Bio

Simply put, my life goal is to help others. How I get to that point or with which career is uncertain, but I will achieve that goal in some form. Specifically, though, I would love to work with children in some capacity. Yet, at the same time trying to reach those dreams and be content with my work all while still trying to make a decent pay is often difficult, so I am ever searching for the right path.

    Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
Kalia D. Davis’s story resonates deeply with me, not only because of her work ethic and ambition but also because of the values she embodied—perseverance, kindness, and a commitment to excellence. Like Kalia, I have dedicated myself to academics, athletics, work, and service to my community, pushing through challenges to achieve my goals. Her legacy inspires me, and I am honored to apply for this scholarship in her memory. As a freshman, I also ran cross country and track, and I understand the discipline, determination, and resilience that come with being a student-athlete. Beyond sports, I have worked every weekday for the past three years (since I was a sophomore), balancing my job with academics and extracurricular activities. Maintaining a 3.86 GPA while taking eight AP and Dual Credit courses has not been easy, especially as someone with ADHD, but it has taught me the power of self-advocacy and perseverance. I have learned to manage my time effectively, seek out resources when needed, and push past obstacles to succeed. Beyond academics and work, I am deeply involved in my school and community. As Vice President of Publicity and Communication for Student Council, I manage our school’s Student Council social media, ensuring that students stay engaged and informed. I also serve as a mentor to freshmen in my school’s mentorship program, helping younger students navigate the challenges of high school. Additionally, I am a member of the National Honor Society, where I uphold the values of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. My commitment to service extends beyond my school—I have volunteered over 12 hours for local organizations, not including the volunteer work I did as a student leader in my former youth group. My time in youth leadership shaped my dedication to giving back, and although the program ended due to a church denomination change, the lessons I learned continue to drive my passion for service. Kalia’s love for the beach is something else we share. Watching the waves crash against the shore has always been a place of reflection for me—a reminder of life’s beauty and unpredictability. Like the tide, challenges come and go, but perseverance allows us to rise above them. I believe this scholarship would help me continue my journey of hard work and determination, just as Kalia did. Whether in the classroom, at work, or in my community, I strive to embody the same dedication and excellence that made Kalia such an inspiring person. Receiving this scholarship would not only help ease the financial burden of college but also serve as a powerful reminder of the values I hold dear—work ethic, ambition, kindness, and service. It would allow me to further my education while continuing to give back to my community, ensuring that Kalia’s legacy of excellence and perseverance lives on.
