I am Nyela Jackson Davis, a rising senior at Spelman College, majoring in Sociology with a minor in Public Health. My journey is driven by 1 passion: promoting healing and wellness in marginalized communities by addressing health equity.
My past and current experiences have shown me that small, genuine efforts can create significant impacts. Through my leadership as a Community Service Chair organizing food distributions and youth mentorship, I have learned firsthand that large-scale equity is not possible without small-scale community building and grassroots organization. It is crucial to ground our work in these everyday, real human perspectives to develop truly inclusive and effective solutions.
At Spelman, I bridge quantitative research with community advocacy. As a Research Assistant analyzing birth outcomes, I code health data and utilize both quantitative and qualitative methods to capture the nuances of individual human experiences. Engaging with legislators at the Georgia State Capitol regarding healthcare access has clarified the political process for me, highlighting how policy decisions and votes directly impact the daily health outcomes of our neighborhoods. My ultimate career goal is to dedicate myself to public health program evaluation and implementation, designing solutions that turn data into tangible and structural healing.
I believe in stepping outside of my comfort zone and trusting that passion and determination will take you exactly where you want to go.
Thank you for viewing my profile and supporting my journey!
