    Technology has changed the way people communicate, learn, and interact with one another. It allows people to share ideas instantly, collaborate across long distances, and access information more easily than ever before. At the same time, many people worry that technology can weaken authentic human connection by replacing face to face interaction with screens and messages. In reality, the challenge is not technology itself but how we choose to use it. If used thoughtfully, technology can preserve and even strengthen human connection rather than replace it. One way to preserve authentic connection is by using technology as a tool to support real relationships rather than substitute for them. Digital communication makes it easier to stay in contact with friends, family, and colleagues who may live far away. Video calls, group chats, and collaborative platforms allow people to share experiences and work together even when they are not in the same place. However, these tools are most meaningful when they strengthen relationships that already exist. Technology should enhance communication, not become the only form of it. Technology can also strengthen human connection by creating communities that might not otherwise exist. Online spaces allow people with shared interests to connect, learn from each other, and collaborate on projects. Students interested in subjects like computer science, music, or art can work together even if they attend different schools or live in different countries. These communities help people feel supported and encourage them to explore ideas that they might not have discovered on their own. At the same time, preserving authentic connection requires intentional effort. In a world filled with notifications, social media, and constant digital interaction, it can be easy to lose focus on the people around us. One way to address this challenge is by creating moments where technology is set aside in favor of direct interaction.     Paying for college is something I have thought about carefully as I plan for my future. I know that pursuing a degree in computer science, and eventually continuing my education through a master’s program, will require a significant financial investment. Because of this, I have tried to approach the challenge of student loan debt with a plan that balances financial responsibility, academic opportunity, and long term career goals. One of the most important steps I am taking is applying for scholarships and financial aid. Scholarships help reduce the amount of money that students need to borrow, which makes a large difference over time. By actively seeking out scholarships and financial support, I hope to minimize the amount of debt I will carry after graduation. Even small scholarships can add up and reduce the financial pressure that often comes with higher education. I also plan to continue working while I am in school whenever possible. Gaining work experience during college can help cover some educational expenses while also building skills that are valuable for future careers. In fields like computer science, internships and part time work often provide both financial support and professional experience. At first I was simply interested in understanding how programs are built and how code turns an idea into something functional.     One of the most influential people in my life was my theater director, Dr. Michael. I first met him in elementary school when I joined my first play. At the time I was just a kid who thought theater looked fun, but Dr. Michael quickly became someone who shaped how I viewed both challenges and opportunities. What made Dr. Michael special was the way he treated every student with sincerity. He had a sense of humor and was always joking with us, but underneath that he genuinely cared about the people around him. During my freshman year of high school I stopped by his office to talk about a theater project. Somehow the conversation shifted to college and I mentioned that I wanted to study computer science. He smiled and joked that if I became successful I would have to help pay off his student loans. Then he said something that stuck with me. He told me that if computer science was what I wanted to pursue, I should go after it fully and not doubt myself. It was a small moment, but it showed me that he believed in my goals even though they had nothing to do with theater. Dr. Michael influenced students in ways that went far beyond performances. Because of this gap, the advantages of new technology are often concentrated among those who already have strong access to resources. I want to help change that by building systems that are easier to use, easier to understand, and more widely available. In the future I hope to work on projects that use machine learning to improve access to education, information, and opportunities. For example, AI systems could help students in under resourced schools access personalized learning tools or provide teachers with better insights into how students are learning. Similar systems could help small businesses or community organizations analyze data that could improve how they serve the people around them. Graduate study will allow me to explore more advanced research topics and gain the experience needed to design large scale systems that address complex problems. I want to contribute to research that focuses on making AI systems more efficient, more understandable, and easier for organizations with limited resources to use. This scholarship would play an important role in helping me move toward these goals. By reducing the financial strain of paying for college, it would allow me to focus more of my time and energy on learning, research, and building meaningful projects. Instead of needing to prioritize financial concerns, I would be able to pursue internships, research opportunities, and collaborative projects that deepen my understanding of artificial intelligence. In addition, reducing the financial burden of my undergraduate education will make it more realistic for me to pursue a master’s degree after graduation. Graduate study requires a strong commitment of time and resources, and having support during my undergraduate years will make that path more achievable. With the help of this scholarship, I would be better positioned to continue my education, contribute to research in artificial intelligence, and work toward my goal of making advanced technology more accessible to communities that need it most.

    My father, Rahul, is the person I look to most as a father figure. What makes him special to me is the way he approaches problems with patience and curiosity. Growing up, I often watched him work through challenges step by step, whether it was something related to his job or a problem around the house. Instead of getting frustrated, he would slow down and try to understand how things worked before trying to fix them. Watching that process from a young age shaped how I began to think about solving problems myself. He is also the person who first sparked my interest in coding. When I was younger, he would sometimes show me things he was working on with computers or explain how technology could be used to solve real problems in the world. Those early conversations made me curious about how software worked and how people could build tools that others rely on every day. Over time that curiosity grew into a real interest, and I started exploring computer science on my own through classes, small projects, and experimenting with code. What I appreciate most about my father is the way he encourages me to think independently. When I ask him for advice, he usually does not just tell me what to do. Instead he asks questions that help me think through the situation myself. That approach has helped me become more thoughtful when facing challenges and more patient when something does not work the first time. It also taught me that solving problems often takes time and persistence. Recently I had the opportunity to work with him on a project for his company where we explored creating an AI based search algorithm to reduce inefficiency in their systems. Being able to collaborate with him on something technical was meaningful because it felt like a continuation of the curiosity he first encouraged years ago. It was also exciting to see how the skills I have been developing in computer science could apply to real world problems. What makes my father special is not only what he has taught me directly, but also the example he sets through his actions. He approaches challenges calmly, treats people with respect, and is always willing to keep learning. His influence is a big reason I developed an interest in technology and problem solving.     Helpfulness, to me, means recognizing when someone needs support and taking the time to offer it. Throughout my life I have tried to practice this through teaching, leadership, and collaboration. One of the most meaningful ways I have demonstrated helpfulness is through teaching karate. For the past four years I have worked with younger students, helping them learn techniques while also building discipline and confidence. Many students begin feeling unsure of themselves or frustrated when movements do not come easily. Part of my role is encouraging them through those moments and reminding them that improvement takes patience and practice. Over time I have seen students who once struggled become more confident in their abilities, which has shown me how much consistent support can matter. I have also tried to demonstrate helpfulness within my school community. As President of my school’s Drama Club and Choir, I focus on making rehearsals and meetings welcoming for everyone. New members often arrive feeling nervous about performing or sharing their ideas. I try to take time to talk with them, answer questions, and encourage them to participate. Creating an environment where people feel comfortable trying new things has become one of my main goals as a leader. These experiences have taught me that being helpful often starts with listening carefully and being present for others. Persistence and perseverance have also shaped many of my successes. When I first started learning computer science, I quickly realized that programming requires patience. Small mistakes in code can prevent an entire program from working, and finding the problem can take a long time. Early on I faced many moments where my programs simply would not run the way I expected. One example of persistence came during a project in AP Computer Science Principles when my team and I built a small video game. At several points the game stopped working because of bugs we could not immediately identify. Instead of giving up, we carefully tested each part of the program, revising and debugging step by step. It took many attempts to solve the problems, but each small discovery helped us move closer to a working version. Eventually we were able to finish the project successfully. Through experiences like teaching karate, leading student groups, and working through technical challenges, I have learned that helpfulness and perseverance often go together. Supporting others requires patience, and solving difficult problems requires the same steady effort.
