Bio

My name is Nija Lawoye, and I am a first-generation professional currently pursuing a Real Estate certificate at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College while working full-time to fund my own education. My path into real estate wasn't handed to me. I built it around work shifts, financial pressure, and the kind of hustle that doesn't show up on a transcript. Every class I attend, I've earned twice: once by showing up, and once by making sure I could afford to. That reality doesn't discourage me. It drives me. Real estate, to me, is more than a career, it's a tool for change. I grew up seeing families in underserved communities locked out of homeownership, not because they didn't deserve it, but because nobody was in their corner to help them navigate it. I intend to be that person. My goal is to build enough stability in this industry to turn around and use my knowledge to help families who look like mine access homeownership and begin building generational wealth something that changes the trajectory of entire family lines. I am not waiting for the road to get easier. I am learning to be better on a difficult one. This scholarship would not just help me financially, it would validate that the sacrifices I'm making right now are part of something bigger. I am committed, I am focused, and I am exactly the kind of person who will make the most of every dollar and every opportunity invested in me.

I would not be here without God. I mean that literally. There were seasons in my life where I had no plan, no backup, and no idea how things were going to work out. And every single time, God showed up. Not always in the way I expected but always right on time. My faith is not something I keep quiet about or pull out only when things get hard. It is who I am. Jesus is my foundation. He is the reason I get up in the morning with something to work toward, the reason I kept going when everything around me said stop. I am nothing without Him and I do not say that to sound humble, I say it because I have lived it. I have seen what I look like without Him guiding me, and I never want to go back there. What gets me the most what I think about more than people probably realize is that God loved us so much that He gave His only son. His only son. For us. For me. That kind of love does not make any worldly sense, and that is exactly why it changed my life. It means before I ever accomplished anything, before I earned a single thing, I was already worth that sacrifice. Once that truth settled into my spirit, everything shifted. How I see myself. What I believe I deserve. What I believe I am capable of doing in this world. Jesus said He is the way, the truth, and the life and I have held onto that on my hardest days. When I did not know which direction to go, when bills were piling up and the road ahead looked foggy, I prayed. Not just asking for things, but genuinely surrendering. Trusting that the God who brought me this far was not going to drop me now. And He never has. Not once. His word says He will provide my daily bread and He has. Every semester I made it through, every door that cracked open, every moment I showed up tired but still present that was Him. I know that down to my bones. Going into real estate, my faith is coming with me. This career is not separate from my calling it is part of it. God placed it on my heart to go back to communities like mine and be a resource for families who feel locked out of homeownership. To sit across from people who have been overlooked and tell them the truth, advocate for them, and help them build something real. That is ministry to me. It just happens to also be my profession. I will treat every client the way God calls me to treat people with honesty, patience, and genuine care. I will operate with integrity even when it costs me something, because that is what my faith requires. And every home I help a family get into, I will quietly thank God for using me as the vessel. He is everything. This career, this education, this life - all of it is for His glory first.
      Michele L. Durant Scholarship
I grew up seeing people work hard their whole lives and still struggle — not because they were lazy, but because nobody ever showed them how the system worked. Nobody explained credit, or equity, or what it actually takes to own something. My family was that. I was that. And honestly, that never left me. I carried that with me into adulthood, into every job I worked, every bill I figured out on my own, every decision I had to make without a blueprint. Being first generation doesn't just mean you're the first to go further, it means you're building the map as you go, with no guarantee it leads anywhere. But I kept going anyway, because giving up felt like letting down everyone who came before me and everyone who might come after. Right now I'm at LATTC working toward my Real Estate certificate, paying my own way, working full time, and figuring it out as I go. Some days it's exhausting. Balancing a job, school, and the everyday financial pressure of just surviving in Los Angeles is no small thing. But I've never been somebody who quits when things get hard, because I know exactly why I started and that reason is bigger than how tired I am on any given day. Real estate is how I plan to give back. I've watched families in my community get priced out, passed over, or just flat out confused by a process that should be available to everyone. I've seen people sign things they didn't fully understand, miss opportunities because nobody walked them through it, or give up on homeownership altogether because it felt too far out of reach. I want to be the person who changes that, the agent who actually explains things, who advocates for people who don't always have someone in their corner, who helps families get into homes and start building something that lasts beyond one generation. This isn't just about a career for me. It's personal. The neighborhood I came from needs people who come back with something useful, not just a title, but real skills and real commitment to doing something meaningful with them. I'm already on my way. This scholarship helps me get there more efficiently and the sooner I get there, the sooner the people behind me have someone to call and rely on. That alone makes me feel like itll be my calling.

