I’m Raj’a Bue, a passionate first-generation college student from Brunswick, Georgia, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education at Albany State University. Cheerleading and dance have been a huge part of my life, teaching me resilience, leadership, and discipline qualities that support me as both a student and athlete. While I cherish cheerleading, my true passion lies in education, where I aim to empower young learners through inclusive and creative teaching.
Academically, I am committed to excellence and have set clear goals for my personal and professional growth. My experience as a Student Teacher has been transformative, instilling in me values like service above self, respect, and determination, and shaping my leadership skills. I believe teachers play a crucial role in building not just individual futures but a stronger society by giving children the tools to pursue lives they enjoy.
Balancing academics, athletics, and community service has taught me discipline and the importance of giving back. I am driven to break barriers and inspire the next generation to believe in their potential and chase their dreams.

My name is Raja Bue, and I am majoring in Elementary Education at Albany State University. Education has always been a fundamental part of my life, shaping not only who I am but also who I aspire to become. It is more than just a process of acquiring knowledge; it is a powerful tool that opens doors, transforms perspectives, and creates opportunities. For me, education represents hope, empowerment, and the beginning of a lifelong journey toward making a meaningful difference. As I pursue my degree, I am motivated by the belief that through education, I can inspire others and leave a legacy of positive change that extends far beyond the classroom.
Growing up, I experienced firsthand how education can be a lifeline. In my community, many children face obstacles such as limited access to resources, and a lack of encouragement. Witnessing this made me realize the critical role education plays in breaking these cycles and lifting individuals and families out of difficult circumstances. Education provided me with new perspectives and the confidence to dream bigger. It was the key that helped me navigate challenges and envision a better future, not only for myself but also for those around me.
To me, education is important because it is the foundation upon which we build our futures. It equips us with essential skills like critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving that are necessary in every aspect of life. Education fosters empathy and understanding, teaching us to appreciate diverse perspectives and collaborate effectively with others. My passion for elementary education stems from the desire to instill these values in young learners, ensuring that they grow up equipped not only academically but also as compassionate and responsible citizens.
The legacy I hope to leave is one of inspiration and empowerment. I want to be remembered as a teacher who made a meaningful impact on her students’ lives by believing in their potential and encouraging them to pursue their dreams despite obstacles. Every child deserves to feel supported and capable, and through my work, I aim to create safe, inclusive, and stimulating environments where students feel motivated to learn and grow. I want my students to leave my classroom not only with knowledge but also with confidence in themselves and their abilities.
In addition to impacting individual students, I aspire to contribute positively to the broader educational community. I hope to be a voice that advocates for equity and quality education for all children, regardless of their background. By collaborating with families, fellow educators, and community organizations, I intend to help bridge gaps and ensure that underserved students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
I want my legacy to reflect resilience and dedication. The challenges I have faced, including financial hardships and being a first-generation college student, have taught me the value of perseverance. I hope that my journey encourages others who might be struggling to understand that obstacles can be overcome through hard work and determination. By sharing my experiences and successes, I aim to inspire others to pursue their educational goals with confidence and hope.
Education is important to me because it empowers individuals and communities to unlock their full potential and create a better future. I am committed to using my education to serve others, instilling in my students the same passion for learning and personal growth that has guided me. The legacy I hope to leave is one of encouragement, equity, and lifelong learning a legacy that motivates others to believe in themselves and strive for excellence no matter the circumstances.
Dream BIG, Rise HIGHER Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Elementary Education at Albany State University. Education has been a cornerstone of my life, profoundly shaping my goals and providing me with a clear sense of direction. Throughout my journey, I have faced numerous challenges, yet my passion for learning and desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children have driven me forward. I believe that through education, I can create a better future not only for myself but also for my community by empowering young learners with the tools they need to succeed.
From a young age, I understood that education is more than just acquiring knowledge; it is a gateway to opportunities and personal growth. Growing up, I witnessed many children in my neighborhood struggle with limited access to resources. This reality inspired me to become an educator someone who can help bridge the educational gaps and inspire children to reach their full potential. As an elementary education major, I am committed to developing the skills and knowledge necessary to create inclusive and engaging learning environments where every student feels valued and motivated.
The direction that education has given me is clear and I want to be an influential and compassionate teacher who makes a tangible difference in the lives of students. Elementary education is particularly significant to me because these formative years lay the foundation for lifelong learning. I want to be that teacher who instills confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning in children, helping them overcome obstacles that I myself have encountered.
Challenges have been an integral part of my educational journey, shaping my resilience and determination. One of the most significant challenges I faced was balancing academic responsibilities with financial hardship. Coming from a family with limited financial resources, affording tuition, textbooks, and other educational expenses was often difficult. I had to take on part-time jobs while maintaining good grades and participating in volunteer activities related to education. This balancing act was demanding, but it taught me valuable lessons in time management, perseverance, and prioritizing my long-term goals.
Another challenge has been navigating the educational system as a first-generation college student. I sought support from mentors, advisors, and peers, which helped me build confidence and develop strategies for academic success. This experience deepened my empathy for students who may also feel overwhelmed by the prospect of pursuing education and solidified my desire to provide guidance and encouragement as a teacher.
My education at Albany State University has equipped me with a solid foundation child development and instructional strategies. I have also had opportunities to engage in hands-on experiences through student teaching and community involvement, which have been invaluable in preparing me for the classroom. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education not only as a means of individual advancement but also as a tool for social change.
Looking ahead, I hope to use my education to create a better future by fostering equity and inclusivity in education. I want to work in schools that serve diverse populations and address the unique challenges faced by children from different backgrounds. By incorporating culturally responsive teaching methods and creating supportive learning environments, I aim to help all students feel seen and empowered to succeed.
Beyond the classroom, I am passionate about advocating for educational policies that promote access and fairness. I envision working with community organizations, parents, and fellow educators to build partnerships that enhance educational opportunities for underserved populations. My ultimate goal is to contribute to a system where every child, regardless of their circumstances, can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
In conclusion, education has been the guiding force in my life, shaping my goals and giving me a clear path toward making a meaningful impact. Despite the challenges I have faced, my commitment to becoming an elementary school teacher remains steadfast. Through my education, I have gained the knowledge, skills, and resilience necessary to support and inspire the next generation of learners. I am confident that by using what I have learned at Albany State University, I will contribute to building a brighter and more equitable future for children and communities. Receiving this scholarship would not only alleviate some of the financial burdens I face but also affirm my dedication to this important journey. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue pursuing my passion and making a difference through education. Thank you for considering my application and providing me with the opportunity to pursue my dreams through this scholarship.
Hearts on Sleeves, Minds in College Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I’m an Elementary Education major at Albany State University. One of the most important moments I had using my voice happened recently during my time in college. It wasn’t anything dramatic, but it showed me how speaking up can make a difference even in a new environment where everyone is trying to find their place.
During my first year at Albany State, I joined a student organization that focused on community service and leadership development. It was a great opportunity to meet people and get involved on campus. However, during one of the meetings, I noticed a fellow student being singled out and treated unfairly by some group members. They made jokes and excluded her ideas during the discussion. She looked uncomfortable, and it was clear that she felt shut out.
At first, I didn’t say anything. I wasn’t sure if I should get involved or if I was making a big deal out of nothing. I also worried about rocking the boat in a group that I was still trying to fit into. But as the meeting went on, I realized this wasn’t right. Everyone deserves respect and a chance to be heard, especially in a space meant to promote leadership and growth.
I reminded the group that it’s important to listen to and value everyone’s contributions. I encouraged us to create a welcoming space where different perspectives are appreciated, not dismissed.
Afterwards, a few members thanked me for saying something. The student who had been ignored also expressed gratitude, and over the next few meetings, I noticed the tone of the group became more inclusive. That small moment of using my voice reminded me that standing up for fairness doesn’t have to be dramatic it’s about having the courage to speak out when something feels wrong.
This experience taught me several things about communication and confidence. First, I learned that using your voice isn’t always about making big speeches sometimes it’s the small, steady nudges that create change. Second, I realized it’s okay to feel nervous about speaking up in new spaces. What matters is pushing through that fear to stand for what’s right. Finally, I learned that effective communication means being respectful and authentic.
As I continue my education at Albany State, these lessons are at the heart of why I want to become a teacher. I want to create classrooms where every student feels safe and respected and where they can use their voices without fear. I also want to be a role model who shows kids that it’s okay to speak up even if you’re nervous because your ideas matter.
Beyond the classroom, I hope to use my voice to advocate for students’ well-being and inclusion on campus. College can be intimidating, and I want to help create environments where everyone feels valued and supported. That might mean leading student groups, mentoring younger students, or working with campus organizations to promote kindness and respect.
Looking back on that moment in the student group, I’m proud that I didn’t stay silent. Using my voice in college isn’t always easy, but it’s necessary. It has helped me grow in confidence and reminded me that leadership means showing up not just for yourself, but for others too.
I’m excited to keep building my communication skills and using my voice to create more inclusive spaces both as a student and in my future career as a teacher. Each step I take, no matter how small, brings me closer to making a meaningful impact in my community and beyond.
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I come from a unique and inspiring family background that has played a huge role in shaping who I am and what I want to do in the future. I was raised in a blended family, with my mother, who has been a police officer for 18 years, and my father, who is actually my stepfather but has been my dad in every way that matters. He is a Battalion Fire Chief with 20 years of service and has raised me as his own. Growing up in this household, surrounded by two people committed to serving and protecting others, deeply influenced my values and dreams.
Being raised in a blended family where both parents are public servants has given me a front-row seat to the meaning of hard work, courage, and sacrifice. My mom and father work long, often unpredictable hours, and they face challenges daily that most people never experience. Even with all the demands of their careers, they have always made family a priority, showing me the true meaning of dedication not only to a job but to the people you love and the community you serve.
This environment has taught me resilience and commitment from a young age. I’ve learned that life doesn’t always go as planned, and sometimes you have to adapt and push through difficult moments. Whether it was juggling schoolwork with family duties or adjusting to having two parental figures blending their families together, I developed flexibility and an understanding heart. Their example showed me how important it is to stay strong in the face of stress and to always keep working toward your goals, no matter the obstacles.
Even though my parents’ careers are in law enforcement and firefighting, I’ve found my own path in education, studying Elementary Education at Albany State University. While I might not follow their exact footsteps, the core values they live by service, leadership, and care for others are absolutely the foundation of my future goals. I believe that whatever career I end up in, my talents and passions will be used to help people in meaningful ways.
Growing up watching my mom and father, I’ve become passionate about creating positive change. I want to inspire others to believe in themselves, much like my parents have inspired me with their bravery and love. I see education as a powerful tool to do this. I am driven by the idea of supporting young children not just academically, but emotionally and socially too so they can grow up strong and confident.
I dream to become a teacher, to help children find their voice and power early in life. No matter where I end up, my goal is clear: to make a positive difference and give back to the community. I’ve experienced firsthand the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the power of serving others. These lessons inspire me to keep growing and working toward a future where my talents help people whether that’s in a classroom, a community center, or somewhere I haven’t even imagined yet.
I’m proud of my family story. It’s made me resilient, compassionate, and committed to a vision of using what I have to support, uplift, and serve others.
Shop Home Med Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am an undergraduate student at Albany State University studying Elementary Education. A big part of who I am today has been shaped by my experience caring for my grandmother, who has Alzheimer’s disease. Watching her journey with this illness and supporting her along the way has taught me more about patience, compassion, and strength than I ever expected.
My grandmother is a very special person in my life. She’s full of stories, laughter, and love, but Alzheimer’s has gradually taken away parts of her memory and independence. At first, it was small things forgetting where she put her keys or repeating stories but over time, the changes became more serious. She needed more help with daily tasks, and it became clear that she required constant care and attention.
Being involved in her care has been challenging but also deeply meaningful. I’ve had to learn how to be patient when she becomes confused or frustrated. Those moments can be tough because it’s hard to see someone so full of life struggle with simple things. But I remind myself that she isn’t the disease; she’s still the same kind grandmother who loves to sing old songs or tell me about her childhood. That perspective helps me treat her with respect and gentleness every day.
Caring for my grandmother has also taught me about the importance of empathy. Alzheimer’s can make people act in ways that are confusing or difficult to understand, but I’ve learned to look beyond the behavior and try to understand what she might be feeling or needing. Whether it’s frustration, fear, or loneliness, recognizing those emotions has helped me respond with kindness rather than impatience.
This experience has shaped my goals and the way I see the world. It inspired my passion for education, especially working with children who need extra support. I believe that every personwhether a child or an elderly family member deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion. I want to be a teacher who understands the challenges my students might face, whether at home or in school, and create an environment where they feel safe and valued.
Caring for my grandmother has also taught me the value of sacrifice and responsibility. Balancing family duties with schoolwork and other aspects of life hasn’t always been easy. There have been times when I had to adjust my schedule to make sure she had the help she needed, or skip social events so I could be there for her. These sacrifices have helped me develop strong time management skills and a deep sense of commitment.
