional help marked a turning point in my life. Through counseling, I learned the importance of vulnerability and the power of leaning on others when life becomes too difficult to bear alone. My counselor helped me find coping mechanisms, taught me how to rebuild my self-esteem, and helped me set small, manageable goals to regain control over my life. The regular check-ins provided a sense of accountability that was much needed, and they eventually turned into opportunities to reflect on my progress. Through these conversations, I began to rebuild my confidence and started to see the future more clearly. It’s hard to express the gratitude I feel for having had that support during such a difficult time. I realized that life’s challenges, no matter how insurmountable they seem, can be faced with resilience when you allow yourself to be helped. I also understood that seeking help doesn’t signify weakness, but rather an acknowledgment that we all need support from time to time. In the aftermath of this experience, I’ve also become passionate about advocating for mental health awareness, particularly in communities where such issues are often stigmatized. Having grown up in a culture where emotional struggles were often minimized or dismissed, I need to be a voice that promotes understanding, empathy, and support for those dealing with mental health challenges. This is also why I contribute to social justice organizations, like the ones I’m involved in back home and internationally.

My decision to continue my education is deeply rooted in the experiences and sacrifices made by my mother as she raised us. Witnessing her struggle to balance work and family life has inspired me to pursue academic success and create a better future for myself. Growing up, I saw her cry and fight to make ends meet, ensuring we never lacked anything despite the challenges she faced. Her resilience and dedication instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to contribute to my family and society. While I do not have children of my own, my role as an aunt to my niece and nephew has provided me with valuable insights into the nurturing aspect of being a parent. I often took on responsibilities such as dropping them off at the school bus, cooking for them, and taking care of their needs. These experiences taught me the importance of nurturing and the significant impact it has on a child’s development. I love children, and my interactions with them have further reinforced my desire to succeed academically and professionally. One of the greatest challenges I face is managing my studies while being involved in their lives. Balancing schoolwork with my duties as an aunt can be overwhelming at times. However, I have learned to prioritize my time effectively. I allocate specific hours for studying, ensuring that I remain dedicated to my education while also being present for my family. This balance is crucial, as I believe that nurturing relationships with loved ones is just as important as achieving academic success. Another obstacle I encounter is the emotional weight of striving for academic excellence while witnessing my mother’s sacrifices. It is a constant reminder of the hard work and dedication that goes into providing for a family. I aim to honor her sacrifices by pushing myself to succeed, but this can sometimes lead to stress and self-doubt. I manage this by reminding myself of my motivations and focusing on the long-term goals I wish to achieve. Seeking support from friends and family helps me stay grounded and motivated, allowing me to navigate the challenges of both education and family responsibilities. Education, for me, is not just about personal achievement; it is about breaking the cycle of struggle and creating opportunities for future generations. I have learned the value of hard work and the importance of nurturing relationships through my experiences with my family. By pursuing my studies, I hope to pave the way for my niece and nephew, showing them that education can lead to a brighter future. In conclusion, my journey in education is inspired by the resilience and sacrifices of my mother. While I do not have children of my own, my role as an aunt has provided me with valuable lessons in nurturing and responsibility. The obstacles I face in balancing school and family life are significant, but they motivate me to continue striving for success. My goal is not only to achieve academic excellence but also to honor my family's legacy and create a positive impact on the lives of those I love. Through education, I aspire to be a source of support and inspiration for my niece and nephew, just as my mother was for me.
    Wicked Fan Scholarship
As a fan of the musical Wicked, my admiration stems from its intricate storytelling, memorable characters, and the powerful themes it explores. The show, based on Gregory Maguire's novel, presents a fresh perspective on the classic tale of The Wizard of Oz, focusing on the untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba. Through its narrative, Wicked delves into complex themes such as friendship, identity, and the nature of good and evil. One of the aspects I appreciate most about Wicked is its exploration of the bond between Elphaba and Glinda, the Good Witch. Their friendship, which begins in a place of rivalry and misunderstanding, evolves into a deep and meaningful relationship that resonates with anyone who has navigated the complexities of friendship. The musical beautifully captures the struggles of growing apart while still cherishing the memories of shared experiences. Their journey reflects the real-life challenges of maintaining relationships as people change and grow. The character development in Wicked is another reason for my admiration. Elphaba, portrayed as a misunderstood outcast, grapples with her identity and the societal expectations placed upon her. Her evolution from a passionate, idealistic young woman to the infamous Wicked Witch showcases the impact of prejudice and the struggle for acceptance. The depth of her character makes her relatable and evokes empathy, allowing the audience to see the complexities of her choices. Glinda, on the other hand, represents the societal norms and expectations of beauty and popularity. Her character arc challenges the notion of what it means to be "good" and highlights the importance of authenticity. The musical's score, composed by Stephen Schwartz, is another significant reason I am drawn to Wicked. The songs are both emotionally charged and catchy, making them memorable long after the curtain falls. For instance, "Defying Gravity" is an anthem of empowerment that resonates with anyone who has ever felt constrained by societal expectations. The powerful vocals and soaring melodies evoke a sense of liberation and self-discovery. Similarly, "For Good" encapsulates the essence of gratitude and the lasting impact people have on one another, leaving a profound emotional impact. Moreover, Wicked tackles relevant social issues, such as discrimination, moral ambiguity, and the consequences of blind obedience. By presenting a narrative where the line between good and evil is blurred, the musical encourages audiences to question preconceived notions and challenge the status quo. This thought-provoking message is particularly relevant in today's society, where issues of prejudice and injustice continue to persist. The production itself is visually stunning, with elaborate costumes, impressive set designs, and enchanting choreography. The vibrant colors and fantastical elements create an immersive experience that transports the audience into the magical world of Oz. The attention to detail in the staging enhances the storytelling and adds depth to the characters' journeys. In conclusion, my passion for Wicked stems from its rich storytelling, relatable characters, and the powerful themes it explores. The musical's ability to challenge societal norms and provoke thought, combined with its memorable music and stunning visuals, creates an unforgettable experience. It resonates with me on multiple levels, offering both entertainment and a deeper understanding of the complexities of friendship, identity, and morality. Wicked not only entertains but also inspires introspection, making it a timeless favorite that continues to captivate audiences around the world.

Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My experience with mental health has shaped my career, relationships, and overall understanding of the world in profound ways. I am pursuing a degree in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in social work, and I have chosen this path because of the significant impact mental health has had on my life and the lives of those around me. Through both academic studies and personal experiences, I have come to see mental health as not just an individual concern but something intertwined with societal structures, relationships, and community support systems. Volunteering in mental health facilities has been a key turning point in my personal and professional development. It gave me firsthand experience of the challenges faced by individuals struggling with mental health issues, as well as insight into the kind of support they need to thrive. Working with professionals in the field, I saw how a multidisciplinary approach—combining psychology, social work, and medical care—can offer more comprehensive solutions for patients. This experience opened my eyes to the importance of advocacy, especially for those who may not have the voice or the resources to seek help themselves. It was during this time that I realized how mental health permeates every aspect of life. I learned that supporting someone isn’t just about addressing their immediate symptoms but also understanding how factors like poverty, trauma, and social isolation contribute to their struggles. My experiences in these volunteer roles reinforced my passion for social justice, and this has guided me toward a career where I can help bridge the gap between individuals in need and the support systems available to them. Whether through crisis intervention, long-term therapy, or social services, I want to be a part of the solution to help others reclaim their lives. My academic journey in interdisciplinary studies has been equally eye-opening. I chose this major because I wanted a broad perspective on human behavior and society. By integrating courses in psychology, sociology, and health services, I have been able to better understand the many layers of mental health and how it affects both individuals and the larger community. My minor in social work complements this by providing the tools to engage directly with people who need assistance, whether that’s through counseling, advocacy, or community outreach. My understanding of mental health has also shaped the way I approach personal relationships. Mental health is often invisible, and I have learned to be more empathetic and understanding with friends and family. I now realize that people may be going through struggles that they don’t express openly, and this awareness has made me a better listener and supporter in my personal life. I’ve come to believe that everyone deserves kindness and compassion, especially in their most vulnerable moments. Mental health challenges also highlight the importance of resilience and the value of a strong support network. Both in my academic work and in my personal life, I’ve come to understand that it’s not just about offering solutions—it’s about creating spaces where people feel heard, understood, and safe. This is something I hope to bring into my future career, where I plan to work with individuals and communities to create better mental health resources. Ultimately, my experiences have given me a deeper appreciation for the complexity of mental health. It’s not something that can be fixed with one solution or approach. My goal is to contribute to a world where mental health care is more accessible, more inclusive, and more holistic. I believe that by combining the skills I have developed through both my education and volunteer work, I will be able to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who need support. I look forward to continuing my journey in this field and helping to create a future where mental health is prioritized and understood as a fundamental part of human well-being.

