Bold Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
According to Hopkins Medicine, 26% of Americans struggle with a mental disorder. As someone who struggles with a mental disorder, it can get really expensive. So many people want to get help, but can’t because they can’t afford it. We need to make mental healthcare cheaper. This world has lost countless lives to suicide. Some people will start to go and get help, but when they realize how expensive it’s going to be, they stop getting the help they need. Prescription medication for it can be costly, especially for constant refills.
If someone doesn’t have insurance or good insurance, they have to pay a lot of it out of pocket. I started going to therapy for a few months and my mom would help pay for it. I eventually stopped going because my therapist was going away for a little bit. If I had kept going, I would be losing more money. A lot of people right now can’t afford most every day items. People are now reaching into their savings or emergency funds. They can’t go on that vacation they saved up for. They have to sell the car they worked so hard for. They might have to get a second job.
A few ways to fix these problems are get insurance for lower income people. Another way is to stop charging fees for everything. Healthcare has that problem too. Fixing the healthcare system can also help. Some people have delayed a surgery because they can’t afford it. Mental health is a huge problem in this world, especially in America. If something doesn’t change now, it’s only going to get worse. So many people can help change the world. If we can decrease the cost, we can decrease the amount of lives lost and it needs to happen now.
