Work ethic, to me, is the combination of responsibility, effort, and attitude that a person brings to everything they do. It’s not just about working hard when someone is watching—it’s about showing up consistently, taking pride in your work, and pushing yourself to improve even when things get difficult. As a high school senior preparing to graduate and attend auto trade school, I’ve come to understand that work ethic will play a major role in shaping my future. Throughout my life, I’ve learned that a strong work ethic isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build over time. School has helped me develop this by teaching me how to manage deadlines, stay organized, and keep going even when I feel overwhelmed. There have been times when assignments piled up or motivation was low, but choosing to stay disciplined instead of giving up has made me more confident in my ability to handle challenges. Being involved in cross country and track and field has also had a huge impact on my work ethic. The sport requires dedication, consistency, and mental toughness. Early practices, long workouts, and pushing through fatigue have taught me that improvement doesn’t happen overnight. Whether it’s trying to beat a personal record or supporting my teammates, I’ve learned the importance of effort and perseverance. Track has shown me that success comes from putting in the work every day, even when no one else sees it. As I move into the automotive field, I know that work ethic will become even more important. Working on vehicles requires patience, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn from mistakes. It’s not always easy to diagnose a problem or fix something on the first try, but having a strong work ethic means sticking with it until the job is done right. In a trade like this, your reputation depends on how reliable and dedicated you are. Customers and employers need to trust that you’ll do quality work and take your responsibilities seriously. In my daily life, I try to practice good work ethic by being dependable and putting in effort, whether it’s in school, sports, at home, or in part-time work. Even small habits, like being on time, staying focused, and finishing what I start, help build a foundation for success. I’ve realized that work ethic isn’t just about big achievements—it’s about the small, consistent choices you make every day. Looking ahead, I plan to carry this mindset with me into trade school and my future career. I want to continue growing, learning new skills, and proving to myself and others that I can be counted on. To me, work ethic is one of the most important qualities a person can have, because it influences not only your success but also the kind of person you become

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by how things work—especially cars. When I was younger, I was the type of person who would take things apart just to see how they fit together again. I was drawn to the sounds of tools, the smell of oil, and the sense of accomplishment that comes from fixing something with your own two hands. Watching others work on cars and seeing the pride they took in their craft made me realize that this wasn’t just a hobby or a curiosity—it was something I wanted to dedicate my life to. That’s how my passion for the automotive trades began. For me, working in the automotive industry is about more than just repairing vehicles; it’s about solving problems and helping people. Every car that comes into a shop has a story, and every driver depends on that vehicle to keep their life moving. When someone brings in a car that won’t start, it’s not just a mechanical issue—it could mean they’re struggling to get to work, pick up their kids, or handle daily responsibilities. Knowing that I can use my skills to get them back on the road safely gives me a sense of purpose and pride. That feeling of making a difference, even in small ways, is what motivates me to keep learning and growing in this field. The automotive trade also excites me because it’s constantly evolving. Cars today are more advanced than ever before, and new technology like hybrids and electric vehicles are changing the way we think about transportation. I’m eager to learn everything I can—not just about traditional mechanical systems, but also about the latest innovations that make vehicles safer and more environmentally friendly. I want to be part of the future of this industry, helping to bridge the gap between classic automotive craftsmanship and modern technology. Beyond the technical side, I’m also passionate about using my career to give back and make a positive impact in my community. Skilled trades are often underappreciated, yet they’re the backbone of our society. I want to help change the way people view trade careers, especially among younger generations who might not realize how rewarding and meaningful this kind of work can be. One day, I hope to mentor students or apprentices who are just starting out, sharing what I’ve learned and encouraging them to take pride in their skills. I want to show them that success doesn’t always come from sitting behind a desk—it can also come from building, fixing, and creating with your own hands. Ultimately, pursuing a career in the automotive trades isn’t just a professional goal for me—it’s a personal mission. It allows me to do what I love, challenge myself, and make a real difference in the lives of others. I believe that through hard work, honesty, and a commitment to quality, I can build a career that not only provides for my future but also helps others along the way. Whether it’s keeping a family’s car safe, supporting cleaner technology, or inspiring someone else to follow their passion, I want my work to matter. The automotive trades give me that opportunity—and that’s why I’m so passionate about pursuing this path. Quite a few people have influence me to pursue the automotive career. However, the most important one would be my dad. He is always out in our barn work on his cars and asking me to help him. Our bond has grown over the years restoring an old car that we have been working on.
