I am a student pilot working toward my aviation degree while proudly serving in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. During my training, I graduated as a Distinguished Honor Graduate and earned the Army Achievement Medal, accomplishments that reflect the dedication and discipline I bring to everything I do.
Aviation has become more than a goal for me. It is a path where I can challenge myself, grow as a leader, and build a future that combines precision, responsibility, and passion. My military service has shaped the way I approach every opportunity, teaching me to stay committed, focused, and resilient no matter the circumstances.
As I continue my journey toward becoming a professional pilot, I remain driven by a desire to serve, to improve every day, and to push myself to new heights both in the cockpit and in uniform.

Cancer became deeply personal for me in 2023 when my girlfriend was diagnosed with epithelioid sarcoma. From that moment, everything in our lives changed. Before that, life felt more predictable and normal, but her diagnosis brought fear, uncertainty, and a constant weight that never really goes away. It was not just her fighting the disease, it became something we both carried together every single day. Hearing that diagnosis was one of the hardest moments of my life, because it made me realize how fragile life really is.
What made the situation even more difficult was the distance between us. She lives in Ohio, and I live in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Being far away from someone you love during a time like that is not easy. There were moments when all I wanted was to be there for her physically, but I could not always do that. Still, I did everything I could. There were times I drove nearly twelve hours just to spend one day with her, and then drove back. It was exhausting, but to me, it was worth every second. Being there for her, even for a short time, meant everything.
She is still fighting cancer today. She first went through chemotherapy, and now she is undergoing immunotherapy. Not much has changed in terms of the uncertainty we face. Apart from the treatments, all we can really do is hope that the medicine works and continue to stay strong through it all. That feeling of waiting and hoping is one of the hardest parts, because there are no guarantees, only faith and resilience.
Despite the distance and everything we have gone through, our relationship has only grown stronger. The love between us has not changed. If anything, it has deepened in a way that is hard to explain. She is the first person I talk to when I wake up and the last person I talk to before I go to sleep. No matter how hard the days get, we continue to support each other and stay connected. We have learned how to be there for one another, even when life feels overwhelming.
Through this experience, I have learned what real strength looks like. I have seen it in her as she continues to fight, and it has pushed me to become stronger as well. I have learned patience, because healing and recovery do not happen overnight. I have learned how to stay calm and supportive during stressful and emotional situations. Most importantly, I have learned to value time. Time with the people you love is something you cannot take for granted, because life can change so quickly.
This experience has also given me a new perspective on life. Problems that once seemed important now feel small compared to what truly matters. It has made me more focused, more grateful, and more driven. It reminds me every day why I need to keep pushing forward, not just for myself, but for the people I care about. No matter how difficult things get, I have learned to hold onto hope and to keep moving forward with purpose.

My name is Nischal Neupane, and this is my story.
I lost my father when I was five years old. He struggled with alcohol, and over time it took a serious toll on his health. He eventually passed away due to a heart attack. At such a young age, I could not fully understand what death meant, but I felt its impact immediately. The silence he left behind changed the structure of my family and shaped the direction of my life.
After my father’s passing, my mother made a decision rooted in sacrifice and courage. She left Nepal and went abroad to work so she could support me financially and ensure that I had access to education. While she worked far from home, I lived with my grandparents. Although they provided care and stability, I grew up missing the emotional presence of my parents. That absence became a defining part of my childhood and influenced how I learned to cope with the world.
When I turned ten, I was sent to a different city to continue my schooling and lived in a hostel away from family. At an age when most children depend heavily on parental guidance, I learned how to rely on myself. This independence was not chosen but required. I learned how to adapt to new environments, manage loneliness, and remain focused on my responsibilities despite emotional distance. These experiences forced me to mature early and shaped my sense of discipline and resilience.
When my mother would visit me, I often felt awkward around her. Even now, at times, those feelings remain despite us living together. Over the years, I had learned how to function without consistent emotional closeness, and that distance became a coping mechanism rather than a reflection of my feelings toward her. I do not blame my mother. Every sacrifice she made was for my future, and her perseverance continues to inspire me.
Throughout these experiences, I navigated grief, loneliness, confusion, and emotional withdrawal. Journaling became an important outlet that allowed me to reflect and process emotions I struggled to express verbally. Meditation helped me develop patience and self awareness, teaching me how to sit with difficult thoughts rather than avoid them. Together, these practices helped me grow emotionally and build inner stability.
Eventually, my mother found a way for us to come to the United States. Life here has not been easy, but we are now away from much of the chaos and painful memories of our past. Being here represents stability, safety, and opportunity. It allows me to focus on growth rather than survival.
My motivation to pursue higher education is deeply connected to my journey. Education represents opportunity, independence, and a way to honor my mother’s sacrifices. It is also a path toward creating stability not only for myself, but for my family. I approach my studies with discipline and purpose because I understand what it means to fight for the chance to learn.
The greatest influence in my life is my mother. Her resilience, strength, and selflessness continue to guide my values. I am also inspired by individuals who have transformed adversity into purpose through education and perseverance. Their stories remind me that hardship does not define limits.
Losing my father and growing up separated from my parents shaped who I am today. While the journey has been difficult, it has taught me resilience, empathy, and determination. These qualities drive my commitment to education and my goal of building a meaningful, stable, and purposeful future.

