Hi, my name is Paris Hayden. I am a second-year Nutritional Science major at the illustrious Howard University. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, coming from a small family, but I have big dreams that I am blessed to have the opportunity to work toward. I am a first-generation college student pursuing a degree in Nutritional Science on the pre-dentistry track. Working on nails and creating intricate designs with 3D builder gel has taught me the value of precision, attention to detail, and creativity. These skills revealed my passion for meticulous, hands-on work and ultimately guided me toward a career in prosthodontics. I am determined to be among the 3.8% of Black dentists in the United States and part of the even smaller group who pursue advanced specialized training, using my skills to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. My name is Paris Hayden, and I am a sophomore Nutritional Science major on a pre-dental track at the illustrious Howard University. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. In high school, I graduated at the top of my class while participating in competitive varsity sports and earning my state cosmetology license. Growing up as an only child with a single mother has played a huge role in my life and also in who I am as an individual.  At an early age, I learned the importance of hard work and perseverance, which are qualities crucial to success. Although coming from a lower-income background is difficult at times, it has fortunately shaped me into a strong young lady who does not accept "no" for an answer.  While completing my cosmetology course in high school, I discovered my passion for nails. Doing nails has opened many opportunities for me, allowing me to turn my love for art into a business and ultimately helped me choose my career path. As a prosthodontist, I will not only be able to help others through health care but also improve their confidence through their smile. I am also able to use my passion for creativity and attention to detail to help me confidently help patients. I plan on impacting my community by giving back and volunteering, like now, as I am currently involved in mentoring groups at my university that visit local schools and offer mentorship to lower-income communities. Additionally, throughout my career, I plan to give back by offering plenty of opportunities to future students who dream of pursuing a career in dentistry. I will do this by being a source of help for future dentists by offering opportunities for shadowing and learning, especially to other black students. I am aiming to be a part of the 3.8 percent of black dentists in the United States, and also a part of the smaller group of 3% of dentists who pursue advanced specialized training beyond their general dental degree.  I will inspire the next generation through engaging, hands-on activities such as arts and crafts. Activities like sculpting with clay or creating art will not only allow children to actively participate but also provide an outlet for creativity. I believe creativity should be emphasized because, as a prosthodontist, my career requires attention to detail as well as creative problem-solving. Creativity has not only served as an outlet for expression, but also helped me discover my interests and has guided me towards a bright future and fulfilling career.