The journey of dealing with my parent’s cancer diagnosis is a story of strength, perseverance, and profound family bonds. My sister’s life has been a testament to resilience in the face of overwhelming challenges. After her undergraduate degree in pre-law, she faced a failed marriage and struggled to find stability despite her academic success. In 2010, she sought a fresh start by pursuing a master's degree in Ukraine. Despite numerous obstacles, she secured admission to a French university, and my mother worked hard, saving every penny, to send her to France. In France, my sister faced a new wave of difficulties. She welcomed a baby girl in 2013, finding happiness amidst her struggles. However, during a routine check-up, everything changed. The nurse, alarmed, urged her to stay at the hospital. My sister was diagnosed with cancer while also pregnant with her second child. This revelation brought our family to its knees, as we grappled with the enormity of her situation. She was placed on medical leave from her doctoral studies and had to pause her academic dreams to start chemotherapy. My sister’s strength during this time inspired me deeply. Despite the harsh treatments and the toll cancer took on her body, she remained determined to fight. Month after month, she underwent checkups and took strong medications, battling both cancer and the responsibilities of being a mother. The nurses and doctors who cared for her during this time were not just medical professionals—they were her lifeline. Their compassion, dedication, and unwavering support moved me deeply. This experience opened my eyes to the vital role that healthcare workers play in a patient's life. I saw firsthand how important empathy, understanding, and expert care are in helping families like mine navigate such painful circumstances. It is because of this that I am determined to pursue a career in nursing. I want to provide the same comfort and care to others that my sister received during her most difficult moments. In nursing, I see an opportunity to give back—to be there for families in their darkest hours, just as others were there for us. I want to be the source of strength and compassion that my sister found in her healthcare team, helping patients face their challenges with dignity, hope, and resilience. As my sister began her chemotherapy, I saw her immense courage, but also the physical and emotional toll that cancer takes. She had to navigate her treatment while raising her children, juggling medical appointments, and enduring the side effects of chemotherapy. Our family had to come together like never before, supporting her through sleepless nights and difficult hospital visits. It was during this time that I realized how crucial a support system is for both the patient and their loved ones. Watching the medical team work closely with my sister inspired me. The empathy, attentiveness, and professionalism they exhibited made all the difference. I could see the impact they had not just in administering treatment but in giving her hope and comfort. Their work was not just about medicine—it was about connecting with a person in need, ensuring that they felt heard and cared for. This realization reinforced my desire to become a nurse. Nursing, to me, is about more than just treating physical ailments; it's about being there for patients and their families, providing a safe and comforting presence through some of life’s hardest moments. I want to take the lessons I’ve learned from my family’s experience and apply them to my work, bringing compassion, patience, and dedication to every patient I encounter.

Inaddition, My other goals I have is to work with organization in other to give care to underprivileged children and family.so,These goals came about my passion about helping the poor because I Came from a less developed country and I have gone through a lot of challenges and difficulties and I saw how it affected me ,my sibling as well as other people and so I want to give to those people they privileged to a better living condition. Then,In most poor countries;people die very easily because of poor condition facilities and inadequate medical equipment to give better care to patient and this is really alarming to see the thousand of people dying with no care .This is the reason why I want to work with organization to provide free care to the poor in many countries and as a specific the continent of Africa where I come from. At the same time ,My third goals is to open facility to sell drugs at a lower price for both poor and middle income patient who can't afford these medication.we known how important medication are to the life of a sick person and not able to afford his drug can lead him/her to die because of no medication taken or his/her sickness may go wosser and these may cause huge pain and may paralysed the patient emotion and moral to even thing he may get better soon. However,I think that increasing racial diversity opens doors to learn from each others as patient have trust from a healthcare taker which is from a different colors. This helped to reduced health disparities ie it improved cultural competence and ethnic and racial diversity. Once upon a time, I was a little baby who fell very sick and I did 4 years of sickness .my family did everything to save me. After all this period pass of sickness and of despite search for my healing. God found a miracle for me as well as my family. It's wasn't easy to upgrade our faith but we continue to hope and pray for a precious miracle to be done. I was brought to the northwest part of the country and we found a humanitarian woman who brought us help by allowing me to go to Italy for my healing. My family lost hope and thought I was going to die as I was going to that country. I went there and I did 3 good years for me to receive my hearing .it was very hard and difficult. I use to talk with my family by phone but this period though us a lesson to always have faith in every situation or challenge you are going through in your life .it also though us to be perseverant. While in Italy the doctor did all there to heal me and by the grace of ''God'', I came back safely with the other patients with whom I went therewith. I learn a lot lessons to always stay motivated no matter the challenge you are passing through.

Once upon a time ,I was a little baby who fell very sick and I did 4 years of sickness .my family did everything to save me . After all this period pass of sickness and of dispite search for my healing .God found a miracle for me as well as my family . It's wasn't easy to upgrade our faith but we continue to hope and pray for a precious miracle to be done . I was brought to the northwest part of country and we found a humaniterian women who brought us help by allowing me to go to Italy for my healing . My family lost hope and though I was going to die as I was going to that country . I went there and I did 3 good years for me to receive my hearing .it was very hard and difficult. I use to talk with my family by phone but this period though us a lesson to always have faith in every situation or challenge you are going through in your life .it also though us to be perseverant. While in Italy the doctor did all their to heal me and by the grace of ''God'',I came back safely with the other patients with I went there with .