More than anything, this journey has given me a kind of emotional strength and maturity that I hadn’t expected to have at this age. It has shown me the power of love and resilience in the face of difficulty. Through caring for my grandmother, I’ve learned lessons about life, patience, and hope that I will carry with me into my future career and beyond.
I am grateful for the opportunity to care for my grandmother. While Alzheimer’s has changed our lives in many ways, it has also strengthened our bond. It has shaped me into someone who is more aware, compassionate, and committed to making a difference both in my family and in the wider community.
Kerry Kennedy Life Is Good Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am currently studying Elementary Education at Albany State University. The career I have chosen is to become an elementary school teacher, and I am deeply passionate about it because I believe education is the key to empowering children and transforming communities.
From a young age, I realized the importance of good teachers who not only teach academics but also inspire confidence and kindness. I want to be that kind of teacher someone who makes learning enjoyable and helps every child believe in their abilities. Teaching young students is meaningful to me because they are at a stage where encouragement can shape their futures, and I want to be part of that positive change.
Pursuing this career requires a lot of dedication and sacrifice. One of the biggest sacrifices I’ve made is my time. Balancing a full course load with part-time work, dance, cheer, and family responsibilities means I often have to give up social gatherings, time with family and friends, and even rest. There have been late nights studying for exams and early mornings preparing lesson plans for volunteer tutoring. Sometimes, the exhaustion is real, but I remind myself why I’m doing this.
Financially, I’ve had to be very careful. Being a first-generation college student means I don’t have a financial safety net, so I have worked seasonal jobs alongside school to support my education. It’s not always easy, and it sometimes feels like there’s no break, but these sacrifices have taught me resilience, responsibility, and the value of perseverance.
Another sacrifice has been putting some personal dreams on hold temporarily. For example, family trips, traveling and other luxuries that some may take for granted are things I have postponed because I prioritize my education and community service. But I know that in the long run, these sacrifices will allow me to achieve a career that I’m truly passionate about and make a meaningful impact.
Ultimately, my passion for teaching and serving my community keeps me motivated through the sacrifices. I know that the effort I put in today will not only shape my future but hopefully inspire and uplift generations of children to come. Each challenge I overcome brings me one step closer to becoming the teacher I aspire to be. I’m excited for the future because I know that through hard work and sacrifice, I can make a real difference in the lives of my students.
Harvest Scholarship for Women Dreamers
My name is Raja Bue, and I am an Elementary Education major at Albany State University. When I think about my “Pie in the Sky” the big dream for my life that feels both inspiring and just out of reach it’s this: I want to create a community learning center that transforms the way children in underserved neighborhoods experience education. A place where every child feels inspired, supported, and equipped not only academically but also emotionally and socially to become their best self.
This dream began to take shape during my time volunteering in after-school programs. I saw firsthand how many children struggle with challenges that go beyond textbooks they face food insecurity, unstable home environments, and a lack of resources that make school harder than it should be. Many simply don’t have access to the kind of support that fosters real growth and confidence. The learning center I imagine would offer tutoring, mentorship, mental health support, and creative outlets like art and music all under one roof. I want it to be a safe haven where children and families know they are seen and valued.
What makes this dream feel just out of reach is the scale and complexity of such a project. It’s easy to want to change the world, but creating a sustainable, effective community center takes funding, partnerships, professional expertise, and years of planning. Sometimes I wonder Do I have what it takes? But that doubt is also what fuels my commitment to growth.
I know there are clear steps I’ll need to take to bring this dream closer to reality. First, I need to excel in my studies and complete my degree in Elementary Education. Becoming a skilled and compassionate educator is foundational because I want to understand deeply how children learn and what they truly need. Beyond my formal education, I plan to seek internships and volunteer opportunities that expose me to different aspects of community work and educational leadership.
Next, I want to expand my skills in areas like nonprofit management, grant writing, and counseling. I recognize that running a community center is as much about administration and resources as it is about teaching and care. Taking workshops, attending seminars, or even pursuing additional certifications in these areas will be essential.
Networking will also be a big part of the journey. I hope to connect with mentors, local leaders, and organizations dedicated to education and community development. These relationships will provide guidance, open doors for collaboration, and help me build the kind of support system necessary for a project of this scale.
Most importantly, I want to commit to lifelong learning and resilience. The road won’t be smooth, and I am sure I will face setbacks. But I believe courage isn’t about never being afraid it’s about moving forward with purpose even when fear is present. Creativity will be important too, because every community has its unique needs, and solutions require adaptability and imagination.
The spark behind my dream is simple: a belief that every child deserves an equal chance to thrive, regardless of their circumstances. Growing up, I saw how education could open doors, and I want to be part of a movement that makes those doors wider and more accessible for others.
While my “Pie in the Sky” feels big now, I am choosing to approach it one step at a time, learning and growing along the way. This dream motivates me every day to become the kind of leader and servant my community needs, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.
Priscilla Shireen Luke Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am an elementary education major at Albany State University. Giving back to my community has always been a deeply important part of my life. I believe that when we help others, we create a better world for everyone. Right now, while I’m still a student, I do my best to contribute in ways that align with my passion for education and community service.
Currently, I volunteer at local after-school programs where I help younger children with their homework and organize educational activities. Many of these kids come from under-resourced neighborhoods, and the after-school program gives them a safe space to learn and grow. I enjoy working with them because it allows me to see the impact of education firsthand. It’s rewarding to watch a child’s face light up when they finally understand a difficult concept or feel confident reading out loud. I also assist in organizing community events like food drives and neighborhood clean-ups through my university’s student organizations. These events bring people together and show that small acts can make a big difference.
Besides volunteering, I believe giving back means being a positive role model. Whether it's through my interactions with friends, classmates, or the younger kids I mentor, I try to lead with kindness, patience, and encouragement. I want to inspire others to give their best and to believe that they too can make a difference, no matter how small their actions may seem.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue this path of service as a teacher. Elementary education is more than just teaching reading or math; it’s about shaping the whole child and helping them develop confidence, empathy, and a love for learning. I want to make my classroom a welcoming place where every student feels seen and supported. By fostering a positive environment, I hope to empower my students to believe in themselves and to pass on that spirit of giving back to their own communities.
In addition to teaching, I envision myself creating programs that support children’s mental health and well-being. I know firsthand how important it is for kids to have access to resources that help them manage stress and build resilience, especially in today’s fast-paced world. By advocating for and implementing these programs, I believe we can address some of the barriers that prevent children from succeeding academically and personally.
Ultimately, my goal is to have a ripple effect. When one child feels supported and valued, that confidence can spread to families, neighborhoods, and beyond. I want to be part of a movement that lifts up communities through education and service. Whether it’s by volunteering at a local center, developing new teaching methods, or simply showing kindness every day, I am committed to making a positive impact in the world.
Giving back is not just something I do now it’s who I am, and it’s what I aspire to continue doing for the rest of my life.
Audra Dominguez "Be Brave" Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am an undergraduate student at Albany State University studying Elementary Education. Like many people, I have faced various challenges on my journey both physical and mental that at times made me question whether I could keep going. But through these experiences, I learned important lessons about resilience, determination, and the power of staying focused on my dreams.
When I first started college, adjusting to the academic workload and being away from home was difficult. I struggled with anxiety and self-doubt, especially during my freshman year. There were moments when the pressure felt overwhelming, and it seemed easier to give up than to keep pushing forward. But I realized that setbacks aren’t the end of the road they are opportunities to grow stronger and become better equipped to handle what lies ahead.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was balancing school with work, dance, cheer, and responsibilities. Being a first-generation college student means that I have had to take on a lot at once. There were times when I felt exhausted physically and mentally from juggling classes, dance, cheer, and a part-time job for extra money. This constant pressure sometimes made me feel like I wouldn’t be able to keep up or reach my goals.
Instead of giving up, I learned to create a structured plan that allowed me to manage my time effectively. I prioritized my tasks, set small achievable goals, and made sure to communicate with my professors whenever I needed support. I also leaned on my support system friends, family, and mentors who encouraged me to keep going when things got tough. This experience taught me the value of persistence and asking for help when needed.
Mentally, I worked hard to manage stress through mindfulness techniques, exercise, and seeking support from counselors and friends. I learned that mental health is just as important as physical health, especially when pursuing a demanding career like education. Taking care of myself enabled me to maintain clarity and motivation, even when things got tough.
Throughout these challenges, I kept my goals in sight. I reminded myself why I chose elementary education: to serve children and build brighter futures for my community. This purpose gave me strength and perspective. I realized that adversity is part of the journey and that pushing through difficulties would make me a more compassionate and effective teacher in the long run.
Today, I continue to approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset. Whether it’s balancing coursework, volunteering, or managing personal struggles, I focus on what I can control and seek out support when needed. I believe that resilience isn’t about never falling it’s about getting back up every time and learning something valuable along the way.
In the future, as an educator, I want to model this resilience for my students. I want them to see that setbacks happen to everyone, but they don’t define us. With perseverance, support, and a clear sense of purpose, we can overcome obstacles and achieve our dreams.
Facing adversity has taught me that the path to success is rarely smooth. But every step I take, even the difficult ones, brings me closer to becoming the teacher and community servant I aspire to be.
Emma Jane Hastie Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am currently an undergraduate student at Albany State University pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. Growing up, I’ve always believed in the power of service and the importance of giving back to one’s community. Service work often goes unnoticed, but it is the foundation that helps communities grow stronger and more connected.
Choosing elementary education as my career path was a decision driven by a desire to serve others and empower future generations. Teaching young children is not just a job to me; it’s a commitment to nurturing their potential and creating an environment where they feel valued, supported, and inspired. Children are the heart of any community, and by equipping them with knowledge and confidence, I believe we can foster a thriving, compassionate society.
One particular experience that solidified my passion for community service happened during my sophomore year at Albany State University. I volunteered with a local after-school program that supports children from under-resourced neighborhoods. Many of these children faced challenges outside the classroom whether it was food insecurity, lack of access to educational resources, or an unstable home environment. My role was to assist with homework, organize fun learning activities, and provide a safe and welcoming space for these kids to express themselves.
I remember one student struggled with reading and was often frustrated by her difficulties. I spent extra time with her, using creative games and encouragement to help improve her skills. Over the course of time I witnessed her confidence grow not just in reading, but in her willingness to participate and share her ideas.
In addition to volunteering, I have also been involved in organizing community clean-up events and food drives. These experiences have taught me the value of teamwork, leadership, and consistent commitment. Service is not always grand or heroic in the traditional sense it’s often small acts of kindness and dedication that create lasting impacts.
Emma Jane Hastie’s legacy of fostering a giving environment resonates deeply with me because I see service as a lifelong journey. While lucrative careers are important and often tempting, I choose a path where success is measured not by income or status, but by the positive change I bring to the lives of others. Education may not be the most financially rewarding field, but it is certainly one of the most impactful. Teaching children how to read, think critically, and care for their community is a service that ripples outward for years to come.
Looking forward, I plan to continue my commitment to servitude as a teacher and community advocate. I hope to develop programs that support children’s mental health and well-being, recognizing that education is not just about academics but about nurturing the whole child. I want to be one of those unsung heroes who quietly builds a foundation of hope and opportunity for future generations.
Thank you for considering my application. I am excited about the possibility of continuing my journey in servitude and making a meaningful difference in my community.
Grand Oaks Enterprises LLC Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and as I prepare to begin my studies at Albany State University, I reflect with pride and gratitude on the journey that has brought me here. The path to this moment has been marked by challenges, growth, and a strong commitment to education. Attending Albany State University, a distinguished Historically Black College and University (HBCU), means more than earning a degree to me; it represents an opportunity to embrace my cultural heritage, develop as a leader, and prepare to make a meaningful impact through my chosen career in elementary education.
Growing up, education was always held in the highest regard by my family. Despite financial and social obstacles, my parents and mentors instilled in me the belief that education is the key to unlocking doors of opportunity and empowerment. My academic journey has not been without difficulties, but these experiences strengthened my resolve to succeed and serve others. I worked diligently in school, took on leadership roles in my community, and sought guidance from those who believed in me. Each step reinforced my passion for helping others learn and grow, especially young children.
Choosing Albany State University was a deliberate decision fueled by my desire to be part of an institution rooted in excellence, cultural pride, and community. As an HBCU, Albany State offers a unique educational experience that honors Black history and culture while nurturing academic and personal development. Attending an HBCU means joining a supportive environment where my identity is celebrated, and my potential is fully realized. I value the relationships, mentorship, and cultural affirmation that Albany State provides, which will prepare me not only to succeed academically but also to lead with heart and purpose.
Majoring in Elementary Education aligns perfectly with my passion and commitment to community upliftment. Early childhood is a critical stage in a child’s development—it is when foundational skills, values, and confidence are established. I want to dedicate my life to creating positive, nurturing, and engaging learning environments for young students. By becoming an elementary school teacher, I intend to inspire and empower the next generation, particularly children from under-resourced communities who may face obstacles similar to those I have overcome.

