Bio

I am a single mother, a domestic violence survivor going through a divorce with 2 little kids. I want a better life for myself and kids. I went back to school last year because I was told I can't. I want to be a CPA, publish my first book (in a manuscript), and be a successful entrepreneur. I am my own support, dropped out of the work force to pursue my school goals and to most importantly attend to my oldest kid with special needs. I pray to get favored on this platform because I am seriously struggling financially, trusting God for supernatural provisions.

From Broken Crayons to Brighter Horizons: Resilience, Responsibility, and the Promise of Accounting. The symphony of my life has been an off-key melody, punctuated by the harsh notes of domestic abuse, financial hardship, caring for a special needs child, and the disharmony of homelessness. These experiences tested me, threatened to break me, but ultimately, they became the catalysts for my return to school and my pursuit of a degree in accounting. The scars of domestic abuse ran deep, both emotionally and financially. It forced me to flee our home with nothing but the clothes on my back and my precious sons, the oldest who has autism diagnosis. Suddenly, the single mother stereotype I once held at arm's length became my reality. Juggling multiple minimum wage jobs to survive while providing for my sons and their unique needs was a constant pressure cooker. However, even in the face of homelessness and overwhelming challenges, a flicker of hope remained. Witnessing my son's strength and resilience in the face of his own difficulties awakened a fierce determination within me. I vowed to build a future where we wouldn't just survive but thrive. The turning point came when I decided to leave the workforce, go back to school, and take care of my young kids. This lifeline allowed me to enroll as an undergraduate in accounting. Numbers, once a source of anxiety, became tools of empowerment. I reveled in the logic and structure of accounting principles, a stark contrast to the chaos I had previously known. As I delved deeper into the world of debits and credits, I discovered a passion for financial literacy. I realized that the skills I was learning could not only help me manage my own finances and future but could also empower others facing similar challenges. Today, I stand before you, not as a victim of circumstance, but as a survivor, a single mother, and an aspiring accountant. Returning to school wasn't easy, but the desire to create a better life for my 2 sons and the burning desire to help others fueled my every step. With my accounting degree, I aspire to work in the non-profit sector, specifically with organizations supporting individuals and families affected by domestic violence and similar situations. My goal is to not only provide financial guidance and stability, but to also serve as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that even amidst the broken crayons of life, one can still create a vibrant picture of success. This journey may have been forged in adversity, but it has ultimately shaped me into a resilient, responsible, and passionate individual with a clear vision for the future. I am confident that with this scholarship, I can turn the lessons learned from overcoming adversity into a force for good, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of others.

The Balancing Act: A Mother's Journey Shapes Aspirations Motherhood is a complex tapestry woven with love, sacrifice, and countless acts of juggling. As a single mother raising a special needs child and a neurotypical sibling, I have witnessed firsthand the intricate dance of balancing work and caregiving. While the daily challenges were formidable, they have ultimately shaped my career aspirations and ignited a passion for advocacy within me. Being a single parent to a special needs child presents unique challenges. My son, diagnosed with autism, requires additional support in various aspects of his life. From ensuring his educational needs are met to navigating therapies and appointments, every day is a carefully choreographed effort. Balancing these demands requires meticulous planning and unwavering dedication. Early mornings often begin with therapy sessions before my workday starts, and evenings are filled with homework and assisting my son with daily tasks. However, these challenges are far overshadowed by the significance of being his primary caregiver. Witnessing his resilience, determination, and unique perspective on life has instilled within me a profound sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to advocating for those with special needs. I have become adept at navigating the complex world of healthcare systems, educational resources, and advocacy groups. This experience has not only empowered me to be a fierce advocate for my son but has also fueled a desire to use my voice and knowledge to support others facing similar challenges. While caring for my son demands a significant portion of my time, I am also the sole provider for my family. This necessitates a demanding work schedule, often leaving me exhausted. Yet, the responsibility of providing for my children has become a source of immense strength. I have developed exceptional time management skills, honed my ability to prioritize effectively, and learned to navigate challenges with resourcefulness. These qualities, forged in the crucible of single parenthood, are invaluable assets I believe will translate seamlessly into my future career. My experiences did not deter me, it rather ignited me to pursue my passion in accounting which has being my dream career. My goal is to utilize my understanding of the needs and challenges faced by families with special needs, coupled with the valuable skills honed through my experiences, to contribute meaningfully to my community. The road ahead may be filled with challenges, but my journey as a single mother has equipped me with the resilience, resourcefulness, and unwavering commitment needed to succeed. This scholarship opportunity would not only alleviate the financial burden of pursuing my education but also empower me to fulfill my dream of making a positive impact on the lives of others facing similar journeys.
