From the moment I first stepped onto the stage in middle school, I knew theater was more than just a song and dancing around on stage, it was leadership, communication, and connection, which is how I view the quote "One Heart, One Beat" targeting collaboration and the unity that the arts allows for young aspiring performers. Over four years in the International Thespian Honor Society, I’ve worked to grow in not just acting, but the collaboration, empathy, respect and discipline that come with it. The Performing Arts careers mission to develop leaders who challenge the present and make the future happen aligns perfectly with the lessons and goals I’ve acquired throughout my life in theater.
I am part of the Academy for the Performing Arts housed at Morris Knolls High School. APA is an audition-based program for students pursuing dance, theatre, and vocal performance. In this community that values diversity and creativity, I’ve taken on lead and supporting roles, directed and produced shows, and assisted with technical theater. Each honor has helped with my understanding of storytelling’s power to move audiences and connect with a community.
Leadership in theater often happens offstage. As President of my schools Thespian Honors Society, I’ve led service projects bringing performances to schools and outside locations, using art to connect people from all backgrounds and interests. As a student ambassador and social media coordinator, I’ve promoted the Academy for the Performing Arts at MK to ensure the arts remain visible and valued. On top of this, serving as a NJ State Thespian Officer advocating the importance of the arts.
Academically, I’ve balanced twelve AP and Honors courses, achieving my highest GPA throughout high school, a 97.0, during my most demanding year. This year, I am enrolled full-time at the County College of Morris to earn dual credit and prepare for college-level independence and experiences.
Due to my mom being hospitalized for over a month due to three strokes and a diagnosis of RCVS, she has been unable to work and I have seen the mental toll it has taken on her everyday since it happened. I was with her one day in her hospital room watching Pitch Perfect with her, a fan favorite, and just this film alone was able to bring her so much joy and energy. She even started kicking her feet and singing along to the riff-off performance. Whether you realize it or not, music and performance brings everyone together, and allows for a much happier and healthier life, putting a smile on everyones face that gets the privilege of experiencing it. Theater gives voice to untold stories and challenges audiences to see differently. In my time as a performer, I have explored how performance can inspire change, promote empathy, and celebrate diversity, continuing to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, loved and connected.
