    Cariloop’s Caregiver Scholarship
Both my past and current life experiences have prepared me to be a respected candidate for the Cariloop’s Caregiver Scholarship. My family has created the individual I have become because their made up of great health care providers; registered nurses, CNAs, and even an EMT. Being brought up around these types of personalities enforced my own mindset to be one of those who enjoys helping people heal. While growing up, I was raised by my mother and grandparents due to my father passing away from multiple sclerosis when I was an adolescent. My mother was an active member of the Air Force, which resulted in us constantly moving around until we finally settled down in Florida. During my senior year of high school my grandfather sustained an ischemic stroke. This stroke changed him suddenly from the grandpa I knew my whole life - a vibrant active man, to a completely physically dependent person that I barely recognized. His determination to heal was what kept us grounded and it was accomplished through a motivated team of nurses who cared for him thoroughly. I was truly inspired; my passion to learn and be able to care for individuals immensely enlarged. During my four years as a student-athlete at Metropolitan State University of Denver, I’ve worked as a caregiver for the elderly, making me aware of the many complexities of the body’s ageing process and the techniques that can be taught and/or learned to greatly improve their lives as they live independently. During this time, I’ve gained experience working in nursing homes and also privately with in-home care. On top of that, I had the opportunity to do team volunteer events to give back to the community. My favorite volunteer events were giving out food to the less fortunate population and volunteering at an elementary field day. My mission is to be able to equally serve each and every person no matter what, I guarantee that I will treat them all with equal respect. I do not want to have to consider their wealth, religion, gender, age, disability, documented, undocumented, nationality, clean or dirty, etc. I also aspire to work side by side with experienced, licensed Nurses, with the goal to become a fine asset to our health care system. I truly adore people and giving back to help in any way that I can. I sincerely appreciate your consideration in allowing me to apply for the Cariloop’s Caregiver Scholarship.
