The faint hum of a lullaby, a protective hand on my shoulder, and a resilient spirit fighting against the clutches of addiction – these are the echoes of my father’s presence in my life. Losing my dad to opioid addiction wasn’t just the loss of a parent; it was the loss of my mentor, protector, and the living lesson of the profound impact of choices. This heart-wrenching chapter in my life reshaped my perspective, driving my purpose and reinforcing the value of resilience, empathy, and advocacy. Growing up, my father was the embodiment of strength. He would lift me onto his shoulders, both literally and metaphorically, enabling me to see the world from new heights. But as the years went by, the opioid crisis, which has unfortunately claimed many, silently took hold of him. It was a gradual change, one where his strength wavered, his laughter became less frequent, and the strong protective figure I had always known began to fade. Despite the transformation, glimpses of the man he once was would occasionally shine through, reminding me that addiction was the invader, not the definition of who he truly was. His battle with addiction illuminated the delicate balance between pain and perseverance. It taught me that external appearances often mask internal struggles. Watching him grapple with his addiction instilled in me a profound sense of empathy. I learned to look beyond the surface, to understand that every individual has a story, and that judgment without knowledge can be a cruel misstep. This insight steered me towards volunteering at local rehabilitation centers, where I found a purpose in assisting those walking the same tightrope my father did. Through counseling sessions and support groups, I channeled the pain of my loss into a force for positive change, aiding others in their journey to recovery. Furthermore, my father’s struggle highlighted the imperativeness of awareness and education surrounding addiction. Realizing the lack of resources and stigma associated with opioid addiction, I felt compelled to initiate awareness campaigns within my community. By sharing my father’s story, and that of countless others, I hoped to humanize the face of addiction, making it less about blame and more about understanding and intervention. Additionally, this experience has had a profound impact on my academic and career aspirations. I am determined to delve into neuroscience and psychology to understand the underpinnings of addiction, hoping to contribute to treatment methods that can save families from experiencing the anguish mine did. This mission, born from personal loss, has become my guiding light, illuminating a path that merges my passion for science with the purpose of making a tangible difference. In a broader sense, my father’s battle taught me the value of resilience. Life’s challenges, whether personal or external, are inevitable. However, the way we confront them, learn from them, and leverage them to fuel our growth is a testament to our character. While my dad’s fight ended in tragedy, it propelled me to find strength in adversity, to understand the importance of support systems, and to relentlessly pursue solutions for problems that seem insurmountable. In conclusion, the loss of my father to opioid addiction was a profound turning point in my life. It brought to the forefront lessons on empathy, resilience, and advocacy. While the pain of his absence is ever-present, the legacy of his life and struggle guides my aspirations and fuels my commitment to making a difference. Through my endeavors, I hope to honor his memory and ensure that his melody, though lost, continues to echo in the positive changes I aim to bring about.

In a world brimming with myriad books, each possessing its unique voice, if I were to choose one for all to read, it would unequivocally be Yuval Noah Harari’s “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.” This might not be the oldest text, nor is it the most poetic, but “Sapiens” encapsulates the essence of our shared journey, from the early days of our species to the present, in a manner that is both enlightening and universally relatable. Firstly, “Sapiens” dissects the complex web of human evolution, not just from a biological standpoint but from a socio-cultural one. It serves as a mirror, reflecting how societies have been constructed, how myths and shared beliefs propelled cooperation, and how these societal constructs have shaped the trajectory of human progress. This introspection is crucial, especially in today’s fragmented world. Understanding our collective past can foster a deeper appreciation for the diversity of cultures and ideas we encounter daily. Furthermore, Harari’s narrative technique is both compelling and accessible. He transcends geographical, linguistic, and cultural barriers, ensuring that every reader, regardless of background, finds a piece of their own history and identity within its pages. This universality is a testament to the book’s power to unify. In an age when differences often overshadow commonalities, “Sapiens” serves as a reminder that our shared narrative is more binding than our disparate paths. Moreover, Harari doesn’t shy away from addressing the darker chapters of human history. By bringing to light the injustices, wars, and inequities, he stirs a collective conscience. This is essential for future generations. To build a harmonious world, one must first recognize and learn from past mistakes. Finally, “Sapiens” implores its readers to ponder the future. With advancements in technology and biogenetics, the very definition of what it means to be human is shifting. By understanding our past and present, Harari equips us to approach the future with both caution and optimism. In essence, “Sapiens” is more than a book; it’s a journey. It retraces the steps of our ancestors, celebrates our achievements, and warns against our follies. I believe that by introducing everyone to this narrative, we can collectively envision and steer towards a more inclusive, understanding, and harmonious future.

Music has always been a powerful medium for expressing emotions, and few artists capture the raw intensity of teenage feelings as poignantly as Olivia Rodrigo. In her song "GUTS," there's a lyric that resonates deeply with my own teenage experience: "THEY ALL SAY THAT IT GETS BETTER BUT WHAT IF I DON’T." This line encapsulates the essence of adolescence, a period marked by uncertainty, self-doubt, and the quest for identity. Growing up, I often felt overwhelmed by the weight of expectations. Parents, teachers, and society at large seemed to have a roadmap for my life, one that promised happiness and success if only I followed it diligently. Yet, as I navigated the tumultuous waters of adolescence, I couldn't help but question this narrative. The lyric "THEY ALL SAY THAT IT GETS BETTER" speaks to the reassurances we often receive during our teenage years. These words of comfort, though well-intentioned, sometimes felt hollow. It's as if the world was telling me to endure the present in the hopes of a brighter future. But what if that future remained elusive? What if the struggles of today didn't lead to the promised land of tomorrow? The second part of the lyric, "BUT WHAT IF I DON’T," is a haunting reflection of the doubts that plagued my mind. Adolescence is a time of profound change, both physically and emotionally. As we grapple with our evolving identities, it's natural to feel lost and out of place. The fear of not fitting in, of not meeting societal standards, can be paralyzing. This lyric captures the heart of this struggle, the nagging worry that perhaps we won't overcome our challenges, that maybe we're destined to remain stuck in this liminal space forever. Moreover, adolescence is a period of firsts: first love, first heartbreak, first taste of independence. Each of these experiences, while exhilarating, also brings its own set of challenges. The world seems both vast and constricting, filled with endless possibilities yet bound by societal norms. The lyric from "GUTS" encapsulates this dichotomy. While the world promises that things will get better, the reality of teenage life often feels far more complex. The pressure to conform, to meet expectations, can be suffocating. And in those moments of doubt, the fear of not improving, of not finding our place in the world, becomes all too real. Yet, it's essential to recognize that this lyric, like adolescence itself, is not just about despair. It's also about resilience, about the courage to voice our fears and face them head-on. By articulating these doubts, Olivia Rodrigo gives voice to a universal teenage experience, reminding us that it's okay to feel lost, to question the path laid out before us. In doing so, she also offers a glimmer of hope. For in acknowledging our fears, we take the first step towards overcoming them. In conclusion, Olivia Rodrigo's "GUTS" provides a poignant reflection on the essence of adolescence. The lyric "THEY ALL SAY THAT IT GETS BETTER BUT WHAT IF I DON’T" captures the challenges of this transformative period, from societal pressures to personal doubts. Yet, it also serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience inherent in the teenage spirit. For while adolescence may be a time of uncertainty, it's also a period of growth, discovery, and ultimately, empowerment.

In the vast mosaic of life, there are moments and people that stand out, casting a brilliant, irreplaceable hue on our experiences. For me, that person is Mrs. Garcia, my 10th-grade English teacher. On the surface, she may appear to many as just another educator, but to me, she was the embodiment of kindness that had the power to shift trajectories, inspire dreams, and foster resilience. Growing up, I was the shy, introverted student who would rather melt into the backdrop than participate in discussions. This hesitance wasn’t due to a lack of ideas but rather a profound fear of judgment and a belief that my voice didn’t matter. Mrs. Garcia noticed this reticence and, instead of writing me off as apathetic or disinterested, she sought to unearth the potential she believed lay beneath. One day after class, Mrs. Garcia asked me to stay back. She began by discussing one of my recent essays, praising its depth and perspective. Then, she handed me a journal, a simple notebook with a blue cover. “Every week,” she said, “write down one thing you wish you had shared in class but didn’t. It can be an idea, an opinion, a question, anything. This is your safe space to let those thoughts live.” This was no ordinary assignment; it was a lifeline. Weeks turned into months, and as the pages of the journal filled, something remarkable began to take shape. Not only was I documenting my unspoken thoughts, but I was also gradually finding the confidence to express them. Mrs. Garcia would occasionally check in, always providing encouragement and expressing genuine interest in my perspectives. She never pushed or prodded; she simply listened and validated. Her consistent kindness and belief in me sowed seeds of self-belief. By the end of the school year, I was a changed student. The once-reserved pupil was now an eager participant in discussions, unafraid to share unique viewpoints and challenge prevailing notions. This transformation was not just confined to the classroom. I began to engage more in extracurricular activities, leading projects and voicing opinions. Mrs. Garcia’s act of kindness had instilled in me a newfound belief in my own worth and capabilities. Beyond bolstering my self-esteem, Mrs. Garcia’s kindness fundamentally changed how I perceive others. I realized that beneath every quiet exterior could be a cacophony of ideas and emotions waiting to be acknowledged. This revelation has led me to approach people with an open heart and mind, always striving to understand their stories and perspectives. I have become a mentor to younger students, using the lessons Mrs. Garcia taught me to empower others. I’m now a fervent believer in the idea that a simple act of kindness can set forth a ripple effect that has the potential to transform lives. Mrs. Garcia was not related to me, nor did she have any vested interest in my success. Yet, she chose kindness. She chose to believe in a student who had trouble believing in himself. Through her compassionate gesture, she taught me that kindness isn’t just a trait but a tool with the power to unlock potential and change destinies. In my journey ahead, as I pursue higher education and eventually a career, the essence of Mrs. Garcia’s kindness will remain my guiding star. For Mrs. Garcia, I was not just another student in a sea of faces; I was an individual with a voice and a story. Her kindness has impacted not just my academic trajectory but my life’s philosophy, and for that, I will be eternally grateful.

