      Growing up, I had the unique privilege of being the child of a special education high school teacher. It wasn't just a job for my mother; it was a calling, a mission to make a difference in the lives of her students. Oftentimes, I would accompany her to her students' events or bump into them while she was at work, and these experiences left an indelible mark on my heart. My mother's unwavering commitment to her students was nothing short of awe-inspiring. She dedicated herself to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student felt valued and empowered. Her classroom was a safe haven, a place where differences were celebrated rather than stigmatized. I vividly remember the vibrant artwork and motivational quotes that adorned her classroom walls, serving as a constant reminder of the boundless potential within each student. Attending her students' events was a regular occurrence in our household. From talent shows to sports competitions, my mother was always there, cheering on her students with unbridled enthusiasm. The pride in her eyes as she watched them perform was palpable. It was as though their successes were her own, a testament to the countless hours she had invested in their growth and development. One particular event that stands out in my memory was a theater production that featured some of my mother's students. The excitement and nervousness in the air were tangible as the curtain rose. The students, some of whom faced significant learning challenges, delivered flawless performances. As the final curtain fell, the audience erupted into thunderous applause, and my mother's face lit up with pride. It was a moment of pure magic, a reminder that with the right guidance and belief in oneself, anything is possible. In addition to attending events, I often crossed paths with my mother's students while she was out in the community. Whether it was at a local grocery store, a park, or a restaurant, her former students would approach us with beaming smiles and warm hugs.       As I embarked on my journey toward a career in teaching, I was well aware that my path would be unique, laden with challenges that others might not fully comprehend. Having grappled with a panic disorder for a significant portion of my life, I was no stranger to the obstacles that anxiety could place in my way. However, rather than allowing these challenges to deter me from pursuing my dreams, I used them as stepping stones to shape my character and solidify my determination to become an educator. Starting in my freshman year of high school, panic attacks would strike unexpectedly, sending my heart racing and my thoughts spiraling into a vortex of fear. It seemed as though I was always bracing myself for the next wave of unease to wash over me. While many would shy away from situations that triggered these episodes, I was resolute in my refusal to let anxiety dictate the course of my life. As I navigated through school, I adopted coping mechanisms that helped me manage my panic disorder. Deep breathing, mindfulness, and seeking solace in supportive friends became essential tools in my arsenal against anxiety's grip. These experiences profoundly shaped my decision to pursue a career in teaching. Witnessing the transformative power of education, both in terms of academic knowledge and personal growth, I was inspired to provide a safe and nurturing environment for students who might also be battling their internal struggles. When researching colleges I knew that I wanted to push myself by going to a university outside my home state of Massachusetts. I decided on the University of Connecticut to challenge myself to become more independent when separated from my family. The demands of higher education can be overwhelming for anyone, and they pose a particularly daunting hurdle for someone grappling with a panic disorder. The pressure to excel academically while managing the unpredictable nature of anxiety was no small feat. There were moments when panic threatened to derail my progress, but I leaned on the coping strategies I had developed over the years.
