As a recent high school graduate, I’m proud of the foundation I’ve built both on and off the field. I’ve been a varsity baseball player throughout high school, a sport that has shaped my discipline, leadership, and resilience. I graduated in the top 25 of my class, demonstrating my commitment to academic excellence. Outside the classroom and off the field, I’ve developed a strong interest in finance and investing, spending hours studying the markets and managing a personal investment portfolio. My passion for business led me to join a startup tech company focused on improving hitting and pitching performance for baseball players using data and AI. This experience has deepened my interest in the intersection of sports and analytics and sharpened my strategic thinking.
In the fall, I’ll be attending Emory University, where I plan to study finance and pursue a career in investment management. Long term, my goal is to help individuals and institutions make smart financial decisions while giving back to communities through financial literacy and mentorship. I believe I’m a strong candidate for a scholarship because I’ve consistently shown a drive to excel, whether through academics, athletics, or entrepreneurship. I’m motivated by the idea of making an impact—on the field, in the classroom, and one day, in the world of finance. This scholarship would not only support my education but also fuel my mission to turn ambition into lasting impact.

Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
Since the age of ten, baseball has been a constant in my life—a source of discipline, resilience, and leadership. Whether competing on travel teams or leading high school teammates through challenges, I’ve learned how to perform under pressure, grow through failure, and work as part of something bigger than myself. Now, as I take the next step in both my academic and athletic journey by playing baseball at Emory University, I carry with me the values the sport has instilled in me.
My development hasn’t been limited to the field. For the past three years, I’ve volunteered at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic, spending summers building meaningful relationships with children and supporting their day-to-day needs. This experience grounded me in empathy and humility. It showed me the importance of human connection, especially across language and cultural differences. I quickly realized that listening and showing up consistently often speaks louder than words.
During these trips, I also helped build baseball facilities in the town of Consuelo—turning empty fields into meaningful spaces for growth and community. It was powerful to use the sport I love as a way to empower others. Working on these projects taught me how to collaborate with teammates and locals toward a shared mission. It revealed how passion, when paired with purpose, can create lasting change.
These experiences—both on the field and in service—have shaped the kind of student I will be at Emory. I plan to approach my academics with the same focus I bring to game day, and to engage with the Emory community the way I’ve engaged with Consuelo—with intention, compassion, and purpose. Emory’s commitment to academic rigor and service leadership resonates deeply with my own values. I’m particularly excited to explore programs like Volunteer Emory and the Goizueta Business School, where I can merge my interests in business and community impact.
The Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship is instrumental in helping me thrive at Emory. This generous support doesn’t just relieve financial pressure—it’s a vote of confidence in my potential and the work I aspire to do. It allows me to fully dedicate myself to academics, athletics, and service without compromise. Knowing that others believe in my journey is both humbling and motivating, and I’m committed to honoring that trust through action.
At Emory, I hope to keep building—not just baseball fields, but relationships, leadership skills, and solutions that matter. I’m ready to contribute in meaningful ways, both on the field and in the classroom, and to grow as a student, teammate, and community member. The lessons I’ve learned through years of baseball and service will continue to guide me as I make the most of every opportunity Emory has to offer.
Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
Since the age of ten, baseball has been more than just a sport—it’s shaped who I am. Through years of playing on travel teams and in school, I’ve developed discipline and resilience. I’ve learned how to perform under pressure, bounce back from setbacks, and work as part of a team. This journey is now continuing at the next level, as I will be playing baseball at Emory University. I’m excited to bring my competitive drive and team-first mindset to the Eagles, both on and off the field.
But baseball isn’t the only place I’ve grown. For the past three years, I’ve spent part of each summer volunteering at an orphanage in the Dominican Republic. Working with the kids there has taught me the importance of empathy, patience, and showing up for others. Despite language barriers and cultural differences, I formed meaningful connections that reminded me how powerful human connection can be. Each trip reminded me that service isn’t about what you give—it’s about what you gain in humility and perspective.
In the town of Consuelo, I combined my passion for baseball with my commitment to service by helping build baseball facilities for local youth. This project showed me that my love for the game can be more than personal—it can be a force for good. Working side by side with teammates and community members taught me about collaboration and the value of building something that lasts beyond yourself.
These experiences have prepared me to thrive at Emory—on the field, in the classroom, and in the broader community. I plan to bring the same dedication I’ve shown in baseball and service to my studies in business and finance. Emory’s emphasis on academic excellence, community engagement, and global awareness aligns perfectly with the values I’ve already built through my work in the Dominican Republic. I’m especially eager to get involved with Volunteer Emory and initiatives that support underserved youth, where I can continue combining service with leadership.
The Kalia Davis Memorial Scholarship will play a vital role in helping me thrive at Emory. This scholarship is more than financial support—it’s a reminder of the value of perseverance, heart, and commitment to community. It will allow me to fully focus on my academics, my team, and my growth without added financial pressure. With this support, I’ll be able to make the most of every opportunity at Emory, whether it’s on the field, in a finance lecture, or volunteering in Atlanta.
At Emory, I’m not just continuing a journey—I’m building on everything I’ve learned from baseball and service. I’m ready to grow, to contribute, and to lead with purpose, just like I’ve done in the Dominican Republic and on the diamond. I’m proud to be joining the Emory community—and ready to give it everything I’ve got.
Brett Brakel Memorial Scholarship
Baseball has been a defining part of my life, shaping not only how I approach competition but how I respond to challenges and opportunities. From early morning workouts to late-inning pressure, the game has taught me discipline, preparation, and resilience. I’ve learned that failure is inevitable—whether it’s striking out in a crucial moment or losing a tough game—but growth comes from how you respond. That mindset has become a part of who I am, influencing how I carry myself in the classroom, in leadership roles, and in life.
Over the past three years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic and volunteer at an orphanage while also working to renovate baseball fields in the town of Consuelo. These trips were some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Building connections with the children and helping improve their baseball facilities gave me a deep appreciation for how the game can unite people across language and culture. It reminded me that baseball is more than just a sport—it’s a vehicle for mentorship and lasting impact. Seeing the excitement on kids’ faces as they took the field on improved diamonds we helped restore motivated me to keep giving back through the game I love.
This fall, I’ll be continuing my baseball journey as a student-athlete at Emory University. I’m eager to grow as a player and compete at the collegiate level, but just as importantly, I look forward to finding ways to serve the Atlanta community. I plan to get involved in mentoring and volunteering with local youth baseball programs, helping kids develop not only as athletes but as people. I want to pass on the lessons I’ve learned—about teamwork and confidence—to the next generation.
Off the field, I have a strong interest in finance and investing. I’ve spent time independently studying the markets and recently joined a technology startup focused on enhancing baseball performance through data and analytics. This experience sparked my desire to pursue a career in investment management, where I hope to combine analytical thinking with leadership to help others reach their goals. One day, I hope to support financial literacy programs that make a difference in underserved communities.
The values baseball has given me—perseverance and community—align perfectly with the legacy of the Brett Brakel Memorial Scholarship. I would be honored to carry those values forward as a student, athlete, and future leader. This scholarship would not only support my academic and athletic journey at Emory, but also empower me to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