My background in computer science may seem worlds apart from the gusty, open-air realm of cycling. But at the intersection of these two passions lies a commitment to community health, sustainability, and innovation. David Goggins, the renowned ultra-athlete, was the spark that ignited my interest in cycling. His tales of pushing boundaries taught me that cycling wasn’t just a mode of transportation or a hobby – it was a powerful symbol of resilience and determination. Diving deeper into the cycling community, the wheels started turning in more ways than one. I recognized cycling’s broader potential. Riding bikes isn’t only about personal fitness; it’s a sustainable, eco-friendly transport solution. Encouraging more people to cycle or walk translates to fewer cars on the road. This means cleaner air, less traffic congestion, and a significant step towards curbing our global carbon footprint. However, this realization came with its own set of challenges. While the benefits of cycling are clear, our current infrastructure doesn’t always support this greener mode of transport. Many potential cyclists are deterred due to safety concerns. Narrow lanes, poorly lit paths, and lack of awareness among motorists about sharing the road with cyclists are genuine issues. To truly foster a cycling culture, our roadways need to be inclusive and safe for everyone. Using my background in computer science, I started brainstorming pragmatic solutions. One idea is the development of intuitive apps that can guide cyclists through safer, less-trafficked routes. Such applications could be integrated with real-time traffic data, helping cyclists navigate through cities with ease and confidence. Additionally, these apps could serve as platforms for cyclists to share feedback, report problem areas, and suggest improvements. A community-driven approach can amplify individual voices, pushing for necessary infrastructural changes. On the other end of the spectrum, educating motorists is equally vital. Perhaps we can design interactive modules or simulations that give drivers a cyclist’s perspective, highlighting the challenges they face on the road. Such programs could be integrated into driver’s education courses, fostering empathy and understanding from the get-go. Beyond tech-driven solutions, community involvement holds the key. Organizing regular town hall meetings or community rides can serve a dual purpose. They can highlight the joy and benefits of cycling while also drawing attention to areas that need improvement. As more people share their experiences, authorities can’t help but take notice. Pinpointing problem spots becomes easier, and efforts can be directed towards making⬤

Have you ever wondered how the imaginative scenes from science fiction movies might come true? Where computers, instead of taking hours, solve problems in mere seconds? That’s where my passion and studies come into play. I'm diving deep into a fascinating area of computer science called Quantum Computing. Think of it as the next big step in the world of computers, blending the exciting ideas from our favorite sci-fi tales with real science to create a brighter future. Regular computers, the ones we use every day, think using bits, much like light switches that flip on or off. But Quantum Computing introduces a game-changer: qubits. Qubits are special because they can be both on and off at the same time, thanks to the magic of quantum physics. This means they can do many tasks all at once, making them super powerful. Imagine if we could use this power in medicine. Today, if scientists want to know how a drug might work, they have to test and wait, which takes time. With Quantum Computing, we could potentially understand how a drug works in a fraction of the time, tailoring medicine to individual needs. The sci-fi idea of personalized medicine for everyone might soon be real! And what about communication? In many futuristic tales, there are messages so secret that no one can break them. Quantum Computing can make this happen. By using the rules of quantum physics, we can create codes that are almost impossible to crack, ensuring our private information stays truly private. Now, while this all sounds straight out of a science fiction novel, it's real and happening now. My studies are not just about coding or working with computers. They’re about reshaping the future. Every time I learn about a new quantum principle or work on a problem, I feel like I'm taking one step closer to that fantastic future we see in movies. But it’s essential to remember that with great power comes great responsibility. Quantum Computing isn't just about making things faster or more secure. It's about understanding how to use this power wisely. As I learn, I'm constantly thinking about how to make sure we use Quantum Computing for good, benefiting everyone and not just a few. In closing, I believe that the boundary between the imaginative worlds of science fiction and our current reality is just a few quantum leaps away. Through my studies in computer science and with the support of this scholarship, I hope to be part of the incredible journey that turns those leaps into everyday steps. By investing in my education, this scholarship will be fueling a journey. A journey where we move closer to a world where the incredible scenes from our favorite sci-fi stories become everyday wonders. Let's build that future together.

It’s often said that we find pieces of ourselves in the characters we love. For me, this sentiment rings most true with Jim Halpert from “The Office.” At a cursory glance, one might dismiss Jim as just the “prankster” of Dunder Mifflin. However, upon closer inspection, it’s evident that Jim is much more than his witty pranks on Dwight; he is the emblem of finding balance between taking life too seriously and finding joy in the mundane. My resonance with Jim is multifaceted. Firstly, he possesses a sardonic and witty sense of humor, which I see mirrored in myself. Those sarcastic glances at the camera when Michael makes a typical gaffe or the banter with Pam highlight a coping mechanism that many of us employ in real life - using humor as a means to navigate the chaos around us. Just as Jim playfully navigates the eccentricities of his coworkers, I’ve found myself using humor to bond with peers, diffuse tense situations, or simply bring a momentary smile during a stressful day. Furthermore, Jim’s ambition, or at times, lack thereof, is something I’ve grappled with in my own life. His hesitance to chase after his dreams, due to fear of the unknown or leaving the comfort of Scranton, reflects the internal conflicts many of us face. Do we choose the path of least resistance, or do we venture into the unknown for the possibility of something greater? Watching Jim eventually pursue his dreams in Philadelphia made me reflect on the importance of taking risks and not allowing comfort to become a barrier to potential success. “The Office” has had a profound influence on my sense of humor. While it’s renowned for its slapstick moments and unforgettable quotes, at its core, the show emphasizes the beauty of finding humor in everyday situations. The series has taught me that even in the most monotonous environments, there’s room for laughter and joy. Whether it’s a casual joke at a meeting or a full-blown office party hosted by the Party Planning Committee, these moments of levity are essential for our mental well-being. On a deeper level, “The Office” has provided valuable insights into workplace dynamics. Beyond the comedic exterior, the show delves into the complexities of professional relationships, hierarchical tensions, and the struggles of maintaining a work-life balance. Through characters like Michael Scott, we learn the importance of empathy and understanding in leadership. Dwight’s unyielding loyalty to Dunder Mifflin underscores the significance of dedication and passion in one’s profession. And in characters like Pam, we witness the transformative power of self-belief and persistence. In conclusion, while “The Office” is a comedic masterpiece, its true genius lies in its ability to seamlessly intertwine humor with profound life lessons. My affinity with Jim Halpert serves as a reminder that humor can be a powerful tool in navigating both the personal and professional spheres of life. As I move forward in my academic and professional journey, I’ll carry with me the lessons and laughs from Dunder Mifflin, ensuring that I find joy in the ordinary and never shy away from the extraordinary.

When you say “Nintendo games,” an ocean of memories floods my mind. From intense battles in Super Smash Bros to strategic moves in Mario Party, every game has its unique set of thrills. But if I were to pick one that I cherish the most in co-op mode, it would unequivocally be Mario Kart 8. It’s not just about racing; it’s about the moments shared, the laughter, the frustrations, and the inexplicable joy when you’re soaring through the vibrant skies of Cloudtop Cruise or skidding through the tricky turns of Bowser’s Castle. One winter evening, I remember, was particularly unforgettable. The sky was darkened by heavy clouds, heralding the imminent arrival of snow. My younger sister and I had been cooped up inside, sheltered from the bone-chilling winds outside. As the aroma of hot chocolate wafted through our living room, we decided it was the perfect setting for a Mario Kart tournament. The rules were simple: whoever lost three times in a row would make the next round of drinks. The races were fierce from the start. We were neck and neck in wins and losses. But one race, in particular, stands out, not because of its competitiveness but because of its unpredictability and our reactions to it. We chose the Electrodrome track, with its pulsating neon lights and exhilarating music setting the perfect stage for our showdown. I was in the lead for the majority of the race, with my sister trailing close behind. Every shell she threw, I deflected. Every banana she placed, I avoided. I could almost taste victory as we approached the final lap. But then, the unpredictable nature of Mario Kart struck. Just as we neared the finish line, a blue shell (the bane of every leader’s existence) shot out of nowhere, targeting me. Now, in Mario Kart, moments like these can be frustrating, especially when you’ve maintained the lead for so long. But what happened next was nothing short of magical and hilariously tragic. My sister, gleeful about my impending doom, didn’t notice the banana right in her path. As my kart spiraled upwards from the impact of the blue shell, her kart spun out of control because of the banana. What’s more? The AI-controlled Wario, who we’d dismissed as not being a threat, zoomed past both of us, claiming the win. The room was silent for a moment. Then, we erupted into laughter. The hot chocolates were forgotten, the cold outside was forgotten; it was just two siblings sharing a moment of pure, unadulterated joy over a game that didn’t care about skill as much as it cared about the unpredictability and fun. Mario Kart 8 remains my favorite not because I win all the time or because it’s the most challenging, but because it reminds me of moments like these. Moments where a simple video game becomes a bridge to human connection, teaching us to find joy in the unexpected and value the memories we create with our loved ones. To this day, my sister and I still laugh about that winter evening, reminding each other of our epic failure just meters away from victory. And every time we do, we’re not just reminiscing about a game; we’re cherishing a bond that was strengthened over shells, bananas, and a sneaky Wario.

The universe of “Stranger Things” is replete with enigmatic characters, each bringing to the fore a unique blend of talents, strengths, and vulnerabilities. Given the opportunity to form a squad to combat a new supernatural threat, the challenge is not just about selecting the strongest fighters, but more about choosing a synergistic combination of individuals who complement one another. With this perspective, my dream squad would comprise Eleven, Hopper, and Steve Harrington. First and foremost, Eleven (or El as she’s fondly called) is the quintessential powerhouse. Her psychokinetic abilities are unparalleled in the series. While her strengths are obvious in her telekinetic feats, what truly underscores her importance to the team is her unyielding spirit. Raised in a laboratory under the cruel tutelage of Dr. Brenner, Eleven’s tragic past has molded her into a resilient fighter. She stands as a beacon of hope, a testament to the human spirit’s capability to withstand, adapt, and overcome. Yet, her power doesn’t make her infallible. Eleven’s vulnerability, especially her quest for identity and family, humanizes her. This duality of strength and vulnerability makes her an essential component of the squad, driving them forward with her incredible powers while reminding them of the very human stakes they’re fighting for. Chief Jim Hopper, on the other hand, brings a different kind of strength to the table. His experience as a police officer equips the team with tactical expertise, essential in any combat situation. More importantly, Hopper has a protector’s instinct. His paternal relationship with Eleven is a testament to his nurturing side, one that would ensure the team’s unity and emotional well-being. But Hopper’s true strength lies in his ability to make tough calls. Whether it’s the decision to potentially sacrifice himself for the greater good or face off against bureaucratic red tape, Hopper is the squad’s moral compass, ensuring they remain grounded, focused, and ready for whatever supernatural challenges come their way. Lastly, Steve Harrington, affectionately dubbed as ‘Mom Steve’ by fans, may initially seem like an unconventional choice. However, Steve’s evolution from a high school ‘bad boy’ to a fan-favorite hero is nothing short of remarkable. What he lacks in supernatural abilities or law enforcement experience, he compensates with sheer heart. Steve brings to the squad a unique blend of courage, loyalty, and levity. His unwavering commitment to protect the kids, especially Dustin, showcases his depth of character. More importantly, in the face of otherworldly horrors, Steve’s wit and humor would be invaluable. He serves as a reminder that even in the direst of circumstances, laughter and camaraderie can serve as potent weapons against the darkest of foes. In conclusion, combating supernatural threats is not just about raw power or tactical acumen. It’s about a harmonious blend of strengths, a unity of purpose, and the capacity to remain human in the face of inhuman odds. Eleven’s power and heart, Hopper’s experience and protective instinct, and Steve’s courage and levity create a formidable squad, capable of not just facing but overcoming any supernatural adversary. With them by my side, the Upside Down wouldn’t stand a chance.

