Leadership and science are two pillars of progress. Innovation is the backbone of problem-solving, which helps people overcome challenges and creates new paths to success, happiness, security, and peace. Leadership is the fuel for innovation; without leaders to spearhead the projects of the future, efforts toward progress would be futile. Science is the highway for innovation, the means by which solutions can be devised. For example, breakthroughs in communication technology, such as the creation of the internet, have created avenues for people from every part of the world to connect and collaborate. This has brought each individual closer together and is a step toward understanding and cultural tranquility. Moreover, science fosters a mindset and develops abilities that transform society. The study and practice of science requires an ability to think critically, which is imperative to the growth of civilization. Not only does the ability to think critically allow for the creation of new inventions, solutions, ideas, and methods that further humanity's conquest toward a better future, but it also promotes the mutual understanding between people that permit a peaceful society. The open-minded exchange of ideas and the intent to understand different perspectives is necessary for a brighter future, and those who study science serve as an example to the rest of how critical thinking encourages this bright future. Leadership is just as important to the same end. Leaders encourage, inspire, enable, and provide for critical thinkers to make way for a better future. Inspiration serves as a catalyst for progress, but also has a benefit that is more unquantifiable and intangible. Inspiration fosters a sense of happiness and fulfillment. A society with an abundance of leaders is a society with an abundance of happiness, as a leader's ability to inspire can help give a sense of purpose to an individual. When someone finds this sense of purpose, it motivates them to be their best self. As I look toward the future, I pray that everyone can be inspired by someone, and everyone can find a leader to look up to; the motivation that comes from a leader is essential for creating an ideal future. As leadership and science work in tandem, I know that we will be able to shape a future we can be proud of. I am so excited to pursue higher education in science so that I can be a part of shaping this future, and I'm optimistic about what can be accomplished. As leadership uses science to fuel innovation, critical thinking, mutual understanding, peace, and progress will flourish.