I hope my example will motivate younger family members and community youth to value education and envision possibilities beyond immediate circumstances. My success can be a shared triumph that creates a legacy of learning, growth, and empowerment for generations to come.
Beyond my family, I see my role as an educator extending into the community. Schools are vital centers that not only educate but also shape the social and emotional well-being of children and families. I plan to work in schools that serve diverse and underserved populations, bringing passion and dedication to help close achievement gaps and create equity in education. I believe that by fostering strong relationships between schools, families, and community organizations, I can contribute to building supportive networks that uplift children holistically.

In conclusion, my journey to Albany State University has been shaped by resilience, support, and a deep commitment to education. Attending an HBCU is a source of pride and empowerment, providing a space where my identity and aspirations are nurtured. As I major in Elementary Education, I am excited to prepare myself to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, my family, and my community. ADHDAdvisor Scholarship for Health Students
My name is Raja Bue, and I am currently a student at Albany State University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Though my field of study is education, I have developed a strong passion for mental health advocacy, particularly as it relates to supporting young people’s emotional well-being. The mental health crisis impacting communities worldwide is a challenge that deeply affects not only those directly struggling but also those preparing to enter caring professions. I believe that educators like myself play a critical role in fostering mental health awareness and providing compassionate support, helping to change the often-negative narrative surrounding mental health challenges.
Mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and stress have become increasingly common among children and adolescents, yet stigma and limited access to resources often prevent them from receiving the help they need. Throughout my academic journey and personal experiences, I have witnessed how silence and misunderstanding can worsen these struggles. This awareness has motivated me to support peers and community members by promoting open dialogue about mental health. For example, I have volunteered with campus groups that organize mental health workshops and peer support sessions to create safe environments where students feel comfortable discussing their feelings without judgment.
As a future elementary school teacher, I intend to be more than just an educator of academics. I want to be a mentor and advocate who recognizes the importance of social and emotional learning as fundamental to a child’s success. My education courses emphasize strategies for building supportive classroom communities, identifying early signs of emotional distress, and collaborating with families and mental health professionals to provide appropriate interventions. I plan to integrate mental health education into my teaching practices, helping students develop self-awareness, empathy, and resilience from a young age.
Although I am not studying within a traditional healthcare program, I see my role as vital in promoting mental health and well-being within my community. Teachers often serve as frontline observers of children’s mental health, and by applying my knowledge and compassion, I can be a catalyst for positive change. I am committed to advocating for mental health resources in schools and championing programs that reduce stigma and increase access to support services.
Through my studies in elementary education, I am dedicated to contributing to the well-being of my community and honoring the mission of this scholarship by promoting mental health awareness and compassionate care for all.

Elizabeth Schalk Memorial Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and mental health has deeply affected my life, especially through the loss of my uncle, who was very close to me. His struggle with mental illness and eventual suicide left a lasting impact on my family and me, shaping how I understand pain, resilience, and the importance of compassion.
My uncle was more than just family; he was a mentor and a friend who played a significant role in my life. Growing up, I could see glimpses of his kindness and humor, but I also noticed moments when he struggled with sadness and isolation. At the time, mental illness was not openly discussed in my family, and we lacked the awareness and resources to fully understand what he was going through. Despite our love and support, his pain remained largely invisible, and we did not always know how to help him.
When he died by suicide, it was a devastating and confusing experience for all of us. The grief was profound, but so was the silence mental illness felt like a shadow no one wanted to name. His death made me acutely aware of how critical it is to break down the stigma surrounding mental health, to recognize that those who suffer need understanding, not judgment, and that timely support can save lives.
This personal loss has fueled my passion for mental health awareness and advocacy. I have sought out opportunities to educate myself and others about mental wellness, embracing conversations that were once difficult to have in my family. I have volunteered with local organizations focused on mental health support and participated in peer mentorship, where I encourage openness and provide listening ears for those struggling. I believe that by sharing our stories, we can create communities of support where no one feels alone.
Mental illness has not only affected me emotionally but has taught me resilience and empathy. It has motivated me to pursue a career in elementary education, where I hope to foster safe and nurturing environments for children. I want to be a teacher who is attentive not only to academic growth but also to emotional well-being someone who can recognize when a child is hurting and help guide them toward healing and hope.
The experience of losing my uncle has been a difficult chapter, but it has also been a catalyst for growth and purpose. It has shown me the importance of kindness, patience, and active listening. More than anything, it has inspired me to be a force for positive change, working to ensure that others have access to the mental health resources and compassionate communities they deserve.
Sharing my story is part of my commitment to fostering awareness and breaking the silence, to honor my uncle’s memory and to help others find hope.

