Growing up in a religious family, my faith has always been an integral part of my life. In addition to attending church every week, I have been actively involved in youth groups and community service activities, which have helped to shape my spiritual growth and development. My faith has taught me important lessons about integrity, respect, and selflessness that have shaped my high school experience and the person I am today. Prayer is an important part of continuing to grow in faith. Through prayer, I can focus on my relationship with God and express my gratitude for his blessings. I set up an automatic transfer from my checking account to the savings account, so that I was consistently adding money each month. Am an African origin from Nigeria in the west of Africa on the Gulf of Guinea. Nigeria is one of the countries in west Africa that is rich in culture, agriculture, entertainment, and oil. Nigeria has the largest population in Africa. There are many tribes in Nigeria, of which I belong to the Yoruba tribe. The first person from my family who migrated to the United States here was my father. Life in Africa became so difficult for him as a pupil teacher, he then decided to travel to look for a greener pasture. This landed him in the United States, specifically in Indianapolis Indiana. After my father was settled he sent for me to join him. This is how I came to this country. My father later bought a house in Decatur Township and we moved inn. According to my father life in the United States at his arrival was not easy as he thought before he came. He could not find a job because he did not have a green card and social security. He had to struggle for about two years before he was granted a legal status to stay and work. Another difficulty he faced was language barrier. He had a deep accent which made it difficult for people to understand him. This also made it difficult for him to find a job. Most often, immigrants are seen as less privilege in society, especially Africans. We are looked down upon and are seen as people who come from other planet. Often, some people in the Western world who knows nothing about Africa always see Africans as inferior. I never thought I would be able to be here today with my parent's support, even since I have been here for 4 years now, things about me and around me have changed so far. Not everyone has the chance as I do, many people struggle to be here in the United States but they never gain that chance. Why? Because It wasn’t easy as it seems So me standing here today means so much to me as a child of my lovely parent and I appreciate their care and support for me and I hope to read them in the future with better responsibility.
