With the money from this scholarship, I could also take advantage of an unpaid internship in my field of study instead of working a paying job to fund my education. I did not understand the significance of being at an HBCU until touring North Carolina A&T University. Immediately after stepping on campus, I could feel the nurturing environment. The people at the welcome center were amiable, trying to ensure I got the most out of my experience at the university. I also ran into a student who was the newly elected president of the National Society of Black Engineers(NSBE) club. After having a brief conversation with him, I found out that he was studying mechanical engineering, which is what I will major in. He made sure I was comfortable and gave me tips on how to succeed at the university. That short conversation showed me how much students care for each other and try to ensure that everybody has an equal opportunity to succeed, and that is what I am looking for. After experiencing students giving me looks for being smart in my Honors Calculus class, I knew I wanted to be at a place where I felt welcome and it wasn't a surprise to see an intelligent African American student. I aspire to be a forefront innovator in the automotive industry. Being at an HBCU will provide me with the environment and necessary skills to be a sound mechanical engineer. I was also recognized for my skills through this applied learning opportunity and connected to an auto technician job at a Toyota dealership. I witnessed how important cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and electrical sensors are, as well as the skills required to develop and maintain them like calibration. I never took the opportunity to volunteer at a food drive or an elderly home to make a difference in my community because I never saw the significance of participating in that type of volunteer work. The volunteer work that I was interested in doing was being a youth basketball coach at the Maryland Basketball Academy because of my love for the sport. However, being the student ambassador at my district’s flagship Career Technical Education (CTE) program in Autobody Collision and Repair revealed the significance of offering help to my community. As the student ambassador, I am tasked with speaking to students that come to tour Thomas Edison High School of Technology. During one specific instance where I was talking to some students, I noticed a student who was very intrigued about what I aspire to do in my life. After I finished describing what daily life is like at Thomas Edison High School of Technology and the opportunities being a student in Autobody Collision and Repair granted me, I was able to speak with the student alone. The student told me his name was Vernon, and he was a rising sophomore in high school. He told me he shared aspirations to study mechanical engineering in college, and he wanted to do so at an HBCU as well. He then said that he was inspired to hear that I have been accepted to multiple HBCUs because he does not have many friends who believe being smart is cool. This interaction showed me that my Programs Coordinator was right when she always said I could be an inspiration to other kids of color to excel in academics. I also co-hosted an open house for the entire Montgomery County Public Schools community with my principal, where I gave a short speech, and the school showcased a video of my “Day in the Life” for the families. As a result, most families were interested in the Autobody Repair Program, and most of the incoming students applied for that program. I hope to continue to make a difference in my community by volunteering at my school high school during college breaks. I would like to create a club for tutoring and establish an environment where students feel comfortable to learn and grow. I look forward to showing other students the value of education that my mother instilled in me at a young age.

As a result, the production of the vehicle would increase due to the demand and I can be an inspiration to minorities. Therefore diversity in STEM careers is significant because diversity promotes a better industry. Diversity promotes more efficiency as well as the increase of workers in the industry. Diverse representation would allow more people who love STEM to believe that they are capable of becoming sound engineers and they can make a difference as well.