Why I Am Passionate About Flying?
My passion for flying did not begin with a single moment. Instead, it grew gradually as I searched for a place where I truly belonged. When I moved to the United States, everything in my life felt unfamiliar. I had to learn a new culture, develop new habits, and find my own direction around things. Aviation slowly became that direction for me. The first time I sat in a small airplane and saw the world from above, I felt something I had not felt in years: clarity. It was as if the noise of life finally faded, and for the first time in a long while, I could simply breathe.
Flying gives me a sense of purpose and focus that I cannot find anywhere else. When the plane leaves the ground, everything becomes simple. You rely on your training, your judgment, and the respect you have for the aircraft. That responsibility does not intimidate me. Instead, it motivates me and pushes me to improve every time I fly.
My time in the Army shaped that passion in a powerful way. The discipline, the long days and nights, the constant pressure to improve, and the expectations to perform all taught me how to stay calm and steady even when situations become overwhelming. These qualities are essential in aviation. Flying is not about being perfect. It is about being prepared, staying ahead of the airplane, and never letting your focus drift. I feel completely at home in that environment.
I am passionate about becoming a pilot because this goal represents everything I have worked for since coming to this country. I want a career where I can challenge myself, grow, and eventually help others who begin the same journey. I want to make my family proud and prove to myself that every sacrifice I have made, including long drives to college, intense military training, and pushing through personal challenges, is building toward something meaningful.
Aviation is more than a dream for me. It is a path that brings together my background, my discipline, and my determination. Flying gives me a feeling of freedom, but it also gives me a clear sense of direction. Receiving this scholarship would help me continue moving toward the career I am committed to, and it would mean so much knowing that someone believes in the work I am putting in.

In this passage, Marcus Aurelius presents a simple but transformative idea. He argues that the emotional pain we feel during difficult situations often comes not from the situation itself, but from the meaning we attach to it. My thesis is that Aurelius is teaching us that real freedom begins with learning to master our own thoughts. When we understand that our judgments have more influence over our suffering than the events themselves, we gain the ability to navigate life with clearer minds and stronger hearts.
What immediately strikes me about this passage is its honesty. Aurelius does not deny that painful or unexpected events occur. He does not tell us to pretend everything is fine or ignore reality. Instead, he teaches that our emotional experience of those events is shaped by our interpretation. This is a powerful shift. It means that even when we cannot control what happens around us, we can control what happens within us. In a world that often feels unpredictable and overwhelming, that realization can be deeply grounding.
This idea becomes even more meaningful when applied to our everyday lives. Many times, we find ourselves overwhelmed not because a situation is truly unbearable, but because of the story we tell ourselves about it. A disagreement becomes a personal attack. A failed attempt becomes proof we are incapable. A setback becomes a sign that we should stop trying. Aurelius challenges us to examine these assumptions. He encourages us to step back and recognize that our initial reaction may not be the truth. When he says we can “revoke” our estimate at any moment, he is telling us that we always have the option to rethink our perspective.
However, Aurelius is also asking us to take responsibility for our emotions, and that is not easy. It takes maturity to admit that sometimes we add unnecessary weight to our own burdens. It takes humility to realize that our interpretation may be flawed or exaggerated. And it takes courage to change a mindset that we have grown accustomed to. Yet this responsibility is exactly what makes his message so empowering. It means we are not helpless. It means we are not prisoners of our circumstances. It means we are capable of choosing thoughts that strengthen us instead of weaken us.
There is also a deeper level of freedom in this passage. Aurelius reminds us that no one can take away our inner judgment unless we allow it. People can criticize us, disappoint us, or treat us unfairly, but our response belongs entirely to us. External events can shake us, but they cannot define us without our permission. This idea gives us a kind of quiet strength that is not dependent on the behavior of others or the stability of our surroundings. It is a strength that grows from the inside out.
Reflecting on this passage has helped me understand my own challenges more clearly. There have been moments when I felt overwhelmed by change, uncertainty, or expectations. Like many people, I have faced times where my first reaction was fear, frustration, or discouragement. But learning from Aurelius has taught me to pause before letting those emotions take full control. I remind myself to question the story I am creating. Am I assuming the worst? Am I letting a temporary moment define my entire path? Am I making the situation heavier than it needs to be? These questions have helped me respond more thoughtfully and with more resilience.
This passage is not about denying hard realities. It is about recognizing our own power. It teaches that strength does not come from avoiding challenges, but from shaping our mindset in a way that allows us to move through those challenges with clarity and purpose. Aurelius offers a challenge, but he also offers comfort. He tells us that even in moments when the world feels difficult, there is always something we can control: our interpretation, our response, and ultimately, our peace.
Understanding this has changed the way I approach both personal struggles and academic goals. It reminds me that growth often begins in the mind, long before it shows in our achievements. And it encourages me to continue developing the inner strength needed to navigate life’s challenges with calmness, discipline, and hope.

