Pursuing my education at Liberty University is both a blessing and a calling for me and my family. Although the financial burden has been a significant challenge especially coming from a developing nation, I firmly believe that my journey here is part of God’s purpose for my life. A scholarship would greatly ease the strain on my parents and allow me to focus more fully on my academic and spiritual growth.
My father studied at Liberty University's School of Divinity, an experience that equipped him with the skills he now uses to train and empower emerging leaders across Africa. His example deeply shaped my own aspirations. Like him, I hope to combine professional excellence with faithful service. As I work toward becoming a software engineer, I am committed not only to building a successful career but also to using technology to help solve real problems in my community.
Whether through developing tools that support education, improving access to information, or mentoring young people in STEM, I want my work to reflect my faith and contribute to positive change. A scholarship would not only support my academic journey but also help me fulfill the calling God has placed on my life: to serve and make an impact both locally and globally.

Willie Louis Pegues Science Scholarship
From an early age, I was fascinated by how things work. As a child I was very active at home, trying to figure out how every new piece of electronics works. Due to my curiosity, I was given “invertor-creator” as a nickname by one of my uncles. Curiosity grew into a passion for science, and over time my interest evolved into using science to solve real problems. Today, my academic journey is guided not only by a love for innovation but by a desire to use technology to uplift communities; values that echo the life and legacy of Willie Louis Pegues.
My science journey started in middle school, during a unit on energy and circuits. For the first time, I felt as though I could explain a rather complex phenomenon. For a class project, I did an experiment about electric current conductivity. I created a simple conductivity experiment using a plastic bottle, wires, a bulb, and a switch. We would test the current conductivity for different types of liquids such as soapy water, distilled water and so on. Watching the circuit function and being able to explain why it worked, opened my eyes to the excitement of understanding and building systems.
As I progressed through high school, courses in physics and technology helped me realize that Computer Sciences was the perfect path for me. It combined my early fascination with electronics and my growing interest in solving real-world problems through automation, and innovation. As a Computer Science major, my long-term career goal is to become a DevOps engineer who uses technology to support the missionary field. My home church has in project to build a missionary complex that will house a hospital, training academy, TV studio and so on. I want to lead the IT department and provide learners with knowledge and technical support throughout the construction process. Coming from a developing country, I understand how mastering new technologies is crucial to economic growth and improving everyday life.
Willie Louis Pegue’s life story resonates with me. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to his profession, family and served in the Army. His faith and dedication to serving others reflects commitment to the community. Those same values are central to my educational and career goals. I want to be an inspiration for the generation to come and impact others. Applying for a scholarship created in his honor is meaningful because it represents a legacy of teaching, supporting, and inspiring others; something I hope to carry forward in my own work.
Furthermore, coming from a financially challenged background, receiving this scholarship would ease the financial burden of my education. Computer Sciences is a demanding field and balancing rigorous coursework with financial concerns can be challenging. However, I am committed to doing everything possible to get this education. This scholarship would alleviate the financial burden, allowing me to dedicate more time to my studies, participate in hands-on research experiences, and pursue leadership opportunities; thus, strengthening my skills. Most importantly, it would motivate me to continue striving toward a career defined by purpose, service, and the desire to uplift others through science and technology.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to apply for the Willie Louis Pegues Scholarship. If selected, I will honor his legacy by pursuing my degree with determination and integrity, using the skills I gain in Computer Sciences to serve my community and contribute to solutions that make a difference.
Jim Maxwell Memorial Scholarship
Growing up as a pastor’s son, I was surrounded by Christian values, yet I did not fully understand what faith meant until God touched my heart in a personal way. From that moment, faith became the foundation of my life, guiding my decisions, strengthening me through adversity, and shaping the person I strive to be. The Jim Maxwell Memorial Scholarship represents more than financial support; to me, it symbolizes an opportunity to honor a legacy of service while pursuing my calling to use Computer Science in the missionary field.
I was raised in Cameroon, a sub-Saharan African country with limited educational resources. The dream of studying in the United States often felt unreachable, and I frequently questioned whether I would ever be able to pursue the career I envisioned. Yet my parents, who have always valued education, sacrificed immensely to support my sister and me. Through God’s mercy and their dedication, My family an I are striving for me to attend Liberty University. Easing the financial burden of my education would mean honoring their sacrifices and focusing more fully on my academic goals.
However, my journey of faith has not been without struggle. For many years, I believed that playing the piano in church was enough to secure my spiritual commitment. In reality, I lacked a genuine relationship with the Lord. In an attempt to feel accepted by my classmates, I went astray from God’s Word and began drinking alcohol, something I had never done before. One night, when I returned home late, I found my father waiting for me. The disappointment in his eyes and his words: “The devil is trying to take away your destiny”, marked a turning point. I realized that the emptiness I felt came from distancing myself from God, not from any lack of acceptance by others.
That night transformed me. I began praying consistently for deliverance from insecurity and alcoholism, and over time, God helped me rebuild my sense of worth and identity and praying became an habit in the course of time. I learned that my value comes not from others’ opinions but from the purpose God has for my life. I thought alcohol would make me happier and more esteemed, but I realized it only drew me apart from God, leaving me with emptiness.
One of my proudest accomplishments has been serving in my church choir. There was no musician in my home church and with God’s grace, I taught myself to play the piano, using online tutorials when needed. I later began teaching teenagers in my church and seeing them grow reaffirmed my belief in the importance of leadership and mentorship. Currently, I am serving with LU One; an office of opportunity and enrichment on campus.
Looking ahead, I am pursuing a degree in Computer Science with the goal of becoming a DevOps Engineer. My faith will remain my compass as I strive to use my skills to serve others. My church plans to build a missionary complex with a training center for individuals with limited means, and I hope to help coordinate its IT department, empowering youth who lack access to the opportunities I have been given.
Jim Maxwell’s legacy inspires me to live with purpose, faith, and dedication to serve others. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to study abroad, and I aspire to give back by expanding access to education in my community. This scholarship would not only support my academic journey but also help me continue a mission of uplifting and empowering others.
