Manchester Animal Shelter — General Support

Homeward Bound Pets Humane Society Veterinary Technician Scholarship
Throughout my life I have always wanted to make a change in the world of animals. I have always believed in speaking up for those who cannot do it for themselves, and always prioritizing animals and there well being. In 7th grade, I put a fundraiser together for a school project in support of Canine Commitment, a small non-profit rescue in my town. I prepared healthy homemade dog treats, and sold them in my town, ultimately raising lots of money for food, and other supplies for Canine Commitment. Since then I have always wanted to volunteer at a local shelter, and I am now volunteering at Manchester Animal shelter. Though I am yet to be 18, so I cannot interact with the animals directly, I am volunteering as general support until I am old enough to work directly with the animals. I am also currently in a College Composition class, in which we have to write a 15 page research essay on any topic we are passionate about and find interesting. I did my essay on the evolution and detriments of animal testing and experimentation, in the age of media and technology. This has also led me to currently putting together a petition and protest against my high school, due to the inhumane sourcing of cats for my Running Start Anatomy and Physiology class. My obsession with health, medicine, and obviously animals is deeply rooted in how I was raised, growing up with many rescue dogs, and my current dog Peter, who has become my best friend. I have always wanted to go into a field where I could directly benefit the lives for all animals, as well as work in a healthcare environment. I have decided on veterinary technician for many reasons, but my main reason being my passion for medicine and bettering the world. There can sometimes be a bad stigma about Vets, and Vet Techs that they are harsh, and sometimes rude, and my main missions is to prove to people that we are here to do our best to help, and take care of our four legged friends. I also want to go into Veterinary Tech, because I eventually would like to pursue Veterinary Medicine, and getting my Vet Tech degree would let me be experienced with hospitals, while also still working, before I decide to go full on Vet. My last reason being that eventually my life goal is to open a non profit rescue in which would raise awareness for the over breeding, and lack of homes for all the animals in the world, since people want specific breeds. Veterinary Technician has always been a dream of mine, and I hope you consider me for this scholarship.