Donovan Harpster “Called to Teach” Scholarship
One significant hardship I have overcome is caring for my grandmother as she battles Alzheimer’s disease. Watching her slowly lose her memory, independence, and sense of self was and is an emotional and challenging journey that deeply shaped my perspective on life, patience, and compassion. Alzheimer’s is a heartbreaking and progressive condition that gradually steals memories and abilities, forcing families to adapt continuously to new realities. Experiencing this firsthand taught me about the complexity of grief not just mourning a person’s death, but the profound loss of who they once were.
Caring for my grandmother required tremendous patience and understanding. There are moments of frustration and sadness as I witness her confusion, forgetfulness, and occasional fear. I learned the importance of empathy, recognizing that although she struggled with recall or everyday tasks, her emotions and need for dignity remained deeply intact. Helping her requires not only practical assistance but also a calm, reassuring presence that honoring her feelings. Through this experience, I discovered the power of adapting communication, providing comfort, and cherishing meaningful moments.
This experience of caregiving taught me lessons I plan to carry into my future career as a educator. I understand that each student comes with a unique story and potentially unseen struggles, much like my grandmother’s internal battle with Alzheimer’s. I want to create a classroom environment where students feel valued and supported, regardless of their challenges. Patience and empathy will guide me in helping students overcome academic or personal difficulties, fostering resilience and self-worth. Just as I am learning to celebrate small victories with my grandmother, I will encourage and uplift my students through their own journeys of growth.
My drive to become a teacher springs from a desire to make a meaningful difference in young people’s lives to be a source of stability, encouragement, and understanding much like a caregiver’s role. I want to empower students not only academically but emotionally, providing them with the tools and confidence to navigate obstacles. The lessons I learned caring for my grandmother about compassion, the importance of presence, and honoring each individual’s worth have ignited my passion to support students holistically and help them thrive in and beyond the classroom.
Overcoming hardships have shaped my values of empathy, patience, and resilience. These lessons will influence how I teach and support future students by fostering a nurturing, understanding environment where every student feels seen and supported. My experience drives me to pursue teaching as a meaningful way to impact lives positively and create a lasting difference for young people facing their own challenges.
Joseph A. Terbrack ALS Memorial Scholarship
Being a childhood classmate of someone with ALS has really changed how I see life and taught me a lot about strength, compassion, and what it means to stick together. Watching my friend go through the tough and gradual changes the disease brings has been hard but also eye-opening. ALS affects not just the person diagnosed but everyone around them family, friends, and people who care. Seeing this up close showed me how important support and kindness really are during difficult times.
ALS has made me realize how fragile life is and how important it is to appreciate every moment. Even though my friend’s physical abilities slowly declined, their courage and spirit stayed strong, which inspired me to stay determined whenever I face challenges. It made me understand the real struggles people with long-term illnesses go through the fear, frustration, and the daily effort to keep pushing forward.
From this experience, I’ve learned how vital it is to be there for others, not just physically but emotionally too. Small acts of kindness really matter and can make a big difference. It also made me see how important it is to raise awareness about ALS and support families dealing with it.
I want to take what I’ve learned and help people who are going through similar challenges. I plan to pursue education and community work because I believe we can make life better for others by showing empathy and offering practical help.
Education is a crucial part of how I plan to move forward after my experience with ALS affecting my childhood friend. Pursuing a college education will not only provide me with the knowledge and skills I need to make a meaningful difference, but it will also allow me to develop the resilience and perspective that this journey has already begun to teach me. By dedicating myself to learning whether through formal study or community involvement—I aim to build a strong foundation to advocate for ALS awareness, support patients and families, and contribute to research or social services related to the disease. Scholarships like this one are vital because they offer students affected by ALS the resources and encouragement to continue their education without being held back by financial or emotional challenges. Ultimately, education is the pathway through which I hope to transform personal experience into positive action, helping others in similar situations and bringing hope to the ALS community.
The F.O.O. Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am a first-generation college student currently enrolled at Albany State University. Growing up in a low-income household, I have faced challenges that many around me seldom experience. Balancing financial hardship with the demands of school and family has tested my resilience and determination. Despite these obstacles, I have remained steadfast in my commitment to education and personal growth.
My dreams are fueled by a desire to uplift myself and my community, especially other women and minorities who face similar barriers. I am passionate about dance and cheer, which have taught me leadership, discipline, and the importance of teamwork. Beyond the classroom and gym, I actively volunteer in local outreach programs and mentor younger students, sharing my experiences and encouraging them to persevere. RonranGlee Literary Scholarship
“Behold! human beings living in an underground den, which has a mouth open towards the light and reaching all along the den; here they have been from their childhood, and have their legs and necks chained so that they cannot move, and can only see before them, being prevented by the chains from turning their heads around. Above and behind them a fire is blazing at a distance, and between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way; and you will see, if you look, a low wall built along the way, like the screen which marionette players have in front of them, over which they show the puppets.”
Plato’s Allegory of the Cave portrays a profound insight into the human condition: the tension between perception and reality, and the struggle for enlightenment. In this passage, the prisoners’ chains symbolize intellectual and sensory limitations that confine humans to a narrow view of truth, shaped only by shadows cast on the wall before them. The underground cave represents the realm of ignorance, where knowledge is blocked by physical and metaphorical chains constraints such as upbringing, societal influence, or the incomplete nature of sensory experience. The blazing fire behind the prisoners creates the shadows they see, not reality itself; thus, their understanding is a mere illusion, shaped by appearances rather than essence.
The underlying meaning here is Plato’s critique of unexamined life and superficial knowledge. He suggests that most people live constrained by limited perspectives, accepting surface appearances as truth without questioning or seeking deeper understanding. The prisoners' inability to turn their heads highlights humanity’s potential resistance to challenging comfort zones or habits of thought. This passage invites readers to recognize the importance of critical inquiry and self-awareness to break free from metaphorical chains.
In the context of education, this allegory serves as a powerful metaphor for the transformative power of knowledge and reflective thinking. The shadows symbolize incomplete or distorted information that can mislead if not examined critically. Close reading, then, becomes a vital tool for “turning one’s head” beyond the shadows to perceive the “fire” and eventually the world outside the cave. It encourages intellectual liberation through deliberate effort, questioning, and deeper engagement with texts and ideas.
Plato’s imagery provokes reflection on the discomfort and challenge inherent in pursuing truth. The prisoner’s initial exposure to the light outside the cave though not described here symbolizes the painful but necessary process of enlightenment. This suggests that seeking knowledge requires courage to confront familiar illusions and accept new realities, affirming that true education is more than rote learning; it is a transformative experience that reshapes one’s understanding of existence. The chains restricting movement represent not only physical restraint but also mental inertia that must be overcome by conscious effort.
Plato’s allegory highlights the communal responsibility that comes with enlightenment. Once a prisoner is freed and gains true knowledge, they face the moral obligation to return to the cave to help others break free from ignorance, despite potential resistance or misunderstanding. This element emphasizes that wisdom is not solely personal but inherently tied to service and leadership within society. It challenges readers to consider how they might use their own insights to uplift others and encourages an active, compassionate role in fostering collective growth. Thus, close reading is not only a means for individual intellectual freedom but also a crucial step toward contributing thoughtfully and ethically to the broader community.
Ultimately, this passage underscores that perception alone is insufficient for genuine knowledge. To live meaningfully and authentically, individuals must strive to overcome constraints and seek insights beneath surface appearances. This allegory resonates in modern education’s emphasis on analytical thinking and deliberate interpretation, reminding us that the pursuit of wisdom requires persistent inquiry, humility, and the willingness to challenge preconceived notions. Close reading intentional, careful examination enables us to break free from our own caves of misunderstanding and glimpse deeper, more profound truths about the world and ourselves.
Ed and Aline Patane Kind, Compassion, Joy and Generosity Memorial Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and my life has been profoundly shaped by my faith, my commitment to serving others, and the importance of family values that I deeply admire in Ed and Aline Patane. Living a faith-based life has given me strength and guidance through challenging times and a clear path toward helping others and embracing joy in everyday moments.
Faith has been my foundation. There was a pivotal moment when I struggled with balancing the demands of school, extracurricular activities, work, and helping my family. The stress felt overwhelming, and I questioned if I could manage it all. It was my faith that grounded me. This spiritual grounding encouraged me to prioritize wisely, seek support when needed, and remain hopeful. Serving others has been a vital part of how I live out my faith and values. I have volunteered regularly through my church and community organizations, participating in food drives, tutoring programs, and mentoring younger students. One of my most meaningful experiences was organizing a community event to provide educational resources for children from underserved neighborhoods. Seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing I could make a difference, no matter how small, reinforced my commitment to service. Volunteering not only helps others but also strengthens my empathy and leadership skills, motivating me to keep giving back.
Family is the cornerstone of my life. They provide love, support, and inspiration daily. Growing up in a close-knit household, I learned the importance of being there for one another. From helping with household responsibilities to supporting younger siblings with their schoolwork, I strive to honor and strengthen my family bonds every day. Family traditions, such as celebrating cultural holidays and sharing meals, create joyful connections that remind me of the value of togetherness. These experiences ground me and fuel my desire to give back to my community with the same love and care.
Joy is essential to a balanced, purposeful life. I find happiness through dance and cheer, which allow me to express myself creatively and build strong friendships. These activities bring energy and laughter to my life and help me relieve stress. I also treasure moments spent with family, whether watching movies, cooking together, or simply sharing stories. These joyful experiences keep me resilient and hopeful as I pursue my educational and personal goals.
Looking ahead, I hope to continue embodying the values of faith, kindness, family devotion, and service that Ed and Aline Patane lived. These experiences have taught me time management, perseverance, and teamwork skills that are indispensable both on and off the field.
Athletics has always been a significant part of my life. I have been involved in cheerleading and dance for several years, participating in competitions that demand dedication and physical endurance. While not a football player, I share the competitive spirit and commitment that football players embody. I believe sports teach us how to overcome adversity, work with others toward a common goal, and maintain discipline traits that carry over into every area of life.
Looking ahead, my ambition is to become an elementary school teacher who inspires and empowers young learners, particularly those from underserved communities. I want to build inclusive classrooms where children feel valued and supported, nurturing not only academic growth but also social confidence. Through education, I hope to create a positive ripple effect that uplifts families and communities.
