Bio

Every student holds incredible potential—sometimes, all they need is the right opportunity to shine. As a first-generation college student, I know firsthand the transformative power of opportunity. My passion is championing equitable identification and support for gifted learners from all walks of life, especially those who are culturally and linguistically diverse, twice-exceptional, from low socioeconomic backgrounds, or otherwise underrepresented. Outside of my advocacy, I love crocheting and find genuine joy in planning and organization—whether that means crafting a project or orchestrating an event, I bring creativity and strategy to everything I do. I am committed to opening doors for others and creating inclusive pathways so every student can pursue—and realize—their highest potential. Support me in overcoming the challenge of educational costs, empowering me to provide meaningful opportunities to students.

      GraceFest Empowering Futures Scholarship
Standing at the crossroads of adversity and hope, I am a first-generation college student, trauma survivor, and devoted mother who has transformed hardship into a lifelong mission to empower and uplift others. My life’s journey has been marked by both challenge and hope. As a first-generation college student, I have navigated unfamiliar territory without a roadmap, often feeling the weight of expectations and uncertainty. Childhood trauma and ongoing mental health struggles have added layers of complexity to my path, demanding a resilience I never thought possible. Yet, it is precisely through these obstacles that I have discovered my true strength—a strength that fuels my aspirations and inspires my role as a mother. Motherhood transformed not just my daily life, but the very foundation of my dreams. Holding my child, I recognized that my pursuit of education was no longer just about my future, but about the legacy I would create for my family. My commitment to academic excellence is deeply rooted in a desire to model perseverance, faith, and integrity. I want my child to see that adversity can be a stepping stone to purpose, and that healing and growth are possible even after deep wounds. Education is more than a personal goal for me; it is a calling. Having survived trauma and learned to advocate for my mental health, I feel compelled to serve others through ministry. My passion lies in equipping students with opportunities and resources to unlock their best life—especially those, like myself, who begin their journeys feeling unseen or unsupported. Through mentoring and community outreach, I strive to light the way for others, demonstrating that grace and transformation are not only possible but attainable. The Empowering Futures Scholarship represents more than financial support; it is a community of belief and encouragement. By breaking down financial barriers, this scholarship would allow me to fully immerse myself in my studies and in service to others, free from the anxiety of making impossible choices between tuition and basic needs. With your support, I can focus on excelling academically, contributing to my campus and local community, and setting a powerful example for my child. Ultimately, my goal is to create lasting change—for my family, for the students I serve, and for the community that has helped shape me. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to pursue higher education and to walk alongside others in their transformative journeys. Thank you for investing in the dreams of first-generation, single mothers. Together, we are building a brighter future for all.
      Reimagining Education Scholarship
If I were to design a class required for all K-12 students, it would be called “Creative Problem Solving: Reimagining and Reinventing the World.” This course would provide a sanctuary for imagination, innovation, and the fearless pursuit of new ideas. Instead of shaping students into repetitive thinkers who conform and follow well-trodden paths, this class would cultivate their ability to see the world through fresh eyes, echoing Marcel Proust’s profound insight: “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” Teaching students to think beyond existing boundaries would be a radical step toward empowering them in a rapidly changing world. Right now, the educational system too often strips children of creativity during their most formative years. From an early age, students are pressured to conform, memorize, and perform within rigid frameworks that gradually erase their natural curiosity and imagination. This “creativity robbery” dampens their confidence in exploring new possibilities and solving problems in innovative ways. Yet, the future is no longer distant—it is now. The challenges we face demand thinkers who do not merely adapt but invent new solutions. Those who survive and thrive will be the ones who unlock creativity not as a luxury, but as an essential survival skill—a tool they sharpen continuously throughout life. The impact of such a class would be profound and far-reaching. By embedding creative problem-solving into every stage of education, we give students two fundamental elements for success: resources and opportunity. Resource means more than technology or information—it means equipping young minds with methods for creative thinking, analytical reasoning, and resilience in the face of failure. Opportunity means time, space, and encouragement to explore ideas, collaborate, and bring innovations to life. Together, these fuel confidence, inspire persistence, and foster a mindset that prizes curiosity over compliance. Students would learn to approach problems not as obstacles but as invitations to reimagine what is possible. This skill keeps giving—it grows stronger with use, continually adapting to whatever new context arises. For instance, creative problem-solving challenges students to gather diverse perspectives, engage in teamwork, and make informed decisions—abilities essential not only for academic success but for navigating life’s complexities. Studies also show that early exposure to problem-solving pedagogy significantly boosts creativity, especially when students identify problems themselves and collaborate in diverse groups. Beyond academics, creativity nurtures emotional growth by encouraging productive struggle and resilience. Allowing students to experiment, fail, and try again builds self-esteem and emotional stamina, preparing them not just to succeed but to lead change. This class would advocate for rekindling the imagination robbed from so many during traditional schooling, placing creativity front and center as the greatest skill set for the future—one that empowers individuals to shape rather than simply survive their world. In summary, “Creative Problem Solving: Reimagining and Reinventing the World” would transform education from a regime of conformity into an incubator of innovation. It opens doors to new ways of thinking, equips students with enduring skills, and, most importantly, restores the freedom to imagine—because seeing the world as new is the first step toward changing it for the better.