In the vast expanse of cinematic masterpieces, choosing just one film to watch for the rest of my life is a daunting task. However, if I were to make such a choice, it would undoubtedly be "The Shawshank Redemption." This film, directed by Frank Darabont and based on Stephen King's novella, is not just a movie; it's a profound exploration of hope, resilience, and the indomitable human spirit. From the outset, "The Shawshank Redemption" captivates its audience with its compelling narrative. The story follows Andy Dufresne, a banker wrongly convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. As he navigates the brutal world of Shawshank Prison, he forms an unlikely friendship with Ellis "Red" Redding. Together, they endure the hardships of incarceration, all the while holding onto the belief that hope can never be truly extinguished. One of the primary reasons this film resonates so deeply with me is its portrayal of hope as an eternal flame. In one of the movie's most iconic lines, Andy says, "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies." This sentiment is a testament to the human ability to find light even in the darkest of circumstances. Throughout my life, I've faced challenges that seemed insurmountable, but, much like Andy, I've learned that with hope, perseverance, and a little ingenuity, any obstacle can be overcome. Another aspect of the film that makes it a timeless classic is its exploration of friendship. The bond between Andy and Red is genuine and heartwarming. Their relationship serves as a reminder that true friendship can be found in the most unexpected places and that it has the power to change lives. In a world where connections can sometimes feel superficial, "The Shawshank Redemption" showcases the depth and authenticity that real friendships offer. Furthermore, the film's impeccable storytelling is complemented by its stunning cinematography and soul-stirring soundtrack. The visual and auditory elements work in harmony to create an immersive experience that transports viewers to the world of Shawshank. The iconic scene of Andy standing in the rain, arms outstretched, after his daring escape, is a testament to the film's ability to evoke powerful emotions. It's a moment of pure, unadulterated joy, symbolizing freedom, rebirth, and the triumph of the human spirit. In conclusion, "The Shawshank Redemption" is more than just a movie; it's a lesson in hope, friendship, and resilience. Its timeless themes, compelling narrative, and unforgettable characters make it a film that not only entertains but also inspires. If I were to watch only one movie for the rest of my life, it would be this one, for it serves as a constant reminder that even in the bleakest of situations, there is always a glimmer of hope. And as long as we hold onto that hope, we can overcome any challenge that comes our way.

Thesis: Laozi's profound words in the Tao Te Ching emphasize the importance of simplicity, humility, and harmony with nature, urging us to recognize the inherent balance in the universe and within ourselves. Selected Paragraph from the Tao Te Ching (Chapter 1): "The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao; The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth. The named is the mother of ten thousand things. Ever desireless, one can see the mystery. Ever desiring, one can see the manifestations. These two spring from the same source but differ in name; this appears as darkness. Darkness within darkness. The gate to all mystery." Laozi, an ancient Chinese philosopher, penned the Tao Te Ching over two millennia ago, yet its wisdom remains as relevant today as it was then. At the heart of this text lies the concept of the 'Tao', often translated as 'the Way'. However, as Laozi himself states, the true essence of the Tao is beyond words and definitions. It is an eternal principle that governs the universe, and while it can be experienced, it cannot be fully described. This paradoxical introduction serves as a profound reminder of the limitations of language and the vastness of the universe's mysteries. The phrase "The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth" delves into the idea of origins and the primordial essence of existence. Before labels, categories, and distinctions, there was a pure, undifferentiated reality. This 'nameless' state is the purest form of existence, unburdened by human constructs and perceptions. It's a state of unity and wholeness, where everything is interconnected. In contrast, "The named is the mother of ten thousand things" speaks to the myriad forms and phenomena that arise when we begin to categorize and differentiate. While naming and categorizing are essential for human understanding and communication, they also create separation and duality. Laozi further delves into the concept of desire, drawing a distinction between being "ever desireless" and "ever desiring". To be without desire is to be in a state of contentment, acceptance, and presence. It is from this state that one can perceive the deeper mysteries of existence, the underlying unity of all things. On the other hand, constant desiring keeps us focused on the external manifestations of the world, the ever-changing play of forms. While these manifestations are a part of the Tao, they are just the surface layer, and constant attachment to them can distract us from the deeper truths. The concluding lines, "Darkness within darkness. The gate to all mystery," encapsulate the profound depth and incomprehensibility of the Tao. It is a realm beyond human cognition, a depth that is layered with mysteries. Yet, it is not a foreboding darkness but rather a fertile ground of potential, from which all things arise and to which all things return. In our modern world, where we are often driven by desires, ambitions, and the constant pursuit of more, Laozi's words serve as a timely reminder. They urge us to return to simplicity, to recognize the inherent balance and harmony in the universe, and to align ourselves with this natural order. By doing so, we can find peace, contentment, and a deeper understanding of our place in the cosmos. Furthermore, Laozi's teachings in the Tao Te Ching provide a counter-narrative to the relentless pace and materialism of modern society. In a world dominated by technology, instant gratification, and a constant barrage of information, the ancient wisdom of the Tao offers a sanctuary of stillness and introspection. It beckons us to slow down, to reflect, and to find contentment in the present moment rather than constantly seeking external validation or the next big thing. The line "Ever desireless, one can see the mystery" is particularly poignant in today's context. In an era where desires are constantly manufactured and amplified by advertising, social media, and peer pressure, Laozi's words challenge us to question the nature of our desires. Are they truly our own, or have they been implanted in us by external forces? By shedding these externally imposed desires and returning to a state of inner stillness, we can reconnect with our true selves and the mysteries of the universe. Moreover, the Tao Te Ching's emphasis on harmony with nature is a clarion call in the face of the environmental challenges we face today. As we grapple with climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation, Laozi's words remind us of the intrinsic value of nature and our deep interconnectedness with the natural world. By recognizing and respecting this interconnectedness, we can forge a more sustainable and harmonious relationship with the planet. The Tao Te Ching also offers insights into leadership and governance. Laozi advocates for leaders who are humble, compassionate, and lead by example rather than through force or coercion. In a world where authoritarianism and divisive politics are on the rise, Laozi's vision of leadership based on humility and service is both refreshing and urgently needed. In essence, the Tao Te Ching is not just an ancient text but a living philosophy, a guide for life that remains as relevant today as it was over two thousand years ago. Its teachings on simplicity, humility, and harmony provide a roadmap for individuals and societies to navigate the complexities of modern life. By internalizing and embodying the wisdom of the Tao, we can cultivate inner peace, foster genuine connections with others, and create a world that is in harmony with nature and the deeper rhythms of the universe. In conclusion, Laozi's Tao Te Ching stands as a testament to the timeless nature of wisdom. While civilizations rise and fall, and the external trappings of society change, the core truths about human existence and the universe remain constant. By returning to these truths and grounding ourselves in the wisdom of the ancients, we can find clarity, purpose, and meaning in an ever-changing world.

In my journey to become financially literate, the best money lesson I received was from Ramit Sethi's book, "I Will Teach You To Be Rich". The lesson was: "Spend extravagantly on the things you love, and cut costs mercilessly on the things you don’t." This simple yet profound advice has been a guiding principle in my financial journey and has helped me make better spending decisions, save more, and ultimately lead a more fulfilling life. In a world where consumerism is rampant, and we are constantly bombarded with advertisements and messages to buy more, it is easy to fall into the trap of mindless spending. We often end up spending on things that we don’t really need or even want, just because they are on sale or because everyone else seems to have them. This kind of spending often leads to regret and financial stress. On the other hand, there are things that bring us genuine joy and add value to our lives. These are the things that are worth spending on, even if they seem expensive. The lesson from Ramit Sethi's book taught me to be more intentional with my spending. It made me realize that it is okay to spend on things that bring me joy and add value to my life, even if they seem extravagant. For example, I love traveling and exploring new places. It brings me immense joy and helps me grow as a person. So, I don’t mind spending on travel, even if it means splurging on a nice hotel or a fancy meal. On the other hand, I don’t care much about designer clothes or the latest gadgets. So, I cut costs mercilessly on these things and opt for more affordable options. This approach has helped me strike a balance between enjoying the present and planning for the future. By cutting costs on things that don’t matter to me, I am able to save more and invest in my future. At the same time, by allowing myself to spend on things that bring me joy, I am able to live a fulfilling life and not feel deprived. Moreover, this lesson has also helped me become more mindful and grateful for the things I have. Instead of mindlessly accumulating stuff, I now carefully consider each purchase and only buy things that add value to my life. This has not only helped me save money but has also helped me declutter my life and focus on what truly matters. In conclusion, the best money lesson I received in my journey to become financially literate was to "spend extravagantly on the things you love, and cut costs mercilessly on the things you don’t." This lesson has helped me make better spending decisions, save more, and lead a more fulfilling life. It has taught me the importance of being intentional with my spending and being grateful for the things I have. Ultimately, it has helped me strike a balance between enjoying the present and planning for the future, which I believe is the key to financial success and a fulfilling life.

