      Community College Matters Scholarship
My decision to pursue education at community college was not shaped by convenience, but by resilience. As a single parent to twin boys, I have learned that every choice I make has to balance immediate responsibilities with long-term goals. Choosing community college has allowed me to build a solid foundation for my nursing career while also providing the flexibility and affordability I need to raise my children. The moment my twins were born, my perspective on life changed forever. Their arrival was filled with joy but also fear and uncertainty. Navigating postpartum recovery after a C-section while caring for two newborns at once pushed me to my limits, but it also gave me a renewed sense of purpose. I knew I wanted to create a future where my boys would always feel safe, supported, and proud of their mother. Education became my path forward, not just for me, but for them. As a single mother, I face unique challenges. There are nights when I study for exams after rocking my babies back to sleep, and days when exhaustion competes with determination. Still, every late night and early morning is a reminder of why I am on this journey. My twins deserve to grow up watching their mother overcome adversity through perseverance and discipline. My community college has given me the chance to do that while offering supportive professors, smaller class sizes, and resources that help me balance academics and parenting. Through my studies, I’ve discovered that nursing is not just a career goal, it is a calling. My own medical experiences during pregnancy and postpartum showed me how critical compassionate care can be during vulnerable times. I want to provide that same level of empathy and skill to other mothers, children, and families. Community college is the first step, but it has also shown me that I am capable of more than I ever thought possible. Looking ahead, my educational goal is to complete my associate’s degree in nursing, transfer to a university to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and eventually continue into a graduate program to become a nurse practitioner. I want to specialize in maternal and child health, using both my academic knowledge and personal experience as a mother to serve others. My ultimate goal is to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), so I can not only provide care but also lead, mentor, and inspire the next generation of nurses. Education at community college has given me the opportunity to rise above my circumstances and show my children that no obstacle is too great when you have determination and purpose. This scholarship would help me continue pursuing my goals while providing a brighter future for the two little boys who motivate me every single day.
      Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
Balancing textbooks in one hand and my twin boys in the other, I have learned that strength comes not from ease but from perseverance. My journey as a full-time nursing student and a single mother has required discipline, resilience, and unwavering determination. These qualities mirror the legacy of Kalia D. Davis, whose life was defined by excellence, ambition, and service. Like her, I believe in striving for my best in every area of life, even when the road is difficult. From the moment I began my studies at Pierce College, I committed myself fully to my education. I currently maintain top grades in Humanities, Nutrition, and Psychology while raising my sons and managing our household. There are nights when sleep is scarce, but I wake up the next day with determination to keep moving forward, because I know I am building a future not only for myself but also for my children. I have learned to use adversity as fuel rather than a setback, and I believe this work ethic is one of my strongest qualities. Sports and fitness have also shaped my character. Staying active has taught me discipline, time management, and the importance of showing up consistently even when motivation runs low. The same persistence I bring to the gym or to a run is the persistence I bring to my classes and my responsibilities as a mother. Like Kalia, who was a dedicated athlete, I have found that sports are more than physical activity, they are a training ground for resilience, endurance, and personal growth. Equally important to me is giving back to my community. I have volunteered with Step by Step, a nonprofit supporting mothers in need, and provided childcare for working mothers while they attended classes. These experiences reminded me that my struggles can become a source of encouragement for others. Offering support to women who were walking a path similar to mine has deepened my sense of compassion and reinforced my desire to pursue nursing as a career of service. My ambition is to become a registered nurse, specializing in maternal and child health. Having gone through a C-section and the challenges of postpartum recovery, I know firsthand the importance of compassionate care. I want to stand beside patients during their most vulnerable moments and provide both skill and empathy. Beyond a career, this is my calling, a way to serve my community, model resilience for my children, and honor the values of perseverance and kindness. This scholarship would relieve financial stress at a time when I am balancing parenting, school, and daily living expenses. It would allow me to devote more energy to my studies and clinical training, ensuring that I can reach my goal of becoming a nurse without sacrificing time with my sons. For me, this support is not just about tuition, it is about stability, opportunity, and the ability to keep moving forward without fear of financial setbacks. Kalia’s legacy of excellence, service, and ambition is one I hope to carry into my own life. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, and if chosen, I will honor her memory by continuing to strive for excellence, serve with kindness, and live with the same determination she embodied.
      TRAM Purple Phoenix Scholarship
I believe that furthering your education can be a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of intimate partner violence. Education not only empowers individuals with knowledge and skills, but it also builds the confidence to support oneself and one's family independently. When a person has access to resources and a career path, they no longer have to rely on a partner for survival. This freedom can mean the difference between staying in a harmful situation and choosing a better life. I’ve seen many women in my own family lose their sense of autonomy because they lacked financial independence. Without education or stable employment, they were often left to live in the shadows of the men in their lives, more as caretakers or servants than as partners. These experiences have shaped my values and my determination to live differently, for myself and for my children. I am a single mother to twin boys, my first children, and every day I strive to set the best example I can for them. I constantly ask myself: “What can I do today to build a better life for tomorrow, next month, and years from now?” This mindset fuels my decision to pursue higher education. I am currently working toward becoming a registered nurse, with the long-term goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. I want to not only create a secure future for my sons but also serve others through compassionate, knowledgeable care. Growing up, I didn’t have a strong support system. My parents were present, but they were young, just 18 when I was born. Emotionally and financially unequipped to provide the stability I needed. I don’t hold resentment; I understand now that life is complex, and they did the best they could. But their struggles taught me what I want to do differently. At 24 years old, motherhood has made me more resilient than I ever imagined. I wake up every day, even when I’m mentally and physically drained, and I do whatever it takes to meet my boys’ needs. My cup may be empty, but I pour into them anyway, because I want them to grow up knowing that their mother loved them fiercely and never gave up on them. I am raising good men, compassionate, respectful, and emotionally intelligent in a world that desperately needs more of them. Education is not just my path out but it is my path forward.
