God has granted me endurance, strategy, strength, and awareness in life. My faith in Christ Jesus will put me in career positions to spread the gospel.
God has helped me endure a time line I didn’t know was mine. I immediately got involved in college after high school. I came into college with dual credits. I obtained an academic and athletic scholarship and proceeded to compete and train for two years in collegiate track, during my freshman and sophomore year of college. During this time, I built volunteer hours with my track team. I established the Warriors in Christ Association, a place where students could talk about Jesus. It still stands to this day.
In the midst of managing full-time school, attending athletic practices and meets, working as a restaurant server during breaks and adding the work of ministry my circumstances changed. My car broke down, I burnt out, caught Covid-19, and got injured back-to-back. My Covid-19 experience led to a newfound passion for functional nutrition, despite my setbacks.
With endurance I correctly finished both semesters to later transfer schools. God gave me strategy on how to transfer. I continued to build community service hours at a local garden, kids summer college camp and vacation bible school . I thought I would graduate by now, I surrender time in his hands he knows the way.
With strategy I have found, I am an aspiring registered dietitian that knows what she has to do. I am working on a Bachelor of General Studies degree Concentrated in Science. I will have to get a Master of Nutrition degree and take a state test to obtain my license to practice. I am passionate about food systems, sustainable practices, permaculture, food management and correct marketing to help create wholesome lifestyles.
I found strength on August 2nd, 2025. My paternal grandmother's stage 4 ovarian cancer led her into internal organ failure. I started school on August 25th. From August 2nd to September 19th my family and I unexpectedly became her support. We became her hospital visitors, her caregivers, her doctor visit advocates, and her cooks. My family and I buried my grandmother on September 19th. My relationship with God and a body of believers helped me through that hard time.
With awareness receiving this scholarship will help me reach my goal. My goal is to obtain a degree and graduate by Fall 2027. There is hope for a masters degree and license to help people and make an impact.
Amber D. Hudson Memorial Scholarship
My college adversity led me to the practice of nutrition. My sophomore year I accomplished something great, then I burned out, caught covid-19, and got injured back-to-back. This experience led me to the world of nutrition. Where food systems, sustainable practices, permaculture, food management and correct marketing began to unravel. My experience showed me integrative medicine is possible for a college kid like me. When everything was falling into place I began to fall in love with science and more in love with God. I have concluded nutrition is a universal language. I want to build tables that enemies can sit at. I aspire to become a registered dietitian specializing in functional nutrition catered to women, athletes, low-income families, and general consumers.
As a college student athlete I faced barriers with food options, because of the cost that comes with living on campus. The meals were consistent, but sometimes food allergens would be included in the pasta, the stir fry dish, or an omelet. There were more soda options than water options and food poisoning was common. If the cafeteria closed after practice, some athletes did not eat. Student athletes don't have consistent autonomy on food options, because of constant traveling. Not all colleges have consistent nutritionists or dietitians, I believe this gap can be filled.
I lost my grandmother to stage 4 cancer last September. As I watched her die, I saw the importance of balancing foods, which is found through nutrition. I became more aware of the silent labor of grocery shopping, rinsing, cutting, cooking, and storing. Sick people don’t always have energy for the silent labor that comes with the gift of food. Community meal preparation through networking can fill the gaps for sick patients during treatment. She wanted a supplement routine and was handed hospice medication instead. Supplements can become a developed option. During this time my other grandmother got a double mastectomy due to returning breast cancer. She was given nutrition shakes during her recovery. Nutrition matters in chronically ill patients. Integrative medicine involves seeing the whole person.
I want to help educate people on how to execute nutrition. On this journey I have learned nutrition does not look the same for people in different states, at different ages, with different ethnicities and heritage, at different times. The diversity of nutrition is complex, but where there is diversity there is strength. This can be accomplished through 1:1 consultations, virtual options, food delivery, and body tracking tools. I aspire to teach people about their bodies, so they don't feel helpless. I don't expect a car mechanic to know the human body; the same way a mechanic doesn't expect me to know my car functions. I observed in the western hemisphere nutritional deficiencies surface through obesity and the eastern hemisphere nutritional deficiencies can surface through malnutrition. I think authentic food brands and ambassadors can help balance the paradox on a global perspective.
I am still learning and being proactive. This summer I am working on sharing allergen friendly desserts to the community through monthly markets. I grocery shop for people. I have acquired perseverance, work experience, financial skills, CPR certificate, food handler certificate, community service work, wellness tips. I embody excellent organizational skills, oral communication skills and critical thinking skills.
Receiving the Amber D. Hudson Scholarship would enable me to finish my bachelor's degree. The economy is changing, I am the firstborn daughter with younger siblings that have college soon, and I’m far from idle. This scholarship can help me share the truth that nutrition is possible. With gratitude I say thank you for this opportunity.