In the ever-evolving web of Spider-Man portrayals on the big screen, one actor's embodiment of the iconic hero stands out for me – Tom Holland. His portrayal captures the essence of Spider-Man's youthful spirit, relatable struggles, and unwavering determination, making him my favorite Spider-Man. Tom Holland's portrayal of Spider-Man seamlessly blends the charm of a friendly neighborhood superhero with the genuine struggles of a high school student trying to balance his dual identities. What resonates deeply with me is his ability to portray the challenges and dilemmas of a young hero growing up in a world filled with complex responsibilities. What sets Holland apart is his relatability. As a young actor himself, his performance taps into the genuine enthusiasm and vulnerability of a teenager navigating the trials of adolescence. His Spider-Man grapples with homework, crushes, and the yearning for acceptance, which reminds us that even superheroes confront everyday challenges. This relatability makes Spider-Man more than a hero – he becomes a friend we cheer for, a comrade we root for, and a mirror to our own experiences. Holland's portrayal flourishes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where he interacts with seasoned superheroes like Iron Man and Captain America. His interactions with these iconic figures capture the starstruck wonder we'd all feel if we met our idols. Moreover, his dynamic with Tony Stark serves as a mentorship that resonates universally – a young protege seeking guidance from a wise mentor. The emotional depth Holland brings to Spider-Man is equally remarkable. In "Spider-Man: Homecoming," his desperation to prove himself while grappling with his ordinary life makes him endearing. In "Spider-Man: Far From Home," his grief over the loss of his mentor and his determination to honor his legacy showcase his growth as a character. What truly seals the deal for me is Holland's physicality in the role. He embodies Spider-Man's agility and acrobatics seamlessly, making the high-flying stunts appear natural. This physical commitment translates Spider-Man's comic book vitality onto the screen, making every swing through the cityscape a testament to Holland's dedication. While there's an air of nostalgia surrounding previous Spider-Man actors, like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, it's Holland's portrayal that captures the youthful essence of the character and reinvigorates the franchise. He brings a fresh perspective that resonates with new generations of fans, bridging the gap between classic comic book fans and those encountering Spider-Man for the first time. In a diverse world, representation matters, and Tom Holland's portrayal of Spider-Man also aligns with the character's identity. Spider-Man stands as an emblem of inclusivity, demonstrating that anyone, regardless of background or circumstances, can rise to become a hero. Holland's casting reflects the values Spider-Man stands for – a symbol of empowerment and unity. In a tapestry woven with various Spider-Man interpretations, Tom Holland's portrayal shines as a beacon of authenticity, relatability, and evolution. His portrayal breathes life into a beloved character, reminding us that heroes can be both extraordinary and ordinary, powerful and vulnerable. Through Holland's embodiment, Spider-Man remains a timeless figure who teaches us that courage, resilience, and integrity make us all capable of greatness.

In the vast expanse of anime wonder, there's one series that holds my heart in a perpetual embrace – "Spirited Away." Its timeless allure lies not only in its breathtaking visuals and enchanting storyline, but also in the profound life lessons it imparts, making it an endlessly captivating masterpiece for me. "Spirited Away," directed by Hayao Miyazaki, weaves a spellbinding tale of a young girl named Chihiro, who becomes trapped in a mysterious and magical world after her parents inadvertently feast upon enchanted food. What ensues is a mesmerizing journey of self-discovery, resilience, and the triumph of the human spirit. What makes "Spirited Away" a perennial favorite for me is its ability to transport me to a realm where imagination knows no bounds. The intricate animation, meticulously handcrafted by Studio Ghibli, creates a world that feels palpably real, yet drenched in magic. The bustling bathhouse for spirits, the ethereal landscapes, and the quirky characters all come together to form a universe that beckons me to explore its every nook and cranny, even after countless viewings. Beyond the visual splendor, it's the profound themes and emotions that keep me enchanted. Chihiro's transformation from a timid and uncertain girl to a brave and resourceful young woman is an empowering journey that resonates deeply with my own experiences. Her encounters with eccentric spirits mirror the challenges we all face in life, from dealing with intimidating authority figures to befriending those who seem different from us. Through Chihiro, I learn that growth often emerges from confronting our fears and embracing our unique qualities. The film's exploration of environmentalism is another facet that deeply resonates with me. The delicate balance between the human world and the spirit realm serves as a poignant reminder of our responsibility to nature. "Spirited Away" teaches me that the consequences of our actions extend beyond us, affecting the world around us in ways we may not fully grasp. Moreover, the film's portrayal of friendship and empathy is a lesson I treasure. Chihiro's compassion for the spirits she encounters, whether they're greedy, prideful, or lonely, reminds me that understanding and kindness can bridge the gaps between individuals, regardless of their nature or origin. The film's soundtrack, composed by Joe Hisaishi, is a symphonic masterpiece that heightens every emotion and scene. Its melodic tunes linger in my mind, evoking a sense of nostalgia and wonder that accompanies me long after the credits roll. In essence, "Spirited Away" captures the essence of the human experience – a blend of vulnerability, growth, interconnectedness, and wonder. With each viewing, I unearth new layers of its beauty and depth, like unearthing gems from a treasure trove of wisdom and imagination. It's an anime that transcends time and age, speaking to the child in me and the adult I strive to become. As I journey through life, "Spirited Away" remains my constant companion, a source of solace and inspiration. Its ability to transport me to a world where the extraordinary mingles with the mundane, and where the human spirit finds its wings, is why this anime holds an eternal place in my heart.

In a whimsical collision of universes, my dream Disney Channel crossover episode would blend the enchanting worlds of "Lizzie McGuire" and "Wizards of Waverly Place." Titled "Enchanted Ventures," this episode would weave the lives of Lizzie McGuire and the Russo siblings into an exciting storyline that embraces friendship, self-discovery, and magical misadventures. The episode kicks off with Lizzie (played by Hilary Duff) planning a school trip to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Meanwhile, the Russo family is celebrating a rare alignment of celestial bodies that promises to amplify their wizarding powers. Across town, the Russo family begins their convergence spell, but an unexpected surge of magic leads to the amulet resonating with the wizarding spell. The connection is established, and Lizzie finds herself transported into the wizarding lair of the Russo family. Panic ensues on both sides, but Alex Russo (played by Selena Gomez) quickly intervenes, using her magical prowess to reassure Lizzie. The two girls bond over their shared confusion and embark on a quest to reverse the spell. The catch? The amulet that brought Lizzie to the wizarding world has lost its power, and they need to retrieve a rare gem from the heart of a magical forest to mend the tear between realities. As the trio journeys into the enchanted forest, they encounter mythical creatures, riddles, and challenges that test their friendship and resourcefulness. Along the way, Lizzie's characteristic humor and relatability bring a touch of reality to the magical world, while Alex's witty spells and Max's (played by Jake T. Austin) quirky charm create a vibrant camaraderie. Their adventure isn't without its complications. A mischievous creature accidentally steals the amulet, causing it to switch hands among Lizzie, Alex, and Max, leading to hilarious situations and poignant moments of growth. Lizzie's compassion and understanding encourage Alex to open up about the pressures of being a wizard, while Alex's self-assuredness empowers Lizzie to embrace her own uniqueness. Finally, after overcoming trials and learning invaluable lessons, the trio reaches the heart of the forest and retrieves the gem. With a united effort, they mend the fabric of reality, ensuring that Lizzie can return home. The bond forged between the two worlds remains, with Lizzie, Alex, and Max promising to visit each other in times of need. In the fabric of time, generations emerge as chapters in the narrative of humanity. The "Ode to Millennials-Gen Z" artfully compares the journey of the Greatest Generation with that of the contemporary youth, shining a light on the potential, challenges, and unique perspectives that characterize this evolving era. President Franklin Roosevelt's words, "This generation has a rendezvous with destiny," resonated deeply then, as they do now. The Greatest Generation's transformation from the hardships of the Great Depression to the crucible of World War II underscored their exceptional resilience and duty-bound spirit. This legacy serves as an inspiring backdrop for Millennials and Gen Z, who face their own formidable rendezvous with destiny. While the trials differ, the essence of courage and commitment remains constant—a testament to the unbroken thread of human determination. Inheriting a world grappling with financial turmoil, the contemporary youth are tasked with resolving the debts of both economy and environment. This predicament is reminiscent of the Greatest Generation's trials, echoing the economic strife of the 1930s and the global conflict that ensued. Despite the disparity in circumstances, both generations share a fundamental responsibility: to build a future they can be proud of. This common ground highlights the enduring values that connect us across generations and underscores the vital role of resilience and ingenuity. A poignant observation by Buckminster Fuller that "our children are our elders in universe time" conveys an intriguing paradox. While the older generation possesses accumulated experiences, the younger generation is endowed with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. Navigating this divergence is the crux of intergenerational understanding. The gap between preferred communication methods—letters versus telephones—illustrates this well. By acknowledging this divide and harnessing its potential, a bridge can be formed that combines the wisdom of the past with the innovation of the present. The essay's poignant comparison between the older generation's longing for familiarity and Millennials-Gen Z's evolving modes of interaction raises a crucial point about adaptability. While it's easy to dismiss new technologies as disruptive, history shows that each evolution eventually becomes a seamless part of society. Just as the telephone evolved from a novelty to a necessity, Millennials-Gen Z's unique way of engagement is a reflection of the evolving landscape they inhabit. Adapting to these changes enables not just mutual understanding, but also a vibrant exchange of ideas across generations. The heart of the matter lies in the remarkable parallels between the two generations. Both confronted dire economic landscapes—low incomes and high unemployment in the 1930s, paralleled by similar challenges today. The Greatest Generation's mettle was tested in the crucible of war, mirroring the contemporary youth's battle against environmental and societal perils. The essay rightly notes the resilience with which both generations embraced their roles. The Greatest Generation's sense of duty and grace under pressure finds a kindred spirit in Millennials-Gen Z's willingness to shoulder the burdens of their time with unwavering determination. A key distinction lies in the nature of the battles these two generations face. While the Greatest Generation's fight was largely against external forces, Millennials-Gen Z confront both external threats and internal systemic issues. The essay eloquently addresses this, highlighting challenges such as economic instability, oppressive student loans, and the daunting cost of healthcare. Through their acceptance of these burdens, the youth reflect a resilience that's as much about navigating external challenges as it is about reimagining the systems within which these challenges exist. One remarkable attribute of the contemporary generation is their tenacity in the face of adversity. Despite inheriting a world that is far from perfect, they embody optimism and an eagerness to contribute. This youthful enthusiasm is infectious and challenges the older generation to reexamine their own perspectives. In a world where resentment seems to permeate discourse, the youth's kindness, tolerance, and empathy stand as a testament to the transformative power of a compassionate approach to life's struggles. The recognition of the youth's call of duty is a hopeful note that resonates throughout the essay. Their enthusiastic embrace of challenges and their innate sense of responsibility set them on a path to potentially become "The Greatest Generation 2.0." Their openness to confronting pressing issues with grace and determination is a tribute to their capacity for empathy and social change. As they rise to meet their destiny, their potential to reshape the world in positive ways is undeniable. In conclusion, the "Ode to Millennials-Gen Z" underscores the shared essence of generations across time—facing their rendezvous with destiny with determination and adaptability. It is through the confluence of experience and innovation that the tapestry of human history continues to evolve. With a nod to the past and a gaze fixed on the future, Millennials-Gen Z hold within them the power to not just overcome the challenges they inherit but to reshape the very foundation of our world. Their journey is not merely a continuation but a transformation, and the possibility of them becoming "The Greatest Generation 2.0" is not just an aspiration, but a testament to the enduring spirit of human progress.

