Hello! My name is Obeaney and I am a first-generation Haitian-American undergraduate nursing student at the University of Massachusetts Boston. My future nursing goals are to ultimately become a Certified Nurse-Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, providing compassionate care and expertise in women's health throughout all stages of pregnancy and life. I believe what sets me apart is my engagement in health advocacy work both within and outside of the hospital. Through my fellowship with several grassroots organizations, I have demonstrated a commitment to promoting health equity. Many have highlighted my compassion and dedication to promoting equity across many communities in need within the state of Massachusetts. I am eager to bring this knowledge and perspective into my nursing career, translating my public health advocacy work into meaningful contributions and using that same voice on behalf of my patients within the hospital setting. In my free time, I enjoy studying French, Spanish, and American Sign Language. I solidified my French fluency last summer during a month-long intensive course at the Catholic Institute of Paris. I also enjoy playing volleyball, an interest that peaked in high school during which I won Division Player of the Year and was captain of our team which came 2nd in the state championship.

  Mission:

  The UDH Services is founded upon the principle of helping underprivileged Haitians to attain fundamental services that they otherwise wouldn't be able to obtain for. They understand the lack of specialization within the country and work to change this by providing the essential funds. While volunteering at this organization, I help Haitian students immigrate to the US in order to study medicine. Sponsoring these students not only benefits their future but also the future of the entire country. When they return, they will provide medical services with knowledge from some of the most prestigious universities in the United States. This eliminates the problem of sickness in Haiti and leads to the individual growth of the students and the overall growth of the country.

  Mission:

  This church-based philanthropic group was founded to ensure the well-being of everyone within the church community and the city itself. We work to eliminate the issues that displaced people face, uplift the elderly, provide assistance to the church, spread the word of God, and do anything else within our power to make the lives of those in our community better. As the President, it is my duty to ensure that we fundraise well enough to generate thousands of dollars which we then distribute back out to those in need. Under my leadership, there have been several charitable traditions that are expected to be upheld such as funding shelters for sex trafficking victims, participating in the March For Life, making stuffed animals for children with cancer, blood drives, and renovating the church itself.

  Mission:

  During the duration of this internship, my main responsibility was to emphasize the notable things the Mayor has done for the City of Somerville. I accomplished this through door-to-door canvassing and phone banking in which I was able to personally connect with voters. Being an outlet for them to voice their concerns to know that I would ensure they reached the Mayor made me realize the importance of communication between the government and its governed even at the local level.
