Bio

Hi! My name is Olivia and I hope to use these scholarships to help with my college costs. I will be attending St. Francis University to major in Psychology, with a minor in Social Work. I want to become a therapist in hopes of working at a VA hospital. My passion is helping people and I want to be able to make a career out of it. I am very passionate about being able to help those who have served our country! Music therapy and the training of therapy dogs are two major interests of mine and with the help of these scholarships I will be able to follow those aspirations. I trained my Labrador for her Canine Good Citizen and hope to do the same with more dogs in the future so they can be a comfort to people. I love to read, I play piano, guitar and mandolin when I have spare time. I am also a hitter for my varsity volleyball team and a base for my varsity cheer competition team. I love animals, volunteer service and working hands on in my community!

My name is Olivia Miller, I am a senior at Venango Catholic High School, and will be attending Saint Francis University to major in psychology and minor in social work. I am a mental health advocate and a high school senior planning to attend university to major in psychology and social work. My journey through mental health struggles and trauma has made me extremely passionate about this healthcare field. I was helped by a therapist through my struggles with depression, anxiety and paranoia. Now, I want to become someone who helps people through hard times. Learning more about psychology and the different fields and kinds of therapy, I found there are different styles to fit the person. This is very important to me as I found EMDR fits me best and I want to be able to help people using these unique kinds of therapy instead of only talking. Mental health has greatly affected my beliefs in both a worldly view and a religious view. People need to know that they are cared for and what options they have. Seeing how many people don't believe therapy is necessary and how much ridicule someone gets for going breaks my heart. There needs to be more acceptance for those who attend therapy as well as those who want to go into the field. There is too much of a stigma around seeking help and mental health issues. Also, seeing the lack of staffing, funding and empathetic employees in many communities makes me want to go into the healthcare field more. There needs to be more work put into mental healthcare fields, especially for veterans and low-income communities. Helping these people who need the most help is why I want to go into this field and change lives for the better. Many of my family members were not supportive of me when I went to therapy as they found psychology to be a useless study. This has affected my relationships with some of my family and how close I am to those who are against therapy. I've also been able to bond with people who are currently in therapy or have been and how much it has helped. That's been very good for me to find people like me who had to go through therapy and aren't ashamed of it. That's why I want to help people get rid of the negative connotations of mental health issues. Too many people, especially men, have to avoid the topic of their mental health to avoid sounding weak which is extremely wrong. Stereotypes around mental issues are upsetting and old-fashioned, there needs to be more people willing to talk about it and why help is needed. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.

My name is Olivia Miller, I am a high school senior focused on pursuing higher education. I participate in volleyball, competition and basketball cheerleading, National Honors Society, and choir, as well as being the student council vice president. My volunteer experience includes working at my local fish fry and helping at a carnival for Alzheimer's patients at Christ the King Manor. Also, I have worked for Clarion County's Veteran Picnic and the local library book sale. I was a member of the Civil Air Patrol for five years and have been working as a waitress to save up for my education for three years. This would include my undergraduate, master's and hopefully one day my doctorate in clinical psychology. With this, I hope to become a therapist, or clinical psychologist, for United States veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress. This is such a huge passion of mine as I have family and friends who have served or are currently serving in the military. It's horrific that so many veterans do not get the help they need when it comes to mental health, and I want to be there for them. Mental health is vital and these people need access to proper care and support which many veterans do not receive. I love to serve and help other people so this job would be very important to me. To achieve this goal of being able to help people and have the degrees necessary to do this I need help paying for my schooling. Good schooling and higher education are very expensive, and I am very thankful to have support from my family when it comes to school. Yet, I don't want to be a burden on them nor do I want my goals to have any financial impact on them. I am receiving help from my family for my undergraduate degree at Saint Francis University where I hope to double major in psychology and social work. My master's and doctorate degrees in clinical psychology are on me with the help of student loans and scholarships. This is going to be quite expensive, especially with the current economic state of our nation. With this understanding, I know I am going to need as much assistance as possible in paying for school as possible. This scholarship opportunity would be very helpful, so I don't have to take out as much in student loans. I greatly appreciate this opportunity to be able to apply for such a generous scholarship, thank you for your consideration.

My name is Olivia Miller, I am a mental health advocate and a high school senior planning to attend university to major in psychology and social work.