When our minds are nurtured, they become sanctuaries of creativity, empathy, and resilience. Personally, I've witnessed how my mental well-being influences my relationships, academic pursuits, and personal growth. It's like sunlight for my soul, illuminating my path and allowing me to embrace life's challenges with a hopeful heart. Maintaining my mental wellness is a dance of self-discovery and self-care. Much like a diverse symphony, I combine various elements to create a harmonious rhythm. First and foremost, I've embraced mindfulness as a daily practice. Whether it's through meditation, deep breathing, or mindful journaling, these moments of stillness ground me and cultivate a sense of presence. Mindfulness is like a compass, guiding me back to myself amidst life's whirlwinds. Cultivating meaningful connections is another pillar of my mental wellness strategy. Human interactions are the threads that weave the fabric of our lives. I seek out diverse relationships, engaging with individuals who come from different walks of life. These interactions nurture my empathy and expand my perspective, reminding me that we are all part of an intricate tapestry. As I learn from others, I also share my own experiences, fostering an environment of authenticity and support. Innovation finds its place in my mental health journey through creative outlets. Whether I'm strumming my guitar, painting vibrant strokes on canvas, or exploring the written word, creativity is my sanctuary. These outlets serve as vessels for my emotions, allowing me to express feelings that words alone may struggle to convey. Innovation lies not just in technological advancements, but also in the creative ways we express, understand, and heal ourselves. Physical well-being is intricately linked to mental health, prompting me to embark on regular exercise adventures. A simple jog through the park or a rejuvenating yoga session isn't just about physical fitness – it's an investment in my mental clarity and vitality. Through movement, I channel my energy, release stress, and boost my mood, demonstrating the profound connection between our bodies and minds. In conclusion, the luminosity of mental health is something I ardently champion. It's the heartbeat that pulses through every aspect of my life, nurturing my growth, empathy, and resilience. Through mindfulness, diverse connections, creative outlets, and physical activity, I curate a wellness regimen that cherishes my mind and heart. Just as a garden flourishes with care, so too does my mental well-being when tended to with intention and love. My journey is a testament to the profound significance of mental health, and I am committed to spreading this understanding to illuminate the lives of others.

Leadership, to me, is the art of weaving together diverse threads of inspiration, empathy, and vision into a tapestry that not only covers the present but also shapes the future. It's not just about holding a position; it's about fostering an environment where each individual thread contributes to the overall strength and beauty of the whole. In this essay, I will explore my unique perspective on leadership and explain why it holds immense importance in today's world. At its core, leadership is the ability to guide, inspire, and uplift others towards a common goal. But it's not a one-size-fits-all concept; rather, it's a mosaic of qualities that adapt to the needs of a diverse team. A leader should be like a puzzle master, identifying the strengths of each team member and placing them where they can contribute most effectively. For instance, a puzzle piece might be excellent at problem-solving, while another might excel in communication. Recognizing and integrating these varied strengths can lead to innovative solutions that might otherwise remain hidden. Empathy, too, is a fundamental cornerstone of leadership. It's the thread that weaves trust and understanding among team members. A leader who listens and genuinely cares about the well-being of their team can create an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. When people feel heard, they're more likely to offer their unique insights without fear. This diverse range of perspectives can spark creativity and drive, ultimately propelling the team towards success. In today's interconnected world, leadership is more vital than ever. The challenges we face – from climate change to social inequalities – require collaborative efforts from diverse individuals with varied expertise. A leader, in this context, is not just a commander but a facilitator of unity. They bring people together across cultures, disciplines, and backgrounds, enabling them to work towards a shared vision. Such inclusive leadership can break down silos and foster cross-pollination of ideas, leading to more comprehensive and effective solutions. Furthermore, leadership isn't limited to traditional hierarchical structures. It's about influence, and everyone can be a leader in their own right. Even a single individual who takes initiative to address a community issue demonstrates leadership. This concept of distributed leadership is powerful because it means that positive change can be driven from the ground up, without waiting for directives from above. In conclusion, leadership is the tapestry that holds a team, a community, or even a society together. It's a harmonious blend of recognizing strengths, nurturing empathy, embracing diversity, and embracing innovation. In a world where progress is often measured by collaboration and adaptability, leadership is not just important – it's essential. It's about recognizing that every thread, every individual, is crucial to the overall masterpiece. By weaving our strengths together, embracing empathy, and leading with inclusivity, we can create a future that's vibrant, resilient, and full of promise. So, let us all embrace our inner puzzle masters and weave a better world through the art of leadership.

Looking ahead, my volunteer experiences have solidified my commitment to a career and life aligned with my core values. With empathy as my compass, I'm determined to channel my efforts into projects that prioritize people's well-being and dignity. I envision a future where every action, from the smallest gesture to the grandest endeavor, is a testament to the transformative power of empathy. With every act of volunteerism, I'm reminded that even the smallest pebble can create ripples that touch the shores of change. Through empathy, diversity, and innovation, I'm working towards a future where every ripple I create contributes to a more compassionate, united, and inventive world.

In a world often consumed by personal pursuits, embodying selflessness stands as a beacon of hope, a testament to the profound connections that bind humanity. For me, selflessness isn't just a virtue, but a way of life that I've embraced with open arms. This philosophy is rooted in the belief that our actions have the power to shape lives and transform communities, even in the simplest of ways. One striking example of my commitment to selflessness took place during a bitterly cold winter. I noticed an elderly neighbor struggling to clear her driveway of snow. Recognizing her vulnerability, I didn't hesitate. Armed with a shovel and a warm smile, I spent hours helping her clear the snow, igniting not only her gratitude but also a heartfelt connection. The genuine appreciation in her eyes was worth more than gold—it was the embodiment of the positive ripple effect that selflessness can create. But selflessness isn't limited to grand gestures. It often thrives in the subtleties of everyday life. At a local community center, I became involved in a program that provided mentorship and tutoring to underprivileged students. In working with these bright young minds, I witnessed their struggles and aspirations firsthand. By dedicating time and patience, I was able to offer them not only academic support but also the belief that someone genuinely cared about their success. Their growth became a reflection of the impact of selflessness on both sides, as I learned just as much from them as they did from me. In the realm of innovation, I've strived to infuse selflessness into my pursuits. Drawing inspiration from my passion for technology, I initiated a project to provide computer literacy classes for the elderly members of our community. Recognizing the digital divide, I sought to empower them with the skills to connect with their families and the world at large. Through patient teaching and a sprinkle of humor, I witnessed their once hesitant clicks evolve into confident navigation. Their newfound abilities became a gateway to independence and an affirmation that age should never be a barrier to learning. Selflessness, to me, isn't about being a hero; it's about becoming a vessel of positive change. It's the small acts of kindness, the quiet empathy that creates bonds, and the determination to make the world a better place. It's about seeing beyond ourselves and realizing that our stories are intricately woven into the tapestry of humanity. As I reflect on my journey of selflessness, I'm reminded of the words of Martin Luther King Jr.: "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" I am but a humble traveler on this path, continuously learning, evolving, and striving to illuminate the lives of those around me. In conclusion, embodying selflessness isn't a fleeting act—it's a way of life that finds beauty in simplicity, thrives in diversity, and resonates with innovation. Through the examples of helping my elderly neighbor, mentoring underprivileged students, and bridging the digital divide for the elderly, I've learned that selflessness is a two-way street. It enriches not only the lives of those we touch but also our own. In a world that often asks, "What's in it for me?" I'm committed to asking, "How can I make a difference?" Selflessness is my answer, and it's a commitment I carry with a heart full of empathy and a spirit determined to create a better world for all.

In a world where nature's melody is often overshadowed by the cacophony of modern life, I have found solace and purpose in being a passionate advocate for the environment. My journey as a steward of nature's beauty has been an exhilarating adventure, one that I embarked upon with a fervent desire to create a sustainable legacy for generations to come. My advocacy efforts have taken root in both simple acts and grand endeavors. From organizing community clean-up drives to educating local schools about recycling, I have tirelessly worked to instill a sense of responsibility for the environment in those around me. Through engaging workshops, I've aimed to simplify complex environmental concepts, using relatable analogies to make the subject accessible to diverse audiences. One of my most fulfilling experiences was spearheading a tree-planting initiative in partnership with a local nursery. Witnessing the young saplings take root and flourish instilled in me a profound sense of accomplishment. It was a testament to the fact that change, no matter how small, is attainable through collective action. Embracing the Ciocan Family motto, "You've reached the top of the mountain. Plant your flag, and leave a brief message," I imagine standing atop a majestic peak, the wind whispering through the trees. The flag I plant would symbolize harmony, unity, and the triumph of human determination to preserve the environment. My message, etched into the fabric of the flag, would read, "Let Nature's Song Thrive Forever." Nature's song is the universal language that connects us all, transcending boundaries and divisions. It reminds us of our intrinsic bond with the Earth and its inhabitants. Through my advocacy, I've aimed not only to preserve this harmonious melody but also to amplify it. Just as a symphony is composed of diverse notes coming together, I believe that our collective efforts can create a harmonious future for our planet. Innovation lies at the heart of effective advocacy. To reach new heights, I've embraced technology as a tool for change. Through social media campaigns and digital storytelling, I've shared tales of nature's resilience and vulnerability. I've harnessed the power of virtual reality to transport individuals to the heart of threatened ecosystems, inspiring a deeper connection and a call to action. Yet, even as we strive for innovation, it is the simple acts that resonate most profoundly. Planting a tree, recycling a single bottle, or teaching a child to appreciate the beauty of a sunset – these seemingly small gestures have the potential to create ripples of change that expand far beyond their initial impact. In conclusion, my journey as a passionate advocate for nature has been a symphony of diverse efforts, united by a common thread: the unwavering belief that the environment deserves our care and protection. The Ciocan Family motto encourages us to leave a lasting message, and mine is a song of unity, harmony, and enduring commitment to the stewardship of our planet. As I plant my flag atop the mountain, I envision a world where every individual embraces their role as a custodian of nature, contributing to a chorus that resonates for generations.

