Hello, my name is precious tatum. I am 19, originally from Fordyce, arkansas. I am the daughter of LaQueenna Tatum. I am applying for this scholarship because doing hair is my way out. I chose this career path because as a child my mom and I were subjected to domestic abuse from my step father. so when it was time to do hair or anything revolving beauty. It was our peace or what bring us together to make us stronger. I have been doing hair since I was 14. I also chose to do hair because do to the domestic abuse my mom lost some of her hair and I’ve always wanted to learn how to make her feel better about herself or help her with any little thing when it came to her beauty. As a woman we have to go out very good looking to the public. so when my mom didn’t feel good . I felt at fault. So far being in cosmetology school and passing my state board test with a 94. I felt like I accomplished a lot. Only thing left for me now is my written exam. I’m nervous but I know I will pass. After this last month of school. In August I plan to continue my studies and go to business school so I can open my own shop and help women who have been subjected to domestic abuse and who just don’t feel the same about themselves and my regular clients also. This is my passion because I know how it feels to not feel pretty or have that confidence that you should have. Or have my confidence knocked down. I plan to attend southern Arkansas university tech for one more year to get my business license and then go be with my mother in Las Vegas, Nevada ; and I want to open a shop there. I have been working so hard in cosmetology school, and it’s all paying off. I go hard everyday for this and to make my mother proud. I would really appreciate if I was chosen for this scholarship. I have a 3.0 gpa. I am a cheerleader, I ran in homecoming. I have an outstanding personality and im very sweet. I express myself through my passion of doing hair , and doing hair is my escape from my problems . If I get this scholarship I plan to use is wisely and make the organization look good and also make my mother proud .
