As an international student hailing from Nigeria and attending Florida Southern College, I have encountered my fair share of challenges on my educational journey. The transition from my home country to the United States was marked by a profound shift in culture, education systems, and social dynamics, which demanded resilience, adaptability, and the ability to navigate a complex and unfamiliar environment. One of the significant adversities I faced as an international student was the process of adapting to a new educational system. The U.S. higher education system differs in many aspects from the Nigerian system, such as teaching methods, grading systems, and the overall approach to education. This transition required me to quickly grasp new learning methodologies, understand the expectations of my professors, and acclimate to a different academic culture. Furthermore, the challenges extended beyond the classroom. As an international student, I had to navigate the complexities of U.S. immigration regulations, including obtaining a student visa, adhering to visa requirements, and ensuring compliance with international student guidelines. These administrative tasks were often time-consuming and occasionally overwhelming. The cultural adjustment was another significant hurdle. Adapting to a new culture, social norms, and societal expectations was both exciting and daunting. Building relationships, understanding local customs, and feeling integrated into the campus community required effort and perseverance. On getting to my small-sized campus, I noticed the absence of an international community and I ran for the International Student Senate to make that difference. One of the key qualities that I brought with me to the United States, and which has been integral in overcoming these challenges, is my ambitiousness. Ambition fueled my desire to explore new horizons, excel academically, and make the most of my international student experience. My inquisitiveness played a crucial role in my ability to adapt, as I actively sought out information, asked questions, and engaged with my professors and peers to bridge the knowledge gap between my home country's educational system and the one I was embracing. However, ambition and inquisitiveness alone cannot address all the challenges faced as an international student. This is where this scholarship becomes a crucial aspect of my journey. It would significantly alleviate the financial burdens associated with international education, allowing me to focus more on my academic pursuits and extracurricular activities. By receiving this scholarship, I can continue to excel in my studies and actively contribute to my college community. The financial support would not only ease the burden of tuition costs but also provide me with more resources to engage in research projects, join student organizations, and participate in leadership opportunities. This, in turn, enhances my overall college experience and better equips me to overcome the adversities of being an international student. Moreover, the scholarship would reinforce my commitment to achieving academic excellence and becoming a change-maker in the fields of STEM and Business. It would allow me to channel my ambition and inquisitiveness into my studies and extracurricular activities without the constraints of financial worries. In conclusion, as an international student at Florida Southern College, I've encountered challenges related to academic adjustment, immigration regulations, and cultural adaptation. My ambitiousness and inquisitiveness have played an essential role in overcoming these challenges, but financial support is vital to fully harness my potential. This scholarship would alleviate financial burdens and enable me to excel in my studies, contribute to my college community, and continue my journey of educational growth and positive impact. It is an opportunity that would empower me to make the most of my international student experience and achieve my ambitious goals in STEM and Business.

I am Onyinyechi Colette Charles-Azike, and my commitment to addressing social issues in Nigeria is manifested through the creation of an initiative called "Mafita." Mafita is not merely a project; it is a movement designed to inspire, educate, and empower teenagers and young adults to become active change-makers. In Nigeria, despite its abundant resources, pervasive challenges such as poverty, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability persist. Mafita is a response to these challenges, aiming to instigate positive change by mobilizing the youth. The primary goal of Mafita is to raise awareness about the prevalent social issues impacting local communities and the world at large. Recognizing that awareness is the catalyst for meaningful change, we employ various mediums such as workshops, seminars, and social media platforms to equip teenagers and young adults with knowledge, fostering a sense of responsibility and engagement. Mafita is distinctive in its emphasis on encouraging ordinary individuals to be proactive in finding solutions. We firmly believe that everyone, regardless of age or background, has a role to play in addressing social challenges. By providing young people with the tools and knowledge needed to make a difference, even with limited resources, Mafita empowers a new generation of active citizens passionate about creating positive change. Our initiative goes beyond awareness; it provides practical solutions and actionable steps for implementation. Mafita offers guidance on how teenagers and young adults can get involved in community projects, advocate for change, or support local organizations tackling these issues. The ultimate goal is to inspire a generation committed to creating a positive impact. My commitment to Mafita is deeply rooted in my experiences and aspirations. Having witnessed the challenges faced by my country and community, I feel a profound sense of responsibility to contribute to finding solutions. We organized our summer program for children and the engagement and outcome were beyond our expectations. The Mafita Summer program forced me to think big and shaped me into a better leader. It taught me multitasking, financial