Charlene K. Howard Chogo Scholarship
My effects on women’s empowerment is found in many arenas. Throughout my years of childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood I have found creative ways to empower women of all ages. In middle school my mother announced she was expecting her 3rd and final child. As the firstborn daughter I initiated, throwing my mom a surprise baby shower at just 10 years old. I silently met with one of my aunts to plan this baby shower. With Pinterest we choose a theme, activities and more. I eventually had to tell my mom, because we needed more money. My mom finished the baby shower, but she was glad I started the event in honor of her womb and sacrifices.
In middle school I competed in competitive dance for a year. I served as the designated hair braider and influential dancer. In high school I competed in basketball and track and field graduating with 7 varsity letters and the opportunity to run collegiate track and field. During this time I also helped braid different teammates' hair before games on the bus. In basketball I led prayer for games and gave sound advice in practices. I was the 6th man on the team, so I wasn’t starting 5, but I was the 6th that brought a bang. In this role I spoke on the bench to keep the team lifted up and played many forward positions in the game. I taught girls how to play basketball, during our annual basketball summer camps. In high school I was the community designated hair braider, everyone got their hair done by me. Through expressing these different talents I could speak to women, encourage women and listen to women.
In college I kept my college track teammates encouraged. If they needed a shoulder to cry on while I was there, women came to me for biblical advice, and I kept people uplifted through tiktok videos that reached millions of views for humorous clips. During my time at my first college I got the opportunity to encourage young women into leadership roles that they might have overlooked or disqualified themself from the opportunity. After transferring, my second college experience has enabled me to keep women uplifted in gym environments.
I have been presented new opportunities to uplift women through praise dance ministry member, as single women's ministry leader, serving in all black women group that promotes community service and social gatherings, get on the new school's track team. In complete transparency, I said no to these opportunities, because I'm learning more about women's health. Did you know there are more men's health studies, than there are women's health studies. Instead of getting comfortable after transferring, I have been fighting to stay productive in new arenas that can help change the nation or next generation.

Perseverance. I immediately got involved in college after high school. I attended Indiana Tech University located in Fort Wayne, Indiana my freshman year 2022 and sophomore year 2023 of college. I obtained an academic and athletic scholarship and proceeded to compete and train for two years in collegiate track, during my freshman and sophomore year of college. During this time, I volunteered at the 2022 and 2023 Autism Awareness walk with the Indiana Tech Track and Field team, worked as a productive student athlete involved in clubs and later established a Christian Association. I established the Warriors in Christ Association as the first secretary and cofounder (pioneer). My circumstances changed during the fall semester 2023. In the midst of managing full-time school, attending athletic practices and meets, working as a restaurant server during breaks I burned out, caught Covid-19, and got injured back-to-back. I began to have severe car troubles, as well. I used the tool of perseverance. I correctly finished both semesters to transfer to Indiana University Kokomo (IUK) in spring semester 2024. My Covid-19 experience led to a newfound passion for functional nutrition, despite my setbacks.
Wisdom. I am an aspiring registered dietitian that knows what she has to do. I believe nutrient dense food is a basic human right that can become more obtainable in time. I aspire to make food feel functional. To educate people about the human body and equip them with functional eating practices and tips. I am grateful for general studies, because it enables me to build a strong foundation of science and creativity. With general studies I can use science for food sustainability, nutrition measurements, and food production. I can use mathematics for management. The soft skills from general studies help me remain rational in stressful situations and harness critical thinking skills. General studies enable me to use artistic approaches for media and marketing through videography and photography. It equips me to think creatively for the integrative medicine approach that I will need in the future. I am consistent, confident and clear in my studies and community work.
Strong. After transferring from Indiana Tech to Indiana University of Kokomo (IUK) my community service work grew. I started volunteering at the City of Refuge Community Garden/Farms in Kokomo. I worked at the Summer 2025 IUK Kids College Camp. This experience helped me obtain a deeper understanding of IUK and showed middle school students that college opportunities are possible. I was employed during this time, as well. My circumstances changed. I began the 2025 fall semester here at IUK with 11 credit hours. August 2nd, 2025, my paternal grandmother's stage 4 ovarian cancer led her into internal organ failure. I started school on August 25th, 2025. From August 2nd to September 19th, 2025, my family and I unexpectedly became her support. We became her hospital visitors, her caregivers, her doctor visit advocates, and her cooks. I took my grandma to her last cancer oncology doctor's appointment. The entire experience felt like unexpected physical labor and emotional weight. My family and I buried my grandmother on September 19th, 2025. My relationship with God and a body of believers helped me persevere through that hard time.
Aware. Receiving this scholarship will help me reach my goal. My goal is to obtain a degree and graduate by Fall 2027. I plan to do this by passing 1 summer class, 2 classes during fall semester, 2 classes during spring semester, 2 classes during summer break, 2 classes during fall semester to graduate Fall 2027, despite my setbacks.