Community – a word that holds within its syllables a world of possibilities, a world where I find inspiration, purpose, and the drive to make a positive impact. What inspires me to get involved in my community is the simple yet profound idea of creating a better world right where I live, a world that thrives on unity, empathy, and shared responsibility. Growing up in a culturally diverse neighborhood, I witnessed the power of collective action. My community was a vibrant mosaic of backgrounds, languages, and stories. This diversity became my wellspring of inspiration, as I realized that beneath our surface differences lay a shared humanity that bound us together. This realization propelled me to bridge gaps and build bridges. It was my community's essence that compelled me to seek ways to influence change for the better. My journey in community engagement began with small steps that eventually led to more impactful initiatives. Starting with local clean-up drives, I learned that even the smallest actions can ripple into profound change. I engaged my neighbors in these efforts, fostering a sense of shared responsibility for our environment. These humble beginnings nurtured my belief that a single spark could ignite a blaze of transformation. As time progressed, my focus shifted towards education, recognizing its transformative potential. I initiated a tutoring program that paired skilled students with those needing academic assistance. The program transcended the boundaries of age and grade, embodying the spirit of mentorship and knowledge sharing. Witnessing the growth of these connections, I was reminded that change stems from personal connections, empathy, and the belief that we all have something to offer. One of my proudest accomplishments was organizing a cultural festival that celebrated our community's rich tapestry of traditions. Collaborating with various cultural groups, we curated an event that showcased diverse cuisines, music, dances, and art forms. The festival was more than a mere celebration; it was a powerful statement about the strength in unity. By working together to celebrate our differences, we were not only influencing change but creating a harmonious atmosphere of understanding and respect. To me, innovation lies in finding fresh approaches to longstanding challenges. Harnessing the power of technology, I initiated an online platform that connected community members seeking assistance with those willing to offer it. This virtual exchange of skills, resources, and knowledge transcended geographical boundaries, enabling us to expand our influence beyond our immediate neighborhood. In conclusion, my journey in community engagement has been one of personal growth, connection, and empowerment. The diverse, human-like spirit that fuels my efforts comes from the belief that every individual can make a difference. Whether it's through organizing events that celebrate diversity or using technology to break down barriers, my work aims to inspire others to see the potential within themselves and their communities. Change, I've learned, begins with a single step, a single action, and a single person who believes in the power of community. It's the fusion of our stories, our cultures, and our aspirations that gives rise to a movement of transformation. As I look ahead, my heart swells with hope, for I know that by continuing to foster empathy, unity, and innovation within my community, I am sowing the seeds of a brighter future for us all.

As I reflect on the books that have graced my life, I find myself amazed at the profound impact they’ve had on shaping my goals. Each book, like a well-worn compass, has guided me through the vast landscapes of knowledge and emotion, igniting my passions and sculpting my aspirations. From the very first pages of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Harper Lee’s evocative prose transported me to the racially charged world of the 1930s American South. Through Scout’s innocent eyes, I saw the injustice and prejudice that still lingered in the corners of society. This book taught me that empathy is a powerful tool in dismantling prejudice and fostering inclusivity. It’s a lesson that has become a cornerstone of my personal philosophy and informs my goal to contribute to a more just and equitable world. In “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho, I embarked on a journey with Santiago, a shepherd boy pursuing his dreams. The book’s underlying message - that our journey is as important as our destination - resonated deeply with me. It showed me the value of perseverance, resilience, and the courage to follow my heart, even when faced with uncertainty. This revelation has influenced my goal to pursue a career in environmental conservation, where the path may be challenging, but the impact is transformative. Diversity found its way into my literary exploration with “Americanah” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Through the eyes of Ifemelu, I experienced the complexities of cultural identity, migration, and the longing for home. Adichie’s unflinching portrayal of these issues prompted me to embrace diversity in all its forms and kindled my desire to engage in cross-cultural dialogue. As my goal crystallized to bridge cultural gaps, I realized that only through understanding can we truly connect and make meaningful change. “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman revolutionized my approach to decision-making. Kahneman’s exploration of cognitive biases unveiled the intricate workings of the human mind, revealing how we often let biases cloud our judgment. This book encouraged me to be more self-aware and critical of my thought processes, which directly impacted my goal-setting strategy. By recognizing and mitigating biases, I aim to make more informed decisions that drive me closer to my aspirations. “Quiet” by Susan Cain spoke to my introverted nature, reminding me that strength comes in various forms. In a world often dominated by extroversion, Cain’s celebration of introversion emboldened me to embrace my quiet strengths. This newfound self-acceptance informed my goal to empower others like me, and by pursuing a career in educational psychology, I aspire to create learning environments that cater to all personality types. “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah offered a poignant glimpse into apartheid-era South Africa. Noah’s humor and resilience in the face of adversity showcased the power of storytelling in navigating difficult circumstances. This lesson in storytelling’s impact on social change reinforced my goal to use my voice as a writer to shed light on important issues and inspire action. In conclusion, my literary journey has been a kaleidoscope of perspectives, emotions, and lessons that have indelibly shaped my goals. From fostering empathy and embracing diversity to cultivating resilience and self-awareness, the books I’ve read have been instrumental in sculpting my aspirations. In a world brimming with technological advancements and ever-evolving complexities, the age-old adage “helping others is important” remains not just relevant, but increasingly vital. The concept of lending a hand, however, transcends mere benevolence; it is the cornerstone upon which our collective progress, compassion, and interconnectedness thrive. At its core, the act of helping others is an affirmation of our shared humanity. We are all part of an intricate tapestry of life, woven together by the threads of compassion and empathy. In extending our hand to those in need, we reinforce the bonds that make us who we are. Whether through supporting a friend in their time of struggle or volunteering at a local shelter, every action of assistance cements the notion that we are in this journey together. This acknowledgment nurtures a sense of belonging, cultivating a global community that transcends barriers of race, nationality, and ideology. But the significance of helping others extends beyond the creation of connections—it fosters personal growth and self-discovery. When we engage in acts of kindness, we challenge ourselves to step outside our comfort zones and view the world through diverse perspectives. In helping others, we often find ourselves discovering strengths we never knew we possessed. The simple act of aiding a peer with their studies might reveal our knack for teaching, while volunteering at a community garden may uncover a latent passion for environmental stewardship. Such self-discovery fuels our own evolution and empowers us to continuously seek out opportunities for growth. Moreover, the impact of helping extends beyond immediate interactions, radiating outwards to effect meaningful change on a broader scale. Consider the story of Malala Yousafzai, who tirelessly advocated for girls’ education in Pakistan. Her unwavering dedication not only transformed her own life but inspired millions around the globe to rally behind the cause of education equality. When we help others, we often set in motion a ripple effect, where acts of kindness beget more acts of kindness, leading to a chain reaction of positive change. Innovation, too, thrives in the realm of helping others. The creative process is enriched when we collaborate, share ideas, and integrate diverse perspectives. Solutions to complex problems arise when individuals with varied experiences come together to tackle challenges. In today’s interconnected world, technology enables us to bridge gaps and extend our reach, catalyzing solutions that address global issues. By working collectively, we harness the power of innovation to confront everything from climate change to healthcare disparities. Yet, perhaps the most captivating aspect of helping others lies in the transformative joy it brings. The sheer happiness derived from knowing that one has made a positive impact on someone’s life is immeasurable. The delight of seeing a child’s face light up as they receive a gift, or witnessing the gratitude of a person in need, fills our hearts with a profound sense of purpose and contentment. This joy, inherent in the act of helping, echoes across cultures and languages, unifying us in our shared pursuit of happiness. In conclusion, the importance of helping others cannot be overstated. It is the embodiment of our interconnectedness, the catalyst for personal growth, and the driver of meaningful change. Whether on a small scale within our immediate communities or on a grander stage with global implications, helping others paves the way for a brighter, more compassionate world. So, let us continue to extend our hands, our hearts, and our humanity, forging a future where the power of helping propels us towards a shared and vibrant destiny.

In today’s dynamic world, social issues are becoming increasingly intertwined with our lives, demanding innovative and compassionate solutions. One vital challenge that resonates deeply with me is the lack of access to quality education for underprivileged youth. I firmly believe that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future, and I am committed to addressing this issue through a multifaceted approach that empowers and uplifts the potential of young minds. Growing up in a diverse community, I witnessed firsthand the stark disparities in educational opportunities. Many young individuals lacked the resources and support needed to succeed academically, perpetuating a cycle of limited opportunities and unfulfilled dreams. Inspired by their resilience, I embarked on a mission to make a difference. One of the cornerstones of my efforts is mentoring and tutoring. I founded a local after-school program that provides free tutoring to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through one-on-one sessions, I create a safe and supportive environment where students can ask questions, receive personalized guidance, and build their self-confidence. These interactions go beyond textbooks; they inspire a love for learning and instill in them the belief that they can achieve greatness. Recognizing the power of technology, I initiated an online learning platform that offers interactive educational content. Leveraging freely available resources, I curated lessons that cater to various learning styles and levels. This platform not only extends education beyond the classroom but also encourages self-directed learning, allowing students to explore subjects of interest and develop critical thinking skills. Aware that financial constraints often hinder educational aspirations, I orchestrated fundraising campaigns to provide scholarships and school supplies for economically disadvantaged students. These efforts not only ease the financial burden on families but also send a message of unwavering support, showing that their dreams matter and are worth investing in. Collaboration plays a pivotal role in driving sustainable change. To foster a sense of community ownership, I formed partnerships with local businesses, community centers, and schools. By pooling our resources and expertise, we established workshops that focus on life skills, career development, and holistic well-being. These workshops empower students with the tools they need not only to excel academically but also to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and determination. Innovation is at the heart of my approach. Recognizing the importance of representation, I created a mentorship program that pairs students with mentors from similar backgrounds who have succeeded in various fields. This program bridges the gap between aspiration and reality, providing students with role models who share their struggles and triumphs. It fosters a sense of belonging and demonstrates that their dreams are attainable. To ensure the sustainability of my efforts, I engage with policymakers and advocate for educational reform. I believe that systemic change is essential to address the root causes of educational inequity. By participating in discussions, presenting data-driven arguments, and collaborating with organizations focused on education policy, I aim to influence decisions that will lead to more inclusive and equitable educational systems. In conclusion, my commitment to addressing the crucial social issue of educational inequity is driven by a deep-rooted belief in the transformative power of education. Through mentoring, online learning platforms, scholarships, workshops, and advocacy, I strive to break down barriers and empower underprivileged youth to shape their own destinies. By fostering a sense of belonging, providing access to resources, and advocating for systemic change, I am dedicated to creating a world where every young individual has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to the betterment of society. Together, we can pave pathways to a brighter future for all.