intelligence and time management, and would remain one of the most memorable experiences thus far, as I got to impact kids from ages 3-15 and also raised N180,000 ($410). All proceeds from the week-long event were donated to an orphanage. My academic pursuits in Computer science with minors in Data analytics and Entrepreneurship alongside the leadership training I had the opportunity to get from Global Citizen Year Academy have equipped me with valuable skills and knowledge that I can apply to address these issues effectively in the short and long run. Mafita serves as a platform for me to leverage my technical abilities and leadership skills to inspire change in a meaningful way and I understand the importance of creating opportunities for one's self irrespective of life challenges. As the co-creator of Mafita, I aspire to witness the initiative's growth and lasting impact. We aim to expand our reach to more teenagers and young adults, empowering them to become informed, engaged, and proactive global citizens. Our vision is a future where the youth actively participate in addressing social challenges, creating a ripple effect of positive change throughout communities. In conclusion, Mafita is not just a social initiative; it is a transformative movement empowering teenagers and young adults to tackle specific social issues in Nigeria and the world at large. Through awareness, education, and practical solutions, we strive to create a new generation of change-makers committed to making a positive impact. The journey with Mafita has just begun, and we are excited about the potential for growth and transformation, taking meaningful steps to address social challenges, one solution at a time.

In the dance of time, from The Greatest Generation's echoes of resilience to Millennials-Gen Z's digital fervour, are we crafting a new symphony or uncovering an ageless melody—bound by challenges, united by an unyielding spirit? Each generation emerges, adorned with its peculiarities, and from these nuances springs the tale of humanity. From the stoic resilience of The Greatest Generation to the present crescendo of Millennials and Gen Z, each cohort crafts a unique melody, resonating through the corridors of history. The Greatest Generation, born between 1900 and 1927, faced the crucible of the Great Depression and the prelude to World War II, numbering 63 million souls in a world marred by economic desolation and the looming shadow of war. In the epoch of the internet and computer systems, Millennials, born from 1981 to 1996, a technology-friendly cohort of approximately 72 million, embarked on a journey marked by digital innovation. Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, a congregation of around 70 million, emerged amid the surge of internet and social media, weaving their narrative in the interconnected realms of cyberspace—a tech-addicted generation crafting its tale. The symphony of The Greatest Generation, a composition by Julia Kagan, reveals a harmony of resilience and challenges. Through the cacophony of the Great Depression and the battlefield echoes of World War II, they emerged as driven, patriotic team players. Yet, the challenges were profound—industrial production plummeting by 47%, GDP crashing by 30%, and an unemployment rate surpassing 20%. The symphony also echoed the banking panic, the reverberations of the gold standard, and the haunting cadence of the Smooth-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930. In the tapestry of Millennials-Gen Z, a new symphony unfolds. They, too, are a generation of resolve, marked by the baptism of the 2008 recession. Their era resonates with low-paying jobs, staggering college debts, and an immersion in the digital realm, leading to technology addiction. Discrimination echoes across borders, and the weight of caring for ageing parents joins the melody. The dissonance of reduced human interaction, the resonance of cultural cancellation, and the haunting echoes of substance and mental health issues form the lyrical landscape. In the shadowy realms of contemplation, I ponder the juxtaposition of these generational tales. The Greatest Generation, with its challenges, found solace in political will, a leaner population, and a unified national ethos. As the cosmic baton passes to Millennials-Gen Z, their era, marred by the aftermath of the 2008 recession and the tempest of COVID-19, becomes a stage for unprecedented challenges. Yet, as if poised for this cosmic dance, Millennials-Gen Z, buoyed by technology and social media, rise to the occasion. The echoes of their inclination to technology become a lifeline—work from home, transcontinental exchange, and electronic fund transfers emerge as a symphony of resilience. However, a shadow dances in this symphony. The internet, a double-edged sword, exposes them to moral manipulations, trust abuses, and bullies. Yet, resiliently, they fight back, forging their path. In the quiet musings, I implore governments to embrace this generation. They are not a problem to solve but a force to be nurtured. The legacy they craft is not only for themselves but a platform for the generation already in their formative stage, watching, seeing, and hearing. As the generational baton dances through time, we stand in an era where knowledge burgeons. Yet, amidst this pursuit, Millennials-Gen Z yearn for collaboration, a bridge between generations. Their offering to the world echoes—a Revolutionized Greatest Generation 2.0. They are not only driven, patriotic team players but also resourceful, innovative, and globally linked. In this symphony of generations, let us recognize the potential of Millennials-Gen Z to chart a new course. They beckon, not as rebels, but as architects of societal change. Governments, lend an ear, for within this generation lies the key to a mutually beneficial course for society and the world. In conclusion, as the cosmic ballet unfolds, let us acknowledge the melodies this generation has to offer—a harmonious blend of passion, innovation, and global connectivity. The Revolutionized Greatest Generation 2.0 emerges not as a myth but as a living testament to the power of human will and the symphony of resilience echoing through time.