I am motivated by the strength of my family, the discipline of athletics, and my passion for education. I am grateful for this opportunity to apply and inspired to carry forward Stephan’s legacy in my own journey.
Zedikiah Randolph Memorial Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am a Black undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education at Albany State University. Growing up in a community where resources were limited and opportunities scarce, I quickly realized the transformative power of education. This inspired me to choose a career where I can make a tangible difference by nurturing and empowering young minds, especially those from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds.
Education is foundational to breaking cycles of poverty and inequality. As a Black woman in the field of education, I am part of a minority group that faces underrepresentation, with only a small percentage of educators from BIPOC communities at the elementary level. This reality fuels my commitment not only to succeed academically but also to be a visible role model for students of color. I want to show children that their dreams are valid and attainable, regardless of their circumstances.
I chose Early Childhood Education because I believe that giving children a strong start is the key to community upliftment. By equipping young learners with critical thinking skills, confidence, and a love for learning, I aim to empower them to pursue STEM and other fields where BIPOC individuals are historically underrepresented. My goal is to help close the opportunity gap and create a more inclusive educational environment.
In addition to teaching, I plan to advocate for greater diversity in education and support initiatives that provide mentorship and resources to BIPOC students interested in STEM and other careers. I believe inspiring the next generation requires not only representation but also active engagement sharing my story, offering guidance, and creating access to networks and opportunities that were once out of reach.
By pursuing this degree and representing an underrepresented community in education, I hope to challenge norms and open doors for those who follow. Through dedication, visibility, and advocacy, I aim to increase the percentage of BIPOC professionals, making these fields more accessible and equitable. This scholarship would provide vital support as I continue on this impactful journey.
Furthermore, I recognize that systemic barriers do not only affect students but also impact how schools and communities function. To address this, I plan to engage in policy advocacy and work closely with community organizations to promote equitable funding, culturally responsive teaching practices, and inclusive curricula that reflect the diverse experiences of BIPOC students. By combining my role as an educator with community activism, I aim to create lasting change that not only benefits individual students but also transforms the educational landscape, making STEM and other fields genuinely accessible and welcoming to all. Through this holistic approach, I hope to inspire others to join in the effort to build a more just and inclusive future.
Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Math has always fascinated me because it is like a universal language that explains the world around us. What I love most about math is its clarity and logic there is a right answer, and every problem has a process to reach that solution. This certainty gives me a sense of structure and confidence, knowing that with the right approach, I can solve even the toughest problems.
Beyond the classroom, math teaches essential skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking, which are invaluable in everyday life. Whether managing a budget, planning time, or making decisions, math helps me think logically and approach challenges methodically. These skills empower me not only academically but also in real-world situations.
I also appreciate how math connects to so many subjects and professions, from technology and science to business and economics. It is the foundation behind the innovations that shape our world whether that’s in developing new technologies, analyzing economic trends, or designing engineering marvels. This versatility inspires me because it means that mastering math opens doors to countless possibilities and careers where I can make a difference.
I enjoy the challenge and creativity involved in math. Each problem is like a puzzle that requires both logical reasoning and innovative thinking to solve. It pushes me to think beyond the obvious and develop perseverance, as sometimes the path to the solution is not straightforward.
I love math for its logic, its practical applications, and the mental discipline it fosters. It challenges and excites me, and I look forward to continuing to learn more about it as I pursue my education and career.
Kim Moon Bae Underrepresented Students Scholarship
My identity as a Black woman has profoundly shaped my experiences, challenges, and aspirations throughout my journey in higher education. Being a member of an underrepresented minority population has meant navigating a path that is often layered with unique obstacles, but also rich with resilience, perspective, and a powerful sense of purpose. These experiences have defined not only who I am but also how I envision my future and the impact I hope to make.
Growing up, I was deeply aware of the disparities faced by people who look like me. From educational opportunities to societal expectations, the odds were often stacked against my community, making it clear that success required both determination and support. As I transitioned into college, I found that many of these challenges still followed me whether in the form of feeling isolated in predominantly white academic spaces, encountering implicit biases, or managing the financial burdens that disproportionately affect BIPOC students.
Yet, rather than deter me, these realities have strengthened my commitment to break through barriers and help pave the way for others. I have learned to turn moments of adversity into fuel for growth, leaning on my community, mentors, and inner resilience to push forward. Being a Black woman in higher education has inspired me to embrace my role not only as a student but as a leader and advocate who can uplift those facing similar struggles.
Looking forward, my identity will continue to influence my path in meaningful ways. Professionally, I am pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education with the hope of becoming a teacher who provides equitable support to students from diverse backgrounds. I want to create inclusive classrooms that celebrate cultural differences and build confidence in young learners, especially those from underrepresented communities. I understand firsthand how crucial it is for children to see themselves reflected in their educators and to feel valued in their learning environments.
I am committed to serving as a mentor and advocate within my community. The challenges I have faced sensitize me to the needs of others who may feel marginalized or unsupported. By sharing my story and efforts, I aim to inspire younger generations to pursue their dreams despite systemic obstacles. My journey serves as a reminder that while our paths may be more difficult, they are not impossible and that with perseverance and solidarity, we can create lasting change.
My identity as a Black woman shapes both the challenges I face and the strengths I bring to my academic and personal life. It fuels my passion to excel, lead, and advocate within and beyond the classroom. This scholarship would provide vital support as I continue my academic journey and work toward empowering underrepresented students to realize their full potential. I am proud to carry my identity forward, using it as a beacon of hope and change.
Nabi Nicole Grant Memorial Scholarship
Faith has always been my anchor during life’s most challenging moments. One significant obstacle I faced where I relied profoundly on my faith was when I confronted serious financial difficulties that threatened my ability to continue my education. As a first-generation college student juggling family responsibilities and academic demands, I often felt overwhelmed and uncertain about my path forward. The emotional and mental weight of these struggles brought moments of doubt and fear, but my faith gave me the strength to persevere.
During this challenging time, I turned to prayer and reflection, seeking guidance and comfort. My faith became a sanctuary, reminding me that I was not alone in my journey. It helped me shift my focus from my fears to the hope that there was a purpose behind every trial. I found solace in knowing that God’s plan is greater than any hardship I might face, and that by trusting in that plan, I would find the resilience needed to overcome obstacles.
The values embodied by Nabi Nicole faith, service, and community are ones that deeply resonate with me. I believe that faith is not just a private experience but a guiding force that inspires us to uplift others. Nabi’s dedication to preaching, counseling, and mentoring youth is a powerful example of how faith can be lived through service to others. Inspired by her legacy, I strive every day to let my faith motivate not only my personal growth but also my commitment to supporting those around me.
Through faith, I have learned patience, humility, and the courage to ask for help when needed. I sought out campus resources, mentorship, and community programs that provided both emotional and practical assistance. This support, coupled with my unwavering faith, transformed daunting obstacles into manageable challenges. It taught me that faith is active it moves us beyond prayer into action, perseverance, and service.
In honoring Nabi Nicole’s memory through this scholarship, I am inspired to continue living a life grounded in faith and dedicated to helping others. My faith not only helps me overcome my own hurdles but motivates me to be a glimmer of hope in my community.
As I move forward in my educational and personal journey, I carry Nabi Nicole’s spirit with me—as a reminder that faith and ambition can coexist to create powerful change. I am committed to cultivating my own faith-driven path, not only by achieving academic success but also by becoming a source of support and inspiration to others facing similar challenges. This scholarship will help lighten my financial burden, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies and community involvement. Ultimately, I hope to honor Nabi’s legacy by living a life dedicated to faith, service, and the empowerment of those around me.
William A. Lewis Scholarship
Pursuing higher education as a first-generation college student from a low-income background has not been without its obstacles. One significant challenge I faced was balancing the demands of academics with financial pressures and family responsibilities. At times, the cost of tuition, books, and living expenses felt overwhelming, threatening my ability to continue my education and pursue my passion.
During these difficult moments, my greatest support came from a dedicated mentor my college advisor who helped me navigate these challenges by connecting me with scholarship opportunities, financial aid resources, and academic support services. Their encouragement and guidance gave me hope and the practical tools needed to persist. They reminded me that my goals were achievable despite the setbacks and that seeking help was a sign of strength, not weakness. My family’s unwavering belief in the importance of education kept me motivated even when challenges seemed insurmountable. Their sacrifices and the community around me inspired resilience and determination. They have been my constant source of encouragement, reminding me of why I started this journey and why I must keep pushing forward.
Beyond financial and practical challenges, I also encountered moments of self-doubt and uncertainty wondering if I truly belonged in the STEM field given the underrepresentation of Black and Hispanic students. However, seeing other BIPOC students persevere and achieve success in STEM inspired me to embrace my place and potential within this community. Knowing that I am breaking new ground not just for myself, but for others who will follow, strengthens my resolve.
This experience has deepened my appreciation for the power of mentorship and support networks in higher education, especially for underrepresented students in STEM. It has motivated me to one day give back by mentoring others facing similar challenges, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment within STEM fields.
Overcoming these obstacles has reinforced my commitment to succeed in my STEM studies and to become a role model for other underrepresented students. I want to honor the legacy of William A. Lewis by contributing to greater diversity and inclusion in STEM fields, showing that with support and perseverance, barriers can be broken and dreams can be realized.
As I continue my journey in STEM education, I am also learning the importance of resilience, adaptability, and collaboration qualities essential not only for academic success but for thriving in the ever-evolving STEM workforce. I am committed to leveraging these skills to excel in my field and to advocate for systemic changes that increase access and equity for marginalized communities in STEM. By sharing my story and actively participating in campus organizations dedicated to supporting BIPOC students, I aim to empower others to overcome their own challenges and pursue their passions with confidence. This scholarship would not only ease the financial burdens associated with higher education but would also enable me to fully focus on my academic and professional growth, ultimately allowing me to contribute meaningfully to the future of STEM.

