There are two things that I love to do the most - engineering and gymnastics. For as long as I can remember, all I wanted to do was build mechanisms and understand how minor decisions influence the outcome of mechanical designs. I started making scaled replicas of vehicles out of various construction sets and spare parts, then continued with design optimizations. Years before entering high school, I already had my mind set on an engineering major for college, as I could not fathom doing anything else for the rest of my life. In high school, I had an opportunity to participate in Project Lead The Way through Rochester Institute of Technology. It was the best thing that has ever happened to me, as I had a chance to narrow down my interest and become better prepared for my engineering future. Studying different aspects of engineering and working as a part of a like-minded team in the lab solidified my certainty that I will be able to contribute to our society's future of advanced sustainable engineering. Much still needs to be done to improve our world, and I hope to be a part of this effort. When it comes to gymnastics, I was a latecomer, starting at 11 years old. Soon it became a huge part of my life, and with the guidance of my coach, I reached level 9 within 5 years. I love the satisfaction of mastering new skills and overcoming obstacles. I love being a part of a great team. I love traveling and competing and the sense of community that it brings. I think it is a beautiful sport. I hope it will be brought back into the spotlight at colleges.
