I would like to see equal opportunities! I am an African American pansexual young woman who wishes for equal opportunities to be offered in the future to all. This world seems to be run by a clouded mind person who doesn't want to see the best in everyone. And this person is so blinded by their views that they can't see the sticks being thrown at us as if we're dogs. We queers have been stripped of our opportunities on the sole fact that we have different preferences. So, I hope this wish for equal opportunities and rights brings light to our situations. LGBTQ+ people have been denied equal education and protection for years, and sadly they will continue to try and deny us. In March, a bill passed that banned trans girls and women from playing sports in college and high school by the governor of Iowa. And just before, Wyoming's state senator passed a budget amendment that stopped funding the University of Wyoming’s women’s and gender studies program. Luckily this bill didn't make it through, but it does scare me how there are more and more anti-LGBTQ+ bills being passed as the days go on. These conservative state lawmakers need to be stopped from making their prejudiced laws. Like the big barrier of denied health care for LGBTQ+ people. They have been denied and discriminated against for years. The experiences the community has faced vary depending on the state and municipality. Last year, a bill passed that allowed doctors to deny LGBTQ+ patients and others in Arkansas. It didn't matter if they were children or teens they'd still be faced with this discrimination. These young transgender students from ages 13-17 would be denied the opportunity for gender affirmation. And as they grow up they will continue to struggle with their gender due to their gender identity. I fear that future LGBTQ+ people will be denied housing and end up homeless in the future. A survey back in 2015 by the National Center for Transgender Equality, estimated that 30 percent of transgender people have been homeless at some point. This estimate shot up during 2016-2019 to 88 percent, based on the 2020 HUD Point-in-Time Count. Transgender and gender non-conforming people were evicted from their homes because of their gender identity. They were denied access to amenities like pool areas and were kept from information that could affect their financial state. LGBTQ+ deserve equal opportunities and rights and should never be viewed as a stigma by others. We deserve equal health care, education opportunities, and housing just like every other person alive. We should not be viewed as less than or disgusting solely because we identify differently than others. Young LGBTQ+ students should not have to fear growing up because of conservative lawmakers and people. We should not fear being denied basic human rights. We should not have to worry about youth LGBTQ+ members being abused in the future because of their gender identity. I wish to see this change in the future and be the one changing it.
