Bio

I graduated from the Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School in June 2022. I am an undergraduate first year at Adelphi University. Since I started, I have learned a lot about myself, experienced some growth, and had some accomplishments. I am curious to see what technology advancements my future may bring. I learned the value of cooperation, collaboration, leadership, and communication while I was a high school student because these skills enable you to change both what you can do and why you can. But now that I am at college, I have reminded myself repeatedly that although this is a completely new world for me, if I want to succeed, I must push myself to the limit and ensure that I cross the finish line not carrying the same baggage I did when I started, but rather something greater.

My name is Priscilla Nyarko Wiafe, and I am a native of Ghana. Having been born and raised on the western coast of Africa, I moved to the United States almost nine years ago. I am pursuing a nursing degree at Adelphi University to become a nurse practitioner. The journey to my career choice in nursing began when my grandmother, whom I consider my mother, fell ill. This experience made me realize the importance of healthcare and my desire to support and care for others in need. Witnessing the struggle and feeling helpless as a child drove me to find ways to make a difference. Nursing is not just about supplying medical help; it is also about being there for patients and showing empathy for their struggles. To prepare myself for this career, I have engaged in various activities. I have volunteered in hospitals and other healthcare settings, allowing me to gain hands-on experience and see the compassionate care provided by nurses. These experiences have reinforced my passion for nursing and provided me with a deeper understanding of the challenges and rewards involved in this profession. In addition to my volunteer work, I am pursuing a nursing degree at Adelphi University. This program has given me the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to excel in nursing. I am also committed to continuous learning and plan to obtain more credentials that will enable me to provide even better patient care in the future. As for my specialization within nursing, I am particularly interested in becoming a nurse practitioner. The opportunity to have a more advanced role in patient care and to provide comprehensive healthcare services aligns with my desire to make a significant impact. While I have not yet decided on a specific area of specialization, I am open to exploring various fields and discovering where my skills and passions intersect to serve the needs of patients effectively. Overall, my firsthand experiences, particularly seeing my grandmother's illness, have led me to pursue a career in nursing. Through volunteer work, my nursing education, and my dedication to continuous learning, I have been preparing myself for this major step in my journey. I am excited about the prospect of becoming a nurse practitioner and providing compassionate care to those in need. I believe that I may not know what the future holds, but as a first-year student at Adelphi, I am trying to enjoy the process and make sure to know my materials along with putting them into practice.

My name is Priscilla Nyarko Wiafe. I'm a native of Ghana, which is found on the western coast of Africa, and I was born and raised there. I aim to become a nurse practitioner, so I'm now pursuing a nursing degree at Adelphi University. The fact that I am the only child on my father's side of the family has allowed me to grow and learn a lot about myself, even though I am the only child. I do believe that being the only child has advantages for some people, but for me, being the only child has allowed me to know how to care for myself with my cousins even though I am the only child. I have been in America for almost nine years now, and while there have been challenges and hardships along the way, I continue to push through each day in the hopes that things will turn out better in the future. My grandmother—whom I refer to as my mother—felt sick one Saturday morning, and for the first time since I was a young child, I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do with my life. I remember feeling helpless as a child because I felt like I should have been able to help, but I was powerless to do so. I didn't understand how important it was for me to work in the medical industry to support and help my family until that day. There is a time when this issue needs to be discussed so that we can be aware of what is occurring, what will occur in the future, or even what could occur in a split second because anything can happen. When it comes to health issues, it's not always something that is discussed, but there comes a time when it needs to be. Since I have experienced what it is like to lose someone you truly care about, and then it gets to a point where you feel like something needs to be done, and this comes with a lot of understanding issues, my passion for pursuing a career in nursing has now become something I have come to see as a calling. As a result, I am always willing to be in the hospital or volunteer somewhere I can give back in support of those in need. I think that the added credentials I can obtain will aid me in my efforts to supply better patient care in the future because, when it comes to nursing, it's not always about helping but rather being there for your patients and having empathy for whatever struggles they may be experiencing at the time.

    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Since I was a little child, mathematics has been like singing for me because I come from a family of mathematical geniuses, but for me it wasn't as simple as it was for others because I had been imposed on what I needed to know and do. Even though I learned arithmetic a very long time ago, I have believed that it is appropriate to allow myself to understand the methods that go along with it and the understanding of what is needed to complete it. You should be aware that there will be difficulties with math at every level, but in the end, what matters is figuring out your outcomes and knowing what is required of you. I am aware, however, that learning the principles of mathematics is like learning to walk slowly since some days will be difficult while others might be easy. Since the first day of math, I've seen that there are more methods to solve a problem, but knowing what you did and what you were given is what matters most. As a young child, I have dedicated my life to learning more about mathematics because I have always held it in the highest regard and have consistently challenged myself to do so since, since math itself has no upper bound, why should I? I've noticed that there are more methods to get an answer in mathematics than in other subjects because it has different steps and patterns. Not everything will be as straightforward as you might wish it to be, but if you proceed in the proper direction and follow the right procedures, you can determine whether you are on the right track or whether you need to check or adjust what you are doing. I believe that mathematics is analogous to the key to the world, and the reason for this is that even knowing it all doesn't help you in any way; rather, you need to be able to grasp the pattern of the road and the route it takes. What is life without mathematics, in general, really like? It serves as our only daily road map, aids in a variety of endeavors, and fosters many forms of growth. My love for math came through from my family it has helped me to understand the main importance of math and the cause why math should become everyone's first love and everything.