I have always been guided by my passion for education, leadership, and a strong commitment to making a meaningful impact in STEM and Business. This journey began during my high school years at Louisville Girls High School in Nigeria, where I developed a love for learning and an unwavering determination to excel. As an international student from Nigeria attending Florida Southern College, I've had my share of challenges, including transitioning to a new educational system, navigating complex U.S. immigration regulations, and adapting to a different cultural environment. My ambitious nature, coupled with my love for learning, have been crucial in overcoming these hurdles. In 2022, my passion for leadership and community engagement led me to participate in the Global Citizen Year Academy Leadership program. This experience exposed me to diverse perspectives and deepened my understanding of the importance of making a positive global impact. FSC lacked an active international community and now, I serve as the Programming Chair of the Multicultural Student Council and the International Student Senator of the FSC Student Government Association which have allowed me to advocate for international students' interests and bridge the information and opportunity gap between international and domestic students on campus. I co-created an initiative called "Mafita," which means "solution" in Hausa. Mafita's mission is to empower young people to address local and global issues, inspiring entrepreneurship and change-making while providing solutions for "regular" people. We've hosted a kids' summer program, fostering open dialogue and encouraging individuals to engage with pressing issues. My commitment to Mafita and my role as International Student Senator have made a huge impact on my understanding of myself and other people. As a first-generation Nigerian immigrant, I understand the sacrifices in place for my being here. One thing I would like to see undergo a revolution is the educational system in Nigeria, particularly its economic and political aspects, which significantly impact the education of children and youths. Nigeria, a nation with immense potential and abundant resources, faces a multitude of challenges, and one of the most pressing is the state of its educational system. The economic situation in Nigeria is characterized by stark disparities, with a small percentage of the population amassing wealth while the majority struggles with poverty and lack of access to quality education. This economic inequality has a direct impact on the educational opportunities available to children and youths. Many are deprived of access to well-equipped schools, experienced teachers, and necessary learning resources. The political situation in Nigeria further compounds these challenges. Corruption, mismanagement of resources, and a lack of political will to prioritize education have left the educational system in a state of disrepair. The allocation of funds to education remains inadequate, resulting in overcrowded classrooms, outdated curricula, and a lack of essential infrastructure. The consequence of these economic and political factors is a generation of young Nigerians who face significant barriers to accessing quality education. Many talented and eager minds are left without the opportunity to develop their potential, perpetuating a cycle of limited opportunities and unrealized dreams. I would like to see a revolution in Nigeria's educational system, where economic and political reforms prioritize and invest in quality education for all children and youths. This revolution would involve a comprehensive overhaul of the education sector, including increased funding, improved infrastructure, and the recruitment and training of competent teachers. It would also entail a commitment to addressing the root causes of economic inequality to ensure that all children have equal access to educational opportunities. Furthermore, I believe that initiatives like Mafita, which I co-created, can play a vital role in this revolution. Mafita seeks to empower young people with the knowledge and tools they need to address local and global challenges. By educating and mobilizing the youth, we can create a groundswell of support for educational reforms and hold policymakers accountable for their actions. In conclusion, a revolution in Nigeria's educational system, with a focus on economic and political reforms, is essential to ensuring that all children and youths have access to quality education. This transformation would not only break the cycle of limited opportunities but also unlock the potential of a generation, fostering innovation, economic growth, and social progress. It is a vision I am deeply committed to and passionate about, as I believe that education is the key to a brighter future for Nigeria and its young citizens.