As a first-generation college student, I carry the hopes and dreams of my family, who have sacrificed much so I could pursue higher education. Their faith in my potential motivates me to work diligently and pursue a career where I can make a meaningful difference. I have chosen to become an elementary school teacher because I understand the pivotal role educators play in shaping young lives, especially for students who come from backgrounds similar to mine.

Qwik Card Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am an undergraduate student passionate about building a strong foundation for my future, both personally and professionally. Growing up, I witnessed the financial struggles many families face, especially those like mine that are navigating the challenges of limited resources. As a first-generation college student and a member of a community that values resilience and perseverance, I understand the importance of financial literacy and building credit early to create opportunities and secure independence.
Building credit is important to me because it is more than just a number it is a key that opens doors to life’s essential milestones, such as buying a home, starting a business, or pursuing advanced education. Without a solid credit history, these goals can remain out of reach or come with higher costs due to expensive loans and interest rates. By starting early, I aim to establish responsible habits that will allow me to access financial tools without falling into debt or predatory lending practices.
One smart money move I made was creating and maintaining a budget during my first year of college. I tracked all my expenses carefully, prioritizing essentials like tuition, textbooks, and groceries while limiting unnecessary spending. This budgeting not only helped me avoid accumulating debt but also taught me the discipline needed to manage money effectively. A financial lesson I learned the hard way was not fully understanding the importance of monitoring my credit report. At one point, I found a small error that, if left uncorrected, could have impacted my creditworthiness. That experience taught me to be proactive and vigilant about my finances.
I am motivated by the desire to provide stability for myself and my family, and by a dream of becoming an educator who empowers others to succeed. Financial independence is a crucial part of that journey. Knowing that managing credit responsibly can save money and reduce stress motivates me to learn and apply financial principles daily.
Building credit early is especially important to me because it sets the stage for long-term financial health. Students often believe credit is only necessary after college or when making big purchases, but the reality is that habits formed now can determine financial freedom or struggle later. By cultivating credit responsibly, I can leverage opportunities such as securing low-interest loans for graduate school, renting an apartment with favorable terms, or qualifying for better insurance rates.
I plan to take control of my financial future by continuing to educate myself on personal finance, using financial tools responsibly, and planning for short- and long-term goals. This includes regularly checking my credit report, using credit cards wisely, and saving consistently. I also want to share what I learn with others in my community who may not have access to financial education, helping to break cycles of financial insecurity.
My journey towards financial literacy and credit building is driven by a commitment to secure a stable, prosperous life and to serve as a role model for others. The Qwik scholarship aligns perfectly with my goals, offering not only financial support but also encouragement and resources to level the financial playing field. I am grateful for the opportunity to apply and eager to take the next step in owning my financial future.
Healing Self and Community Scholarship
Mental health care remains inaccessible for many, especially within BIPOC communities where stigma and financial barriers persist. As a BIPOC student passionate about education and wellness, I believe one of the most effective ways to make mental health care more affordable and accessible is through community-based art therapy and peer-led support networks.
Art offers a universal language for expression and healing, allowing individuals to process emotions in a safe and creative environment without the often-prohibitive costs of traditional therapy. I envision creating programs in schools and community centers that combine art and mental health education, reducing stigma while providing practical coping tools. These initiatives would be free or low-cost, facilitated by trained peers and professionals, making mental wellness an accessible priority.
By integrating art as a therapeutic medium and encouraging open conversations about mental health, my contribution would help bridge gaps in care and empower individuals to seek support early. This approach promotes inclusion, reduces isolation, and fosters resilience especially for youth of color growing into adulthood.
With this scholarship, I aim to further my education and develop the skills needed to launch these impactful, community-driven wellness programs that make mental health care both affordable and approachable for all.
RonranGlee Special Needs Teacher Literary Scholarship
My name is Raja Bue, and I am passionately pursuing a career as a special education teacher because I believe every child deserves to be seen, valued, and empowered to reach their fullest potential. Working with students who have autism, Down syndrome, or other learning disabilities requires creativity, patience, and deep love qualities that I strive to embody as I embark on this noble profession.
I am passionate about becoming a special education teacher because I have witnessed the transformative power of tailored support and understanding in children’s lives. These students often face unique challenges that require educators to be flexible, compassionate, and endlessly patient. I want to be that compassionate guide who celebrates each child’s strengths, helps navigate their obstacles, and lights the path toward independence and confidence.
Reflecting on Professor Harold Bloom’s quote, “I have learned that the purpose of teaching is to bring the student to his or her sense of his or her own presence,” I interpret this as helping students become aware of their own identity, strengths, and inherent worth. Guiding special needs students to experience a sense of their own presence means nurturing their self-awareness, self-confidence, and a feeling that they matter in this world, just as they are.
My mission is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel safe to explore, learn, and express themselves. I will use individualized teaching strategies that honor each student’s unique learning style, helping them celebrate small victories and build toward greater independence. By patiently listening, adapting, and fostering trust, I aim to help my students discover their voice and recognize their value in the classroom and beyond.
Raja and the Garden of Possibility
Once upon a time, in a vibrant village filled with curious children, lived a young heroine named Raja. Raja dreamed of helping every child, especially those whose hearts and minds worked differently, blossom in their own special way. One day, she discovered a magical garden called the Garden of Possibility, where every plant grew at its own pace and in its own beautiful way.
The garden was mysterious and sometimes challenging; some plants needed extra care, others grew hidden beneath the soil for a while. Raja became the garden’s devoted gardener, learning how to nurture each unique plant with love, patience, and creativity. She used her knowledge to help every leaf and flower realize its presence in the garden, shining brightly and proudly.
Through her kindness and determination, Raja transformed the garden into a place where no plant felt overlooked or less worthy. The garden flourished, and so did its caretaker, who understood that guiding others to their own presence was the greatest magic of all.
This fairy tale reflects my journey as a future special education teacher—committed to nurturing the potential in every child, no matter the challenges, until they stand strong in their own light.
In conclusion, my passion for special education teaching stems from my desire to make a meaningful difference by honoring each student’s unique presence and journey. This scholarship would empower me to gain the education and training needed to fulfill this mission with compassion, creativity, and dedication.
College Connect Resilience Award
My name is Raja Bue, and I am an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. Living with asthma has profoundly shaped my understanding of resilience and my approach to both my academic and personal life.
To me, resilience means confronting challenges head-on, adapting to changing circumstances, and maintaining determination despite setbacks. It is about more than just enduring difficulties—it is about growing through them and continuing to strive toward one’s goals with strength and hope.
As a student managing asthma, I have learned to balance the demands of my health with the rigorous expectations of college. Asthma attacks and respiratory challenges can be unpredictable, sometimes making it difficult to attend classes, participate in physical activities like cheerleading and dance, or meet deadlines during flare-ups. However, I refuse to let my condition define my limits. Through careful management, proactive communication with my medical team and professors, and by maintaining a disciplined self-care routine, I continue to pursue my education with passion and dedication.
Living with asthma has also made me a stronger advocate not only for my own health but for others facing chronic conditions. I actively participate in peer support groups and community outreach, sharing my experiences and encouraging others to prioritize their health while pursuing their dreams. I want to help break the stigma surrounding chronic illness and show that it is possible to excel despite these challenges.
This scholarship would provide critical support to help alleviate the financial stresses associated with managing asthma and maintaining my education. It would allow me to invest more in my healthcare needs, school supplies, and extracurricular activities that enrich my college experience. Most importantly, it would give me the peace of mind to focus on achieving my long-term goal of becoming an educator who inspires children to overcome their own obstacles.
Resilience for me is about thriving in the face of asthma’s challenges and using that strength to fuel my ambitions and help others. I am honored to share my story and grateful for the opportunity to receive support that will bolster my success in college and beyond.
YOU GOT IT GIRL SCHOLARSHIP
I believe I am a “You Got It Girl” because of my resilience, dedication, and commitment to both my athletic and academic goals. Growing up in a low-income household, I faced financial and social barriers that could have prevented me from pursuing sports and higher education, but I refused to let those challenges define me. I consistently show up for myself and my teammates, embodying dependability, teamwork, and a positive mindset. This scholarship would help me by easing financial stress, allowing me to focus more on excelling as a student-athlete and continuing to inspire others through my journey.
I am a proud member of the Albany State University dance team and cheerleading squad. I have been involved in dancing since the age of 3 and cheering throughout high school and college, totaling over six years of experience. During this time, I have earned recognition for leadership and commitment, including team captain roles and awards for spirit and dedication. Performing and competing have taught me discipline and teamwork, and representing my university has been an honor that I carry with pride.
During my sophomore year, I faced a significant setback when I did not make the cheer team. This was a heartbreaking moment because being part of the team has always been one of my goals. Instead of letting this disappointment define me, I used it as motivation to improve my skills, work even harder, and stay committed. I spent the year training independently, seeking feedback, and building my confidence. When tryouts came again, I was better prepared and determined, and I made the team. This experience taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of believing in myself even when things don’t go as planned.
I admire Serena Williams deeply. Beyond her incredible success in tennis, Serena’s strength, perseverance, and advocacy for women’s equality inspire me. She has overcome countless obstacles and remains a powerful role model for young women worldwide. Her fearlessness in breaking barriers reminds me to stay true to myself and pursue my goals with confidence and determination.
This scholarship would relieve much of the financial pressure related to tuition, school supplies, and athletic gear that I currently struggle to afford. It would also help cover travel expenses for competitions and training camps, which are critical for my growth as a dancer and cheerleader. Most importantly, it would give me peace of mind to dedicate more time and focus to balancing my rigorous academic workload with athletic commitments.
I am deeply committed to being a positive influence both on and off the field. Beyond athletics, I volunteer regularly in my community, mentoring younger girls and encouraging them to get involved in sports and education. I see my journey as more than just personal success it’s about lifting others and breaking down barriers for female athletes like myself.
I currently compete as a member of the Albany State University dance team and cheerleading squad. I am a walk-on athlete balancing academics and athletics independently without an athletic scholarship. Being a student-athlete means discipline, perseverance, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities with passion and determination. It has shaped me into a more resilient and driven individual and strengthened my desire to empower others through sports and education.

They are the backbone of our educational system, molding the minds of their students and making a lasting impact on both their lives and the world. Passionate, devoted educators are essential for inspiring the next generation and preparing them for professional success. While this is a significant responsibility, I believe that through educating children, we can provide them with opportunities to find a fulfilling future, which is a goal very much worth pursuing. Overcoming the challenges involved in working with young people during such a transitional phase in their lives may be difficult, but I believe the reward of seeing children flourish far outweighs the effort and dedication required. From a young age, I have been actively involved in my younger siblings' learning and development. Additionally, I have completed several Early Childhood Education classes. I have experienced a sense of pride and accomplishment as I helped them grow into strong readers and independent thinkers. Having the patience to explain new words, sentences, and concepts clearly to younger audiences has motivated me to explore how children develop their minds. My natural ability to connect with children, along with my love of learning, makes me well-suited to pursue a degree in education. I am eager to expand my understanding of child development, care, and education. I believe every child deserves someone who believes in and supports them on their journey to becoming who they aspire to be. Working with children and helping them achieve their goals in life is a significant ambition of mine, and I enjoy interacting with them on their level to gain insight into their perspectives.