Set in the racially charged Deep South of the 1930s, the book follows the journey of young Scout Finch as she learns about compassion and injustice through the trial of a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. The novel’s enduring relevance lies in its ability to foster empathy. It challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths about society and themselves, promoting conversations about racial prejudice and social injustice that are as pertinent today as they were when the book was written. By exposing the ugliness of discrimination, Lee’s work encourages readers to actively seek a more just world. Moreover, “To Kill a Mockingbird” celebrates the power of education and the transformative nature of knowledge. Through Atticus Finch’s dedication to educating his children, the novel underscores the importance of understanding others’ perspectives, transcending biases, and advocating for what is right, even when it is difficult. In a time when divisions seem to be growing, this book has the potential to bridge gaps and build bridges between individuals from all walks of life. My name is Nick Schena, and I’m not just a Jewish computer science student; I’m a young man on a deeply personal journey in the world of STEM. When asked about the inspiration behind my pursuit of a degree in this field, it’s impossible for me to separate my story from the profound impact my father had on my life. Growing up, my dad wasn’t just any scientist; he was my hero. His enthusiasm for exploring the unknown and pushing the boundaries of human understanding was infectious. He had this incredible ability to take complex concepts and make them seem like exciting adventures. I remember sitting at the kitchen table, wide-eyed and captivated, as he shared tales of his latest experiments and discoveries. Those moments sparked something in me – a curiosity, a yearning to understand, and a desire to be a part of something bigger. But life has its unpredictable twists. My hero, my father, battled a silent demon – addiction. The news of his overdose hit me like a wrecking ball. Suddenly, my world was shattered, and I was left to navigate a sea of grief. In the midst of this pain, I found a flicker of solace – the legacy he left behind. It wasn’t about his struggles; it was about his unquenchable thirst for knowledge, his dedication to unraveling the mysteries of the universe. My decision to pursue computer science is more than a career choice; it’s a tribute to my father’s memory. I remember thinking, “What could honor his legacy better than carrying forward his passion for discovery?” Every line of code I write, every problem I tackle, is a way for me to connect with him, to continue the journey he started, and to make him proud. But it’s not just about him; it’s about the world I want to change. The world watched my father’s battle with addiction. And in that darkness, I found a glimmer of purpose. I realized that by immersing myself in STEM, I could contribute to solutions that might prevent others from experiencing the pain my family endured. My father’s struggle illuminated the importance of addressing complex issues head-on and using innovation to make a difference. It became my mission to apply my knowledge to change lives, to make a meaningful impact. As a Jewish individual, the concept of tikkun olam – repairing the world – has always resonated with me. Pursuing a STEM degree feels like a tangible way to embody this principle, to work towards mending what is broken. It’s my chance to give back to my community, to be a beacon of hope for others who might be facing adversity. In the end, I don’t just want a degree in STEM; I want to weave my father’s memory into every fiber of my journey. I want to turn tragedy into triumph, to use my experiences to fuel my determination. For me, this isn’t just about a scholarship essay; it’s about my story, my drive, and my commitment to making the world a better place. My father’s light might have dimmed too soon, but I’m here to carry it forward, one line of code at a time.

A book that has changed my life is "7 Habits of Highly Successful People" by Stephen Covey. I first read the book when I was 17. I suffered my first breakup, tried hard drugs, and dropped out of high school all in one month before reading this book. After absorbing the timeless principles of leading a successful career and life from Stephen Covey, I was able to turn my life back around, make $70k hustling in a restaurant at 18, and enroll in college with a GED and 32 on my ACT. I don't think I would've turned my life around without the guidance from his book, and I will always be grateful for it. The habits he presents are: 1. Be proactive 2. Begin with the end in mind 3. Put first things first 4. Think win-win 5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood 6. Synergize 7. Sharpen the saw The book's central message is that people can achieve great things by aligning their actions with timeless principles of personal and interpersonal effectiveness. The book suggests that by adopting these habits, readers can improve their relationships, increase their effectiveness at work, and achieve a greater sense of fulfillment in their lives. The 7 Habits book can have a significant impact on many areas of a person's life. The first habit "be proactive" helps individuals to take responsibility for their own lives, which can lead to increased self-esteem, self-empowerment, and self-awareness. I became proactive about eliminating bad influences and making as much money as possible to support my education. The second habit "Begin with the end in mind" encourage individuals to set clear, specific, and measurable goals, and to make a plan for how to achieve them. Putting first things first, the third habit encourages people to prioritize their time and energy on the most important tasks and activities, rather than getting bogged down in less important things. Habit number four "Think win-win" is about working together to find mutually beneficial solutions rather than trying to win at the expense of others, which can help improve relationships and teamwork. Seek first to understand, then to be understood is the fifth habit, it helps people to communicate effectively by listening actively and trying to understand other people's perspectives, even when they disagree with them. The sixth habit synergize is about working together to achieve greater results than could be achieved alone. The final habit sharpen the saw is about taking care of ourselves by developing our physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual capacities. Combining the power of all 7 habits allows you to take massive action towards measurable goals, continually improve your skills, and master relationships. "7 Habits of Highly Successful People" gave me my life back, and I think it should be required reading for everyone.

I am extremely interested in furthering my Computer Science education with an emphasis in AI safety. As AI systems become more powerful and more widely used, it becomes increasingly important to ensure that they are safe and aligned with human values. This is where the field of AI safety comes in. AI safety is the study of how to design AI systems that are robust and reliable, and that behave in ways that align with human values. There are several different challenges associated with AI safety, including: Verification and validation: Ensuring that an AI system behaves as intended, even in unexpected or extreme situations. Robustness: Making sure that an AI system is not easily fooled by adversaries or by data that is slightly different from what it was trained on. Explainability: Making sure that an AI system can provide explanations for its decisions, so that humans can understand and trust it. Alignment: Making sure that an AI system is aligned with human values, so that it will act in ways that are beneficial to humans. These are just a few examples of the many challenges associated with AI safety. Ensuring the safety of AI systems is essential for realizing the full potential of AI and avoiding negative consequences. One of the key reasons why AI safety is so important is that AI systems are becoming more autonomous. In the past, AI systems were largely operated by humans, who could intervene if something went wrong. However, as AI systems become more autonomous, they will be able to make decisions and take actions on their own. This means that if an AI system is not designed to be safe, it could cause harm, even if its creators never intended it to. Another reason why AI safety is important is that AI systems are becoming more widespread. AI is being used in an increasing number of applications, from self-driving cars to healthcare. This means that if an AI system is not designed to be safe, it could have a far-reaching impact on society. Finally, AI safety is important because AI systems are becoming more powerful. As AI systems become more powerful, they will be able to make decisions and take actions that have a greater impact on society. This means that if an AI system is not designed to be safe, it could cause more harm than a less powerful system. In conclusion, AI Safety is a crucial field of research, as it ensures that AI systems are robust and reliable and align with human values. It aims to prevent negative consequences, which may arise due to the increasing autonomy, pervasiveness, and power of AI systems, and ultimately help us to fully realize the potential of AI. As AI continues to advance, it is more important than ever to focus on AI safety.

I love Disney, because most of their characters are hyperbolic representations of real-life character traits and emotions. When I was in middle and high school, I always struggled with having low self-esteem. I was so focused on appearing worthy to others, that I couldn't properly focus on school and my own goals. Because of my struggles with self-confidence, the character I gravitated towards the most was Gaston, from Beauty and the Beast. Despite his *many* character flaws and bad decisions, Gaston was always a pillar of hope to me as a kid. If he can be so arrogant, that he is impervious to those around him, wouldn't it also be possible for Nick Schena to develop enough confidence to live his life the way he wants? This thought led me to pursuing the highest version of myself through reading books, forcing myself to get comfortable interacting with others, putting more time into my studies, and sharpening my interpersonal and engineering skills any way I can. Now, I can say I am finally happy with who I see staring back at me in the mirror. I was unemployed, underperforming in school, without a girlfriend, and physically out of shape. Now, thanks to the original inspiration from Gaston, I am the best-performing server at a restaurant, have straight A's in college, am engaged to my lovely fiance, and hit the gym three times per week. Transforming myself was extremely difficult, but we all only have one life, so why not be a main character like Gaston, rather than distract ourselves with entertainment as the days pass by faster than we can comprehend. 2020 and the onset of the Covid pandemic feels like it happened yesterday. In 2024, we will feel the same way about 2022. Our lives are not as long as we think, so it is time to make the most of them while we are here.

My favorite scientific discovery is the Internet, by computer scientists Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn. Astute scientist, Stephen Hawking, once said "We are all now connected by the Internet, like neurons in a giant brain." This conveys how the Internet is the best invention. If we look at nature, the human brain was the single best achievement, as it led to every scientific invention ever made. The internet takes this a step further by connecting all of our brain power together to quickly synthesize the best information on the planet, making it easier to make scientific progress. Essentially, the internet is the invention that makes all future inventions easier or even possible. Every field you can think of has been quickly advanced in the past few decades due to the internet: education, finance, medicine, engineering, architecture, art, physics, etc. Think about it this way. From 500 B.C. to 1000 B.C., human progression was extremely slow, with only technologies of minor importance being made. That's 500 years with only incremental progress. Since the internet has been invented in 1983, we have developed nearly fully autonomous cars, nanobots that can repair biological tissues, and virtual reality technology that makes 3D worlds nearly indistinguishable from real life. This insane pace of progress was all thanks to the seamless information availability that the Internet provides to the scientific community. Ultimately, if fire was the start of a new era for humans, the internet was the fire of this millennia.

Warren Buffet once compared taking care of ourselves to taking care of a nice car: “You have only one mind and one body for the rest of your life,” Buffett says. “If you aren’t taking care of them when you’re young, it’s like leaving that car out in hailstorms and letting rust eat away at it. If you don’t take care of your mind and body now, by the time you’re 40 or 50, you’ll be like a car that can’t go anywhere.” This highlights the idea that your body is your tool to achieve your life mission, so it's essential to care for it properly. I believe it's important to live a healthy life because without health, we cannot achieve our higher purposes as humans, leading to an unfulfilling life. The four pillars of a great life are health, wealth, love and happiness, with happiness being a result of the former three. Health + Wealth + Love = Happiness. Because it's so essential to our happiness, everyone should make maintaining their health one of their major priorities. The world becomes a busier place every day, but if we don't stop working to take care of ourselves occasionally, we will not be able to continue functioning properly. Unfortunately, the past few decades have had an overall downtrend in mental and physical health, revealed by an increase in suicide and obesity in America. However, there is a lot to be optimistic about, with the increasing education around nutrition and the destigmatization around mental health. There's also been a lot of companies taking action, providing healthy food and mental health spaces to employees. I think that maintaining a healthy lifestyle means taking care of your mental and physical health, in order to give yourself the energy and vitality required to achieve your dreams. Luckily, there are a lot of actions we can take to improve both mental and physical health simultaneously. The absolute best thing everyone can do to improve their overall health is sleeping properly. What good sleep means is individual, but studies have proven the devastating effects bad sleep quality has on us, with increased sleep deprivation correlating with the increases in suicide and obesity. The second most important thing that I focus on is nutrition. This is also individualized since everyone has different microbiomes and reactions to food, but in general, eating whole foods rather than processed foods is a great thing. Stick to the outer rims of grocery stores! The next priority is exercise. Exercise increases your brain power, staves off all forms of chronic disease, increases feel-good neurochemicals, and makes you look good naked! Best of all, exercise is completely free and can be done at almost anytime and anyplace. An honorable mention for self-care, that I do whenever I find extra time to is mediation. Meditation, over the course of a 8 week study, was shown to increase the size of the part of the brain that helps you focus, functionally increasing IQ. This is amazing because a focused brain will reduce anxiety, improving mental health. As mentioned before, sleep, nutrition, and exercise are the three things I prioritize to take care of my body and function at my highest potential, and I believe everyone should prioritize them.

