Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
As a latino college student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Operations and Supply Chain Management, with a minor in International Business, Language, and Culture, and a Sustainable Business Certificate, I am deeply dedicated to using my education and experience to create a meaningful and sustainable impact in our world. I have dedicated my time at Georgia Tech to understanding how a businesses Supply Chain can be reimagined to promote equity, environmental responsibility and strength to communities all over the globe. My studies have allowed me to explore different aspects of countries' supply chains and have given me a strong foundation to address the challenges that are faced in these communities.
Growing up, I traveled to several towns in my home country of Colombia, where I saw the impact that supply chain had in every aspect of these people's lives. Although climate change is a much bigger topic in today's world, its impact has always existed. Through my yearly trips, I have seen the impact on the environment and the local communities daily lives. I believe through my studies and first hand experiences in local communities, I can work with companies as a supply chain analyst or consultant to help small producers in Latin America have access to global markets through ethical sourcing, environmentally conscious operations, and a transparent supply chain. My ultimate long term goal is to help create a circular supply chain where companies can employ local talent to optimize their supply chain, without the impact of the detrimental environmental effects on the local communities, as is happening in today's world.
This Woman's Worth Inc. Scholarship
As a first-generation Hispanic college student, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Operations and Supply Chain Management at Georgia Tech, has been both a dream and financial challenge.I have always believed that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. This belief has driven me to maintain a 3.9 GPA and earn a place on the Dean’s List every semester. It has also inspired me to pursue a minor in International Business, Language, and Culture, along with a certificate in Sustainable Business.Despite these academic achievements, I now find myself facing financial hardship, since I have exhausted my HOPE Scholarship and am struggling to cover the remaining costs of my education. To support myself, I have worked as a barista at Starbucks and as a data analyst with Georgia Tech’s OSP Research.Balancing work, studies, and extracurricular involvement which has strengthened my adaptability, resilience, and commitment to my career goals. Growing up, I witnessed the direct consequences of inadequate supply chain infrastructures in my mother’s hometown in Colombia. The lack of reliable distribution channels has negatively affected access to essential goods, disrupted local economies, and impacted the well-being of my relatives and their communities. These early experiences opened my eyes to the power of logistics in shaping lives and sparked a desire for me to be part of the solution.I am an active member of LASO (Latin American Student Organization) and ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America), where I’ve built a supportive network and developed leadership skills.Outside of campus, I also volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul, where I help distribute food, clothing, and other resources to families in need. This service work has deepened my understanding of the importance of efficient supply chain systems, especially in ensuring that essential goods reach vulnerable populations.I am passionate about using logistics not just to streamline business operations, but to make a tangible difference in people's lives. Receiving the Scholarship would not only be an honor, it would also serve as an utmost blessing to alleviate my financial burden and empower me to continue my education so that I can fulfill my mission of driving positive change in the supply chain sector. It would truly be a dream come true and a crucial step toward a future of service and positive community impact in my sphere of influence.
Thank you for your consideration of this scholarship to purse my dreams and further my impactful education.
