I am Othello Kwaku Amo Adjepong, a 20 year old Ghanian American academic scholar-athlete, who is a gifted visual artist and a track runner. I was told that out of all my siblings I was the only child that entered the world not making a single sound, as if I was waiting to be born. Infact, my existence began on Howard University’s campus at the College of Fine Arts, where my parents met. You’ve guessed it, I was a theater baby hence the name “Othello.” With both parents in the performing arts and high achievers, the expectations were always there for me to do something amazing.
As a rising junior and Health Sciences major at Howard University on a Pre-Dental track. I am doing everything in my power to maintain (DDC) Discipline, Dedication & Concentration while on my path to academic and professional success. Becoming the first Dentist in my family would be an honor. I will be a dentist that makes oral health a priority and accessible for all low income families. I understand the importance of being the representation and symbol of hope in black and brown communities, one smile at a time.

Career Test Scholarship
My desired career path is to become a Pediatric Dentist, a goal shaped by a blend of personal experiences, academic pursuits, and community involvement. As a 20-year-old Ghanaian American academic scholar-athlete, my journey has been marked by a deep commitment to both my studies and my passions. Born on Howard University’s campus where my parents met, and named after the Shakespearean character Othello, I have always been driven by high expectations and a desire to make a meaningful impact.
Currently a rising junior majoring in Health Sciences on a Pre-Dental track at Howard University, I am actively taking steps toward achieving my goal. My academic journey is characterized by perseverance and dedication, particularly given the recent challenges my family has faced, including my mother’s diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis and my father’s unemployment. These personal adversities have fueled my resolve to excel in my studies and seek financial support through scholarships to alleviate the burden of college expenses.
In alignment with my career aspirations, I have gained valuable experience and developed relevant skills through various initiatives. This past summer, I worked with Cavity Busters, which provided me with hands-on experience in pediatric dental care while helping me save for my tuition. Additionally, participating in the Summer Health Pre-Professional Program (SHPEP) at Howard University’s School of Dentistry and working with the Linkable Program sponsored by Lincoln Financial has further enriched my understanding of the dental field and reinforced my commitment to my professional goals.
My involvement with organizations such as the 100 Black Men of Philadelphia, the Urban League of Philadelphia, Herb It Forward, and the William Walker Foundation reflects my dedication to community service and positive change. These experiences have not only allowed me to contribute to community initiatives but also demonstrated my commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
As I continue to navigate my academic and professional journey, I remain steadfast in my commitment to Discipline, Dedication, and Concentration (DDC). My vision is to become the first dentist in my family and to provide accessible oral health care to low-income families. I believe that improving oral health can be a powerful symbol of hope and self-esteem for young people, and I am determined to contribute to this positive impact, one smile at a time.
In summary, my experiences, skills, and interests are deeply aligned with my goal of becoming a Pediatric Dentist. Through academic excellence, hands-on experience, and community involvement, I am actively working towards making this vision a reality. I am driven by the belief that I can make a meaningful difference in my future profession and in the lives of those I serve.

Mark Twain once said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you figure out why.”

Kennard C. Brown Memorial Scholarship
Dreams Don't WorK Unless You Do!
I am Othello Kwaku Amo Adjepong, a 20-year-old Ghanaian American academic scholar-athlete who excels in visual arts and track running. I've been told that unlike my siblings, I entered the world without making a single sound, almost as if I was waiting to be born—a unique trait perhaps typical of a middle child. Raised by parents deeply immersed in the performing arts, my journey began on Howard University’s campus, where they first met. It’s no surprise, then, that I was dubbed “Othello,” a name steeped in theatrical history.
Currently a rising Junior majoring in Health Sciences on a Pre-Dental track at Howard University, I am steadfast in upholding Discipline, Dedication, and Concentration (DDC) as I pursue academic and professional success. Securing this scholarship would alleviate significant financial burdens as I progress through Howard University towards my dream of becoming a Pediatric Dentist. The year 2020 brought profound challenges to my family, both emotionally and financially; my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and my father faced unemployment. These adversities have only fueled my determination to maintain a high GPA and apply for scholarships that will enable me to achieve my goals.
While many children fear trips to the dentist, my experiences at Dr. Bresler’s “Cavity Busters” pediatric office were nothing short of inspiring. The care and positivity I received there ignited my passion for Dentistry. However, despite such inspiring mentors, there remains a scarcity of professionals of color in this field. As an African American man, it is crucial to me that black and brown children see themselves represented in white-collar professions.
This summer, I had the privilege of working as a Dental Assistant at Dr. Bresler's Cavity Busters, learning from a compassionate team of dentists. I am grateful for this opportunity and continually seek professional experiences that bolster my career aspirations. In 2023, I participated in SHPEP at HU-School of Dentistry and the Linkable Program sponsored by Lincoln Financial. Additionally, I am an active member of several organizations including the 100 Black Men of Philadelphia, the Urban League of Philadelphia, Herb It Forward, and the William Walker Foundation. Balancing these commitments alongside academic responsibilities has taught me invaluable time management skills and reinforced my focus.
As a young black male, personal growth and challenging stereotypes are paramount to me. I understand the weight of racial prejudices and the importance of defying them through academic excellence. Proud of my African heritage, I carry my surname with confidence, striving to positively impact my community and break barriers.
My vision is clear: to become the first dentist in my family and advocate for oral health accessibility among low-income families. I envision implementing community outreach programs with a mobile dental clinic providing annual cleanings. Through these efforts, I aim to be a symbol of hope and representation in black and brown communities, one smile at a time.
Please Consider me for this scholarship because I will prove that, “Dreams Don’t Work Unless You Do!
