Bio

I am a third-year biology major at Vermont State University, originally from Canada and currently studying in the USA. My goal is to become a medical research scientist and contribute to advancements in healthcare that improve patient outcomes. As the captain of the NCAA women’s soccer team, I’ve developed strong leadership and teamwork skills that guide me in both academics and athletics. Outside of school, I balance three jobs: coaching youth soccer, working in the admissions department, and supporting students through College Steps. I am passionate about science, community, and making a lasting impact through my work.

Throughout my life, I’ve faced numerous challenges that have shaped who I am today, both as a student and as an individual. One of the most significant obstacles I’ve overcome is learning how to manage my time effectively while balancing multiple responsibilities. Growing up in a household that emphasized hard work and independence, I often felt the pressure to excel in everything I did. This pressure, coupled with the demands of being a student-athlete and working multiple jobs, led to moments of burnout. However, I learned to prioritize self-care, develop time-management strategies, and seek support when needed. These experiences have not only strengthened my resilience but have also taught me the value of perseverance and adaptability. My passion for pursuing a degree in STEM, particularly in biology, stems from my curiosity about the world and my desire to contribute to advancements in healthcare. I’ve always been fascinated by the intricacies of living organisms and the potential for science to address real-world problems. As a future medical research scientist, I hope to help develop innovative solutions that improve patient outcomes and quality of life. The challenges I’ve faced have fueled my determination to pursue this path, and I believe that overcoming adversity has made me more focused and dedicated to my academic and career goals. Financially, pursuing higher education has been a significant challenge. As a student juggling three jobs—coaching youth soccer, working in the admissions department, and supporting students through College Steps—there are times when the financial strain feels overwhelming. Despite these challenges, I am committed to my education and to achieving my long-term goals. This scholarship would be an immense support in alleviating some of the financial burden, allowing me to focus more on my studies, research, and extracurricular activities. It would not only assist me financially but also serve as a reminder of the hard work I’ve put in to reach this point. Ultimately, I believe that overcoming adversity has only strengthened my resolve to pursue a degree in STEM. This scholarship would empower me to continue pushing forward and help me achieve my goals, contributing to the advancement of healthcare and making a lasting impact on the world.