My name is Nischal, and my story is one of persistence in the face of struggle. I grew up knowing what it feels like to go without, and even now, money is one of my biggest obstacles. I’ve learned to make the most of what I have, but the truth is, every step I take toward my education feels like climbing uphill with a heavy weight on my shoulders.
When my family and I came to the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic, life felt lonely and uncertain. I was in a new country, trying to fit into a culture I didn’t fully understand, while also facing the reality that we didn’t have much to fall back on. Opportunities to socialize or make friends were limited, and instead of comfort, I found myself in isolation. Still, I pushed forward, determined not to let those circumstances define me.
After high school, I joined the Army National Guard. It was one of the hardest decisions of my life, but also one of the best. It gave me discipline, pride, and a sense of service to something larger than myself. At the same time, it hasn’t made life easy. Between drill weekends, long drives to school, and constant financial pressure, I’ve had to learn resilience in ways that most people my age may never have to.
Now, I am pursuing my college education and beginning flight training to become a pilot. This dream is not just about me , it’s about proving to myself and to my family that the sacrifices we made to come here were worth it. But flight training and tuition are expensive, and no matter how many hours I work or how much I save, the numbers never seem to add up. My weeks work worth of money gets spent in an hour. Scholarships like this one are not just financial help; they are hope.
I am not asking for something to be handed to me. I have always been willing to work harder than anyone in the room. What I am asking for is a chance , a chance to pursue my education without the crushing fear of how I will afford it, a chance to focus on becoming the best version of myself. With your support, I will continue to prove that even with little money and many obstacles, dreams are still possible with determination and perseverance.

My life an an Aviation Student
From a young age, I’ve always looked up at the sky with a sense of wonder. The sound of aircraft engines and the sight of a plane disappearing into the clouds always gave me the same feeling of freedom. Growing up, I never imagined I’d have the chance to pursue aviation myself. But as I’ve matured, especially through my time in the military, I’ve realized that discipline, dedication, and persistence can turn even the most distant dreams into achievable goals.
My name is Nischal, and I’m currently training to become a private pilot while pursuing my college education. I am serving in the Pennsylvania National Guard, and my time in the Army has shaped me into someone who thrives under pressure, values responsibility, and never gives up easily. The military taught me how to lead, stay calm in demanding situations, and pay attention to every detail and qualities that are essential for any pilot. I’ve learned that flying isn’t just about controlling an aircraft; it’s about controlling your mindset, maintaining precision, and making decisions that keep others safe.
What draws me to aviation isn’t just the thrill of flight rather it’s the purpose behind it. This is not just my dream but all the people around me. Pilots connect people, deliver hope in emergencies, and play key roles in industries that keep the world running. I want to be part of that impact. My ultimate goal is to become a professional pilot and contribute to the aviation field, possibly even flying for the military or a commercial airline one day.
However, the financial burden of flight training and education is really overwhelming for me right now. I commit to school three to four times a week, each day about three hours of driving. Scholarships like this one mean more than just financial relief, they represent trust and opportunity. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to focus more on learning and less on worrying about expenses. Every hour in the air, every flight lesson, and every study session brings me one step closer to my dream. With support, I can continue developing the skills and knowledge that will make me a safe, capable, and responsible aviator.
Aviation isn’t just a career for me, it’s a calling. It’s the perfect blend of discipline, passion, and purpose. I believe that with hard work, perseverance, and a little help from opportunities like this, I can take my dreams to new heights; literally and figuratively.

