Bio

My name is Nyzail Jones, and I am an incoming freshman at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where I plan to major in Cybersecurity. As a first-generation college student, I am committed to protecting individuals' digital identities and financial assets. My passion for cybersecurity was ignited when a scammer defrauded my grandmother over the phone, motivating me to ensure others don't endure similar hardships. Throughout high school, I maintained a 3.4 GPA while engaging in various research projects. Art has been a significant part of my life; I enjoy drawing cartoons, anime, and holiday-themed pieces that adorn my grandmother's home. My commitment to public service is evident through my volunteer work as a fill-in cook/griller at AME church events, visiting nursing homes, and mowing lawns for the elderly in my community. My grandmother's unwavering support, especially in enrolling me in a private school to address my speech impediment, has been a cornerstone of my journey. Despite personal challenges, including limited parental involvement, I have learned the value of hard work from my father's dedication as an auto mechanic at Walmart. Looking ahead, I aspire to specialize in cybersecurity, with interests in 3D modeling and creating custom skateboards as a side venture. This scholarship will not only alleviate financial burdens but also empower me to achieve my academic and professional goals, ultimately enabling me to give back to my family and community. I also love playing video games :)

Empowering My Community Through Cybersecurity, Creativity, and Compassion as a Young Black Man who grew up with is grandma. Growing up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges that many in my community face, from digital vulnerabilities to limited access to creative outlets. As I prepare to embark on my college journey at Fayetteville State University, majoring in Cybersecurity, I am committed to leveraging my skills and experiences to make a tangible difference in my community. One of the pressing issues I've observed is the lack of awareness and protection against cyber threats, especially among the elderly. A personal incident where a scammer defrauded my grandmother over the phone highlighted the urgent need for cybersecurity education. To address this, I plan to organize workshops at local community centers and churches, educating residents on recognizing and preventing cyber scams. By simplifying complex cybersecurity concepts, I aim to empower individuals to safeguard their digital identities and financial assets. Beyond cybersecurity, I have a deep passion for the arts, particularly drawing cartoons, anime, and holiday-themed pieces that bring joy to my grandmother's home. Recognizing the therapeutic and unifying power of art, I intend to initiate community art programs where individuals, especially youth, can express themselves creatively. These programs will not only nurture artistic talents but also serve as constructive outlets, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. My commitment to community service is rooted in my experiences volunteering at AME church events, visiting nursing homes, and assisting the elderly with lawn care. These interactions have taught me the value of compassion and the importance of supporting our elders. I plan to expand these efforts by coordinating regular visits and assistance programs, ensuring that our senior community members feel valued and cared for. Furthermore, my collaboration with my uncle on resolving software bugs using Angular has sparked an interest in technology's potential to drive community development. I envision creating a platform that connects volunteers with community members in need, streamlining assistance and fostering a culture of mutual support. In conclusion, my goal is to harness my education, artistic talents, and technological skills to address the multifaceted needs of my community. By promoting cybersecurity awareness, fostering creative expression, and enhancing community support systems, I aspire to build a safer, more connected, and vibrant Fayetteville. This scholarship will be instrumental in equipping me with the resources and knowledge to turn these aspirations into reality.
