Bio
I have always been passionate about literature and language composition. It’s something I’ve always been good at. This is why in the Fall (2023) I’ll be attending SF State under the Creative Writing major. My AP Lang teacher is my main inspiration for this. I want to learn how to write and I believe the Creative Writing major can provide this for me. As for my goals beyond college, I want to move to Oregon or Washington and buy my own home at some point. Hopefully, I’ll have a stable job and a nice home that I own so I’ll be able to care for my disabled brother in the future once my parents aren’t able to anymore.

A lonely, shy elementary school kid. That’s what I was. At the time, making friends was hard for me and I struggled in even the most simple social situations. It wasn’t until the 5th grade, I branched out beyond my one, equally shy, friend. Due to this, I became a stereotype. A shy kid who tore through a dozen books in a month. Despite it being the early 2010s, books were still expensive and my parents didn’t have the time to take me to the library once a week. So, I opted to rereading books I already owned or waiting for Christmas and my birthday. While it was a solution, I remember growing bored very quickly and unimpressed. My interests changed practically once a month. I needed new books.
Luckily for me, my grandma was retired.
My grandma spent her time exploring thrift stores in our county and collected all of the Pixie Hollow books for me. Every once in awhile, my grandma would come into my room holding a book or two, or an audio book that went along with the books. These books quickly became my favorite thing about Disney. Those days were exciting. Her bringing home a book for me meant that I would be able to escape my boredom and delve deeper into Pixie Hollow. I had already watched through all of the Tinkerbell movies multiple times. I was familiar with the characters and despite being only nine at the time, I was deeply invested in the Pixie Hollow lore.
Despite being 18 now and having no real connection to Disney other than a few fun memories, I owe a lot to those books. My home life was rough in a unique way and the Pixie Hollow books kept me distracted from problems I barely understood. While I don’t own the books anymore since I got rid of them when I was 13, I still occasionally take the time to rewatch the movies. While I can’t say that the books taught me a lesson or made me a better person, I can say with full confidence that I felt safe reading those books. My home life then was confusing and I didn’t know what I was happening half the time, and it was hard to ignore those problems without a distraction.
“The Tales of Pixie Hollow”. There are eleven books in that series. Those eleven books provided a distraction; a way to forget the chaos I lived in. Without a doubt, “The Tales of Pixie Hollow” made my childhood a little bit more bearable.