I have been fortunate to experience the best of both worlds through my parents, who have significantly influenced who I am and how I view the world. My mother has worked as a police officer for 18 years. She currently serves as the Recruiting Officer and Community Services Officer, responsible for the agency's recruitment and retention programs. She maintains contact with applicants throughout the application process and conducts background investigations on new candidates. My father is a fire captain and has been a firefighter for nearly 20 years. He has received advanced firefighting training and has served in various capacities within the fire department. He is a valuable asset to both the fire department and the community, making sacrifices to help others that often go unnoticed. His dedication and hard work inspire me, and he has always motivated and supported me in pursuing my goals.
In addition to her professional commitments, my mother has created a loving home for us, which includes my siblings, my father, and my grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. She has managed to juggle her workload while attending college courses to further her education. Despite her busy schedule, she has always been present for our school events and extracurricular activities, demonstrating grace, strength, and dignity. Both of my parents are extraordinary in their own rights, serving as community leaders and inspiring figures. Their dedication and sacrifices have motivated me to pursue my aspirations, and I am deeply grateful for their constant encouragement and support. My parents have been a significant source of inspiration for my journey to becoming a teacher. Their unwavering support and dedication to education instilled in me a deep appreciation for learning and its transformative power. I remember how they encouraged me to ask questions, explore new ideas, and never shy away from challenges. Their belief in the importance of education shaped my academic pursuits and taught me the values of empathy, patience, and perseverance. As I embark on my teaching career, I plan to draw on my experiences and the lessons I learned from my parents to inspire my students. I want to create a classroom environment where every student feels valued and empowered to express themselves. By sharing stories of my own challenges and successes, I hope to show my students that learning is a journey filled with ups and downs, and that it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. Like first responders, I believe teachers have the opportunity to shape the future and make a positive impact on society. While I understand the challenges of working with young people, I believe the rewards of seeing children flourish are worth the effort and dedication required. I possess a natural ability to connect with children and a love for learning, which I believe makes me well-suited for an educational degree. I am eager to deepen my understanding of child development, care, and education. Children need someone who believes in and supports them as they aspire to become their best selves. Working with children and helping them achieve their life goals is a significant ambition of mine. I enjoy interacting with children on their level and gaining insight into their perceptions of the world. I believe that teachers have the power to lay the foundations for a prosperous future, not just for individual children, but for society as a whole. Teachers are the backbone of our educational system, shaping the minds of their students and making a lasting impact on their lives and the world at large. Passionate and dedicated educators are essential for inspiring the next generation and preparing them for professional success. Ultimately, I want to inspire my students to believe in themselves, just as my parents believed in me. I hope to be a mentor and guide, encouraging them to chase their dreams and make a positive impact in the world, just as my parents did for me.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once stated, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.” Education is a powerful tool that can significantly improve one’s life and provide stability. It opens doors to various opportunities and greatly impacts employment prospects. The value of education is important to me because it shapes my future and equips me to overcome the obstacles and challenges of life. Throughout my college career, I have worked diligently to succeed in both my academic and athletic pursuits. My efforts have allowed me to volunteer in my community while being a member of the Albany State University Dance and Cheer team. Additionally, I assist as a student teacher, which has profoundly influenced my outlook on life and my career goals. This experience has instilled in me core values such as service above self, respect, and determination, helping me develop as a leader. If I were allowed to improve my community through education, I would focus on several key initiatives aimed at enhancing educational access, quality, and engagement. I would create after-school programs that offer tutoring, homework assistance, and enrichment activities in subjects such as science, arts, and technology. These programs can help bridge the achievement gap for students who may lack resources at home, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed academically. I would also organize workshops for parents and community members on topics like financial literacy, digital skills, and health education. Empowering adults with knowledge not only benefits their personal lives but also positively impacts their children’s educational experiences. Furthermore, I would establish mentorship initiatives that connect students with local professionals and community leaders. Mentorship can inspire students, provide career guidance, and help them develop essential life skills, fostering a culture of aspiration and achievement. Partnering with local nonprofits, businesses, and universities to create educational programs and resources can significantly enhance the quality of education. This collaboration would provide students with unique learning opportunities, internships, and real-world experiences. I would also work to ensure that all educational programs are inclusive and accessible to students from diverse backgrounds and abilities. This includes providing resources for students with special needs and promoting a culture of respect and understanding among all students. To encourage greater parental involvement in their children’s education, I would initiate programs such as family literacy nights and school events. When parents are engaged, students are more likely to succeed academically and feel supported. Moreover, I would advocate for adult education programs that offer skills training, language classes, and personal development opportunities. Lifelong learning is essential for personal growth and can help community members adapt to a changing job market. Education empowers individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions, pursue their goals, and contribute positively to society. Investing in education today creates a foundation for future generations, ensuring they have the skills and opportunities necessary to thrive. Overall, enhancing education within the community is a powerful way to create lasting positive change, benefiting both individuals and the community as

Cariloop’s Caregiver Scholarship
Caring for my grandmother, who has Alzheimer's Disease, has been both challenging and rewarding. Each day presents its own set of obstacles, as her condition affects her memory, cognitive functions, and sometimes her mood. My caregiving routine involves several key activities to support her. Establishing a consistent daily schedule helps reduce confusion. I assist her with personal hygiene, dressing, and meal preparation, ensuring that she feels comfortable and secure. I’ve learned to communicate effectively by using simple language and maintaining eye contact. I often reminisce about familiar topics, showing patience and understanding when she struggles to find the right words. To keep her mentally stimulated, I engage her in activities she enjoys, such as listening to music, looking through photo albums, or taking her on trips to McDonald's. These activities also help strengthen our bond. Providing emotional support is crucial; I listen to her feelings and her experiences, helping her feel understood and cared for, even when she may not remember specific details. This caregiving experience has profoundly influenced my life and personal development. It has instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and compassion, as I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by individuals with cognitive decline. The unpredictability of Alzheimer’s has taught me to be adaptable and resilient. I’ve learned to approach each day with patience and an open mind, ready to face new challenges. My grandmother was an educator for over 30 years, and I aspire to follow in her footsteps by working with children in the future. I believe that a career in teaching would fulfill my long-held goals and aspirations. With my enthusiasm, positive attitude, and strong interest in education, I am confident that I can build a solid foundation for my career while making a difference in the lives of young people. I can think of no better or more fulfilling path to pursue. While I know that overcoming the challenges of working with children during such a transitional and dynamic period in their lives will be difficult, I firmly believe that the reward of witnessing their growth and development is worth the effort and dedication it requires. This commitment exemplifies the principle of service above self.
Caring for my grandmother has given me a new perspective on life and aging. I’ve come to appreciate the importance of family, the value of memories, and the need for compassion in our interactions with others. Receiving this scholarship would significantly impact my educational journey and future aspirations. It would alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with my studies, allowing me to focus more on my coursework and less on financial stress.

I believe that I have impacted the world through community service. I have been given opportunities to become a responsible citizen by helping others while learning selflessness and fostering growth. My community service has helped me develop a broader perspective of the world, build networking skills, and most importantly shaped my personality and the person I am.
Community service has been essential for me, being a responsible member of society, and has helped create a sense of belonging and connection with others. Community service has also allowed me to make a positive difference in the world and has helped foster a sense of belonging and purpose. I have learned the value of diversity, strong communication, mutual respect, shared planning, and working towards common goals. I have learned leadership, problem-solving, collaboration, and time management.
My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a Bachelor of Science degree in Education that would assist me in pursuing a career as a Teacher. I believe teachers are allowed to set the foundations of a prosperous future, not only for individual children but for our society as a whole. Teachers are the backbone of our educational system, molding the minds of the children they teach and making a long-lasting impact on their students and the world. Passionate and devoted educators are the key to inspiring the next generation of students and preparing them for professional success.
I have had the opportunity to see first-hand how much my work can have an impact on the world. I have been able to interact with people who have vastly different backgrounds and have learned empathy as I develop a global perspective. One of the greatest benefits of community service is learning to be more selfless and considerate of others. Community service has also been a great way to broaden my skills as it has offered an opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new while learning more about my community and the world.
Empathy and compassion are two of the most important qualities to emerge from my community service. Community service has been crucial, as activities have defined values, developed social skills, and I have learned about my community. Service to the public is such an integral part of any society. It brings people together people from all walks of life, engaging them for a common cause, teaching people about compassion and not just living for one’s self and serving only their needs.
There is no better feeling than knowing that I am helping others in need and working towards making my local area and community a better place for everyone. I hope to leave behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, strength, and courage.

I believe that I have impacted the world through community service. I have been given opportunities to become a responsible citizen by helping others while learning selflessness and fostering growth. My community service has helped me develop a broader perspective of the world, develop networking skills, and most importantly shaped my personality and the person I am as an individual.
I organize and collect hygiene items and donations for homeless shelters, distribute food for drive-thru food pantries, and volunteer at local food banks. I also assist in neighborhood improvement projects, clean-up drives, and community events throughout my hometown Brunswick, Georgia.
Community service has been essential for me, being a responsible member of society and has helped create a sense of belonging and connection with others. Community service has also allowed me to make a positive difference in the world and has helped foster a sense of belonging and purpose. I have learned the value of diversity, strong communication, mutual respect, shared planning, and working towards common goals. I have learned leadership, problem-solving, collaboration with others, and time management.
Through community service, I have also had the opportunity to see first-hand how much my work can have an impact on the world.
In the future, I aim to work with children. I believe children should have someone who believes and supports them to become the person that they aspire to be. Working with children and assisting them in achieving their goals in life is a huge ambition of mine. I believe that with my enthusiasm, positive attitude and strong interest, Education will give me a firm foundation on which I can build my career, working with children. My Mother has been a police officer for 15 years. Throughout those years she has served in many capacities. Now as the Recruiting Officer and Community Services Officer, she is responsible for the agency’s recruitment and retention programs. She maintains contact with applicants throughout the application process, she also conducts background investigations on all new applicants before being employed with the department.
My mother has somehow found a balance to also provide a loving home for my siblings and me, my father, and my grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer’s. She has prepared home-cooked meals, eaten dinner with us, helped with homework, and has been there to hug and tuck us in at bedtime. She has found the time to travel with me to dance and cheer competitions and cheer my younger brothers on while they played basketball and football, even when she was called out on calls in the middle of the night. She has patrolled the streets to keep the public safe and somehow juggled an entire workload while attending college courses to further her education. She has shown up for all school events and extracurricular activities, even when she had to work, taking one hat off to put on another.
Throughout her career, she has shown grace, strength, and dignity. Many young girls and young women look up to her because of her hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. My mother and her works are also extraordinary and she is a true definition of a superwoman and community leader.
She has always led by example and has motivated and supported me in my aspirations and goals. I am eternally appreciative of her constant words of encouragement, pushing me to be the best version of myself. My mother and her works are extraordinary and she is a true definition of a hero and community leader. Her dedication is unmatched in my eyes. The pursuit of education, hard work, and dedication have inspired me.
In the future, I aim to work with children. My aspirations consist of acquiring a Bachelor of Science degree in Education that would assist me in pursuing a career as a Teacher. Like first responders, I believe teachers are allowed to set the foundations of a prosperous future, not only for individual children but for our society as a whole. I chose Albany State University because I wanted an environment that was going to prepare me to be great, not only in my profession but personally as well. My professors and administrators are concerned not just with my grades, but also with the importance of maintaining a great emotional, and psychological connection with my culture. They also make sure that I am having well-rounded experiences. I instantly saw HBCU pride the moment I stepped on the campus. Historically Black Colleges and Universities our HBCUs have always given many of us permission. Permission to love ourselves out loud without reservation apology or fear.
The sense of community and culture that surround me makes it exciting to attend college, making me see the next four years of my life as more than a mere stepping stone into my future but a chance for me to grow and develop. This experience has opened my eyes to different types of people and expanded my interests beyond what I was used to. Yes, my university is a historically black college/university but it's so full of diversity. People of different ethnicities, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Attending the unsinkable Albany State University has given me a sense of pride not only within myself but my people as well.