My name is Nija Lawoye. I am a student pursuing my Bachelors degree at Georgia State University. I was a single mother of one beautiful child and a student who struggles to make ends meet for my family and myself. I am the breadwinner for my child and parents, who are both unable to make ends meet, especially during the pandemic period. I am strong, determined, and passionate about my career, and this has made me a first-generation college student in my family. I have specific dreams which make me struggle and do every task with determination and effort. Moreover, as a single mother, I take pride in being the mentor and everything to my child as he grows up in society. I am resilient and open to the challenge that comes my way. Since an early age, I have always portrayed self-control and intelligence that have enabled me to persevere through the hardship of growing up. I have a strong will of determination that has enabled me to learn when to push and let go. Also, as a victim of verbal and physical relationships, I believe in new beginnings and hope, as everyone needs to learn when to start up fresh. My life has always been about learning, and this has been crucial in developing my resilience and positive outlook towards life. I am passionate about becoming a Forensic Science Technician as it has been my passion during highschool. I have always cared to investigate, seek justice and find opportunities of learning through expert instructions that will be instrumental in my career development. While living with my grandparents, I had to learn basic procedures of helping and caring for them, which taught me the important work that I would do. As a single mother, I am obligated to prepare a future for my son. Being a mother isa driving force in its own. My kid deserve everything, and thus, I am determined to excel in my studies and effectively provide for them all that they require. Through my career, I plan to generate wealth for them and teach them that everything is possible with determination and courage. Moreover, I am planning on opening a Forensic lab supply in the future, which will benefit the community and help those to seek justice with the help of the law. This will also be of help to me as I'll be able to exercise my expertise and provide efficiently to my child. My main challenge over the years has been working, studying, and being the best mom for my child. The COVID 19 pandemic has also been a setback for me. It has become very difficult to find a stable source of income, and those available apply to ration so that every individual is able to work. The working hours have also been decreased, making it hard for one to acquire enough money to cover for basic needs of the family. The situation has been overwhelming considering that I have to cover medical, housing, educational and overall family bills. The scholarship will be life-saving for me. I am determined to use the money to cover my apartment down payment, college materials, and food. I'll also channel the funds towards my credit payment. The money will be crucial in enabling me to go through college and achieve my dreams without having setbacks. I am also determined to spend my research and academic development, which are part of my academic activities. I am looking forward to my consideration of my application. Thank you!

Some ways to manage student loan debt include paying more than your monthly bill, sticking to a budget, considering consolidating/refinancing, looking into loan forgiveness, and exploring different payment programs. Me personally, I use all these methods. I try my best to consolidate my debt. Also, Save. If you have a longer timeline to work with, the best strategy for me was simple: I started saving. Although, I recently started Saving, it can still be as effective if you started saving earlier. My family is a low income family, I am a single mother of one beautiful child and a student who struggles to make ends meet for my family and myself. Dog Lover Scholarship
A research concluded that the bond between humans and dogs reduces stress, which is a major cause of cardiovascular problems. Dogs make us happy. In fact, even just looking at a dog can make you happier. A study in Japan in 2009 found that just staring into your dog’s eyes raises your level of oxytocin. Dogs have been human’s best friends for thousands of years. They are there for us through thick and thin. They never judge and are always happy to see us return, whether we’ve been gone five hours or five minutes. I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source. People who keep dogs live longer on average than those who do not. This is not some kind of pro-canine campaigning fantasy. It is a simple medical fact that the calming influence of the company of a friendly pet animal reduces blood pressure and therefore the risk of heart attack. Lastly, A dog is the only thing on this earth that loves you more than he loves himself.
