Over quarantine, my depression had brought me down to an all-time low. My medications weren't working, and I spent every day feeling like there was no objective need for my existence. I hit my turning point one day when I saw an ad on Instagram for magnets. I impulsively bought them, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I became obsessed with how little I knew about magnets. I even spent my whole summer learning everything I possibly could about the invisible mechanisms that work together perfectly in order to allow our existence. I was staying up past sunrise every day, learning as much as I could before I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. I love that we know nothing about gravity, or why it comes from mass. We have no explanation for it on the quantum level, and I constantly think about it. Quantum Gravity. I currently have almost filled up an entire notebook on my theories and their mathematics, especially on Quantum Gravity, and even modifications to General Relativity. This is my reason for getting out of bed every morning. I want my existence to be a contribution to our understanding of the universe. I realized that my life won't have a purpose unless I give it one. I would have never guessed, but I really needed those magnets.

Amplify Green Innovation Scholarship
The man I look up to the most throughout history is Nikola Tesla. I hope that one day, my impact on society will have a significance comparable to his. Over the summer, I built half a dozen prototypes for perpetual motion using magnets (which all obviously failed) as an attempt to create a mechanism producing renewable energy. I am not ashamed to admit my failures, because I have learned much more by failing than by getting lucky and succeeding. Since 9th grade, I have come up with countless designs and ideas for renewable energy. Besides Quantum Gravity, imagining new forms of renewable energy occupies most of my thoughts during my free time. I hope one day, we are able to rely on one, singular way of harnessing energy that is accessible to anyone, and harmful to no one.
Giving Thanks Scholarship
I have many people to be thankful for in my life, but there is no one who has done more for me than my mom. I sometimes jokingly call her "Mother Teresa" since her first name is Teresa. But there is more truth to this nickname than there is humor. She always felt it was her calling to help and nurture others. She has been a nurse for over 30 years now and has loved every second of it. She has always encouraged me to never be satisfied with what I already know, but instead, to keep asking questions and never accept any truths that I didn't believe. She is my reason I have maintained an abnormal amount of curiosity about the world around me. Even though she is an extremely faithful member of the church, she can always entertain any abstract idea about the universe that I have with an open mind. She has always believed in me and accepted me for who I am. She has helped me through numerous medical battles and has always been able to tell me how to fix whatever my body is going through. She knows me better than I know myself. I don't know where I would be without her. I couldn't imagine a better mom, role model, or even friend. I love her with all my heart.