Early Childhood Developmental Trauma Legacy Scholarship
Unfortunately, many traumatic events and situations will occur throughout our lifetimes. While these can certainly have an impact on us – both emotionally and physically research shows they can have even more long-term, devastating consequences for children later down the road.
Without intervention and help, traumatized children grow up to be traumatized adults, often having abnormal reactions to stress, chronic physical ailments, relationship problems, learning difficulties, and tendencies to engage in risky behaviors. Children may also show deficits in language development and abstract reasoning skills. Many children who have experienced complex trauma have learning difficulties that may require support in the academic environment.

Your Health Journey Scholarship
Embracing and experiencing independence is one thing I am looking forward to in college. I am excited about the networking opportunities attending college will have, and the experiences that will prepare me for the challenges in everyday life. Human beings we are mind, body, and soul. If we develop our minds but don’t take care of our bodies and souls, we are making it harder to experience the whole joy of being human. As students, we are busy and sometimes we need reminders of how to stay healthy and manage stress.
A healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition. A healthy diet can also reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and other conditions linked to obesity. As a cheerleader eating healthy is essential. Eating the right foods can increase energy, focus, and concentration. Cheerleading, whether during practice or competition, requires stamina, and the foods I eat help to maintain my energy. I have to have enough energy to perform the demanding physical activities required, such as stunts, tumbling, and dancing.
My diet is high in carbohydrates and lean protein, such as chicken, fish, and legumes. I also include foods in my diet that can help reduce inflammation and enhance recovery from exercise. Inflammation throughout the body and brain can contribute to mood disorders, including anxiety and depression. It’s not just our physical health that can see a boost when we prioritize a healthy diet. Research shows that food choices also affect mental health.
Studies have found that eating breakfast may improve short-term memory and attention. Students who eat breakfast tern to perform better than those who don’t. We need food that feeds not only our growing bodies and muscles but foods that help with brain power.
I have learned the importance of when to take a break or rest, as sleep, hydration, and self-care are also very important, as eating habits can affect sleep and mental health. Consuming fewer processed foods can lead to better brain and emotional health. Drinking plenty of water, even mild dehydration can affect your mood. I have noticed a healthy, well-balanced diet helps me think clearly and feel more alert. It also improves my concentration and attention span.
My Coach assists us with our diets to boost mental health and encourages us with healthy and fun recipes. We focus on eating plenty of fruits and vegetables along with foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon. Dark green leafy vegetables in particular are brain protective. Nuts, seeds, and legumes, such as beans and lentils, are also excellent brain foods. Our brain and nervous system depend on nutrition to build new proteins, cells, and tissues.
I try my best to steer clear of too many processed snack foods, such as potato chips, or sugar-filled snacks, such as candy and soft drinks that can lead to ups and downs in energy levels. I also try my best to have a healthy snack whenever hunger strikes, such as fruits or nuts.

Coaches constantly stayed on us about our character, grades, and commitments in life, making a positive effect on our lives so that we can enter life more prepared, providing us endless opportunities, and making us feel like we are a part of something great. Now that I am months away from graduating, I am proud of my school and I never hesitate to express it. We have had amazing seasons and accomplishments. School spirit is an emotional feeling toward the school and heavy pride in being a part of the school. STEAM is an educational discipline that aims to spark an interest and lifelong love of the arts and sciences in children from an early age. Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math are similar fields of study in that they all involve creative processes and none uses just one method for inquiry and investigation. Teaching relevant, in-demand skills that will prepare students to become innovators in an ever-evolving world is paramount, not only for the future of the students themselves but for the future of the country.
STEAM empowers teachers to employ project-based learning that crosses each of the five disciplines and fosters an inclusive learning environment in which all students can engage and contribute. As opposed to traditional models of teaching, educators using the STEAM framework bring the disciplines together, leveraging the synergy between the modeling process and math and science content, for example, to blur the boundaries between modeling techniques and scientific/mathematical thinking. Through this holistic approach, students can exercise both sides of their brains at once.

My hard work has paid off and allowed me to volunteer in service throughout my community while being a member of the Varsity Cheer.
My pride is not just in the school that I represent but it is also geared towards myself and what I bring to the table, in my works and the actions I take pride in who I am.
I also assist as a Student Teacher and it has had an overreaching effect on my outlook on my life and career goals. Being a Student Teacher has instilled in me the fundamental values of service above self, respect, and determination, as well as assist in aiding with my development as a leader. My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a Bachelor of Science degree in Education that would assist me in pursuing a career as a Teacher.
I believe teachers are allowed to set the foundations of a prosperous future, not only for individual children but for our society as a whole. Although this is a huge responsibility, I also believe that through the education of children, we can deliver children the opportunity to find a future that they enjoy, and this is a responsibility that is very much worth working towards. Overcoming the hardships involved in working with young people in such a transitional and dynamic time of their lives will be a challenge, but I believe the reward of seeing children flourish is more than worth the effort and dedication required.
My natural ability to connect with children and my love of learning are the qualities I have, that I believe make me ideal to embark on an Educational degree. I am keen to further my understanding and knowledge of child development, care, and education. Children should have somebody that believes in and supports them to become the person that they aspire to be. Working with children and assisting them in achieving their goals in life is a huge ambition of mine. I enjoy interacting with children on their level, gaining insight into their perception of the world. I feel the rewards of a professional career in teaching would satisfy the goals I have hoped to achieve for quite a while. I believe that my enthusiasm, positive attitude and strong interest in Education will give me a firm foundation on which I can build my career, working with children.

When someone chooses to become a law enforcement officer they are committing to a lifestyle as much as they are a career. Officers and their partners and spouses are conscious of the sacrifices that come with walking the thin blue line, and they enter into it knowingly. However, the same cannot be said for the children of officers, who are often born into a law enforcement family and grow up with a unique set of experiences.
These children learn crucial life lessons at a young age. They watch as their parent suits up before a shift, and they learn the importance of selflessness and service to others, especially in troubled times. They learn earlier than most that there are dangerous and evil elements in the world and come to understand that it is their parent’s job to engage the danger and respond to the evil.
It means the world to me to have a mother involved in securing my community as a Police Officer. It is an absolute honor to be in the small town of Brunswick, Georgia knowing how much my mother is pouring into and giving back to the community.
My Mother, Marsha Myers-Bue has been a Police Officer for 15 years. Throughout those years she has served in many capacities. Now as the Recruiting Officer and Community Services Officer, she is responsible for the agency’s recruitment and retention programs. She maintains contact with applicants throughout the application process, she also conducts background investigations on all new applicants before being employed with the department. She exchanges information with other agencies regarding crime prevention programs, and recruitment and retention issues. She also organizes and conducts oral presentations at meetings with community groups, neighborhood watch groups, youth groups, and other organizations. She conducts recreational and educational activities such as sports, games, dances, violence prevention, drug prevention, and other special events for program participants.
In addition, she participates in program planning sessions with school districts, social service agencies, weed and seed, teen centers, and recreation staff to develop activity and lesson plans to provide a variety of activities for program participants. Moreover, she identifies community issues and problems and determines and evaluates alternative courses of action to resolve such issues and problems. As you can imagine my mother is a great asset to the community. Her works are vital to the success of the Police Department and partnerships.
Aside from work, my mother has somehow found a balance to also provide a loving home for my siblings and me, my father, and my grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer’s. She has prepared home-cooked meals, eating dinner with us, helped with homework, and has been there to hug and tuck us in at bedtime.
My mother and her works are extraordinary and she is a true definition of a superwoman, a hero, and a community leader.

My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease sometime in 2020. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that affects memory, thinking, and behavior. Symptoms eventually grow severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. Traumas including the death of a spouse, sibling or child have also been known to cause the acute onset of Alzheimer's and other dementias. My grandmother's son, my uncle committed suicide in 2016. I believe this was a traumatic and excruciating event for my grandmother to endure.
My grandmother has always been my role model and is such an inspiration to me. She was an educator for 30 years and has always placed others before herself. Both my mother and father are first responders. My mother is a Police Officer and my father is a Fire Captain. When my mother had to attend Police Academy in 2008 my grandmother retired from being a school teacher to help lighten the load on my parents. My grandmother has always placed others before herself in everything that she does and is one of the biggest influences on why I wish to become an Educator. I believe teachers are allowed to set the foundations of a prosperous future, not only for individual children but for our society as a whole. Although this is a huge responsibility, I also believe that through the education of children, we can deliver children the opportunity to find a future that they enjoy.
My grandmother has inspired me to be the best person I can be, to not only strive for my goals but to accomplish them. She makes me proud of who I am and where I come from. She has never let me down and I will never let her down. She loves me for many reasons, and I love her more than anything in this world. She gives me the courage to be the person that I am today. I can remember my grandmother attending every dance recital, cheer and dance performance, and school event along with my parents and other family members. Her picking me up from school or taking care of me while my parents had to work. I am indebted to her for so many things. She always has a smile on her face and always makes me laugh when we turn the music on for her to dance. We have found that music is indeed therapeutic. She may forget many things, however, she remembers songs from her era word for word.
It is important to spend meaningful time with a family member or friend who has Alzheimer's or related dementia. Participating together in activities can help improve their quality of life and manage behavior changes that may come with the disease. I enjoy and soak up every minute that I can share and spend with her. She always has a story to tell me. One of my favorite things to do is take her for rides in my car. Although she critiques me for being a new driver, her conversation is endless. I learn different parts and pieces of her life with each drive, and how the importance of routine and familiarity is profound. This summer I will embark and attend my first semester away at college. I am nervous not only because this is my first time away from family, but because I will not be able to take my daily rides or have my nightly talks with my grandmother. However, I am so excited to make her and my family proud.

In the future, I aim to work with children. I feel the rewards of a professional career in teaching would satisfy the goals I have hoped to achieve for quite a while. I believe that with my enthusiasm, positive attitude and strong interest, Education will give me a firm foundation on which I can build my career, working with children. I can think of no better or more satisfying path to pursue. Overcoming the hardships involved in working with young people in such a transitional and dynamic time of their lives will be a challenge, but I believe the reward of seeing children flourish is more than worth the effort and dedication required, demonstrating service above self.
