Timing and preparation are significant components of my educational and professional journey. For the past two (2) years, I have worked as a patient care assistant between multiple specialties and observation in the operation room within TriHealth. Within the roles mentioned above, I have researched and gained knowledge of the nuances and processes within healthcare and managed care organizations. Through all my experiences, I have learned that the American healthcare system is not easily navigated. Whether it is from the perspective of the physician, the nurse, the patient, the critical care practitioner or the utilization review analyst, there are so many barriers to making our system streamlined. In addition to gaining a unique perspective, my work experiences have cultivated excellent organizational and analytical skills, which have prepared me for the next step in my professional and educational evolution. After having this experience of working many different specialties and observing in the operating room, I had a difficult time determining what my next professional step would be. I knew that my interests lie in the health care sector. However, I do not know in what capacity. As an African American woman, I am especially concerned with the advocacy of people of color, those under economic duress, and those suffering from mental health issues, all of which I have seen throughout my career. Given the opportunity to receive this scholarship, I would focus my research in the aforementioned areas of interest. With my studies, my goal is to affect change through medical reform and implement programs to enhance access to healthcare in impoverished communities. Earning my high school diploma would be one of the proudest and most challenging moments of my life, illustrating my sheer will and resolve. My occupational and educational experiences have acted as a springboard to my goal of obtaining a college degree. This degree will prepare and enable me to be efficacious in managing the integration of ever-changing healthcare regulations, clinical innovations, and the reform of work processes. I believe that this scholarship will be the best facilitator in ushering in the next phase of my progression. I know that the program curriculum is especially designed to prepare students to become the leaders in the rapidly changing healthcare landscape. The variety of courses and options will allow me to grow in my knowledge of healthcare and administration while simultaneously allowing me to follow my passion. If I were fortunate enough to be granted acceptance for this scholarship , I plan to devote my all to analyzing all the facets of healthcare and be ready to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and create evolving platforms for future healthcare. As a student and medical intern, I utilized this time to study, thereby optimizing my academic performance. Overcoming obstacles that I conquered through sheer fortitude. Between balancing studying and my responsibilities as I currently maintain a 3.7 GPA. My resilience and will to succeed have grown drastically over time, so I know I will flourish in this undergraduate program.