Book Lovers Scholarship
My name is Olivia Miller and if I could have everyone in the world read one book it would have to be The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It says a lot about humanity and it is written extremely well. The novella is very intriguing and keeps the reader interested. It's not too hard to read, but it also makes you think about the duality of man. The novel is unique and has been the inspiration for movies, musicals and cartoon show episodes. It shows both the good of man and the bad, while also giving a different view on humanity itself. The story can be taken in different ways as well, whether people believe Jekyll is the victim or the antagonist of the plot. What can also be interpreted is the description differences of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. People do not recognize them as the same person after reading both of their faces and body language, showing they are two completely different people, in a sense. Hyde's "deformity" was also caused not only by the change in self but also by his actions making him an ugly person. It shows the dangers of humanity and how one person's actions affect other people. This novella has very dark topics, but I believe it's important for people to read it. The storyline is relevant and important to society on how one man's decision affects his future and other's lives. This is one of my favorite books and I encourage everyone to read it.
    Aspiring Musician Scholarship
Music has shaped the way I view the world by connecting songs to the little things in life. When I listen to a song I can see what it reminds me of and feel the new surroundings and it's a beautiful experience. It is always amazing to be able to feel a different way with each song whether it's instrumental or has vocals. Each genre has such an amazing way it was created and it helps me be able to resonate with the songs in the genre. I love to hear how other people create songs and that they are based on real experiences. Music has always been there for me when people haven't and it's helped me to cope with traumatic experiences. It makes a person feel less alone when an artist can put a person's feelings into music and present it to the world. No matter what the song is, why and how it was created, all music is sacred to me. Everyone feels it a different way and takes something different out of it. Music is so individual you will never find someone with the exact music and song taste as yourself. That is very special to me because it shows each person's individuality and how they may express themselves. In this sense, there truly are no bad songs only different tastes and preferences. I love and appreciate music and musicians because of this reason. They make each person feel unique and heard, when a community comes together for this music it's such a wonderful sight and sound. Whether is classical, theater, pop, heavy metal or R&B, music was created to fill silence with beauty. That is the way I have always seen it and it helps me be able to feel the songs better. It's euphoric to listen to a heavenly song for the first time. Then, when you listen to it over and over again in your head it makes everyday life feel as if it is a different world. I feel better once I listen to music and it makes the day a little bit brighter. This life isn't always delightful or exciting, but music is one of the few joys in this world that doesn't go away or boring. There is always something new when looking for music and there will always be musicians putting their ideas of the world around them into sound. That's what it is, vibrations creating sound. Yet, music is the most exquisite and perfect metaphysical beauties in this life. That is why it is important to me and that is how it changes the way I see the world.

VonDerek Casteel Being There Counts Scholarship
My name is Olivia Miller, I love music, animals and reading. I am going to be a first-generation college student on both sides of my family. I am currently a high school senior at Venango Catholic High School and a dual enrollment student at Saint Francis University. I am Vice President National Honors Society and Cadet Chief Mastersargeant in the Civil Air Patrol. I also play volleyball and am a base in my varsity cheerleading team. In these programs, I get many amazing opportunities for leadership, team building and volunteer work. I've developed many small hobbies over the years and I thoroughly enjoy piano, guitar, violin, singing and watercolor pencils. They've helped me be find what calms me down and I want to help others find hobbies that fit them too. I hope to get my bachelor's in psychology and social work, and then get my master's in clinical psychology to become an EMDR therapist. A possibility in the future would be to get my PSYd doctorate once I get my masters and therapist license. I want to attend University to become a therapist to help people that were like me and struggling. Being able to help people is such a big passion of mine that I want to make a career out of it. I deserve this scholarship because I am very dedicated to being able to help people through a career in psychology. The money would be put into a good school, most likely Saint Francis University, and a committed student. This Scholarship will help me to make this career possible and to help levy the tuition of the University I want to attend. It would help my family and me to be able to afford my undergraduate and master's and at an amazing accredited University. When I was starting high school I found myself lonely, depressed and anxious. I began to heavily contemplate suicide before going to therapy. It helped me so much to discover who I am as a person and that I matter. Being able to help people through whatever life throws at them is a career that even though taxing, would be very rewarding. I chose this career field after being helped and I was able to work through my trauma. So many people need an empathetic person to help them as well and I want to be that person. The different focuses in this field have changed over the years, but working in the field of mental health is still my main focal point. Thank you for your consideration of this scholarship.
    “The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
I resonate with Stanley from "The Office" because, like him, I wish I was a therapist, although unlike Stanley it is to be able to help people. He also minds his own business but cares about the people around him. He is reserved and humble, even if it isn't always shown. He makes me laugh with the one-liners and I appreciate his character. "The Office" has shaped how I see the world and workplace dynamics. I've learned to find the jokes in little things even in serious times and it's shown me how to make my own fun in a dull environment. I've been able to bond with people over "The Office" and it brings a little more joy in life being able to discuss favorite characters and episodes with friends. My coworkers and I can laugh about who's who in the show and how we would respond to certain situations in the series. I've been able to find a laugh in the workplace and picture what it would be like to work in a different field. Seeing the characters in the show bond over the years as my coworkers and I have has been extremely touching. I greatly appreciate this scholarship as this show has been a staple in my show watching over the years.
