Healing in Motion: My Path to Physical Therapy
When my mother had a stroke, everything changed. She went from being the strongest woman I knew to struggling with basic movement. Her foot dragged in a circumduction swing, and walking even a few steps was exhausting. I helped her through her Home Exercise Program—stretching, strengthening, relearning. Some days were filled with progress; others were clouded by pain and frustration. But through it all, I saw her fight. And I saw how physical therapy gave her the tools to reclaim her independence. That experience didn’t just affect me—it shaped me.
I also watched my grandmother recover from a broken elbow. She was proud and self-sufficient, but the injury left her dependent on others for daily tasks. I remember sitting beside her as she practiced simple movements, cheering her on as she regained strength. Watching her transform through therapy reminded me that healing isn’t just physical—it’s emotional. It’s about restoring dignity and confidence.
These personal experiences planted the seed for my career in physical therapy. But it was my love of football that helped it grow. I’ve always been drawn to the game—not just for the strategy and excitement, but for the resilience of the athletes. Seeing a player go down on the field, then return weeks later stronger than ever, inspired me. I wanted to be part of that comeback story. Whether it’s a pro athlete or a stroke survivor, I’m driven by the idea of helping people get back to what they love.
I’ve spent over 15 years in the restaurant industry, where I learned discipline, creativity, and how to thrive under pressure. Now, I’m applying those same skills to healthcare. I’m currently in my first semester of the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Chattahoochee Tech, and every class reinforces my belief that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. I work 25-30 hours a week to pay for school out-of-pocket, balancing full-time employment with rigorous coursework while maintaining a 3.3 GPA.
My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been intentional. I’ve created detailed study schedules, adapted my work shifts to optimize energy, and stayed focused on long-term goals. I’m not just preparing for a career—I’m building a life of purpose, rooted in service and resilience.
This scholarship would ease the financial strain of tuition and allow me to continue pursuing my dream without compromising my health or academic performance. More importantly, it would affirm the belief that hard work, heart, and healing matter. I’m ready to bring those values into every clinic, every patient interaction, and every moment of care.
