    Opportunity for Black Women Scholarship
I am a first generation college student and oldest of five siblings. On top of that, I am biracial with the mixture of african-american and caucasian. I have grown up to see my parents go through different social hardships solely based on the color of their skin and the opportunities made present to them. I strive to be the change I want to see in the world. I refuse to give any individual amo to put me down, I always work to put my best foot forward. I am currently a collegiate student-athlete. I am a sophomore at West Virginia State University where I am on the volleyball team, a Residence Assistant on campus, member of the NAACP, and member of the Student Government Association. Additionally to my roles on my campus, I am a Criminal Justice major with a minor in Psychology. I am currently working towards graduating with my Bachelor's Degree a year early so that I may also work towards my Master's Degree within my time at West Virginia State. After I graduate from West Virginia State University with the Bachelor's and Master's degrees I will be going to law school. I am actively deciding between criminal or corporate law. I take pride in my education on the basic principle that it is mine, and no one can take away the knowledge that I attain. I believe knowledge is power, especially in a world run by men. Women need to load themselves with as much amo as possible to be twice as good as a man. I want to use my education and degrees to set up a non-profit organization to support women in attaining a powerful education. My goal is to help as many women attain an Associate's degree minimum. This is my non-profit goal because it brings women over a large hill of not having a college degree. Additionally, it guarantees the goal of attaining a high school diploma being manifested. There are so many classes that can be taken online, self-paced, and for free or minimum costs. However, these programs are not publicized or utilized to the extent they could be. Utilizing these phenomenal programs will allow for women around the country to be supported and educated. My goal is to also have an organization based in every state, this allows for more women to be reached and less falling through the cracks. It is imperative the women, especially black women, know their rights. It is also extremely important to me that women of color know and understand the laws that are in place to benefit and support them. Too many times women are just told what they can and cannot do. Educating women first hand on their rights and the laws that are there to protect them; allows for the community of women to grow and flourish. It is time for women to take the lead. It is time for women to be the face of change. All of this starts with the power of education. The revolution starts now.

I am a first generation biracial college student. I grew up helplessly trying to find my identity and worth as individuals always told me that I would never grow up to be anything. I have grown up seeing my perfectly dark-complexioned father drown in the disapproval, disgust, and racist insults from my mother's causation family. I have grown up watching my family be divided on the sole basis that we have different shades of skin tone. Unfortunately, social issues have become so severe that individuals do not even realize how corrupt and toxic it truly is on a society as a whole. I want to make a difference in the world outside of myself. This desire pushes me to work towards bridging the divide between races. I believe the biggest social issue in America is between racial differences. Woefully, too many deaths occur because of racial differences, too many individuals suffer from poverty because of the systemic racism that has corrupted this country since its creation, and too many voices go unheard in the fight for basic human rights. During the pandemic, whilst the country battled within itself for racial justice I was baffled at how many ignorant individuals simply did not understand the purpose of Black Lives Matter. It then occurred to me, how can we truly fix social injustice without educating individuals on the truth? For generations the education system has taught a minimal altered version of history. They taught the history that only worships the colonizers, white supremacist, and racist innovators. The start to change socially, starts mentally. The ability to change the mindset of others through proper education has become a small passion of mine. I use my social media platform to educate individuals on the truth of racism and corruption of systemic racism. Nowadays, social media is the most efficient way of reaching out to the masses. I spend time reading current social and racial issues, I then research the facts of history and before I post the truth. Oftentimes, individuals type and post on social media without knowing the severity of the issue at hand. They hide behind a screen to promote their secret racist desires. I do not hide behind a screen. I am firm in every piece of information I post and in every debate I get into. I find many individuals are just uneducated and privileged. Many individuals are ashamed that they fell prey to the privilege and ignorant bubbles they lived their lives in. Another issue I have noticed during my journey of bridging the divide between racial difference, no one race carries sole guilt. I have found the biggest issue is found in communication; individuals are fast to attack others for being racist, ignorant, and wrong rather than being genuine in educating them. This sense of inability to properly communicate is the cause of escalated situations that should have been de-escalated. This is why I strive to use my platform to listen, educate, and address all situations I come in contact with regarding racial social issues. I hope to expand my journey of bridging the divide between racial differences after I complete my undergraduate degree. Once I graduate from law school I want to use my education to create an organization solely dedicated to changing the education criteria taught in all schools. I passionately believe change starts with education and mentality. It is imperative that schools revise their curriculum from scratch to truly educate the following generations the truth of history. The phrase; if history is not taught it will repeat itself, has exposed American culture. The history taught has been white-washed, misinterpreted, and falsified leading to the repetition of negative racial history. The truth has been neglected but repeated through horrific situations throughout generations. The time for change is now.