Title: Empowering Change: Mafita's Mission to Tackle Social Challenges I am Onyinyechi Colette Charles-Azike, and I am deeply passionate about addressing the social issues that affect my community in Nigeria. My journey has led me to co-create an initiative called "Mafita," which is dedicated to providing awareness about local and global challenges while offering practical solutions that ordinary individuals can implement to make a positive impact. Mafita is more than a project; it is a movement that aims to inspire, educate, and empower teenagers and young adults to become active change-makers. In Nigeria, a nation brimming with potential, the reality is often a stark contrast. Despite its abundant resources, millions of people struggle with issues such as poverty, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. I firmly believe that positive change can be initiated by individuals, regardless of their age or background. Mafita was born out of this belief, with the mission to address these pressing social issues. Mafita's primary objective is to create awareness about the challenges that impact our local communities and the world at large. We recognize that awareness is the first step towards meaningful change. Through various mediums, including workshops, seminars, and social media platforms, we strive to provide teenagers and young adults with knowledge about the issues we face, fostering a sense of responsibility and engagement. One key focus of Mafita is to encourage ordinary individuals to be part of the solution. We firmly believe that everyone has a role to play in addressing social challenges, no matter how young or inexperienced they may be. Our initiative equips young people with the tools and knowledge they need to make a difference, even with limited resources. Mafita provides practical solutions and actionable steps that can be implemented by teenagers and young adults. We offer guidance on how to get involved in community projects, advocate for change, or support local organizations addressing these issues. Our goal is to inspire a new generation of active citizens who are passionate about creating positive change. My commitment to Mafita is deeply rooted in my experiences and aspirations. Having witnessed the challenges faced by my country and my community, I feel a profound sense of responsibility to contribute to finding solutions. My experiences, such as transitioning from primary school to a new boarding secondary school and confronting the harsh realities of my homeland, have shaped my determination to make a difference. I have learned that challenges do not define us; our responses to them do. Through my academic pursuits in STEM, I have gained valuable skills and knowledge that I can apply to address these issues effectively. Mafita allows me to leverage my technical abilities and leadership skills to inspire change in a meaningful way. As a co-creator of Mafita, I aspire to see our initiative grow and make a lasting impact. We aim to expand our reach to more teenagers and young adults, empowering them to become informed, engaged, and proactive citizens. We envision a future where the youth are actively involved in addressing social challenges, creating a ripple effect of positive change throughout our communities. In conclusion, Mafita is more than a social initiative; it is a movement that empowers teenagers and young adults to address specific social issues in Nigeria. Three defining experiences have shaped my journey and molded me into the person I am today. Each of these encounters imparted valuable lessons about self-confidence, determination, and the significance of empathy. The first experience marked my transition from my primary school, where I was a shining star, to a new boarding secondary school. In my primary school, I excelled academically, shone as a talented sprinter, and enjoyed a vibrant social life. I basked in the spotlight and possessed unwavering confidence in my abilities. However, my life at Louisville secondary school was a stark contrast. Academic challenges loomed, I failed to secure a spot on the school's main track team, and I grappled with forming new friendships. My outgoing and friendly nature earned me the label of "famzer." This transition underscored the importance of self-confidence and self-appreciation, regardless of one's background. I gleaned the lesson that settling for being a local champion was not enough, and I resolved to pursue excellence. The second experience led me to grapple with the state of my home country, Nigeria, as it celebrated its 60th independence anniversary. The stark realities of Nigeria's struggles were impossible to ignore. Despite its immense potential, the nation seemed to be regressing. It was disheartening to witness the challenges faced by Nigerian youth, who aspired to opportunities in a country where leaders often appeared out of touch with their needs. This experience instilled in me the importance of determination and the power of choice. I recognized that I could either stand out or settle for mediocrity, and I chose to strive for excellence in the face of adversity. The third experience, seemingly simple yet profoundly impactful, occurred on my mother's 44th birthday. She asked me to capture photos of her in celebration. However, her dismay upon seeing the pictures was a stark reminder that our appearances can be deceiving. On that very day, I received news that a close friend had lost her father. The stark contrast between my mother's concerns and the profound grief experienced by my friend underlined the power of love and empathy. It served as a poignant reminder that people around us may be grappling with their own silent battles, hidden beneath the surface. This experience led me to consciously become a more supportive friend, offering encouraging notes and words of comfort. These three pivotal experiences have greatly contributed to my personal growth, both spiritually and academically. They have fortified my determination and amplified my ability to dream big. While I may not always be in tune with the latest trends or popular culture, I have learned that my actions possess a ripple effect, impacting not only myself but also those around me. I take pride in the progress I have made and the person I have become, shaped by these transformative experiences.

