I vividly remember the day I decided I wanted to become a nurse; I was 8 years old and had been out in the summer sun all day with my father. When we returned home, I noticed that his face was drooping lower on one side. I did not think too much of it at the time, however, things quickly changed when I noticed that he was starting to slur his words together. My mother was away at work and my father kept insisting that he was fine, just exhausted from the heat. Although I did not know what, I knew something was terribly wrong, and against my father’s advice I proceeded to call 911. By the time the paramedics arrived, my father lost almost all control of his right side. The paramedics praised me and assured me that I had not only done the right thing, but I had also saved my father’s life. It was in this moment of gratitude that I realized I wanted to devote my life to saving others. I have since gained over 11 years of firsthand experience working in the medical field. I work one-on-one with a local Endocrinologist. I have worked with him for just over 9 years. I have learned so much through him and while working for him, I started working towards furthering my nursing career. Today, I am wife, a mother, and just steps away from becoming the nurse I have always longed to be. There is nothing I enjoy more than being able to help another human being, no matter how difficult of a task this might be. Nursing is more than a profession, it is a way of life, and it will forever define who I am.