In conclusion, I have been a student athlete, established an association, transferred schools, created countless budgets, remain employed, experienced sickness and grief. I have 33 credits (9 heavy classes) to obtain a Bachelor of General Studies degree Concentrated in Science. I am an aspiring registered dietitian. Overall, I have less than $6,000 left. Future Green Leaders Scholarship
"I'm done throwing away seeds", I said to myself as I pocketed my apple seeds. Why are we still throwing away seeds? We eat the apple, throw the seeds away or deem them as a choking hazard. We eat a banana and throw the skin in the trash before it hits the invisible compost bin, leaving recycling companies to sort through trillions of decomposing fruits and vegetables. We should make small scale composting possible for the general public in a practical and gentle manner.
I am an aspiring registered dietitian, and I don't think fear mongering the public with global warming statistics will fix the problem. I think equipping non health science, medical, agriculture, and permaculture professions with daily endeavors will contribute to the change. Every car mechanic needs a nutritionist; the same way every nutritionist needs a car mechanic. This statement emphasizes resources are not the issue for current society, stable representation of the information is the issue. There is also, misinformation about what food is in present day. The more clarity people obtain on food the better their eating habits, cooking habits, and sharing habits will become. When we change, the physical earth changes. I see making recycling and composting a consistent reality is all this generation needs. We all need food and we all need food to grow well.
Sustainability should be a priority in the field of dietetics and nutrition, because the profession requires food grade plastics, gasoline for shipment, refrigerators for food storage, food grade safe cleaning chemicals and architecture to hold everything together, literally. Renewable energy for transportation and storage can create change. Infusing small scale and large-scale natural eating systems can bring balance within this profession. Minimizing environmental toxins food is exposed to can change the allergies present people face daily. Mandating sugar decreases can change the future of people's blood sugars. Working through discrimination can continue to encourage others to share their cultures tips and tricks. How we eat should be sustainable, because humans need food. It's not an opinion, it's a fact.
I see myself sharing creative solutions to change the unsustainable issues. I see myself equipping people with the ability to see the bigger picture of food systems, both natural food systems and the current manufacturing food systems. I see we don't get to pick apples off trees anymore. We have to get transported to the store with a personal or public vehicle, reliant on gasoline to grab an apple, purchase the apple, wash the apple, and then eat the apple for the sake of capitalism, economy, income, and pesticides. These 4 concepts all serve a purpose, but at what cost? I won't remove the grocery shopping process but rather ensure other options to obtain food are present to bring balance.
I could change how restaurants throw away food, create a food brand with biodegradable packing, host learning summits with starter kits, teach how to meal prep, share ideas for free, bring solutions to eating disorders, simplify complex food science, plant a tree that people can eat from, maintain safe spaces for people with food allergies, make medicines with non-wasteful practices, create a cure for diabetes, and abolish high blood pressure are ways I could help reduce the environmental impact in my profession. That's a lifetime's worth of work, the possibilities are endless.

I immediately got involved in college. I attended Indiana Tech University my freshman year 2022 and sophomore year 2023 of college. I obtained an academic and athletic scholarship and proceeded to compete and train for two years in collegiate track, during my freshman and sophomore year of college. I support the cause of using athletics as a method to pay for a college education. I lived it. I also stand for the cause of creating spaces for all people to study the Bible as Christians. I stand for the cause of representing Christianity as following Jesus Christ, rather than a legalistic religion built on works, instead of faith.
My burnout, injury and Covid-19 experience led me to a newfound passion for integrative medicine and nutrition. I transferred to Indiana University of Kokomo. I am an aspiring registered dietitian entrepreneur or nutritionist entrepreneur. I am working on a Bachelor of General Studies degree concentrated in science and math with a minor in nutrition. I want to use food systems, sustainable practices, permaculture, food management and correct marketing to help create wholesome lives. I believe nutrient dense foods don’t have to be classified. These principles are important to me, because food will help fuel the next generation of children. These principles are important to me, because we have made what's simple complex. The dynamics around food bring people together in fellowship. I believe a different plate don't need a different table.
Jesus is my hero, because he died on the cross for all of my sins and rose on the third day. He became what I couldn't become, a savior for all of humanity.
I don't have an intelligence problem; I have a short on money problem. Receiving a scholarship will help me reach my goal, despite many setbacks I have encountered. My goal is to obtain a degree and graduate by Fall 2027. I plan to do this by passing 1 summer class, 2 classes during one semester, 4 classes during one semester, and 3 classes during one semester, then graduate Fall 2027, despite my setbacks. In conclusion, I have been a student athlete, established an association, transferred schools, created countless budgets, managed work, experienced sickness and grief. I have 33 credits (11 classes) to obtain a Bachelor of General Studies degree concentrated in science and math with a minor in nutrition. I am an aspiring registered dietitian entrepreneur or nutritionist entrepreneur. My maximum budget from FAFSA is $31,000. Overall, I have less than $6,000 left. I need help to purchase my remaining 33 credits (11 classes) for a degree. I would love to receive your help on this journey.