My unique contribution to making mental health care affordable and accessible stems from my passion for community and my experience as an immigrant in America. With a deep-seated commitment to mental health advocacy, I aspire to become a philanthropist and establish a social initiative dedicated to the mental well-being of immigrants. I have started in my own way, by being the International Student Senator at the SGA and also the Programming Chair for the Multicultural Student Council, aiming to provide what i consider the most important part of educational spaces: a supportive and safe community. Recognizing the challenges that immigrants face in navigating a new culture, language, and societal expectations, my initiative aims to provide accessible and culturally sensitive mental health support. This program would offer a platform for immigrants to connect, share their experiences, and access affordable mental health resources. By creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, we can break down the barriers that often deter individuals from seeking help. Moreover, I envision collaborating with mental health professionals, utilizing technology, and community partnerships to make these resources readily available. My unique contribution is not only a testament to my commitment to addressing the mental health needs of immigrants but also reflects my unwavering dedication to fostering a more inclusive and supportive community for all who seek assistance.

In July 2022, my life took an unexpected turn when my mother's commitment to self-improvement ignited a journey of personal growth for my sister and me. This journey began with the creation of a daily schedule to structure our days and incorporated the reading and reviewing of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers" by Sean Covey, a gift from our grandmother. While I initially embraced the routine with enthusiasm, the discipline required to stick to it was tested as weeks passed. The early mornings and the rigid schedule began to feel like constraints, but I persevered. Additionally, we started reviewing the concepts from Martin Meadows' book, "365 Days with Self-Discipline," further enhancing our personal growth journey. Balancing virtual classes and portfolio preparation with this new routine was challenging, but I remained determined. Being a very ambitious child was difficult for my parents considering our financial background but i learnt to create opportunities for myself where there are none. Striving to break stereotypes and generational limitations, my curiosity and passion for learning led me to take a gap year after high school, a transformative period in my life. During this time, I enrolled in a Women Techsters Bootcamp by Microsoft to learn the basics of Data Science. I also applied for and participated in various impactful programs, such as the Take Action Lab, the Global Citizen Year Academy Leadership program, and the Ascend half-year program by the School of Humanity. These experiences broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of global issues, aligning with my aspirations to make a positive impact on the world. Beyond formal education and program participation, I devoted my time to researching important topics, creating content for my social initiative, and honing my fashion and culinary skills. This holistic approach to self-improvement instilled in me a mindset to "be the change." While the journey hasn't been easy, it has equipped me with the skills and determination to make a meaningful impact on a global scale. Now, as I pursue my studies in Computer Science with a focus on AI and machine learning, accompanied by a minor in data analytics and entrepreneurship, I envision a career that combines cutting-edge technology with social impact. Nigeria The most enthralling thing about the country is her diversity. The nation has proven herself as one with numerous faces. Nigeria inspired me to become an architect.why? The rich culture of the nation is a big factor. There is a rampant cry for civilisation but in the rush it is so easy to completely wipe out ones culture. Home to over 250 ethnic groups, The Niger Area is gradually losing the one thing that stands people out—their identity. Becoming an architect would help me design traditional infrastructure with more long lasting implements. This would help the country in so many ways. Then there's the failing economy. It is easy for one to point fingers at who may or may not have caused the problems; from the leaders who enjoy playing God to the led who are bent head firm in mediocrity claim it is fate—destiny! But in truth the country is undeniably beautiful. Nigeria has many state of the art natural sites. It encouraged me to base off my choice of career not on what others consider lucrative but on what I feel would save my nation. The recreational centres, tourist sites. A few housing units that hold strongly the Nigerian heritage. And also the designing of infrastructures that fit well into our soil type and weather condition, merging beauty with efficiency. Or maybe I chose to be an Architect just because I want to do all I can to save the bits left of Nigeria.
