Bio
I'm a Computer Engineering student at the University of Virginia with a passion for building technology that creates real-world impact. A high school valedictorian and CCNA/CompTIA Network+-certified technologist, I founded an AI-enhanced publishing business at 16 that generated over 400 orders in its first year. My technical experience spans AI/ML systems, networking, and full-stack development — from building a custom RAG-based literature chatbot to leading a hackathon team at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. A national semi-finalist in CyberPatriot and an accomplished math competitor, I combine sharp analytical thinking with an entrepreneurial mindset. I'm currently pursuing my B.S. in Computer Engineering at UVA with a minor in General Business.

In 2021, only 20% of teens knew how to code. I was surprised by this since programming is the fastest-growing field in the country, and you'd expect it to have many young learners. To address this, I decided to start writing eBooks and make YouTube tutorials for beginners learning how to code—and researched how AI can be used as a learning tool. While the eBooks and tutorials were alright, I couldn’t stop thinking about what I had discovered in my research—AI is NOT a good learning tool for coding. I was dumbfounded when I found this out. If ChatGPT can create paintings in the style of Vincent Van Gogh, it must be able to help teach programming. This issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible because education is the foundation of the innovations happening in our world—but it’s not available in many parts of the world. I want to take full advantage of the opportunities this scholarship will provide to research and develop AI that can help people learn. I plan to research deeply into the intricacies behind AI and learn how it can be used to enhance modern education and provide it to those who can’t access it. While my research shows that AI falls short as a teacher, I want to contribute to the development of AI that doesn’t just give answers but acts as a companion—engaging with students and mimicking human teaching.
Education is fundamental in our society. Without it, we’re unable to unlock our full potential, leaving us astray in our fast-growing world. As mentioned, education is not available in some parts of the world as it is in the US. This is why this issue is crucial. Education should not be a luxury only available to those who can access it but a right that should be available worldwide. While the exponential growth of technology can greatly advance our world, it also poses the risk of widening the gap between those who have access to education and those who don’t. This is where I see the potential of AI—AI that’s able to provide education not just to those who can access it, but to those who can’t.
My journey will be driven not only by this scholarship, but by the belief that education is necessary for meaningful progress. I hope to help research & develop AI as a learning companion, breaking barriers in education to form a more equitable society. Doing this allows everyone to reach their full potential and paves the way for meaningful change worldwide. To me, this isn’t just a personal goal; it’s a mission to provide education worldwide to shape a more equitable and innovative society.