I became interested in aviation because flying has always represented more than just travel to me, it symbolizes freedom, discipline, and the chance to rise above life’s challenges. As an immigrant to the United States, I often felt like I was trying to find my place while adjusting to a new culture. It wasn’t easy. At times, it felt like I was learning to navigate in the dark without a compass. Aviation became that compass for me. The skies gave me direction, and the dream of becoming a pilot became the goal that kept me moving forward, no matter how heavy the obstacles felt.
My service in the Army National Guard gave me another foundation. There, I learned discipline, persistence, and what it truly means to push through hardship. Graduating as Distinguished Honor Graduate from Advanced Individual Training showed me that even when the road is steep, it can be climbed with effort, resilience, and belief. Those lessons from the military shaped how I approach every challenge, whether it is academic, financial, or personal.
Right now, my life feels like I am flying into a headwind. I am working toward college, flight training, and my military duties, all while helping take care of my father at home. The financial strain makes it even harder. Sometimes it feels like I’m trying to keep an aircraft aloft on just one engine—pushing harder, balancing everything carefully, and hoping not to stall. Scholarships are not just an option for me, they are my only way forward. Without them, pursuing my education and training while supporting my family would be nearly impossible.
To me, leadership is not about being the loudest or having the most authority. Leadership is like being a pilot in command: you are responsible for the safety and success of the mission, for keeping calm through turbulence, and for guiding others even when conditions are difficult. My struggles, adapting to a new country, carrying family responsibilities, managing financial hardships, and serving in the Army have taught me what leadership really means. It is responsibility. It is discipline. And above all, it is perseverance.
These challenges have not discouraged me; they have shaped me. Just as an aircraft climbs strongest against resistance, I believe my struggles have built the strength I need to succeed. With the support of scholarships, I can keep climbing, keep pushing through the headwinds, and continue pursuing my dream of becoming a pilot while supporting my family and serving my country.

My Journey and Aspirations
Life has been a series of challenges, lessons, and growth. Serving in the Pennsylvania National Guard has shaped me into a more disciplined and resilient person. It has pushed me to my limits, teaching me the value of perseverance. However, it hasn’t been easy—one of the toughest struggles I’ve faced is dealing with persistent shin splints. For months, both of my legs have been in pain, making running a challenge. But in the military, quitting isn’t an option, so I push through it, knowing that mental and physical endurance are key to success.
Aside from my military responsibilities, I’m working toward a future in aviation. Becoming a pilot has been a long-time goal of mine, and I’m about to begin both college and flight training to make it happen. However, the financial aspect of this journey is overwhelming. Tuition, flight school costs, and living expenses all add up, and I’m constantly looking for ways to fund my education and training. Right now, I’m exploring different ways to earn money online—preferably something that builds over time and doesn’t require physical labor. Digital products and passive income strategies seem like good options, and I’m determined to find a sustainable way to support myself.
Beyond my career goals, self-improvement is something I take seriously. One area I’m focused on is communication. Strong communication skills are essential for leadership, relationships, and career success, so I’m actively working on becoming more confident and effective in expressing my thoughts. Another personal challenge I’ve been navigating is my health. I’ve experienced ongoing digestive issues that might be linked to IBS or food intolerances. Dairy seems to be a trigger, but I’m still figuring out what works best for my body. Maintaining a diet that provides enough calories and protein while avoiding discomfort has been tricky, but I’m making adjustments to improve my overall well-being.
Moving to the U.S. wasn’t the easiest transition, especially since it happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Making friends and getting involved in activities was difficult with all the restrictions in place. However, I’ve learned to adapt and keep pushing forward. No matter what challenges come my way, I strive to keep progressing—whether it’s in my military career, education, personal growth, or financial goals. My journey is still unfolding, but I’m committed to making the most of every opportunity and building a future that aligns with my ambitions.