Healthy foods play an essential role in this formula by providing the proper nutrition we need to maintain high energy levels. Nutrition is even more important than exercise or other forms of self care. Luckily, my parents exposed me to a large variety of superfoods as a kid, so I love almost every vegetable, legume, or berry you could imagine. However, my two favorite healthy foods have to be blueberries and asparagus. Blueberries are extremely flavorful and do a great job at protecting and enhancing the brain. I personally love eating them with a little bit of honey for a healthy dessert! Asparagus has a lot of fiber and other minerals that help improve your health as well! They taste wonderful when air-fried or baked with a little bit of parmesan cheese on top. Asparagus is also extremely easy to incorporate into meals, as it goes great with chicken, steak and many other types of protein. Despite my love for healthy food, it has increasingly become a problem for me, like most of America, to incorporate them into my diet due to the ever-increasing demands of work and college. Meal prepping is always a great and cost-effective option, but not everybody likes leftover food or has the opportunity to store food somewhere at work or school for lunch. The best method I have found for consistently eating superfoods is to cook and eat whole foods fresh when time allows and supplement busier times with a superfood powder mix. There are also other amazing products that allow for quick healthy eating, such as high quality protein powders and healthy frozen dishes.

For my 7th birthday, I had no idea what gifts my parents were going to get for me. I wasn't interested in much besides gaming and school, so I just assumed it was going to be a couple of books or maybe a video game. You can imagine the look of surprise on my face whenever I saw my Mom come around the corner with a box that had two tiny, glowing eyes peering out of one end and a fluffy, orange tail sticking out the other. Tom was my first pet, a fluffy orange cat that sparked my lifelong passion for helping animals in anyway I can. He made me realize at 7 what I was able to clarify with words later: we love pets so much because they reflect the best parts of human nature. Pets give humans their unconditional love, something that seems to be rare in human-human relationships. No matter what challenges I went through throughout my adolescence, Tom was always there to comfort me. He never asked for anything in return. Unfortunately, my parents didn't share the same passion for animals that I do, so they only let Tom live outside, leading to his passing due to a local pack of coyotes. The trauma I experienced from his loss at the age of 13 led me to start volunteering at the local Humane Society, where I learned to walk dogs, make treats for cats and dogs, and properly handle animals. In my time there I witnessed the power animals have to change lives. I have seen homeless people, with no hope in life, inspired to keep fighting because of their furry best friend. I have seen terminally ill, majorly depressed, and disabled people all find a revitalized sense of hope in life through adopting and sharing love with a pet. There are hundreds of millions of animals in the United States, many of which have no home or are mistreated. After outlining everything pets have done for us, it seems like the obvious decision to do whatever we can to help them out. Animals don't have their own voice or choice, so it is up to those of us who knows how wonderful they are to speak up for their wellbeing. Adoption, volunteering, advocacy, and donating are all great ways to support animals. Everyone's life and schedule is different, so how you support animals is going to be completely different from how someone else will. However, one thing is clear: everyone should be trying their hardest to support our furry friends.

The most helpful piece of financial advice I've ever received is from Ramit Sethi's book, "I Will Teach You To Be Rich". He states, "Spend extravagantly on the things you love, and cut mercilessly on the things you don't." The two common financial strategies that most people tend to follow are to: be frugal in every area or spend extravagantly on every impulse or craving. Choosing to be frugal in every area results in never enjoying the fruits of the present, while spending freely in every area of life leaves no money saved for emergencies, retirement, or business opportunities. That's why the hybrid model of spending on the one or two things you love the most and nearly nothing on everything else is the best option. You get to save money for the important life milestones while also enjoying life now. I'm not a huge traveler or material person, but I personally love coffee and eating out. Because of that, any extra money I have after budgeting for school, bills, and saving is money I get a Starbucks coffee or a nice dinner with. Ultimately, living with this mindset will make you more productive and lead you to earn more in the future by preventing burnout, which can cripple productivity for months. A lot of college students, including myself, are currently in the mindset of saving as much as possible in order to survive and minimize student loan debt. But, after graduation, the best way to have more financial prosperity is to increase your income, not save more. Saving 90% of 60k/year isn't as productive or enjoyable as saving 40% of 300k/year. This really all boils down to: develop more high-paying skills and spend on what you love the most.

I'd like to preface talking about my bucket list by saying that I don't think any bucket list can be complete without having physical, mental, and spiritual goals. Only focusing on one category will leave you unfulfilled at the end of your life, because you will never know what you would've been capable of if you maxed out your potential mentally, physically, and spiritually. My main physical bucket list goals are to get below 10% bodyfat, participate in an ultra-marathon, participate in a spartan race, participate in a triathlon, and to climb Mount Everest. My mental bucket list goals are to graduate with a double major in Economics and Computer Science for my undergraduate education, get accepted into a Robotics Masters Degree program at an elite school, and to work at a mentally challenging company such as SpaceX in order to contribute everything I can for humanity's future. Lastly, my spirituality bucket list goals are to develop a rock-solid meditation routine, pursue my life purpose everyday, and to mentor under a meditation expert one day.

I’m a strong believer that creativity isn’t something you are or aren’t. I think it’s something that anyone can practice. It’s interesting because it’s something that can be channeled, but it’s completely unpredictable what the results will be. It’s a combination of past experiences and new stimuli. Therefore, the best way to increase creativity is to get a wide variety of experiences and read a wide variety of books. When you’re working on a creative project for your field, you’ll have so many different ideologies to draw from to generate creative solutions. I am studying software engineering, so reading books on business, philosophy, and other fields of study lend me useful ideas for how to organize my programs. For example, a common business ideology is for a startup to create a mvp (minimum viable product) in order to get the product out to the market to test the startup idea out as quickly as possible. This made me realize that optimizing core features is more important than adding more features on a project. That’s why I’ve made the app I’m working on more minimalistic. Ultimately, creativity = (past experiences) x (current circumstances), and it’s a skill rather than a trait.

The art of studying can be broken down into 3 simple steps: listening to understand, studying to solidify, and reviewing to remember. The single best thing to do to understand and remember information in college is to actively listen in class and take notes to understand the concepts to the best of your ability. Great methods to do this include the cornell note-taking method and creating mind maps to connect concepts visually. The better you understand the concepts from active listening, the less you have to study, freeing up time for extracurricular activities and internships. However, it’s not always realistic to understand every concept right away, so that’s where we move to the next step: studying to solidify. The best time to start studying to solidify is as soon as you get home from the class. Reinforcing the concepts when they’re fresh in your mind is easily worth five times more retention power than studying for them in the future. However, difficult concepts often take more than one study session, so allow yourself the time needed for mastery. The best study methods to solidify the concept include making practice tests and flash cards to quiz yourself. After solidifying the concept, there will still be time between then and the test that you could forget. That’s why it’s important to keep regularly testing yourself with practice tests and flashcards to not forget.

I love nature because it has provided the foundation for humans to build upon, in order to spread the gift of consciousness throughout the cosmos. Because of consciousness, we’ve been able to achieve things that no other known species has. This leaves us indebted to nature for providing the cradle needed to allow us to evolve. I plan on donating 90% of my wealth when I die to various organizations that protect nature and the environment, but I always try to do what I can now. Between beach cleanups, donating to environmental organizations as gifts for others, and rounding every purchase to the nearest dollar to donate, I try to make any small difference I can. It’s the individual small differences accumulated that will make the difference more than the large corporate donations. We should all appreciate nature and it’s intrinsic beauty. It’s where we all came from, and it’s where we all reunite at the end of life.

When, I was 17, I dived really deep into self development to try to maximize my potential. One of the common themes in resources in the self-help space is to develop routines and habits in order to automate helpful behavior. However, after trying and failing to stick to a rigid schedule, I realized it's impossible to stick to rigid routines in such a chaotic world. This is especially true for students, who juggle school, work, family, extracurriculars, applying for financial aid, etc. That's why it's important to have different techniques for different scenarios. During a slow period in school, there's ample time to go get a massage or take a long, hot bath. However, when finals and honors projects are around the corner, a five minute breathing exercise or meditation session would make more sense because of time scarcity. I think the most important thing anybody can have for mental health is an arsenal of relaxation tools that can fit any situation. As far as identifying specific techniques, exercise is the 80/20 of mental health. It's free, scientifically proven to be as effective as antidepressants, and can be done anytime and anywhere. Meditation is a close second because it helps increase the density of dopamine receptors, allowing everyday, mundane actions to release more dopamine, making life more enjoyable.

To me, influence is the ability to impact another person in a way that changes their life that wouldn't have happened had you never met the influential person. Given that, we should all be grateful for the positive people that we surround ourselves with. I always try to be positive to everyone, encouraging people to say no to fear and follow their dreams. There's no reason to be negative when life itself is already such a challenge for everyone. You never know what other people go through, so you should never judge. I'm currently supporting myself through school with a mix of scholarships and with working 40-50 hours per week serving at Olive Garden. While it is difficult to maintain that work output while studying for a STEM degree, I'll do anything I have to achieve my goals. I'm currently planning to pursue a career in software engineering. I'd like to try out working in different industries at the beginning of my career before choosing a niche. I plan on pursuing internships at tech companies, finance companies, and the major video game company Activision-Blizzard. I chose this field because of my love for technology and video games. I've been completely in love with gaming since the age of 5 when I played Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64. I then went on through my adolescence playing various competitive games on the Xbox 360 and now on pc. I wasn't the most popular kid and faced bullying for being overweight and nerdy at school. Video games helped me forge friendships and gave me a sense of community that I was lacking in real life, helping me develop socially, despite not having the opportunity to at school. I am still friends now at 20 with a person I met playing Call of Duty when I was 8. My main goal with choosing software engineering is to be able to create a video game or product that impacts other people with the same positivity that games have bestowed me with throughout my life. Receiving this scholarship would mean the world to me. I love this field, and I hope to make a significant contribution to it in my lifetime. This scholarship would help me continue learning what I love, so I can leave a legacy of positive change like Jack has.

I love the first meme, because I work in a restaurant and I know how Karens can act lol. The second meme about the school nurse strikes deep, because school nurses were know to just hand out peppermints and other useless things when you got hurt. Lastly, the 90s and 00s kids coming up on 30 is really just unreal to me. Time flies.

I had just left my second period in high school and entered the bathroom when I heard yelling. "Stop! Leave me alone!" It was one of my classmates named Darren. The school bullies always gravitated towards him because he was quiet. Like many people would think, the thought crossed my mind that minding my own business might be easier. However, I knew it would be wrong to watch the bullying happen, so I stepped in and broke up the verbal harassment. I also made a new friend while standing up to stop bullying!
