Bio

My name is Oluwademilade Ajibola, and I am passionate about making a positive impact in both my community and the healthcare field. As a nursing major, my life goal is to become a compassionate and skilled nurse who not only provides excellent care but also advocates for underserved populations. I believe healthcare is a human right, and I’m committed to using my education to bridge gaps in access, education, and support--especially for those who often feel overlooked. I’m most passionate about service, leadership, and growth. Whether I’m volunteering, or organizing events for student organizations at my school, I always lead with heart and purpose. Every opportunity to serve allows me to build stronger connections and bring people together across cultures and backgrounds. I believe I’m a great candidate because I am driven, community-focused, and determined to succeed--not just for myself, but for everyone I hope to support in the future. I take pride in my academic achievements, my leadership roles, and my willingness to learn and grow. This scholarship would not only ease the financial burden of college but also allow me to keep focusing on what matters most: helping others and becoming a force for change in the world.

      Olivia Wilson Memorial Scholarship
Nursing to me is not just a career, it is a calling that comes from compassion, resilience, and service. My name is Oluwademilade Ajibola, and I am an undergraduate pre- nursing major at Fayetteville State University, an HBCU that has become a second home to me. My journey toward becoming a nurse is both personal and purposeful, inspired by my desire to be a source of comfort and strength for people at their most vulnerable moments. Growing, I often witnessed the challenges people faced in accessing basic healthcare. I saw family members rely on overburdened hospitals and under-resourced clinics, and I felt a deep sense of responsibility to be part of the solution. I carried that mission with me--to serve, to uplift, and to heal. As a rising sophomore, I’ve maintained a strong GPA and thrown myself into opportunities that allow me to grow both academically and personally, including volunteering at my university’s Counseling and Personal Development Center. At the center, I assist with wellness events and help connect students to resources that support their mental health. This experience has been eye-opening. It showed me how emotional well-being and physical health are deeply connected--and how nurses often stand at the intersection of both. It also reminded me that representation in healthcare matters. Students often open up more easily when they feel seen, heard, and understood. This is especially true for people of color, who are often underrepresented in the healthcare field and underserved in the system. That’s why becoming a nurse is so meaningful and important to me. I want to be more than a caretaker--I want to be an advocate. I want to be a nurse who not only checks vitals and administers medicine but also brings comfort, understanding, and human connection into each interaction. I want my presence to remind patients, especially Black patients, that they matter. That their pain will not be dismissed. That they deserve dignity in their care. The story of Olivia Wilson touched me deeply. I see her legacy not just as a memory, but as a call to action. She was cared for by compassionate nurses during her illness, and I hope to follow in their footsteps. My dream is to eventually become a nurse practitioner and open a health outreach center that offers affordable care and education in communities that need it most--whether in the U.S. or back home in Nigeria, where I am originally from. I believe healthcare should be a bridge, not a barrier. Receiving the Olivia Wilson Memorial Scholarship would not only help ease the financial burden of my education--it would also affirm that I am on the right path. It would be an honor to carry Olivia’s legacy forward by making a difference in the lives of others, one patient, one family, and one moment at a time. I am ready to listen. I am ready to learn. And most importantly, I am ready to lead with heart. Through nursing, I plan to leave this world better than I found it--because every life, like Olivia’s, deserves care that is excellent, equitable, and full of grace. Thank you for considering my application.
