Welcome to my profile! My name is Nicole Sanz and I am a first-generation Cuban-American striving to graduate with a bachelor's in psychology and pursue a medical career soon after. Before going back to school, I took a 2-and-a-half-year gap year to decide whether or not college was for me. During this gap year, I had the privilege to gain new experiences working as an optometrist technician, working alongside optometrists. I was able to catch a glimpse of the medical field and work with patients ranging in age and the medical care they needed. With this new profound growth that this opportunity gave me, I decided I wanted to go back to school. I had the privilege of studying abroad at an Italian university during my freshman year last year. I was able to experience a new culture compared to my own and the culture I assimilated growing up. My freshman year was dedicated to creating a routine for myself while attending school as a full-time student and being across the world, far from home. After coming back home during Christmas break, I was too homesick to go back and transfer to my local community college. This decision eased the financial stress and burden it was causing for my parents and myself. After being home for the past year, I currently work as a vision therapist assistant, which has been aiding my counseling, medical, and communication skills for the future.
