Bio

As a first-generation Asian American coming from a low-income household with loving parents, I was taught the importance of planning for the future. From the start, I've had aspirations and goals to become an engineer that's why I am currently a member of my high school's official FRC team, Chips. It may not be as well recognized as our sister team, Robonauts, but we are still young and constantly improving getting better and better each year. As you can tell I'm pretty passionate about robotics and engineering as a whole. This is why this scholarship will help me arrive at that destination with your financial help.

The clinking of metal, the hum of motors, and the synchronized cheers of my teammates are etched in my memory. It was the moment our robotics team, after months of relentless effort and overcoming significant challenges, finally qualified for the World Championships. This achievement was a testament to our resilience, ingenuity, and unwavering determination. Our journey began with excitement and high hopes, but soon, we encountered an array of obstacles that tested our limits. As the team captain, I felt the weight of these challenges keenly. Our first setback came early: our main sponsor pulled out, leaving us scrambling for funds to buy essential materials and components. This financial strain threatened to halt our progress before we had even begun. In response, I spearheaded a fundraising campaign, tapping into local businesses, community organizations, and online platforms. We organized bake sales, car washes, and even a local tech fair to showcase our work and solicit donations. My skills in communication and persuasion were put to the test as I presented our mission to potential sponsors, emphasizing the educational and inspirational value of our project. Through persistent effort, we managed to secure enough funds to keep our dream alive. Next, we faced technical challenges. Our initial robot design was innovative but flawed. It struggled to perform basic tasks consistently, and repeated failures dampened team morale. Recognizing the need for a new approach, our mentors encouraged a brainstorming session where every team member could contribute ideas, regardless of their experience level. This inclusive strategy fostered a collaborative spirit and led to the breakthrough we needed. One of our younger members suggested a radical redesign of our robot's arm mechanism, drawing inspiration from an industrial robotic arm he had seen online. We decided to take a risk and implement this new design. It required us to learn new programming techniques and adapt our existing knowledge to a more complex system. I took on the challenge of learning advanced coding languages and algorithms, dedicating countless hours to online courses and tutorials. My persistence paid off when we successfully integrated the new design, significantly improving our robot's performance. Our next hurdle was time management. Balancing schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and our intensive robotics schedule became increasingly difficult. I implemented a strict but flexible timetable, dividing tasks into manageable segments and setting realistic deadlines. Each team member was assigned specific roles based on their strengths, ensuring efficiency and accountability. This structured approach allowed us to make steady progress without compromising our academic responsibilities. The final challenge came just days before the State competition: our main intake had broke. With limited time and resources, we had to think on our feet. I led the team through a rigorous troubleshooting process, identifying the issue as a hardware failure. We scavenged parts from older projects and borrowed from neighboring teams, embodying the spirit of cooperation and resourcefulness. Our ability to adapt under pressure was crucial, and we managed to restore full functionality just in time. When we saw our team was qualified for World Championships, the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. We had transformed adversity into achievement through strategic planning, collaborative problem-solving, and an unyielding commitment to our goal. This experience taught me invaluable lessons in leadership, perseverance, and the power of teamwork. Reaching the World Championships was not just about the destination; it was about the journey and the skills we developed along the way. We learned that tremendous hardship can forge tremendous strength, and that with the right strategies, skills, and techniques, no obstacle is insurmountable.
      Book Lovers Scholarship
If I could have everyone in the world read just one book, it would be "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. I remember the first time I read it; I was fourteen, curled up in a quiet corner of the library. As I turned the pages, I was transported to the small town of Maycomb, Alabama, where I witnessed the world through the innocent eyes of Scout Finch. That experience changed me, shaping my understanding of empathy, justice, and the profound impact of prejudice. "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a timeless novel that addresses themes still relevant today. At its heart, the book is a call to recognize and confront the biases and injustices in our societies. Through the moral integrity of Atticus Finch, the novel teaches the importance of standing up for what is right, even in the face of overwhelming opposition. This lesson is crucial for everyone, especially in a world where social justice issues are increasingly prominent. One of the most powerful aspects of the book is its portrayal of empathy. Atticus famously advises Scout, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” This perspective encourages readers to look beyond their own experiences and understand others' struggles and motivations. In an age where division and misunderstanding often dominate, this message is vital. Moreover, "To Kill a Mockingbird" exposes the harsh realities of racism and inequality. The trial of Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman, serves as a stark reminder of the systemic injustices that persist in our world. By confronting these issues head-on, the book inspires readers to question their own prejudices and advocate for a more equitable society. Reading this novel fosters a sense of moral responsibility and compassion. It challenges readers to reflect on their values and actions, promoting a more inclusive and understanding world. If everyone read "To Kill a Mockingbird," I believe we would see a shift towards greater empathy and justice in our global community. Ultimately, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is more than just a story; it's a powerful tool for social change. By encouraging everyone to read it, we can hope to nurture a world that values empathy, justice, and the courage to stand up for what is right.
      Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
Books have always been my escape, a way to travel through time and space without ever leaving my room. However, it wasn’t until I stumbled upon #BookTok that my bookshelf truly began to transform. The #BookTok community has a unique magic, an ability to breathe life into books that might otherwise go unnoticed. Here’s a glimpse into my ideal bookshelf, inspired by #BookTok recommendations, and the profound impact these titles have had on both me and the community at large. First on the shelf is "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller. This book is a staple in the #BookTok universe, revered for its lyrical prose and heart-wrenching love story. It has rekindled an interest in Greek mythology, showing that ancient tales still hold immense emotional power. For me, this book was a revelation. It taught me the beauty of vulnerability and the strength found in love and friendship, transcending even the boundaries of time. Next, I’d place "A Court of Thorns and Roses" by Sarah J. Maas. This series has taken #BookTok by storm, with its blend of fantasy, romance, and adventure. It’s not just a story but an entire world that readers have fallen in love with. The character of Feyre, with her resilience and growth, is a source of inspiration for many, including myself. This book reminds us of the importance of inner strength and the power of redemption. Another must-have is "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This novel's gripping narrative and complex characters have made it a #BookTok favorite. Evelyn’s story, filled with glamour, secrets, and sacrifice, resonates deeply with readers. For me, it was an eye-opener to the realities behind fame and the multifaceted nature of love and identity. It also sparked countless discussions on the platform about representation and the complexity of human relationships. “Circe” by Madeline Miller deserves a special spot as well. This novel, much like “The Song of Achilles,” has captured the hearts of many with its feminist retelling of the life of the enchantress Circe. #BookTok has praised it for its empowering message and rich storytelling. It gave me a new perspective on mythological figures, highlighting the strength and resilience of women who are often misunderstood or underestimated. Finally, I’d include “It Ends with Us” by Colleen Hoover. This book has become a cornerstone of #BookTok for its raw and honest portrayal of domestic abuse and the struggle for self-worth. Its impact on readers is profound, providing both a mirror and a window into the lives of those affected by such issues. For me, it was a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy and the courage it takes to break the cycle of abuse. Each of these books has left an indelible mark on the #BookTok community, fostering discussions, tears, and a sense of belonging among readers. They’ve inspired art, debates, and, most importantly, a deeper appreciation for the written word. My ideal bookshelf, shaped by these #BookTok favorites, is more than just a collection of stories; it’s a testament to the power of books to change lives and connect people across the globe.
