I am a 23-year-old LGBTQ teacher, and life-long learner, in my second year teaching in the Buffalo Public School District in New York. To be the best teacher I can be, I have taken certification courses in Teaching English as a Foreign Language; as many of the students in Buffalo Public are English Language Learners. I am currently in my second year teaching and have grown impassioned by the connections I have made with my students and the social-emotional growth I have seen firsthand while working with populations who historically do not have the same opportunities accessible to them throughout their communities. I aspire to obtain a master's degree in School Psychology, as I believe one of the best ways to serve a student population is to assure that all students have the resources to succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. As a teacher, I have witnessed students who would benefit from intervention services fall through the cracks because nobody was there to speak for them... As a School Psychologist, I want to ensure that every student is spoken for and receives the appropriate educational plan for their individual learning style as well as their specific social-emotional needs. With this plan of mine comes the inevitable, massive amount of debt that a 66 credit master's degree comes with. I personally believe that student loans should be canceled nationwide so that every student has equal access to educational services, but until then I am applying for Scholarships, staying active in my community, and voting to ensure that my voice is heard.
