I was once told to be a light in someone's dark world. With being told this I always wondered when I was younger what to become, and it struck me to become a nurse. With being a nurse you can be that little bit of hope your patient needs to find a bit of joy battling their disease or illness. I always knew since I was younger I wanted to make an impact on someone's life and what better life to make an impact on than a kid. I want to be able to work with kids and give them the smile they deserve in the hospital.
I have earned my license in practical nursing straight out of high school, which has allowed me to utilize the art of nursing with children. When deciding on a field of nursing it has given me no doubt to be able to work with little children and give them something to smile about. Throughout my elementary and middle school years, I was bullied for various reasons and knows how it feels to be hurt as a little kid. Knowing what I have been through with my experiences I know I want to make an impact on the children I will see as a nurse.
Pediatric Nursing is one of the hardest branches of medicine due to the concerned parents, the changing of anatomy and physiology, and the communication barrier with children with their diagnosis. I want to welcome this challenge with open arms and stand up to the challenge by having my patients be able to tell a story of how I was always there. Pediatric patients have been my choice of nursing because I have always had a special place in my heart for children. With me being 20 I have always been a child at heart sitting at the children's table at holidays, playing hide and go seek at events with kids, and even volunteering to babysit any chance I get. The only option this gives me is to branch into pediatric medicine to help change lives for the better. I have always been told that I will make a great pediatric nurse due to the caring and patience I possess as a person. The person I want to be in the future is working in a Saint Jude Hospital making kids with detrimental illnesses have simple moments of joy when I am working with them.
